    It's interesting the contrast between Steve and others who visited the space. Mainly the relationship with Linus being so casual, but also the apparent attention to the detail and the whole "talking the same language" vibe I'm getting. Oh and the lack of music and aggressive editing makes it flow differently.
    I dunno. I love the vibe of this tour.

    Linus' business or businesses are really successful but I think what I respect about him most is that he reinvests all the money made. Be it something like this in the form of buying space so their production workflow is easier, or human costs like on their live show he said has all of his staff in a position where they all own their houses. My point being his businesses make money but he doesn't horde it. It's reinvested into the businesses or the people that power them. I have a ton of respect for that. This was so interesting! :)

    • @vebjsand
      @vebjsand 5 лет назад +29

      Agreed. The world needs more of that. There's enough billionaires taking 95+ percent of the profits for themselfs year after year after year. Take a few percent and give back to the people making it possible and a huge chunk into reinvesting and expanding, then a chunk for safety (so people can keep their jobs for a solid amount of time if the business isn't making profits) etc. After a few years of success, you're very entitled to harvest the benefits for yourself as an owner and/or investor to a larger degree, provided the business still stays profitable and the workers get a reasonable share of the profits (we're talking percentages without decimals ofcourse). I, and society in general, dislike people who just wants to grab as much money as possible doing whatever gives the most profit and then leave it behind once they've reached their income goal, without any pride in what they've created.

There's nothing better for integrity and legitimacy of your reviews than non-tech sponsors, because obviously, every time your sponsored by a company from the same industry you make videos about, you automatically enter a moral conflict that's damaging your believability, no matter how subtle.
    I'm also very glad Linus takes sponsoring so seriously, that despite the "average consumer" not caring at all, he still is careful about how he makes sponsored content, as to not risk his integrity. It's great to hear that.

    Linus and his team get a lot of shit, but he really is a leader in the space. And he's trying (through floatplane) to give not only his staff a plan b but also other creators if RUclips goes too much further to shit. He seems to be a pretty damn smart guy who has surrounded his self with other smart people. Whether you think he's a sellout or not I think he's done very well and is continuing to further their craft, and the fact that he's honest and trying to make ethical moves when not being forced to also speaks for itself. The state of "capitalism" these days employs basically no consumer protections. As long as you're making as much money as you can, who cares how you do it (at least that's how I see it). So them making an ethical "line in the sand" to me speaks highly of his character.

    • @MikeMartin-ot9ic
      @MikeMartin-ot9ic 5 лет назад +38

      With capitalism, consumers will often, and given enough time always, pick up on bullshit. That line in the sand is important, because it's also the best way to do business for the long term. Did Linus say LMG is spending around 250k CAD on LTX? Holey sheet that puts it into perspective just how big its become in just a few years, and just how much income they must make to support such a massive venture.
    This was a great video btw, everyone was relaxed and enjoying each others company, and it was extremely interesting to take a peek behind the scenes and see a little bit more of just how much work (and money) goes into making LMG the powerhouse of the tech world that it is.

      I think that's commendable.

    • @kyoko703
      @kyoko703 5 лет назад +8

      The original LTX was for the fans of LMG. As it evolved, it is more about the community and to grow the community it is definitely more than just LMG and it's about the relationships you have within the space. That's why you find other creators wanting to come to be a part because they know this is what a Vidcon/E3/CES should be when you have it all rolled up into one. I suspect they will do very well this year and I can't wait to see what next year will be like. Eventually, I would not be surprised if manufacturers show up and do a product announcement at LTX. It only make sense if you know your fan base will be there, and the various content creators will be there, why wouldn't you announce a new product just to get in on the fun and to have a good PR?
      It's only natural.

While this wristband might ensure it'll be deleted in case of an emergency, there is no guarantee that nobody is making a copy as we speak. That's where today's sponsor comes in, Tunnelbear VPN. A VPN or "virtual private network" will take your Internet traffic and have it take a detour through their computers. They will then pretend it is their own traffic to anyone in the outside, allowing you to choose which country you are from. That way nobody can know that it is your Internet history and you will stay safe from any "black hat" hackers or government surveillance. @@caincha This kind of video is not exactly great for Linus' short attention span audience.
      It looks personal and handcrafted (and not machine-y) because it's not very produced, but it is also very long and boring.
      When you're making really short, effective and efficient videos targeted at a wide demographic that tends to have a short attention span, it's hard not to make it look overly produced. Linus managed to do it, though, by using self deprecating humor. Not doing that would result in his videos looking professional, sure, but it'd also make his videos look "less human", so it's a decent trade off.
      To sum it up, Linus making himself look dumb is by design. Without that design, his videos would lose a lot of charm.
