Waikiki Meaning: “Wai” means fresh water, and “kiki” means spring-thus its nickname, “Spouting Fresh Water.” It is basically the Las Vegas Strip of Hawaii.
Waikiki is not Japan: Lots of Japanese tourists, lots of Japanese writing, busses for Japanese only, shops that cater to Japanese, Japanese Food...
Hotels: The Moana Surfrider, built in 1901, was the first hotel in Waikiki.
Transportation: Walk! Parking in Waikiki is expensive
- Royal Hawaiian Center for validation.
- JCB Card for Waikiki Trolley
- The Bus is pretty good too
Shopping: Duty Free Store -- Everyone Can Shop there and it's duty free
- And yes, they accept Yen

- Especially in the Japanese ones.
- Visitor Information Center, located in a Gazebo at the Diamond Head end of the Waikiki strip, Corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua
Language: English and Hawaiian -- but also Pidgin English.
- only state in the union with 2 official languages.
- In Waikiki you would think Japanese is a third official language
- Say Aloha!
- Hey Brah = Get your attention
- Braddah = Brother
- Wahine = Girl
Weather: Pretty Warm Year Round. BUT HUMID!!!!
ABC Store: Located on every corner. Everything you could possibly need.
Booking Stands: Avoid them like the plague -- oh, and avoid timeshares!

- Buskers on Kalakaua
- Friday Fireworks at the HHV

You say soy sauce, we say shoyu
Spam: Spam is super popular in Hawaii. The difference is locals know how to cook it right, creating Spam musubi and Spam sushi.
Saimen: Local-style noodle soup.
Musubi (Spam Sushi Roll):
Loco Moco: rice, fried egg and hamburger patty, topped with gravy and a dash of shoyu.
Bento: A sushi lunchbox.

He's catching feelings because Hawaii embraces Japanese lol
I saw hundreds of Japanese tourists at the USS Arizona memorial. They were very somber.
Yeah, Pearl Harbor still pisses me off and I wasn’t alive then. Such a sad day in history.
@Save Planet Earth Book how
@Save Planet Earth Book his wife is Chinese. But I agree he does feel salty on how Waikiki catering to Japanese tourists.
@Save Planet Earth Book how can you call someone racist for saying facts 💀 go outside. You seem bored with life.
I went earlier this year and was such an amazing experience and I wish to go back as soon as possible
I am an Englishman who visited Hawaii’ for the first time this year. I thought the whole island was superb with a great vibe and friendly people. Sure it was a bit crowded but it was friendly and chilled. It cost a fortune to get there but was just about worth it.
I live in Hawaii and honestly just keep track if your stuff it's pretty safe here lol and respect everyone.
That's good to hear! :)
Thanks for your information, we're planning on going in September 2020
Thank you so much!! Coming to visit a friend next month!!!

Yellow Productions it was very helpful thanks I live right by there
Umm you had 12 twice that is why
#15 Do not wear shorts with pockets, sand will go in there and make a rash.

Love your tips! Thanks!!
Thanks Karen!
Thanks for the update! Wish I heard this before I went last year ;-)
Thanks Tom :)
everybody love the Japanese tourists! they're the most preferred tourists in Bali as well.
polite, well mannered, not cheapskates.
But suck at traffic etiquette.
I agree
They're also not as fkn racist as Americans! These comments are so typical
ELITE-DELTA -117 I would say Japanese are better at traffic than Americans tbh
We weren’t real thrilled to see them arrive in “41”.
Ok. Drinking game. Drink every time he mentions Japan/Japanese.
That's alot of drinking! :)
Make it a Japanese alcoholic beverage! 😂
Or Waikiki
you're mean every time he mentions waikikiiiii one shot ;-)
Lmao
:D What a great video. I didn't know most of those things and I'm obsessed with Hawaii. Thanks and I can't wait to go!
+Sharon Lippert Thanks Sharon! Glad I was able to pass on some new info!
Hawaii has become *much* more Japanese than even in the early 2000s when I was back home .... good thing as I'm learning a Japanese musical instrument, and trying to learn Japanese.
This is great information to know! I'll definitely have to check out Waikiki at some point!
You definitely will have to! :) Thanks! :)

