I have a great go to turkey recipe…thats easy…I am 62 and have never liked cooking just a whole turkey and when I found this recipe its my family’s favorite and my go to…Basically i get a 3-5 pound turkey breast, which i found mine for this year at Costco…but the breast go fast…thaw and then place in your crock pot…with one box of chicken broth, one package of onion soup mix…turn the crock pot on high and cook 5-6 hours…they tell you the internal meat should be 160-170 degrees to be done…it has always turned out excellent and is now the only way we will eat turkey…hope this may help others who may not want to cook a whole turkey.
I only cook a turkey breast every year as we just cant eat but a small amount. I have done the crockpot method & also love it as it stays so moist...but will try your pack on onion soup mix this year as it sounds great !
We do the same thing every year for about the last 10 years. No mess like cooking the whole turkey. Turkey pot pie, turkey soup, are made with the leftovers.
My husband's family is Mennonite and this is all very familiar... I always love having Thanksgiving back home with them. The key to making good pie crust is to keep trying... it's like quilting or crocheting... practice, practice, practice! Super easy pie crust: 1 1/3 C AP flour 1/3 C Shortening 1/2 tsp salt 4-6 T ice cold water 1 T Vodka Add salt to flour. Add shortening to flour & salt, using a pastry blender or a couple of butter knives to work some flour into the shortening. Do this until you have pea-sized pieces of shortening in the flour. Add vodka to ice water. (the colder the better, this helps the shortening stay stiff) Add 4 T of vodka/water to the blended flour & shortening and begin bringing the mixture together. Don't mix it too much, just until it comes into a ball. If you feel it's too dry, add 1 T vodka/water mixture at a time until all crumbs are worked in. The pastry should look marbled, not completely one color. The vodka will help slow the glutens from forming which will keep the crust tender. The crust may be a bit messy, but be sure to use generous amounts of flour on the bench so it doesn't stick. Let the dough rest in plastic wrap for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Take out the dough, flour your bench well, start flattening the ball of dough with your hands. Flour your rolling pin well and begin rolling outward, turning your dough for an even circle until it's about 1/4" thick. Flour your pin and the top of the dough a bit, then roll the dough onto the pin to transfer it to the pie plate. Cover with parchment paper and cover with dry beans or pie weights to par-bake for 10 minutes at 375 F. The beans or pie weights will help keep the sides of the crust from sinking into the pan when the shortening softens. Fill your pie and bake according to instructions.
RUclips brought this video to my attention. I have been watching videos on how to make dressing as my Mom always made it for Thanksgiving but she passed away October 9th. Small world as I'm from Plain City, Ohio and very familiar with Der Dutchman. Thank you for the video!
What a fun fact Lynette! My hubby and I have eaten at the DerDutchman in Waynesville many many times, it was a sad day when the fire happened and closed for good! Congrats on your newest blessing! Thanks for sharing your life and family with us...God bless you!!!! Donna & Ralph from Trenton Ohio
Your videos are so cosy and comforting, thank you Lynette! I'd love to come over for dinner and sample the yummy food! The pumpkin pies you made looked so good, I think I'll try the recipe.
I make my stuffing with the ground sausage that comes in the tube, Jimmy Dean sage one and makes such a great flavor. I use the cut up onions and celery too and shredded carrots.
Oh i didn’t realise it was celebrated in Canada! Thought it was just a USA thing. What do you give thanks for there? I’m in New Zealand, no thanksgiving here at all.
My family is buried out there at the Waynesville cemetery my mother including.. and we always went there to have lunch as a family. Such great memories and such fantastic food!!
It's fun to see how others feast for Thanksgiving. This year will be different for me as my sister-in-law, nephew, and I are now gluten-free. Thanksgiving is traditionally very gluten-heavy in my family, so it'll be a big change.
Same for us. My 7yo dd is a type 1 diabetic and has celiac disease, so very strict no gluten. I bought some gf white bread and may do up the dressing with that. The bread is so dry naturally and I feel like the gf bread would soak up broth or milk really well!
