You guys did an awesome job. I’ve watched a few videos on how to make these but yours was to first to stain the posts. It honestly brings the project to a higher lever. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely brilliant idea ! ! I was looking at digging out 😬 for the posts but this approach is ideal (make the Mrs happy) many thanks from the UK 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Thank you! We wanted to avoid digging out for posts so we came up with this. That way we can put them away in the winter as well and they'll be out of the way!
I'm gonna try it by putting a hook about 4 inches down the post for the lights, and one about an inch down and hooking a tarp on the top hook. Once you get it hooked, you should be able to adjust the pots so the tarp is taut, right?
@@MimiDidi121 I think a tarp may be too heavy for the posts unless you have a post in the center. The center of gravity might be too much unless you use larger posts!
From Michigan as well doing the same project, I just got the non breakable lights! I bought the same ones you had before, didn’t want to screw them in and they break too easy! Job well done!
Yes! My aunt did the same project and bought the plastic bulbs- the only issue she noticed was that water is getting inside her bulbs. Mine don't have any water, but are glass so pros and cons for sure!
Your cat is cute af 😍lol and thanks for making that video. Doing something similar but using the buckets as a base for a temporary summer fence to block the sun from burning my car on side of car port👍🏽
You two are adorable, great job! you should be proud. thank you for putting the costs and materials thank you so much. awesome! Lisa from norco California
Love it! I am doing something similar, but using 4 posts and screw hooks to attach a shade to the top. Had to get creative with this crazy Midwest wind/weather.
@@cecebella09 great to Hear! Have they sagged any? I’m debating whether or not to use extra wire to hold up the string lights (I bought commercial grade) or if it’s really needed.
Hi! A local company/family friend of ours did our patio last year. Tore up the old one & poured new concrete then stamped & stained it! Good luck on the project, its so rewarding when its done!
Unfortunately this won't work because the post won't likely be sturdy enough to be held up by the rocks if they were to move at all. The posts are unsteady unless held up by concrete in my opinion!
I wonder if you put hooks in the posts and hooked a tarp to them and adjust pots to tighten the tarp...like a gazebo, of sorts! I was at Tractor Supply and they had large pots that had been $14.99 on sale for $3.99! It's mid August, so I'm thinking of throwing them in the shed until next spring
Hi, how big is your patio? I mean Distance between the two poles? We are thinking of doing the same thing with four posts for our backyard 16’x16’ and we were wondering how big the planter should we take for 4”x4”x8’ posts!! TIA
Hey Celia, Great work! How's the stability of the posts? Do they knock over or sway if someone were to bump into them? Also, do you feel you used the right amount of concrete? The video and item lists are very very helpful!
Hi Darren! They are very stable, if you're concerned, I might try a slighter larger base, but we have friends over all of the time and have never had an issue. The concrete level is perfect, heavy enough but easy enough to move around.
The dog is the best part of this video!

Did this with my dad yesterday and I kept saying the lady on the RUclips said to do it this way😂
Thanks for all the tips!

Man this is exactly video I needed! We fully just ‘wing it’ with all our projects 😂😂😂❤️
the best way to do it!
This was the best video I've seen so far in making this, amazing job! I'm trying to do this in one weekend this gave me hope:)
love this! its such a rewarding project!
This is my first time to watched this. What a great idea! We will do it in next year! Thank you!!!

Love it! This was such a fun project and it turned out better than I imagined it would!
thanks for sharing details! how are the lights holding up? any blown fuses?
Nope! They are holding up great, going to bring them in soon for winter but all of them are working and holding up really well!
@@cecebella09 great to Hear! Have they sagged any? I’m debating whether or not to use extra wire to hold up the string lights (I bought commercial grade) or if it’s really needed.
This helped us out a lot. Thanks!
Yay I'm so glad, such a rewarding project!
Great job thanks for the upload
Thank you so much!
It looks amazing!!! Thanks for sharing as I’m about to do the same.
best of luck! still one of my favorite projects!
Wow you made this look very simple thank you.
Thank you so much!
Its not a DIY project with the wife unless yall argue bout something!!! haha! Looks great! We will be doing something similar finally very soon.
Lol right?! It's always better once its completed!
Nice job! Who did your herringbone patio? That is really nice. I will get my lights @ Target & my planters @ Dollar tree. Really nice job

Nice.. how did u actually string the lights? Couldn’t really see at the end.
We attached hooks onto the posts then the put the lights on the hooks. I linked the hooks we used in the description!
Love it
Awesome video and thanks so much for posting the direct links to everything. It looks fantastic! Have these held up well in the wind from storms?
Yes they do! We put our rocking chairs next to them when we know there will be high winds and we haven't had any issues!
Can I fill barrel up with landscaping rocks instead? Or concrete is a must?
Unfortunately this won't work because the post won't likely be sturdy enough to be held up by the rocks if they were to move at all. The posts are unsteady unless held up by concrete in my opinion!
Post concrete will set in the matter of minutes. Plus, no premixing. You just pour in the dry concrete, then water.

Might be a bit off the center of gravity for a tarp, would probably need a middle post to support a tarp!
Nice job!
Just a quick question .
How are these buckets holding the weight of the pole? Can the polar easily fall?
They definitely can fall, but only if there are strong winds.
You could stake into the ground and use a rope to keep it upright while it dries
Ours stands pretty sturdy, but a good idea for those that have had issues!
Hi, how big is your patio? I mean Distance between the two poles? We are thinking of doing the same thing with four posts for our backyard 16’x16’ and we were wondering how big the planter should we take for 4”x4”x8’ posts!! TIA
The poles are about 19 ft x 15 ft from each other! So the planters I used would absolutely work for that size!
@@cecebella09 Thankyou so much :)

Where these post sturdy enough to hold the lights? I’m debating how big to get the planters. Using 8ft post.
Yes absolutely! We used 8 ft posts and they're very sturdy.
@@cecebella09 what size planters did you go with? I got 20” by 20” square. But I feel like they are too by for my space...

ur prob about to blow up . i saw ur vid on my main page
What did you use to hook the lights onto your house?
Vinyl Siding Hanging Clips from Amazon
How many strings of lights did it take for yours?
I purchased 100 ft of string lights from Amazon and it was WAY too long, I would've probably been good with 50 ft.
sweet!!!
I did mine yesterday but mine were a horrible mess 😔 I don’t know where I went wrong . They all keep falling/tilting over the lights are too heavy 😩
Maybe the posts are too far apart? You may need to add an additional post or support or your buckets aren't large enough to support the post!
Marriage projects!!!! Lol I can relate hub n I go at it 🤦🏻♀️ you think they’d respect our ability to want to build shit!
Exactly! Saved so much money doing this over putting a pergola up too!
