@ScannerDanner - I have learned so much from your videos! Thank you for the years of learning!
@DiagnoseDan - I just found your channel and this is my first video I have seen. Great content, looking forward to learning from you as well! Subscribed!
@@NGAAutoTV Thanks for Subscribing!😉
You found a great channel with Dan that's for sure! And thank you too!
@scannerdanner you are just amazing man! Thank you for enlighting us!
Dealership mechanic pulled the code, and when it mentioned "rich", he thought the customer was going to make him rich. $$$
Ha ha 🤣🤣🤣
That's a good one 👌
Mechanic get rich working in a stealership? You're joking right?
Hahahaha😂😂😂
This guy is the best I have ever watched in diagnoses. Absolutely first class.
Thanks Sean👍
The only thing that I have learned lately is that " the more that I learn , the less that I know "
And that right there is the answer to being a great mechanic.
What we know is not the problem. The problem is what we know that isn't so.
have you heard of exponential growth? knowledge is pretty much the same, when you now very little you think you know everything, but when you start to learn more and more then you start to see how exponentially vast the universe actually is compared to your previous perspective, and then you realize how puny your knowledge is compared to this vast universe.
Yup! Learning is fun when it’s something you are interested in isn’t it?
Me too
One in million automotive technicians, God bless you. You just save that customer from an untalented volkswagen dealer
Thanks👍😉
Lol... the bloopers! Nice touch.
No dealerships were hurt in this video but.... their feelings probably were. 😂😂😉
The Name of the Dealership is not mentioned but somehow i've got a feeling they are going to see this video😉 But i hope they turn this into something positive!
@@Diagnosedan I hope so too. Definitely a ton of good info here!
I was disappointed to read that no dealerships were hurt in the making of this video - because many should be.
As someone who has worked at dealerships, the system creates issues where most things are guessed at and then the tech moves onto the next job. Under warranty, guessing at a part replacement will typically pay better than diagnosis. This type of repair then gets translated to customer pay jobs. This attitude results in poor customer service, but is ultimately what keeps the money rolling in. The customer reaction at the German luxury dealers I have been at is typically the same (under warranty or customer pay), the customer gets frustrated and eventually trades the car in for the next model.... the ‘problem car’ is sent to auction.... and becomes some else’s problem!
@@Diagnosedan I loved the no dealerships were hurt line just like they do in the movies where animals appear to die they say no animals were hurt. I thought Dan could be a director some day! That was so cool!
"My diagnostic report is going to say FIXED!" hahaha love it, Dan! Cool diag!
Thanks Ivan😉👍
Both of you guys are awesome. I learned a lot from ya'll and I'm pretty badass now coz of it. Reading or taking tests don't teach me well but watching real world diag helps me a ton
I can’t count how many times the dealerships have misdiagnosed problems with my cars and usually high dollar items. This is why I now wrench my own cars. Thank you to people like Dan and other you tubers to keep my Bmw and VW healthy.
Diagnose Dan is the best tech on the internet
🤣🤣😘
Absolutely love this guy's thought process. Logical. Methodical. We need more of that in all our lives.
The level of complexity on the problems you encounter is unbelievable. The fact that you manage to solve them is amazing. Keep up the good work and now I know where to go if I have a gremlin.
And why making it look EASY , simply amazing. 💪
Hi Dan, I watched all your diagnosis vedio s but in this lesson could not understand the relation between fuel and oil level and it's effect on fuel trim, plz explain.if I am not wrong.
Great diag. I thought at first it was a injector stuck open, then i thought it might be a saturated canister or fuel pressure to high. i would have never guessed the high pressure fuel pump. Now i learned something. Thank You.
Thats great Christian👍
With any luck, the tech is watching this and a little humility and a new desire to learn would come into play.
That's what i hope for!
I love the positive attitude and the way tou tackle the problem.
