Goes to show how car ahead of it's time the Slim PS2 and Gran Turismo 4 both were. I wish PD would Remaster this for PS4 Pro or even PS5.
How FAR you mean. You misspelled it in your comment
bageli tsandila ever heard of autocorrect?
@Fur Q Ever heard of douchebag?
Could be a pun
@Fur Q Hehe, well I can be at times!
Emulation makes the game look like an early PS3 game.
[2005 GTHD trailer intensifies]
It's funny how GT4 looks better then GT5
Russell Moore How? Nobody said or thinks that GT4 looks better than GT5. That guy said it looks better than an early ps3 game, but we all know that GT5 was NOT released that near the ps3 lauch date! (Playstation 3 launched in 11. November 2006, GT5 launched in 24. November 2010) and plus, like the op said, this is an EMULATION of the game, if this video was recording the actual official playstation 3 version, it would look at least a little worse than what we’re seeing right now (now don’t take this in a mean spirited way, the game looks still quite amazing for an PS2 game, but it’s just not better than PS3 graphics).
Indeed
Without some visuals. PCSX 2 in hardware mode skips some effects, usually screen filters, like: motion blur, bloom, sometimes even clouds, rain, snow, despite how they was implemented. They still works well in software mode, but in software mode you can't do 8x resolution. So PCSX 2 is still trade-off for some games. You can make higher resolution but without important visuals, or stay in original resolution, but with all visuals up.
Holy cow I just noticed the upgrade you've done to your PC. Jumping from an i7-4790K, 16gb and GTX 1070 all the way to an *i9-9900K, RTX 2080 Ti and 32gb?!* That's insane! Congrats on the new rig!
It's not my PC bruh .. i still need a little bit more money to upgrade my PC tho. :P
@@xTimelessGaming if it's not yours whose is it?
@@Uilliam56 I'm assuming "Reupload 4K". That's who XTG put for "requested by".
Either way, I'm sure XTG is still pretty happy with his 1070 + 4790K, especially for emulation.
@@xTimelessGaming Is it your friends pc?
You do need a pretty beefy rig to run PS2 emulation at this quality.
In another words: How the game was vs. how I remember it.
my thoughts exactly i feel like it looked better on my old tv
you guys played on small screens, it had better pixel density. Play it on a 40+ inch and yeah you see how low res it was made in. Sitting back a bit though to make up for it and it should be similar.
LOL I thought the same
@@johng5261
CRT or LCD sir.
@@alecgamer420
Native CRT back in the day,
Would look better than HD panel.
The reflections man... i almost can't believe it. What incredible programming work of them
Reflections is usual thing in games since PS1 era or even earlier. RTX propaganda make reflections looks like something revolutionary, but you can easy implement reflections on Playstation 1 and of course on Playstation 2. Of course you can't do complex reflections on Playstation 1, just some planar mirrors, embedded in exact point of scene, and you can do static reflections with pretty bad alligment (due to absence of cube mapping) on dynamic meshes. Same for Playstation 2. Don't know is Playstation 2 able to do cube mapping, because it uses modified GeForce 2 GPU and cube map support was added started from GeForce 3. But if it can, it will be kinda perfect for mirrors. RTX allow you to do complex self-occluded reflections, but for some reasons in most demos for RTX you can see simple reflections which can be easy implemented on GeForce 3.
It's Ray tracing
Yea ps2s are cool but emulation will always have their advantages. I play ps2 and would love to have an emulator
PS2 foreva 💪
pcsx2 is shit. many glitch.
I mean, the emulator is free. Just look up PCSX2
AliceTS my pc can’t run it
you can buy a US PS2 for £80 and play GT4 in 1080i use a good component cable
the thing with emulaation you lose some shades and effects of the original like the bluriness in the replay
1:14 "No! Get me back in 8k!"
At :30 he had a hard time picking a color, so many options!
Definitely my favorite game of the Ps2 era. Always trying for a faster laptime in Nurburgring.
Did you run the SLR Mission Challenge...at the Nurburgring? Hardest challenge of the GT series!
Just goes to show how ahead of it's time GT4 was
It looks amazing at 5K. I checked this video out just to see if it emulated well, as some games just still don't. Ridge Racer V, for example, or the Sega Ages Model 2 titles.
Curious though, how'd you capture it both in native resolution and 5K simultaneously? It wasn't a replay, since that was shown after the race. And it wasn't two different playthroughs because your race line and the AI's lines up perfectly.
lol for some reason how it looks in 4k is how my brain remember it looking at the time :)
Back then TVs were much smaller (around 14-20 inches) so Its not your fault, the pixel density (pixels per inch) was higher because the screen was smaller, so everything looked smoother.
Try Putting together a Low resolution and a High resolution version of the same image together. As you zoom out, the diference feels smaller.
Now that I think about, the NY circuit looks like a track designed by Tilke.
