If you'd like to see the cheap locations on a map with addresses watch the video in the Citizine player here: www.citizine.tv/video/top-9-best-cheap-eats-in-waikiki-hawaii Did I miss your favorite cheap eat in Waikiki? Let me know!
Thank you so much!! My wife and I visited several of your recommendations and were never disappointed. She was super impressed that I knew about all these cool places to eat. Your video made our trip more fun and adventurous!!!
Love your videos Chris! We are in Oahu right now and the Blue Water Shrimp is closed at the food court 🙁. We’ve taken advantage of the other recommendations and they are awesome! Thanks for all you do!
Hello guys a little bit late but just an update Blue Water Shrimp moved to the Waikiki Hilton Village resort area, one of my favorite places to eat while visiting Oahu!
We are in town for the first time right now. Your video has been helpful. Henry's ice cream is great. We liked Marukame Udon as well as Teddy's Burgers. We also used the Royal food court. Thanks for the tips!
This is the first video of your I watched. I was planning a trip to Oahu and came across it and just really liked your personality and video. After that I was hooked 🤣
I loved watching some of your Japan videos (I went in April) , had no idea you came to Hawaii this year! I love watching videos about where I'm from because I'm always curious about what other travelers think about Hawaii. Great video! I always thought Ala Moana had one of the best food courts. They are actually going to open up another food court where Shirokiya used to be! You'll have to come back and do a video on it!
Discovered Henry's in 1979 on my first yearly trip to Waikiki. The old man and his wife had a fruit stand just behind my $20 room at the Coral Seas. We ate out of that stand. Most of their produce came from their garden. I tried exotic fruits and we could get simple sandwiches for $1.25. Eventually they added to go foods as well as ice cream for $2-3. They briefly moved to a little store front across from the Halekulani but are now back in the original location. Behind a business like Henry's and Rainbow Drive In are wonderful personal stories. Plantation workers who started little businesses. Hawaii is legacy. Scratch the surface and you'll be delighted you did. Thanks for mentioning the old heritage businesses alive and well in & near Waikiki.
Just want to say that I really enjoy your videos. The production quality is excellent, your narration has great tone and is enjoyable to listen to. You should have a hosting job on the Travel channel. BTW, you have a similar cadence to Mark Summers. Thank you for the videos!!!
As a rule, I stay out of shopping malls when in Hawaii, but I've heard many good things about the food court at the Ala Moana mall. Now after seeing the video, I've Gotta go there.
Thank you so much for your video. I'm in Waikiki for the 1st time and your suggestions are very helpful. These places may be cheap for very rich in flavour and variety.
I’m from Honolulu and go home every year. Things change fast! Appreciate the great video! Please, though, it’s pronounced mu su BI, not mu SU bi. Thanks.
Taking students to Oahu in two weeks and I cannot THANK YOU ENOUGH. Students have such a tendency to go for McDonalds. You can eat "cheap" and still get culture!
U did a great job, but (for local kine grinds), I’d probably add a few more to your list: L&L, Loco Moco, Manapua Factory, Zippy’s, Young’s Fish market, etc.
I agree w/Marukame. I actually have been known to drive from Mililani to eat there. $30 for family of six and Udon is delicious. I'm not even an Udon eater. If you're visiting Oahu, gotta go there.
thanks for this amazing video info. I'm travelling to Hawaii (Oahu) from Sydney Australia in September for two weeks vacay. never been to Hawaii before. it's really good to know where to get something to eat that won't break the budget.
My fav ..panda chicken orange ...sabato ..coconut ice cream ..korean barbeque ...sea food at sheraton htl breakfast at hilton htl ...I love all the food so delicious ....mama mia .
Been to quite a few of these places. One place I see missing is Barefoot Beach Cafe, 2699 Kalakaua Ave. I've had quite a few really good plates there. One of my favs was the Kalua Pork and cabbage......Delectable.
I’m looking forward to going to Hawaii I’m going to use all of your tips to the different places to eat and not think me and my cousin are going to have a fabulous time
I just came back from Waikiki today, and it's incredible that I don't see lines of people in front of Marukame Udon in the video. in all my three time visits there, the lines were just insane. but it well deserved, they are great and cheap! (great list, by the way)
