  • This weekend I experimented with chemically sharpening some of my very dull old files.
Most of my files are second hand, old American made quality that has dulled over the years of use and abuse. I acid etched them to deepen the groves and try and get some more cutting out of them. Seems to have worked well.
Please note, I'm no chemist, I'm also no safety expert. Try it at your own risk.
Additionally, I certainly didn't invent this method... Check out Metal Tips and Tricks video on the process too: • How to Sharpen Metal F...
    Tools used:
    Plastic Containers
    Water
    Muiratic Acid
    Face Sheild
    Chemical Gloves
    Baking Soda
    Hand Files
    File Card
This was all shot on a Canon 5dmkIII with a 100mm 2.8 macro and 40mm 2.8. Audio was done with a Voice Technologies VT500 Lav mic and a Zoom H1. It was poorly lit with my shop lights. (I'm working on fixing that.)
I'm not sponsored by anyone, the tools I use are just the tools I've collected over the years.
Be safe, use your brain. Its the weekend, get out of the office and build!