Man even native looks insane
The game did not look that bad on native ps2, I still play it on my ps2 and component cables and its a thousand times better even at 480i then what is shown here. You cant even read text on bilboards on the pcsx2 version. So there is just certain things that have to stay on the console.
idk, looks about the same to me
In the proces the game lost the out of focus blur effect
Fine by me, that blur effect is something you only get with cameras anyway, not the human eye.
@@CordovanSplotchVT isn't that depth of field? I'm pretty sure even eyes experience that
@@rafee9442 not to such an extreme degree, if you focus on something within like 2 feet of your eyes sure, but if you're looking at something 4 yards away, anything behind it is going to be plenty in focus, no matter how many hundreds of yards away it is.
@@CordovanSplotchVT yeah, fair enough
@@CordovanSplotchVT I'm losing brain cells with your imperial calculations.
The powerful Ford GT 40 of 69' was always a super car that I liked and that has really become a brand badge of its creation, I liked it so much that I have it in diecast 1:64 scale as it should be. uwu
yes gt 40 and gt one are my favorite cars in gran turismo series
uwu
@Kvf 29 and Matchbox 😉
Would be sweet if PS5 allowed PS1 and PS2 emulation. Imagine popping in your old PS2 copy of this and having it upscaled so it could look this gorgeous. Would be all over that!
Hi, you'd better show me how you set up the emulator for such a cool image

The storm v12 was one of my favorite cars in gt3
Played this game for hundreds and thousands of hours and now...
I need to play it 8x native again.
Awesome!
You could try at 4x native.
It will look good, but it will be a little more stable with frame rates.
So many of these old tracks I'd forgotten about.
Have you guys noticed that Forza 3 has almost the same turns except for the 90 degree corners and the chicane obstacles? I mean the start finish line, the first couple corners, and the last corner with the roundabout and the little right hander are the same for both tracks lol
Dude, how do you get your image so crystal clear? Mine is blurry, like slight double vision, no matter what resolution i have it at. Are there any extra settings you use other than what you have displayed below the video?
To me personally, i just love playing this on the ps2.
Playing it on a CRT has a certain charm.
But upon further inspection it does seems that emulating it loses certain effects and shaders.
Still looks better on original hardware, no matter if it isnt as sharp when emulating it.
The quality is better than the classic disc of Gran Turismo HD Concept
I mean the Gran Turismo HD Premium and Classic discs
with some decent retextures you wouldnt think this game was that old...
watch in 240p
Wow! I think it's time to dig out GT4 again.
This is what the ps5 will supposedly do to older playstation titles
ps5 upscaling ps1 and ps2 games
Daymn!
You will not see ps2 or ps3 sony will not allow it
@@chadbrick67 You don't know that.
@@Game-Now well my 25 year gaming experience tells me this. I'll have this conversation with you when the ps5 is released Sony are just rip off merchants and will allow you to buy only certain titles just like the ps2 classics etc etc. 99% sure of this. They will not allow you to put your old disks in no chance
sad part was i did not notice the fact this was a vertical cut down the center for like the first half of the video but that could be cause i could care less for graphics, I just hope the gran turismo 7 has brings all the stuff from every GT game before (except GT Sports crappy upgrade system that makes half the cars slow and under powered, we really the gt6's upgrade system back and nitrous)
Amazing! Thanks for this!
GT4 looks awesome with more processing power !
At 4K it even holds up to day. No surprise since GT4 on the PS2 supported 1080i with the right display and connection.
It looks damn amazing!
One question I have:
Would it be possible to unpack the games ISO image file, take the original game texture files, run each file through Waifu2x (Or a similar Neural based AI enhancement suite) and upscale the original textures to 4K or even 8K, and then add the new texture files to the original game, repack/re-compress the game back into an ISO image and then run it on the emulator.
Would this work?
That would be interesting! Somebody got to try it.
@@hellucination9905 I would be happy to give it a shot, I may look into it tomorrow, I haven't used Waifu2x before but it seems pretty "cut and dry" (aka easy) to operate
hey there, i've followed your settings but still can't get my game to look as vibrant as yours any tips? i'm just using the GSdx plugin that came with the emulator. but yeah my game still looks a tad blurry and not as sharp or even as vibrant
The game needs progressive scan enabled
Back then, this looked more real than real life.
Some PS2 games really benefit from higher resolutions. The graphics look awesome but the blocky presentation kills it.
Man i miss this track
The sounds of GT 40 is AWESOME! I love that.
But the flicker is what's nostalgic, lol. Great video!
Can you make a detailed tour on your pcsx2 settings please? I have a rtx 2080 and I didn't find the perfect settings yet
same for me
2070 super and same
Shows what a good engine this was. Superb.
Looks stunning mate... i still play this game on my ps2
Love to see grand turismo one remade in 4k
dude, even without the enhancement, the game looks way ahead of its time.
Can you compare PCSX2 upscaled GT4 vs GT6(with the same car)? I wondered if the texture is upscaled...
This was my addiction in the days of PS2
Is it worth noting that GT4 had native 1080i capabilities?