I live here and walk by quite often. If it’s early afternoon there’s usually no line. But late afternoon until it closes always a huge line. Funny thing is we have one downtown Honolulu and it’s never busy. It’s really just a tourist place and the Yokocho food court has many restaurants with way better noodles. Truth.
This was great to watch as a local of Oahu.. We hardly ever get to Waiks, so now I can figure out where i want to eat before wandering all over Waikiki looking for a good spot. I would make sure tho, if you go to the Ala Moana food court, I would observe their sanitation practices before you place your order. Oh by the way it is MOO-SUE-BEE.
Me too Tim, Launui and Ala Wai. Been down Beach Walk countless times and have eaten at every restaurant. How did I miss this? Psst, have you tried Lahaina shave ice? They just opened about 6 months ago. Pretty good.
I was in Waikiki last week, found a sweet spot for cheap awesome Ahi Poke and lotsa other japanese food. Shaka Poke ,.. Waikiki shopping plaza,. Lower Level, 2250 Kalakaua Ave, . try the beef udon,.. the broth is crazy good!!
About three years ago, I stayed in Waikiki for about a month. Basically bumming around and getting back into the groove of living in the USA. You were correct about Marukame Udon: Many nights that place had a very, very long line. I'm not a fan of Udon, so I never gave them a try. I'm surprised you didn't hit Gyu-Kaku (Yakiniku spot) on Lewers. Nice pricing scheme, delicious food and friendly staff. Also surprised you didn't hit Chinatown. Some nice food there.
I've been to Gyukaku many times in Japan and in California... It's delicious! And Chinatown is great in Oahu as well! I probably need to do a whole video on Chinatown. I wanted this video specifically to be things that are within walking distance of most people's hotels, which are typically Waikiki
@@YellowProductions If you like udon and feel like you want to venture a bit outside of Waikiki, try Jimbo Restaurant, a long-time favorite local spot for homemade udon.
Thanks for this vid which is super helpful, full of tips. My internal calculator kept adding it all up though 😩. Waikiki can still be expensive even on the cheap/dime, but feasible for large traveling groups.
Thanks for your recommendation, this is a really good and helpful video. I just tried them last week in Waikiki. The best is the blue water shrimp garlic 🍤!
The Rainbow Drive inn plate can be shared by two people and they will still get their fill. Thanks for making this. Didn’t know about the Japanese food court at Ala Moana
Instead of Shirokiya go to yokocho food court in the basement of 2250 Kalakaua. Similar Japanese style restaurants and central bar with cheap drinks. You can’t go wrong eating anywhere but I highly recommend Ramen at Ono-ya or the Mazesoba at Nin-Nin. Bario ramen is pretty good too.
Yes steak shake been there. it’s really good. Sorry much of been a bad day for Teddy’s. Very bad. Go to Buffalo Wild Wings get the burger. It’s awesome.
great video, were going to Oahu this month, I will make sure we hit some of these spots. Never knew what a Musubi was, now I want to make sure I try it, with Spam of course.
Awesome video! When I went last year I walked past so many of these places and never went in! Unfortunately most of the awesome eats I wanted to go to were closed. This year I'm definitely prepared. Thanks for the tips! What are your thoughts on Chinatown? Is there awesome spots around there other than the Pig and the Lady?
+Lauren De la Cruz Awesome.. hopefully you'll enjoy some of these eats this time when they are open! I like the Chinese food in Chinatown. I really like Dim Sum. I think Legend serves good dim sum for lunch although they only get 3.5 on Yelp... But I'm convinced all Chinese Dim Sum restaurants on Yelp never seem to get more than 3.5. Chinese are tough raters :)
Dim sum in Chinatown is so delicious, authentic and cheap! Plus, you get better produce in the stalls there for much cheaper than at chain grocery stores.
Marakame Udon has some insanely long lines. Do not come hungry. There is a HISteaks nook inside Food Pantry that has some great steak-and-rice bento boxes to go for $8-9. You can also order food as in a cafe. And Food Pantry is crazy expensive. I remember seeing a Skippy jar, 16 oz size of peanut butter...Manager's Special-$5.99. WOW!!!! They have some great coconut cake slices on sale for 99 cents. I used to get those all the time for breakfast. Thanks for the vid. Gonna check out Rainbow Drive-In for plate lunch next time.
FYI the food pantry closed last year and was torn down. There is no grocery store in Waikiki anymore. Well, sort of. There’s a food pantry Eaton Square but that might as well be McCully.