Great diagnostics there Dan,I can’t understand how the dealer could even think that it’s a turbo problem
Agreed!😊
Strangely 50 years ago I would have gone straight to the fuel pump if there was fuel in the oil with a mechanical pump.
I would wonder if the catalytic converter may have been damaged, excellent diagnostic path though, well done, subbed.
Probably not, the exhaust analyser looked reasonable.
About 50 years ago, I worked on an old Vauxhall that had leaked fuel into the oil. It actually ignited in the end; blew a big jagged hole in the oil-pan!
We all have those tongue-tied moments. Great diagnosis and lessons to be learned.
😂😂
2 minutes in the video and I'm laughing my ass off. That report was funny. I'll change parts till maybe I find it
🤣🤣👍
That's how I fix my vehicles... maybe I should get a job at a dealership!
@@thelasttimeitried don't you just change the plates on to another car!

Every technician have there own skill to diagnose by the fault codes, but I think the real hero is one who solves the problem. Customer only need is to get the problem removed. Nice video.
Thank you very much
Diagnosedan is a Genius! He has extraordinary creative/diagnostic ability. If He were a Medical Doctor- He would win a Nobel prize for His brilliance.
Ha ha🤣🤣👍
thus far the best diagnostic video I have seen showing logical steps to follow and showing how to check that the information you have is correct (Y)
Thanks💪
Great job! You saved that person from a huge nightmare!
Yes that could have ended worse😬
I have this same problem already and was the same hi pressure fuel pump was the problem...👍
Nice job never in 50 years have I seen a leaky pump leaking into the oil that way thanks
You have never seen it all John😉
Takes a big man to post bloopers! Much respect Dan!👍 Great Diagnostic as usual!
That's who i am so why not show it!
That was a nice tongue twister. 👅 😂
You are good very good. That's the service a dealer should be providing. They are the "experts".
Thanks Dan
Thanks!👍
Your video is the best, nice clear footage combined with nice clearly spoken narration, very easy to follow and enjoyable to watch. I like your clean and tidy workshop too. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!
The biggest question is, where do the dealerships get such amazing mechanical wizards who seem to have as much combined knowledge as a corn flake? Great diagnostic and fix, I bet the lady was happy.
Yes she was very happy!😊
You the man Dan, dealers should have their mechanics take a course from you...great job...
Thanks👍
As a dealer tech trying to break the norm myself, I would gladly take that course. There’s a lot of good dealer guys, but there’s way more bad ones, and I don’t ever want to be one of the bad ones
Nice to se you never give up on fixes for cars as well as your videos doing a great job really enjoying watching and learning
Thank you Geoff!
I guess the only dislike it's from the dealership who watched the video 😄
Great job Dan! I've learned a lot from your videos.
Ha ha ha i see it now! Yes must be them🤣🤣🤣

Dan has the best diagnosis skill I have seen so far !
Thanks for sharing Dan. Most if dealership around the world doesn't diagnose problems properly (time/no good diagnosticians). They just throw parts n see if it fix.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice vid dan. It has all the juices and not boring. Not too long and not too short. Always looking forward to your vids.
Thank you!
I've found your channel recently and I'm so grateful not only for sharing incredible knowledge, but also for putting your greatest effort into making it easy to understand.
Where I live, Venezuela. scopes are a very rare thing to see and I've always felt intimidated by them, but thanks to your channel, I've lost that fear and I believe that bit by bit I'll be able to improve my diagnostics.
Thank you so much for your videos Diagnose Dan, you've opened my mind to new possibilities. I hope that someday I'll be able to make diagnostics as good as yours! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words Paolo, good luck👍
Love the concise way you explain details without a load of flim flam. It would taken me a while to think about the HPFP being the cause, I was thinking of going down the road of scoping the injectors next. and maybe the MAF. DOH.