Hey hey it’s Tuesday and another great video from the lovely Lynette Yoder , and what a great it is all yummy looking recipes thanks for sharing Lynette 😀
I grew up near Amish Country in Ohio. I worked at Das Dutch Kitchen in Dalton and Der Dutchman in Plain City! Thanks for sharing these wonderful recipes. My mom makes her dressing very similar to this. We love the Walnut Creek foods and visiting Amish Country!
A side note related to the dressing, my Mom always cans ‘dressing vegetables’ so that it’s really handy to grab a small jar of diced up potatoes, carrots & celery ready to be added to the dressing! That helps cut down on prep time...pun intended. 😉 they’re also really handy to have on hand for soups etc.
Oh my gracious your dressing must be delicious, it looked amazing!!! When you were talking about frying the dressing I was like, do what!!! Definitely will make this recipe. Your potato’s, another oh my gracious!! Always enjoy your channel.
My mothers family is from Lancaster PA - and we always called it dressing - my grandmothers recipe also has celery, bread and potatoes - but it’s more of a mashed potato consistency - baked first and even more delicious fried the next day. Looking forward to thanksgiving for sure. Always enjoy your videos and your lovely family.
I am in Lebanon Co, just a bit north of Lancaster Co, and we call that potato filling. Yum! I just wrote a similar thing, about frying it the next day, before I scrolled down to read your post.
You are so correct - sorry I misspoke - filling is what I should have typed in - to me it’s always better the next day fried….and I make it several days before we eat it - delicious….
I’m from Wisconsin.I just placed my first order with them. Thanks to you for the tip. I,will also try to make mashed potatoes the way you do it. At 80 years old, I’m glad to,learn something new.
My dad makes mashed potatoes the same way (minus the brown butter)! Definitely not healthy, but so worth it lol! Thanks for sharing these recipes! I have never seen dressing fried but I love the crispy part so I might have to try it out.
Ahh girl, you making me hungry at 5am this morning! All these recipes sound delicious. I will be trying that dressing recipe for sure. We were in Schafferstown PA for 2 yrs awhile back and I worked in a Med office across from a Dutchway...that was the best ever. First time ever trying certain things..Shoo-fly pie and bacon dressing..that was my favorite! God bless you and the family..❤
Everything you made looks delicious! I definitely need to try the dressing and mashed potatoes! I ate at the Waynesville Der Dutchman a few times. I've been to the Bellville and Walnut Creek locations several times. I always pack a cooler when I go to Holmes County so I can stock up at Walnut Creek cheese! Fall is my favorite time to go. Holmes County is so beautiful in the fall!
Everything looked so good but I've never ever seen dressing made with potatoes and milk in it then fried. Looked delicious.I grew up with cornbread dressing and it's baked.
Same! I was just coming to say the same thing! I don't think I have ever even read a recipe that had potatoes in the dressing, or fried? We always do cornbread and bake it, or sometimes we have sausage and cornbread if feeling a little extra fancy.....lol
@@Macgirlie76 Same also! That's what I just opened the comments to say as well. I love it though and thought it looked SO good. I am half Portuguese and that is the side that heavily influences the food I make. My "stuffing" has sausage and Portuguese chourico in it for the meat. We never have stuffing or dressing all year except on Thanksgiving because I save it so it's special. I think I'm actually going to take this recipe to use it at other times of the year. Loved this video!!!
I've not seen this version either, but we make stuffing balls. Diced white bread, celery, onion, butter, chicken stock or turkey drippings, and seasonings. Mix and form into balls about the size of a cupcake and bake until brown. My favorite part of Thanksgiving.
or meat, ours is celery onion poultry seasoning with day old bread and sometimes chesnuts for Thanksgiving. chicken broth for moisture or an egg baked in casserole dish
It all looked scrumptious, Lynette! 😋 Oaklyn is adorable! 💕 You look great...I’m sure you’re all looking forward to the new baby! Love from Ormond Beach❣️
I have never heard of grape pie! I would love it, if you could make one some time! On your recommendation, I placed a gigantic order with Walnut Creek, they are AWESOME. Everything arrived in perfect condition and was delicious. The cheeses came in a cooler, so they arrived cold and fresh, and were out of this world delicious, best sharp cheddar I have ever had, and the swiss and other cheeses were great, too. I highly recommend that people give them a try, their mail order is terrific.