No it does not. It only upscales 1080i
PS2 games run sub 480p internally
I think i should point out this is actually more like 60x higher resolution and 5K.
See 640x480=307,200 pixels
5120x3584=18,350,080 pixels
OMG you playing GT4 on 4k? that some gangsta shit bro, sick
Do you have any problems with input lag when playing GT4?
Gotta love the GT40!
Is it worth the money to get the upgraded PC or stick to the playable PC?
Damn that driving was clean AF
This is the thing. Older games just needed better models, not really the actual graphics.
Polyphony understood that.
The PS2 could actually render at a higher resolution than what was shown as "PS2 Native" in the video. This is one of very few Playstation 2 titles that supported 1080i gameplay.
This man has a 2080. No wonder this is so smooth
Pcsx2 is 90% about your CPU...
Hi, settings are the same you listed, in granturismo4,,, the sharpness isnt there, i see videos with super clean graphics, dont know what i didnt dom Help please i'm missing this game and im really wanting to play it in smooth and clean4k... im in 2160p with FXAA enable, my machine Ryzen 5600x with 1080 ti !! thanks for the help !
What's the version of your PCSX2? I have v1.4.0 and I don't see the Mipmapping: Basic (Fast) and CRC Hack Level: Automatic (Default) settings. Also if I check Allow 8-bit Textures - Anisotropic Filtering: 16x is grayed out.
This is a cool comparison, can you also do the comparison with this game again but with 1080i vs 4K please?
Remember grand Turismo 2-3🥲😵💫
Comparison to 1080i would be more helpful as the game supported that mode on the PS2.
The theme music with millions of memories
PS2 Version is still fantastic
What monitor did you use?
I honestly didn't remember it looking that bad on PS2...either way very impressive, I'd definitely pay for a full on Remaster in 4k on the PS5.
Because the PS2 could actually output GT4 at 1080, but most people played PS2 on a CRT TVs which would usually show the image at a lower resolution, but CRTs smoothed out the edges naturally like a sort of anti aliasing simply from how the image was projected on the screen.
Emulating old games that used to be played on CRTs will almost always make them look worse than they did on a CRT.
This game was my childhood
I don't think this game will ever die...im not a gamer but my god is good.
That amazing differences in the screen split :)
to be fair, usually on the ps2 you'd be across the room and not having the tv right in front of you like when you watch on a phone or pc.
I am running this with exactly the same settings and the game don't look any where near as sharp as your video does.. any ideas what I may have done wrong, I am running a higher spec PC than what you have listed.
Figured it out... I was using PAL version as I am in europe... US version has 1080i mode.
What graphics card will give you the same look but the lowest cost??? 3070???
i don't recall gt4 on ps2 looking that pixelated but then again i had it on 1080i or p
Why the TC Offset Hack, what does it fix?
no matter what i do... cant get it to look this good
I notice a lot of shimmering on the PS2 but definitely cleaner on the emulator. And I used to have Gran Turismo 4
That shimmering was so ugly back in the day! The dreamcast looked way more cleaner with it's graphics.
Which controller do you use ?
Where is the comparison? Image is too choppy to notice a difference
How many computers would melt from trying to run this in 4K?
Hello. Can you make a tutorial how of proper installation of emulator and Gran Turismo 4?
I've copied your exact settings but despite everything the game still looks blurry. Is there any other setting that needs to be changed?
Don't forget to change the in-game screen settings to hdtv and the aspect ratio to 16:9
the filter turns GT 4 into GT 5
is pretty much now like a native OLD pc game with new harder and max resolution
The native resolution its wrong. PS2 native (internal) resolution:
480p renders the game at 640x448, 1080i at 576x960.
you do realise the game could run at 1080i on the PS2, right ?
Only on the NTSC version
but rendering resolution isn't 1080i on the ps2 ...
That just output resolution. Internally the game does not even run 480p (most PS2 games run internally at 512x448)
The lister storm always sucked 😂
How the hell does your emulator run so well on x8 native?
ive been emulating this game and enjoying it but there is certain issues with random crashes that are quite annoying to deal with.
Your childhoods
in *4K !*
Race Finish‼️🤞🏿 Miss that tune
i really want sony to make use of pcsx2 for the upcoming PS5, this would be such a selling point... (of course this won't happen)
Update: As i was saying... this won't happen... Thanks Sony for nothing :(
This game was awesome. Brings me back.
can we see any emulator settings?! mine is not really the same... but our rig is nearly the same....
I didnt know that New York circuit was in forza and gt. Idk if they're exactly the same layout but might be
Tried to run GT4 in PCSX2 once but the game was so screwed to the point that froze my entire computer.
Left looks better than this video when it's on a CRT instead of an LCD. But right is by far superior.
Ford vs Ferrariの映画やってからやたらGT40の動画増えたなぁ
やっぱりカッコイイもんね🐰🖤
なんせデザインがいいですから。ものっそい低いもん
GT4 could run in 720p and 1080i native on ps2, not as good as 4k but it still looks very clear
Hey...
You've got 5 gears.
