Two videos in one day? Look at us getting blessed! 😂🎉
The magic sounds a lot like the Lockwood and Co series by Jonathan Stroud, which is such an underrated series in my opinion.
I was thinking along those lines too, specially with the ghost issue she mentioned. I've been (kinda) looking for a replacement since I couldn't accept George's lack of development and had to give up the series (3 books as the fat, gross, useless, clumsy character? come on...)
@@Liriodelagua I don't want to spoil anything, but I think you should finish the series out if that's your main issue. None of the characters' arcs are finished until the last book. Heck, Lucy actively regresses in her arc during book 3, and remember that the series is told in her perspective, so her view of the other characters can't grow until she grows. (There are lots of thematic elements about how people are perceived that run throughout the series as well imo.)
Regardless of whether you decide to continue, I wish you luck in finding a series that works for you.
I also loved this one! It was so unexpected. The world building was so interesting with great adventure. I'm definitely interested in picking up the Crown of Feathers series now.
My teen loved this one and is gifting it to her best friend for her bday next weekend.
I love these deep-dive reviews. You definitely made me want to pick this one up. Thank you!! ❤️
Thank you for recommending this book! I just finished it, and I’m so excited for the next.
Yes! 100% agree with everything you said here. I had been worried at the beginning cause of that youthful tone you mentioned but the world, magic and characters really opened up and it was just such a fun ride.
I wasn't thinking I'd like this one, but halfway through, you convinced me to add it to my TBR. Also, I love hearing detailed reviews of specific books, so thank you!
Loved this book as well! Can’t wait until the next book ❤
Yes!! I loved this one! So funny story, when I got this book I was so absolutely sure you recommended it that I tried (without success) to find the (imagined) video where I heard you talk about how good it was. I never found the video (obviously) but I was so so sure you recommended it that I read it immediately and LOVED it. I have found a lot of favorites through you so I am beyond excited my 'psychic powers' worked and you actually enjoyed this one too! Have a lovely day 🌻🌟
I thought for one moment you were gonna talk about "Seven blades in black" by Sam Sykes because I just finished it and it fits the title of the video perfectly. :)
Sounds so interesting! Going to buy it :) love your reviews :)
Super excited to get to this book. It is one of my most anticipated YA Fantasy this year.
This sounds very similar to Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson--a book which I highly recommend! It's my favorite book of 2023 so far. Thank you for the wonderful video. ☺
I have an earc of this I still need to get to! Now I’m excited 👀
Read this book this month, absolutely loved it, I totally agree with you, it was a fun read
Ive been waiting to see a review of this book. I loved it. I wanted to read it really fast because I loved it but also wanted to take my time so it lasted longer. I loved the nice steady pace and the world building was an instant hit with me. Fun book.
Thanks for the review. I just purchased it for the Kindle.
Oh man I just randomly discovered this book, I'm so pumped to read it now
Jus finished it n your review is spot on. I think both Wren n Julian had flaws initially but got better n better as the book went on. Loved it n can't wait for the sequel!
I am a pretty new viewer so I am not sure if you have ever read "The House Witch" by Delemhach. It's a fantasy with some romance sprinkled in (more so in book 2 & 3) and the action picks up by Book 3. Book 2 was a little clunky for me but overall it was a comfort read and still is because I get so immersed in the story. I thought I would share because I also like to have my characters be fully fleshed out throughout the book but I also like a bit of action and for it to not drag on forever.
I still have yet to read Bonesmith- I'm hoping to get to it soon. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Same. I don't turn to fantasy for the politics or action typically but for the characters
How you described Wren made me think of Spensa in Skyward. Would that be a fair comparison?
i've only seen a protagonist kind of like that in the locked tomb series by tamsyn muir so this sounds right up my alley. thank you!
This book is on my October tbr
I loved this book, it was a lot of fun and the world building and magic system was so cool and interesting!
i'm a huge fan of nick pau preto and this did not disappoint!!! one of my favourite reads of the year for suree
That was exactly how I felt about this book. In the beginning I was cringing a bit, because it felt so tropy, but then it just took off for me. I gave it a 4.5, if Preto had just found a way to make the beginning less cliché and cookie cutter YA "betrayal, everything is unfair" and had her fail in a more unique way, this one would have been a no question asked 5 stars.
honestly I love a hot-headed main character, especially if that gets in their way and has real consequences for them. as a stubborn girlie, I like to see myself represented haha
Sounds like a good book to break up some of the heavier reads 😊
I like Wren already. Thank you.
My face at the end of this book when I realized it was a part of a series… I literally stopped delivering the mail to be like, wait, what?? *cue furious googling* There is no current release date for follow-up novels. Good good. Great. 😂
I will say that I found the beginning of the book to be fairly slow. There was quite a bit of info dumping in places, but unlike other novels that do this, I found the information to be necessary to the plot of book one and it would have been a struggle to get that information woven into the story in a natural way without adding additional scenes that stretched out the pacing even further.
I also found that once we were at the outpost, the story did pick up, because the world building became more natural and while the action seemed to slow, this was easier for me to read.
I loved this too because… everything you said. It also happens to be really pretty, which never hurts!
Just picked this up. I gotta say, the cover isn't super appealing to me tho. I don't see many copies out at book sellers either.
Update… I love this book. Couldn’t put it down. ❤
I saw this was compared to Gideon the Ninth. When you said Wren is super cocky, I can’t help but think of Gideon Nav. And of course the cover screams Gideon the Ninth. I know you started Gideon at one point. Any idea if it’s similar?
I’m wasn’t much of a reader but I love elden ring lore. I just thank you for getting me interested and for giving great recommendations!!
Have you watched the TarnishedArchaeologist's lore channel? He's fantastic and leaves Vaati in the dust.
@@ladyfox6705 nah but I’ll give a listen
Ell... did you mean to post two videos to the same channel? Not complaining if you're giving us more content but I know this isnt your usual style 😅
as far as i remember gideon the ninth is the comp title for this. have you read it? how would you say does it compare?
Algo
How much like Gideon the Ninth is this?
I was wondering this too
I thought I'd like this but actually I found quite boring. I didn't feel like I was reading anything I hadn't already read somewhere else. Also it was very descriptive and in my personal opinion I felt like the main character should have been a lesbian
you got me hype for a moment but then you mention YA. Not for me
Same. Don't mind a bit of YA, but most of it is too immature for me.