All the dishes look yummy. Oaklynn's smiles after taste test proves they were winners! Your dressing is similar to our fried hash. I just use bread dressing with apples, onions, cranberries, raisen, celery, carrots, herbs like Rosemary, parsley, thyme, sage, basil, oregano and summer savory. I add butter and a little broth and poultry seasoning as well. I don't add meat as I stuff my turkey with this and bake the extra on the side. Some of my family don't eat meat but love this.
So glad you shared the dressing & frying it! My grandmother used to make hers in cakes of dressing and fry them. I didn’t know until years later she put chopped gizzards in hers. I loved it with gravy and whole berry cranberries….forget everything else! I live in Middletown, Ohio a few miles south of Waynesville but never had the pleasure of eating at Der Deutchler (sorry for misspelling) but everyone raved about how good it was. It was a sad day when it burned down. One tip on the turkey…..put in a roaster, add 1 cup boiling water, place tightly covered foil or lid, place in 500 degree oven one hour, turn off oven … do not open oven door. Allow 20 minutes for every pound….comes out perfect every time. note: for more accuracy, double check by looking up Trisha Yearwood’s easy Turkey recipe. That’s where I got it from. Easy & delicious. Thank you for sharing & happy baby & happy holidays❤️
Cooking a Turkey is very easy. I rub mine with oil and season salt and add a tiny bit of water in the bottom, cover with foil and cook until done. It's always juicy and never dry. It smells so good Cooking. I make my giblet gravey with juice from the Turkey and eggs add some dressing and serve. I've been doing this for years.
I have never had Dressing fixed that way. Wow! I'm blown away!!! It looks so good, I am going to have to try it that way this year. Also, no shame in buying your pie crust. I 'make' mine but like you said, I never make pie bc I dont enjoy [making] the crust. I love pie tho. My family would love me if I would just buy the crust.
Awe, I’ve eaten at the Waynesville Der Dutchman a number of times. We’d go to Waynesville when we would visit family in Cedarville. Loved shopping there, especially at Christmas. Small world.
Interesting filling/stuffing/dressing recipe. Close to what we call Potato filling, here in PA Dutch country. But that does not have chicken in it. We bake the potato filling and will fry leftovers. I have a recipe (I love) that uses sausage, such as the Bob Evens that comes in a roll, then use leeks vs the mix of veggies you used and bake it. They are all SO GOOD!!! Yum! Now I am making myself hungry!
I’ve never seen the technique of rolling the whisk handle between your hands. I can’t wait to try it!!! My dressing recipe is very similar. I buy turkey thighs and cook with onion and celery, drain, then pick meat off bone. I use the meat in my stuffing. I have never seen frying stuffing either. Thank you for sharing.
Great show thanks so much. One of my hints for mashed potatoes is heating some milk and butter up before you mash and gradually beat in. I have been successful with my potatoes.
I have never seen dressing made that way before. The most my mother in law ever put in was some breakfast sausage and vegetables. That looks good though!
I found a pumpkin roll recipe where you also fold in the egg whites and it's the best, fluffiest pumpkin roll I have ever tasted! Thank you for sharing your techniques.
I can't wait for Thanksgiving! Dressing and pumpkin pie are my favorites 😋. We like turkey so much I often make it 2 or 3 times a year in addition to Thanksgiving.
How interesting to fry the dressing in a pan! I've never seen it that way. We always put ours in a casserole dish in the oven. everything in the video looks super yummy
I was going to say the same thing. My stepmom and mother in law made the best stuffing/dressing. They both baked it in the oven. This looks delicious but would definitely take more time with a big batch
Canadian Thanksgiving is already past, but I enjoyed your video. Our pumpkin pie filling is definitely a custard, with eggs and evaporated milk, and my mom always makes too much so I can enjoy it as a baked custard. She puts the extra filling in a baking dish and bakes it.