We hit the Steak Shack last night, incredible value.
Love your videos Chris! We are in Oahu right now and the Blue Water Shrimp is closed at the food court 🙁. We’ve taken advantage of the other recommendations and they are awesome! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks Jason! Sad to hear about Bluewater.. the pandemic must've gotten them. Try Giovannis Shrimp at the H Mart food court in Kaakaako
Hello guys a little bit late but just an update Blue Water Shrimp moved to the Waikiki Hilton Village resort area, one of my favorite places to eat while visiting Oahu!

Just know, though not advertised, McDonalds in Waikiki has the dollar menu. You just have to ask.

This is the first video of your I watched. I was planning a trip to Oahu and came across it and just really liked your personality and video. After that I was hooked 🤣
Very cool Caroline! Always interesting to hear what people's "gateway" videos are :)
I loved watching some of your Japan videos (I went in April) , had no idea you came to Hawaii this year! As a rule, I stay out of shopping malls when in Hawaii, but I've heard many good things about the food court at the Ala Moana mall. Now after seeing the video, I've Gotta go there.
It is really good! Check out both the main food court and the Japanese food court at Ala Moana.

I love how diverse their cuisine is
Adagio Breeze looks mostly Asian influenced. Mostly Japanese and Korean
I agree. It is a huge Asian influence by end of week its tiring.
Very nice tips! Thanks for uploading
My pleasure Joao!
Thanks for your cheap eats review. I'll be there in December. Great job Bro.......
I’m from Honolulu and go home every year. Things change fast! Appreciate the great video! Please, though, it’s pronounced mu su BI, not mu SU bi. Thanks.

I’ve been to Oahu 7 times and haven’t heard of hardly any of these but the food court and rainbow drive in. I’ll have to try them next time I go

Thanks for the video!
This is really well done. I used to live in Honolulu, and I learned something new.
Thanks Michelle!
Moo-sue-bee for me! and going to Henry's tomorrow. Nice video and recommendations.
Thanks! Moo-sue-bee is a fun word to say! Enjoy Henry's!
Pamela Santos Bermudes how was Henry's? Any other you'd recommend?
Henry's was great, I had the coconut ice cream. ONO! Let me think about some other great local spots you can try on your next trip out.
Pamela Santos Bermudes heading there for New Years. Still hovering over this comment and video. Let me know thank you!
I thought I was the only one being irked by the mispronunciation of Musubi.
This was great to watch as a local of Oahu.. We hardly ever get to Waiks, so now I can figure out where i want to eat before wandering all over Waikiki looking for a good spot. Kris Deagle that's right! My fav!!!

Very cool! Enjoy Waikiki!

Yeah.. Waikiki is pricey
Honestly the prices as the places he mentions is about as cheap of vacation food you can find anywhere. Even outside Waikiki.
There’s a food court on The Kuhio side of the International Marketplace that has decent prices. Also $2 Kirin at the bar all day long.
Thanks for your recommendation, this is a really good and helpful video. I just tried them last week in Waikiki. The best is the blue water shrimp garlic 🍤!
Thanks Shiloh! Glad you liked the shrimp!
Thank yoi!,, so informative!,,
Thanks Sun!
I love your videos i going to waikiki next moth thank you so much :)
Thanks Lizzie!
Blazin’ Steaks!!
Hi Chris I'm currently on vacation in Honolulu. I went to some of those restaurants you showed and they had good prices and food was good
Awesome!
June 2019 we def gonna be eatingn
The Rainbow Drive inn plate can be shared by two people and they will still get their fill. Thanks for making this. Didn’t know about the Japanese food court at Ala Moana
Thanks Chris. Unfortunately the pandemic wasn't good to the Japanese Food court at Ala Moana so I'm not sure its there anymore
when i saw the subway sign at first i was about to flip out and close this channel lol.
+FootSoulgerZ Krew Don't worry.. I'm definitely not recommending Subway in any video ever! :)
LOL awesome ill be in Waikiki in 3 weeks :)
Yellow Productions why not?