15th thing to keep in mind...respect the locals and the land!!! Respecting the land is the most important when visiting Hawaiʻi.
My girlfriend and I are headed to Waikiki in October. We can't wait!
Have a great trip!
How much you spent overall???
Thanks!
+Anna Krajacic My pleasure. Thanks Anna!
Great video👍👍👍👍❤️💙💚
Thanks Hoa!
Wonderful facts! Thank you! I was there last summer and found out that if you have a Social Security card (over 65) you can go anywhere on the island for $1. I did it and it was great! You just show your card and pay the $1. Thank you again for the great video.
Hi Chris! I just wanted to let you know my Wife and I will be heading to Wakiki this March and we have watched your Waikiki videos over and over! We can't thank you enough for your fun and informative videos. Also, we will be staying in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort based on your overviews. Thank you! Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks Cody! I hope you enjoy Waikiki!
Glad to know before I travel alone in February, the bus was my concern to the Waikiki hotel from Hawaii air line.
Thank you
My pleasure Shanta!
nice video
They have a ABC store on the strip in Las Vegas. Across from New York Hotel.
They have ABC stores in nearly every block along the strip...FACT
thanks saving for my trip now
beautiful beach
Hi Chris! I'm travelling to Hawaii (waikiki) for the first time in September this year (2018) for two weeks vacay from Sydney Australia. I'm also a massive Hawaii five-0 fan.
I'm booked into the Ramada plaza in Waikiki, and am travelling via Hawaiian Airlines 🤙
Nice! I'm sure you'll have a great time!
Ive been there, hawaii is amazing
It sure is amazing!
Really good tip: DON'T ARGUE OR FIGHT IN STORES LIKE HOW YOU DO IT IN CHINA OR MEXICO because the people will simply just state, "Alright but it's still 20 bucks though" and you will make no progress at all.

Loving your vids bro!
+OkinInc Thanks OkinInc! Thanks for subscribing.. welcome to the channel!
Hello Ha thank you for the video
Hi Muriel! Thank you!
thank you:) too cute :)
I've heard locals say that ABC stands for Around every Block and Corner Stores, lol I would go so far as to add one more language...pidgin!! 😄
I like that! Around every Block and Corner! And yes.. Pidgin indeed! :)
Funny how the "ABC store" is also known as the liquor store in the Carolinas and Virginia.
Chris ABC Store=Alcohol Beverage Control
I've been to Waikiki and although there were alot of people on the beach, it never felt crowded.
Thanks! Headed there in 2 weeks for a wedding. Best man here!
Awesome!
good job
Thanks Chythra!
Great video and awesome tips, but as I'm going to Waikiki in a few days, what I really want (NEED), is a shirt like yours.
Thanks Vlad!
I like your shirt.
Thanks Joe!
Also being from Hawaii, DONT BUY STUFF IN ABC STORES. They are way too expensive and it’s always best to take an uber out to a local foodland or even Walmart near ala Moana mall.
Mahalo for the informative video. For shopping you forgot to mention Ala Moana shopping center.
Thanks Paul!
really helpful
+yosh Sea Thanks Yosh! :)
Yo
yosh Sea yo
Just came back from Hawaii and stayed at the Ohana Hotel. Had awesome time but here’s a tip, be prepared to dig into your wallets cause food is expensive. I never thought I’d say this but it was good to see McDonalds on the strip cause I saved a lot of money grabbing a couple of chicken sandwiches lol but besides that enjoy cause I did! 🤙🏾
nice introduction, not exhaustive. but the sun is brutal even in winter so early and late on the beach is great advice. so many people overdo it the first day and spend the rest of their trips in the room
So true! People underestimate the sun! I'm from San Diego... which has quite a bit of sun too!
i really want to go to Oahu it is so pretty
Great video buddy..
I’ll be there in two weeks for my 8th visit!
Thanks for sharing
Awesome. Thanks Jerome. Have a great trip!
Yellow Productions thanks Chris really looking forward to it...
Is the _This Week_ brochure a good source of coupons? Thanks!
Runner at 6:01 THICKER THAN A BOWL OF OATMEAL.
I was looking for somebody with this comment ... lol
Sexy girl
Wow beach in Hawaii.
go further down towards diamond head to the Queens beach area a lot less crowded for sure
+Richard Sundown Good tip! Thanks!
it's cheaper in the Islands for the bus than Calgary Alberta, here it's $3.30
I can't wait to be in Waikiki my wife and I will be there in January I will have so much fun
Have fun Steven!
how was ur trip!?
in jan,
@@optionprinting826 it awesome thanks loved it til I was robbed at Walmart doing some shopping on the second last day my backpack was stolen from a combination locker it was locked. The staff were useless to help
@@stevenweiler1379 thank u so much for replaying back. Sorry to hear that, thats crazy n upsetting. Was it a known resort hotel? Ill make sure to not book there.
Favorite hike? i deff wanna hit up mauanawaili falls, makapuu beach, waimka m the western pillbox hike
@@optionprinting826 no worries I was robbed a place where you shop. We stayed the Ambassador. That was my one regret not doing any of the falls.
Positive dude 👌👍😊
Thanks Chris!
@@YellowProductions Thx You too..im flying in march next year on Oahu so your Channel helped me to know many things Greetings
Bring more yellow shirts next time, it's your thing. We love your vids