There are many roads to take as long it brings you to the right destination😊
Dan, you are the best ! We need more mechanics like you
Another brilliant video. Methodical diagnosis rather than parts darts 🎯
Parts dart🤣🤣
Dan great method of teaching and the way you looking for clue and put them together as solid evidence is amazing, I must say that I have attended a one day course of automotive event and I have gain more knowledge of your video then that one day course. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!👍👍
This is years of experience and fine understanding of automobiles. Nice work Dan.
good call big Dan, I was thinking injector issue to start off and initial fuel smell in oil.
How a tech could come up with needing a turbo beyond me :-)
Top job and smooth thoughtful and direct diagnosis and fix.
Dan you the MAN 👍👍
Thanks!
On turbo diesel engines, if the seal in the turbo axis leaks, the oil that cools and lubricates the turbo axis goes into the intake. this can cause an engine runaway condition.
On a petrol engine? nah, it would be OIL inside a GAS/PETROL engine... but I guess if not too much it could still cause a rich condition...
DD fixed it again. My name is Conrad. I am pretty new in this industry and this man's chanel has become my favorite TV Show sinse the day I watched his first video. a real professional. I really admire him.
Where are you from Conrad?
@@Diagnosedan I am from Cameroon. Living in Canada. Very glad I came across your chanel.
Ah parts darts 🎯don’t you just love that game 😉
Nice one again Dan & thank you for saying not all dealerships technicians are bad.
I’ve been a 30years main dealer tech & seen it all good & bad but parts darts is not a game I participate in.
This sort thing happens at independents & back street garages too, I regularly have to fix misdiagnosed faults from these establishments.
It all comes down to education & learning new skills & refreshing those skills regularly,
And most importantly having great teachers like Dan the man (diagnose Dan) to teach you.
Keep up the great work,
All the best,
Madds
Your right I'm really impressed with the skills of some Dealer techs i know. That's why i mentioned that training is important whereever you work!

Thank you dan man 😉
Everyone makes mistakes in diagnosis! It doesn't matter if you are a doctor or an auto tech, we WILL make a mistake and sometimes a foolish mistake. Perhaps this was a very young tech just starting out or whatever, my point being that unless you know the backstory, you have to do like Dan does and simply diagnose and correct the problem without shitting on the other guys work because one day, my fellow tech and non-tech commenters, you will be on the other end of this! As a licensed tech for more than 40 years, I speak from experience. Very well presented and logically diagnosed, Dan, as usual!! I always respect and enjoy your professionalism!
Wow Dan- you restored perfect Stochiometry. Good job once again!
Thanks David!💪
No substitute for good training. Well done Dan.
What the general public doesn't realize is the dealerships have no different or better selection of mechanics than the independent shops do.
Exactly! They do have all the tools/information and support available 🤔
@@Diagnosedan You can teach a monkey a trick, but not to think.....the hardest part is a good diagnose, not only knowing how a engine or machine works, but more important what is happening, and WHAT could be the course....btw have you had ever a car you couldn't find the problem?
You are the man! You saved that Customer (time and money), that Technician (poor diagnosis skills) and that Advisor (a lack of care, he just echoed what his Tech said, with ZERO quality control) and their Dealership (liability and credibility).
Thanks James
Fantastic demonstration Dan!!!!! I enjoyed every second!!! Loved the bloopers in the end 😆👍👍

Georgie Mac” I have the crankcrase breather blocked up with a lubber grove” 😂😂 sounds like me every day 😎😂😂
Without being too pedantic, it's "Off" the scale.
An aircraft takes off of the ground, you get off of a chair.
You have confidence in finding the real fault & intelligence of course, that is the right way of working.
God bless you.
Most 'Mechatroniker' are clueless who just swap parts and hope it helps.