Interesting dressing recipe. You're food always looks delish! We make southern cornbread dressing baked in the oven. Usually no meat, never used potatoes and carrots, just celery and onion. I normally use cornbread and some bagged stuffing cubes. No milk, just chicken or turkey broth and only 1-2 eggs, with some poultry seasoning, sage, salt and pepper.
New subscriber here, I lived upstate ny in Romulus ny for 3 yrs and use to get fresh eggs 🥚 from our wonderful Amish neighbors. Thank you for sharing ! 🤗🤗
Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek, Ohio is my favorite. I lived in Newcomerstown for 13 years and it was a quick trip for me. I miss being near the Sugar Creek Bulk store to get all my fresh Holiday spices etc.
I used to go to Waynesville all the time to go shopping in all of those primitive stores...Haberdashery etc...there was an old church that they made into a primitive store...love that whole town.. :D
My family always put oysters in our turkey dressing. We would have hot turkey sandwiches the Saturday after Thanksgiving. My Mom would take the carcass, turkey drippings , meat from the turkey, and make turkey noodle soup.
Our Church’s seniors group from Miamisburg used to go to Der Dutchman in Waynesville for our Christmas dinners. We also met with our state group at the Plain City Der Dutchman for our annual meeting. Always great food!
I have never made dressing with potatoes, nor have I ever fried it! I stuff my turkey with it and bake it in the oven and/or make stuffing balls with any leftovers. I also put diced onions in mine. Your recipe looks delicious! Definite eggs into the pumpkin pie…whole eggs though, and I use fresh pumpkin that I’ve cooked…soooooo good. I have used canned pumpkin, as well, and it’s great, too!
Always so interesting to see how we all make dressing so differently. I do onions/celery cooked down in broth, then let it absorb into crumbled cornbread, then add more broth, then eggs to set it. And it’s baked like a casserole. It’s clearly the correct way 😂 Yours would freeze much better/more safely if you don’t add the raw egg in prior to freezing FYI.
My husband and I took a trip to Florida this summer and part of that was in Sarasota. We ate at Der Dutchman twice! It was so good. I'm originally from Pennsylvania Dutch country and it was similar to food I grew up on. :)
My mashed potato recipe is similar to yours but I have found that just baking the potatoes in the skins, then cutting them in half and scooping out the insides is so much easier than peeling. It gives the potatoes more flavor to cook with the skins on. Love your recipes and your channel.
Waynesville is a charming town. My Aunt, Uncle and their 7 children lived in Waynesville. I grew up in Middletown not far from there. Love your recipes as ALWAYS!
Hi Lynette hope you’re doing good I saw OAKLYNN she’s adorable I’ve never made dressing with potatoes but I’m gonna try that this year for Thanksgiving I’ve done your mashed potatoes before and I’m gonna try your recipe for the pumpkin pies Everything looks yummy I’ve tried several of your recipes and they’re always great Hope you have a great weekend many blessings to you and your family take care your friend Kathy❤️👍🙏
Good morning Lynette! Your cooking videos are my very favorite. Wonderful recipes . . . they make me so hungry for Thanksgiving day! Oakland is as cute as can be. She is getting so big and her little personality really shines through. You have a lovely family and you're an amazing Mom! Be blessed today, friend!
🌺Your videos are great! I am new to your site & I really your meal prep/ cooking. Seeing you beautiful family is also enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your life with us Lynette
The baby with the potato spatula was everything! I’m surprised they don’t get gummy after all that time in the mixer though! I’ve never fried dressing (always baked) and have never put in potatoes or chicken but it sounds good. Almost like a cross between dressing and hash. (My Portuguese side adds chouriço and now I’m thinking of how amazing a red or even sweet potato would be in there.) I like the idea of adding whipped egg whites to lighten up the pumpkin custard. Have a great holiday!
I make my potatoes that way also but after I mix it all together we r I put in baking dish top with butter parmason cheese and paprika and bake at 350 for 1 hour or a little less.It is nice when you have a big get together. You can make day before or soon and freeze thaw before baking.