+Yegana Baha Thanks Yegana :)
makaha beach park on the leeward side is a sweet beach
I’m from Hawaii and even I watch your videos for tips
Right on Drexel!
Hi Chris I am coming Waikiki for Christmas 🤶🏻
Nice!
Dont forget the Punch Bowl , its free , some of the best views and its a Military cemetary with lots of historical information .
I lived on my sailboat in the Alli Wai harbor for six months, the maximum. Directly across from a great shopping center. On Oahu they’re is great shooting range, loaded with Japanese tourists, I would take my M-1 Garand to show how accurate they are. I fired expert in the Army, on stationary targets I can put rounds practically though the same hole at a 100 yards. The Japanese would come to me saying “very accurate, very accurate!”
Great
Thanks Love Loveyy!
In Waikiki right now!
Hyatt place! 2 blocks away from the beach
+Anson And Ashley Vlogs Nice. How is the Hyatt Place? I haven't stayed there yet.
Yellow Productions free breakfast valet parking is pretty expensive 20 floors nice view from higher floors and the big rooms are high up
+Anson And Ashley Vlogs Cool. Sounds like you'd stay there again?
Yellow Productions definitely 9/10
Also there the zoo and the aquarium in waikiki. check those out.
🌴🍍Me and my husband was just there a Month ago Beautiful🌴🍍
Aloha!
Great video, thanks, lovely presentation...do Japanese phones work in Hawaii?
Thanks Samo.. Regarding the phones, I would check with your cell phone carrier if they provide roaming in Hawaii. I know US phones work in Japan. So I would think so
Thanks, yes a good tip, lovely, i might check some forums on this...food videos grrrreat...use drone to make your videos even better wink wink...hehe
Lol..every VISITOR should watch this before coming to honolulu..
+honozoolu ting Thanks Honozoolu ting!
Thank you! Off to Hawaii soon and this is very helpful! Do you think I still need to change some of my yen to dollars just to be safe?
Assuming you've got an ATM Card, I think you pull some dollars out of an ATM.
Thank you for your reply! Your videos are amazing! Keep up the good work sir!
Stephanie Cayton I would change some of your yen into dollars. The fee for the atm might be a little crazy. Plus you can't buy anything with yen in Hawaii.
Hey Chris! What on beach resort would you recommend to visit in Hawaii?
HI Miguel.. in Maui I really like the Andaz. On Oahu I really like the Four Seasons in Ko Olina. In Kauai I like the Hyatt.
Is Aston at the banyon Waikiki a good hotel
Your comment outlining the fact that Waikiki is not in Japan is totally valid. Example: My Japanese sister in law, born and raised in Osaka, once told me she had never been to the United States. Then very shortly after that comment, she proceeded to tell me about her trip to Hawaii where she stayed in Waikiki. She was not joking in the slightest! She honestly visited Waikiki and came away with the notion that it is not part of 'Merica!
Hah!
The last time we stayed 7 days and we shopped the ABC Store 30 times I saved all my receipts because after so many receipts they give you a free bag or free coffee cup . And the gentleman is right they have everything you would need well not everything but as close as it gets . They have shirts /shoes / hat/ beach gear / smokes / booze / foods / meds / toys and the list goes on and on . And the second best one stop shopping is Walgreens inland it's 3 floors ! And they have the same stuff plus more .
30 times in 7 days! That's impressive! :)
Cool video you sound like a nice man, I go to Waikiki in February is that a nice month to go ?
Winks
Lisa
I think every month is a nice month to go to Waikiki... there's not really a bad time to go there!
I went for the 4th of July, was there for a week it was a bit crowded but amazing.
You know how some places are overrated when you actually get there? Hawaii was not one of those places. Such natural beauty, and the locals are not mean as people in the mainland have made them out to be.
+HakunaMatata I agree. Hawaii is worth the high ratings!
On Kauai you will find a lot of mean people. Both local/non local. I'm local, and get treated mean from both sides.
I've spent alot of time outside of Waikiki. Native Hawaiians are so nice. Definitely see that island love.
Sometimes an overbuilt area loses it's uniqueness, but I still can see Hawaii as the paradise it is described to be.
Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty.
That's because it's in the same moku as Manoa Valley, which is where royalty lived.
I was at an ABC store every day. Mainly for chocolate covered macadamia nuts
Those are pretty good!
Great information is this the same this year??
Hey just a quick question, is Hawaii in Japan? Not quite sure if you covered that
I don't find waikiki to be terribly crowded. There's always a place on the beach and resaraunts always have room for you.
I also don't find it to be humid. Certainly nothing like Florida or Texas.
Fun facts that are pretty obvious
Do u have an updated video of Oahu since covid? Like really current?
ruclips.net/video/SVXALZilLdk/видео.html
I'm born and raised on Oahu and the best beaches are North Shore, Waikiki isnt that great. Shopping only id say. Stay at Four Seasons in KoOlina!
I love Ko Olina! Good tip :)
ABC stores are awesome and CHEAP! Leonard's is a must but we didn't like the Rainbow Drive In at all
Sir I’m a JCB card holder and I want to ask if can we ride the trolley from airport to Waikiki hotel?
Waikiki trolley doesn't run to the airport. I'd suggest taking a taxi from the airport to Waikiki
I believe the Hilton now offers free fireworks on both Tuesday and Friday. They have been doing this new Tuesday schedule for a year and a half or so.
+Jakes_Tornado Neat! Thanks for the tip on Tuesday fireworks too!
