Check out Sister Gertrude Morgan if you haven’t already. Ol skool tambourine , stomp , clap gospel like the old Geechie stuff but she’s from NewOrleans .
These women singing in beautiful acappella brings back so many memories of my childhood, worshipping with my mom, sisters & brothers, grandma, aunts and cousins in the 60's. Our church didn't have air conditioning either, and we fanned most of the service to relieve ourselves of the hot air, as we sweated and sang our hearts out. I appreciate this so much now, knowing the true meaning of these songs. Thank you for preserving this video.
BABY all you hear is voices voices voices and foot patting yes GOD come to the MS Delta and I could take you to a few that are still like this and I LIVE.....
Take me back to Mississippi in grenada on the dirt road and the little church in the woods Jackson chapel missionary Baptist Church. Back then when you felt the holy ghost you really felt the holy ghost
Beautiful. This is when the Black Church use to be full every sunday, and the spirit of God would move so strongly throughout the service. What has happened to our church?
truly, this is an historical peace worth spreading around the world, thanks to the late Alan Lomax for this human, moving, marvelous, cultural experience I can have from my couch.
One a my favrit songs. I love it. Are they ever great or what. I pray God kin change my heart cus I been so bitter cus im homeless. It not my falt. The building got sold an rent got rased an i had to move. So now i stay with my friend. I just move today work all day move my things so i hope i feel better.
I remember the deaconess in their white dresses. They were the backbone of the church. I remember the fans and fanning. The rhythmic tapping of the feet. The songs filled your soul. During this precious time in church all was well within, no matter how tumultuous life might have been on the outside.
Are these professional singers or local ladies? Very moving clip. I came close to crying seeing that one lady shedding some tears with those other women standing around her fanning some cool air in her face. Such a simple and powerful message too!
I just came across this song and reading the messages I pray that you have returned to church Trust The Lord where you need to be planted I don't know the reason you left the church but don't allow nothing and Noone to keep you from church God wants his children to fellowship together and pray sing songs of worship praises HALLELUJAH love one another. Have blessed life in Jesus Name
Church, church! I'm watching and listings. Tears in my eyes, thinking about the way we use to have church. I just can see some of the older members singing and not worrying about nothing. That's is truly a blessing for posting. Thank You, Thank You.
Can you please upload more videos from the St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Canton? Also listened to "Thank you Jesus" and the woman who leads both songs has such a powerful voice and watching these videos is truly a visceral experience.
Nowhere does it mention the state this was filmed in. Does anyone know? Just curious...reminds me of my Virginia roots when visiting my grandmother back in the day! Love it...
So beautiful and so soulful. I've looked at the lyrics for this song and these are the most powerful lyrics that are around. When I try to transcribe the lyrics I have difficulty in three places. Does anyone know where these lyrics are written? If not can you tell me the lyrics that I cannot decipher in three places: "............... to sound so sweet, I guess my Jesus was talking to me." And "Oh I went in the valley where Jesus prayed, Oh I saw that.................. and I stayed all day." And lastly, "You can talk about me as much as you please, Oh the lord can talk ............... " Thanks for any help you can provide.
"the voice I heard it sound so sweet. Just like Jesus was talking to me" "I went in the valley one day to pray. My soul got happy and I stayed all day" "You can talk about me just as much as you please. The more you talk, the more I'm bending my knees"
This is walking in 2024 with me...

This kind of music screams freedom and justice
I would trade all the Cathedrals of Europe for the beauty of this Church.
I'd love to hear them do this inside of one of those awesome cathedrals.
@@pissant959 no cathedral isnt the right this church is perfect
@@nonenone4078 it is. Think about it. Surrounded by the beauty & this hymn being able to ring out & sound even more angelic than it does already.

Churches started caring more about profit and being “cool” rather than genuine praise and worship
No more Helens and Berthas. Now it’s Shaqwitas and Bonkishas. Huge difference!

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord
This has a deeper meaning to it . This music would not exist if not for our ancestors brought here from the coast of west Africa so long ago . Amazing
The power of our beautiful black voices. ❤️
This! In my mind, THIS is what the true Lord and Creator would want. A celebration. Not a mourning....If ya dig into that kinda thing.