I just got my copy of Hope’s Table and I can’t wait to make something from it. Highly recommend it if for nothing other than the information in it. I’m thinking making the Poor Man’s Steak tomorrow.
Everything looks so tasty, and It’s so interesting to see the differences between Mennonites in different regions. We don’t add chicken or potatoes to our dressing (just lots of butter, onions, celery, and spices) 😊 So excited for Thanksgiving Dinner!
I’m so hungry right now after watching you cook. I’m eager to taste your dressing and possibly adding sausage to go with the chicken. No need to wait for Thanksgiving if you ask me. For mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, your recipes are much appreciated and I’ll serve it on the holiday. I don’t have a little one to help me in the kitchen as you do but I’ll manage though she’s a treat.
I have never made dressing/stuffing on top of the stove but now I will. Also, those potatoes will be on my table this Thanksgiving. Love sweet Oakland and her Momma.
Everything looked delicious! Been meaning to try your mashed potatoes with brown butter, yum. & wow, that pie & dressing is just making me miss Thanksgiving (im from canada, living in Morocco, so tend to miss all my regular holidays.) Thx Lynette 🥰✌
Hi Lynette... I have been watching for awhile, and really enjoying your vids. Your children are super adorable. I am a new subscriber, and can not wait for your next vid. Have a fun day Surie
Love your recipes, we have a little grocery store near us that sells the Walnut Creek brand, I would love if you have a potatoe salad recipe and a coleslaw recipe, we ate at a Amish restaurant in Indiana and loved the salads.
I kept waiting on the onions for the stuffing, and then there was potatoes. Wow. That is totally different than any other recipe I have seen. And I never heard of frying it. We just put it all in the oven and bake it. That was very interesting! Thank you for the recipes. And Happy Thanksgiving! :)
Lynette, love your channel and your lovely family. Tip from Older Wiser One: spread a slightly dampened cloth under your cutting board so it doesn't move arround while you are chopping. ❣

Thanks for the recipe!
We do the same thing every year for about the last 10 years. No mess like cooking the whole turkey. Turkey pot pie, turkey soup, are made with the leftovers.
Great idea! Thank you
This is perfect. Thanks for sharing!
My husband's family is Mennonite and this is all very familiar... I always love having Thanksgiving back home with them. The key to making good pie crust is to keep trying... it's like quilting or crocheting... practice, practice, practice!
Super easy pie crust:
1 1/3 C AP flour
1/3 C Shortening
1/2 tsp salt
4-6 T ice cold water
1 T Vodka
Add salt to flour.
Add shortening to flour & salt, using a pastry blender or a couple of butter knives to work some flour into the shortening.
Do this until you have pea-sized pieces of shortening in the flour.
Add vodka to ice water. (the colder the better, this helps the shortening stay stiff)
Add 4 T of vodka/water to the blended flour & shortening and begin bringing the mixture together.
Never saw dressing with so much milk nor fried. Learn every day
I’ve never seen dressing made like that. It looks absolutely amazing!!! I am definitely going to make it. Thank you so much.

👌
I put apples in mine
love sausage in my dressing as well. The turkey is sufficient meat for me as a stand alone.
Just like mine, but I add lots of dried cranberries and poultry seasoning.
In Canada we've already had Thanksgiving, but this makes me want to celebrate American Thanksgiving as well! 😄
Yum Yum!
Come join us Americans anytime
Why not.
Oh i didn’t realise it was celebrated in Canada! Thought it was just a USA thing. What do you give thanks for there?

Awe, I’ve eaten at the Waynesville Der Dutchman a number of times. We’d go to Waynesville when we would visit family in Cedarville. Loved shopping there, especially at Christmas. Small world.
Oh, Lynette this all looks like perfect comfort food.
I have the same freezer boxes from my husbands amish and Mennonite grandmother, we also freeze roasht in them
I always cook my potatoes with garlic and also mash them with after. Love it. Sometimes i ad dill
Ha! I need to get a handheld beater again. I just don’t have a lot of extra drawer space so I don’t have all the extras.
