Ford Ranger Raptor - Taming 'The Beast' on Genting /3.0 Twin turbo / 397PS/583Nm / YS Khong Driving

- This is definitely the most powerful pick-up truck I have ever driven, with a 3.0 liter twin turbo gasoline engine that develops 397 PS of awesome power and 583Nm of torque.
Power is to the rear wheels through a 10-speed auto in default 2WD High mode, easily switchable on the fly to 4WD High. There is the usual 4WD Low ratio for you to go off-road. In addition there is a 4a mode, which makes engages 4WD as and when necessary. This mode makes the Raptor a little bit easier to handle.
Built on the Ford Ranger platform, the 2022 Raptor moves away from the conventional 2.0 liter twin turbo diesel, opting for a V6 3.0 liter twin turbo instead, and this opens up a totally new world for Malaysian Pickup trucks.
If I recall correctly there used to be a Mitsubishi 3.0 Gasoline model about 20 years ago, but it didn't gain any traction at that time.
If performance is anything to go by, the Raptor could very well be the ultimate truck insofar as pick-up trucks are concerned. With so much power on tap, despite its 2.4 tons kerb weight, the Raptor will certainly awe!
We actually went up twice - the first time, it was really wet and wild, so today's run was more of a 'revenge' run. Stay tuned for the wet run too.

Very impressive defensive driving! It makes light work of this nice road to Genting. Not reasonable for a truck but mighty desirable. You might be right it is a last opportunity to have something like this. You made me want one.

Honestly speaking it's still a truck and the confort handling level is still like a truck but for offroad yes with that power you will be the king..
my friend had a navara with tuned up, remap and bigger turbo, sold it when a stock FR raptor passed him on LPT.... one thing for sure, when uncle don't talk so much when driving, this is serious business....

The Fortuner was on dirt, and it had a lot less power. This one has more that twice the horsepower.

@@RAM-fy1hr I’m using 2016 T6 manual xlt for work going to estates. 320000km with no major issue on gearbox. Only wear & tear maintenance. Parts not expensive unless you buy at service centre. The one that complaint is people who use car without knowing the limit of the car and maintenance

@@northgirl9733 it’s all about schedule maintenance. You can buy 1 later. Mostly parts can be get at the dealers. Unless you searched for major parts like crankshaft, turbo , pcm, gearbox etc. dealer will search for you don’t worry .

i was confused by the speedometer. when i change the resolution it was showing both mp/h and km/h 😆 this is one of my favorite pickup truck and seeing uncle drove it up the genting is very2 awesome. never thought this pickup can do well at corners with all of that weight and with those tyres

Hi Sir.. you use 4A MODE while driving right? But why you off the traction control mode..not on the traction conttol mode? Sorry to ask this question cos i still newbie in truck handling. I just purchse this raptor few month ago.
A newbie should leave it on - if you male a mistake the system can help to save you

But it seems to be understeering more than oversteering - was it because of the 4A mode or would it be the same if it was in 2H?
In 2H you would get more oversteer.
What was the fuel consumption like?
Pajero i saw has worse fuel economy then ranger on paper but is it practical?
We're lookimg at around 8 to 9 km per liter or less.
This and the hilux gr sports. Which is more durable and reliable? (Apart from it being sporty also)
Uncle Don, this Raptor is a totally different animal. Not for the average Joe. This has a 393 horsepower gasoline turbo engine.

I'll get my truck meant for mud n towing ... not speed.. this beast is more for youngsters with rich dads . Let's see how well this does off roads where speed is not necessary
It will do just as well, because it has an off road mode, and actually has 4WD Low.

In Malaysia, it is RM260k. In comparison, the Ranger Wildtrack 2.0 diesel is RM169k, while the normal Ranger is RM149k.
That should give you some ratios to estimate yr price.

@@vcpornelos problem is when the new law adding excise tax to Pick-up trucks is passed. If that happened all the pick-up truck will become more expensive. I hope Raptor is out before that law is enacted.

How's the handling/performance against large suv similar spec?
Surprisingly it handles quite well, despite the AT tyres. A set of HTs might have made the difference. Of course with the awesome power, you will need to be careful with the throttle, but I would rather have the power there than not have any power at all.

With the proper weight transfer, it can be improved. Most vehicles on 4WD will understeer to a certain extent: it is made to do so as understeer is easier to control. If you have the tail whipping out in a corner it can be very scary. This is the most powerful truck available, btw.