DiagnoseDan, I don´t know how I got to see one of your Videos a couple of days ago. Since then every time I have time, I´m watching your videos. Your level of teaching is what drive me to want to lern more and more on how to Diagnose and Fix cars. Your Approche for troubleshooting is outstanding. I appreciate all your time and effort on and off camara to really teach how to Diagnose and fix cars. Regarding this issue with the dealership, just for info I´m not a car mechanic, from my point of view, I suspect that the dealer knew the main cause for the motor always running rich, but why only charge the customer for one HP Diesel Pump plus Labor, if they can grab even more deeper in the customers pocket… how in the hell are all those useless well dressed personal in the office get payed… the money must come from somewhere… As I already lernend on one of your videos, "always take a second opinion"
Thanks for the great comment!
Hilarious 😂🤣. One of the best technicians out there

Excellent one will say...no hurts Junnior
Excellent video , the vw dealership must come for further education or anytime they find themselfs the repair difficulties , they can come to you because in actuai fact this was engineering diagnostics ,well done DD
Thank you! I hope something positive comes out of this!
I like this guy!
Thanks Jason😊
You really work professionally
Thank you!
I worked for a Ferrari dealership for 10 years, 1988-1998, the mechanics there were flat rate, highly trained and dam good at their job.
I purchased a 2018 Jeep JLUR and every time I take it to a dealership for a problem I end up knowing more than their mechanics!
They wanted to replace the radio and instrument cluster when it was a simple software update problem. I had to bring them the update notice off of a forum to get them to do the update. They are completely unaware of the capabilities or function of this vehicle. They had three different mechanics and their shop supervisor look at my tailgate and tell me I needed a different type of reinforcement bracket.
I ended up doing the adjustment myself, problem fixed. My opinion is this is just a job for them, they really don’t care to learn about their product.
Yes that's part of the problem, for some people it's nothing more than a Job!
James Harvey I have 43 years as a Dealer Master Technician. My boss doesn’t get me at all. The techs that don’t care sell more parts per hour and more hours per Month. The customer is not the priority anymore. We do have some great techs but sadly many that see it as just a job.
I appreciate your concern for not ripping the dealership for a faulty diagnosis, but as a consumer, I don't pay for stupid and there is absolutely no reason something this basic should have been misdiagnosed and charged for. With that said, I really enjoy your videos and how through you are in making your diagnosis. Keep up the good work, people like you are a very rare commodity!
Great video my friend excellent step by step diagnosis, I initially thought it was a stuck open injector like the one in James dillions video but your the man!!! That ending very funny cheers sandy
Thanks for watching Sandy! Now i must watch James his video!
@@Diagnosedan ruclips.net/video/RENPchQldUY/видео.html
I was going with the same thought Sandy but then noted no miss on this one.
Another Excellent video. I am amazed that dealerships would use untrained technicians to diagnose customers cars, especially for the rates they charge.
Thank you for this case study my friend. I didn’t know that high pressure fuel pump can develop internal leak. Awesome info.👍👍
Yes and i've learned it happens quite often!
Quite common on GM direct injection engines.
DiagnoseDan friend I have question for you. Does internal leak in fuel pump affect performance of pump itself? Meaning can pump achieve peak pressure under load conditions? And could you use downstream oxygen sensor to see fuel mixture instead of using gas analyzer? I hope these questions make sense. Thank you sir.
@@kyhomegarage3430 i kept the old pump and i still need to find if it's leaking internaly from the high or low side. If it's a smal leak on the low side the low pressure fuel pump could have enough capacity to make up for the loss. You could use the O2 sensors instead of the gasanalyser, but i would prefer the upstream.
DiagnoseDan Thank you friend. You are awesome. 👍👍
You are so good in explaining the whole process. The way you explain, anybody even young children can understand completely. The way you explain it, you could be a very great presenter in any subject , doesn't have to be in mechanical topic.
Greed video mate....lol.....bloopers are original......lol. You just got yourself a sub. Great diagnosis. Looking at one of those scan tools, the 808bt.....o am no mechanic, but would like to do some of these kind of work myself and save......bad enough dealerships charge so much for the parts. So dammed hard to find good, and more importantly , honest mechanics these days.