Great show thanks so much. One of my hints for mashed potatoes is heating some milk and butter up before you mash and gradually beat in. I have been successful with my potatoes.
The food looks like it taste delicious. Your daughter is completely adorable! God bless you all!!
I have never seen dressing made that way before. The most my mother in law ever put in was some breakfast sausage and vegetables. That looks good though!
I see Hope's Table cookbook in the back ground. I have it too and absolutely love it!! My family loves all of her recipes.
We go to the Das Essenhaus restaurant in Shipshewana Indiana and their dressing is just like this!! It's the best I've ever had!!
Ikr? Interesting!
What an amazing cook you are
Your family is so fortunate .
I love, love, watching your channel, for so many reasons. The love you share as a mother and the care you share to all , thank you!
I make home-made crust and freeze them, but when I had small children at home I did it exactly like you did....
I am in awe! I have made dressings so many different ways but, I have never sen it fried like that. I can't wait to try this!
I am totally going to try your potato recipe and the pumpkin pie. I love watching your videos. And Oaklynn is so very adorable! 😊
If never heard of fried dress before. Looks wonderful, I’d like to try it.
It’s clearly the correct way 😂
Yours would freeze much better/more safely if you don’t add the raw egg in prior to freezing FYI.
Mashed potatoes with the brown butter look amazing as do the pumpkin pies.. Thank you for sharing.
Went to Walnut Creek cheese last weekend. Ate at DerDutchman. Yum! Congrats on the new one to come. Enjoy your channel so much.
That is crazy, my family is all from Waynesville Ohio!!! Both my parents worked there as teens.
My mom taught us girls how to make the brown butter! Growing up us children called it "fried butter"!
And Sarasota, Florida has one!! We lived there when the restaurant burned . It was awful
Lynette....the dressing preparation was totally new for me. Potatoes and carrots added with the celery, then frying!🤯 I will try it!!
Me too!!!
Thank you! I’ve never tried potatoes in Dressing - but I have used butternut squash.
I love going to Amish places and love their foods
Dressing looked really good!!!! Oaklyn is adorable
Love the ideas on how to make your potatoes with the butter on top
You had me at BROWNED BUTTER! Making these potatoes tonight!!
I have never made dressing/stuffing on top of the stove but now I will. Also, those potatoes will be on my table this Thanksgiving. Love sweet Oakland and her Momma.
Everything looked delicious! Been meaning to try your mashed potatoes with brown butter, yum. & wow, that pie & dressing is just making me miss Thanksgiving (im from canada, living in Morocco, so tend to miss all my regular holidays.) Thx Lynette 🥰✌
thank you for all you're doing & I especially love the background music you play... those recipes look yummy I'll have to try them
Mmmmm Der Dutchman. Was there in Holmes county 2 weeks ago and I’m ready to go again!
Hi Lynette, I've never seen stuffing fried before.....I always bake it. But it looked delicious. Stuffing is my favorite. I can eat it cold too. 😍
All my favorite Thanksgiving foods! Getting ready to put in my very 1st Walnut Creek Foods order. Hi Miss Oaklynn..I see you! 🤗
Hi Lynette...
I have been watching for awhile, and really enjoying your vids. Your children are super adorable.
I am a new subscriber, and can not wait for your next vid.
Have a fun day
Surie
Love your recipes, we have a little grocery store near us that sells the Walnut Creek brand, I would love if you have a potatoe salad recipe and a coleslaw recipe, we ate at a Amish restaurant in Indiana and loved the salads.
Hmm never heard of frying dressing. Interesting! Will have to try it.
Wow Lynette I have never seen dressing cooked like that, looks very good and interesting. Love your kitchen helper. TFS
Lynette, love your channel and your lovely family. Tip from Older Wiser One: spread a slightly dampened cloth under your cutting board so it doesn't move arround while you are chopping. ❣
Yes 😄 I should. I do do that’s sometimes. I was lazy I guess. Also I notice it looks a lot worse when I speed up the videos 😁
I went to Waynesville to the dentist from 6th grade through high school and beyond, but we never went to a restaurant there! I really missed out.
