Can you imagine living your life to the point that you don’t buy a bike because you are worried about what people will think. It’s all of the fun and none of the worry of the bike slipping away beneath you. I’ve got a tricity and can’t wait to upgrade to a niken when I can.
Well done to Yamaha for making it!...I went to my local dealer to see the bike as I would like one and asked them about luggage and would GIVI be making a pannier rack!..well a week later Yamaha came oùt with the GT..so now I will be waiting till next year!.
While I was there the owner was buying one he couldn't get over the confidence it gives you on the road, I told him I was a winter biker and that's why I want one!.
How many of the people who slag it off have actually ridden It?
I dare say not many, if any at all.
I have a cb500x with Dunlop trailmax tyres. I know what a lack of grip feels like.
I'd love an extra wheel on a roundabout that is soaked and you can see the sheen of the diesel on the apex.
What's not to love.
I miss grip.
Roll on summer.
@@rockafella1690 I love the new one. Gutted that they never mentioned a new model when I bought mine 4 weeks earlier.
The new one fixes the things I don't like about mine. It has changed the horrid Brown orange dash, gear indicator added, decent size front wheel, more fork travel, louder exhaust.
I'd have loved to of bought the new one.
Most of the people who knock probably haven't ridden any bike I reckon knowing the internet.
Great vid, looking forward to seeing your story. This bike (especially in GT form) really interests me. I don't care what others think of me or it; the tech's cool!
i had a 500cc piaggio mp3 maxi scooter ....rode with my mate who has a 1000cc fireblade to an event and he simply couldn't keep up around corners sub 60mph.ok he flew past on the straights but he had to brake so hard for every bend i was back on him again...they handle superb and saved me on 1 occasion...with the paiggio it will oversteer if you push it beyond its limits ,,,ease off the throttle and the front comes back in.i suspect this bike is the same
Nice video Mr Milbank! You are one of the first to do a long term review. Thanks for giving us the first hand information on this unique machine. I’m not in the market for one but I’d love to ride one . Here is to Yamaha taking chances instead of doing the same old thing .
2024 Yamaha Niken GT, That's for Me!
Great series of films, these diaries, thank you. Really liking that Niken too......
Cant wait to try one. Looking forward to series.
Love it, tested it, would get one if I was in the market and had the money. Feels so Uber stable over all kinds of surfaces, real advantage!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series
Many Thanks for answering the filter question.
( Retractable mirrors like on some of the maxi mopeds could help with filtering)
Nice video and looking forward to seeing your experiences living with the Niken. What's the song used in the opening?
Hope there will good choice of 15 inch tyres for it 👌
Looking forward to trying out
I guess the tyres are designed differently so the fronts don't displace the water for the rear? 🤔
Would you get the same grip benefits if you put a wider tire on the front? Or maybe a different tyre design?
Looking forward to you guys reviewing the 2023 Niken GT when it's released.
Interested with the 2 wheel front technology on the Niken. But compared with GS 1000 or multristrada for lane splitting, which fare better without the panniers?
Don't give a s34t what others think I'd like to try one
Filtering next to kerbs would be my main concern
A few track days will tell a lot about this bike. Yamaha stock tiers are not so good some Michelin or Battlax would be better.
Will the front tiers last longer as there are two to support the load?
It's not for commuting, serious lack of storage compared to a big scooter. A fun touring bike with panniers & top box. These can be removed for track days or fun weekend day trips.
It would be nice to lock the front suspension while parking rather than using a side stand.
Perfect bike in the UK considering it's always raining & the roads are crap.
Looking forward to your track day.
Frank.
A 50/50 weight distribution with the rider on it? Lol thats pretty much impossible if you dont now up front how much the person weighs...
Great video tough!
Iv been riding normal motorcycles for years yet this one is making me wonder. :p
I like it but don't understand why is 50 kg heavyer than the Tracer 900? 50kg is a lot for o e small wheel, one fork and some linkage...
Everyone who's for is calling it a motorbike well, call me a nitpicker, I'm all for it and I would go as far as calling it a motorcycle but the "bi" in bike mean 2 so it must be a motortrike. In fact it's probably the first supertrike!
Trike is used to refer to something like the can am, which steers like a car with handlebars (push right, turn left). This is being called a 'bike' because it behaves like one, the 2 wheels up front are more like 1 wheel with more contact
I was on the verge of ordering one but bottled it at the last minute, went for the tracer 900 gt instead.🤷🏻♂️
Any extra grip you get is from the extra weight. Weights being equal, you wouldn't get any more grip by doubling the number of wheels since by doing this you are halving the weight on each of them and thus halving the grip. Since the Niken weighs 35% more than the MT-09 it's based on, it has 35% more grip.
Unfair questions against a tourer, the niken is a sport tourer that comfortable all day👍
Will be interested in seeing how you get on with it. I have a Piagigo MP3 and I'm not convinced the extra wheel helps in low grip corners. I think that is more to do with a lack of feedback than any true notion of grip levels, I just know I'm more comfortable on my Versys. I have also low sided it when the front slid out on a greasy road, so that doesn't help the old confidence
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ‘right’ but I could never bring myself to look back at it once I’ve parked up, it could be amazing to ride but with those looks the designers gave up and left for lunch.
Try to mount a camera on the radiator cover between the front wheels, will add another dimension to camera views :-)

Ryan Fortnine once wondered why Yamaha didn't give the Niken the extra 6 inches it would need to be legally a car.
But the thing is, as it stands, the Niken is half an inch narrower than a Goldwing. And one of the advantages of that, is precisely that unlike a trike wide enough to be legally a car, this one *can* filter, as well as do all the other things a motorcycle is supposed to.
True. Also, it didn't take much research to ask Yamaha why they say they didn't want it to be legally rideable on a car licence - apparently (and I'd agree) they didn't want anybody who'd not ridden a bike before to get straight onto what is basically an MT-09. That would be carnage. Cheers, John
Good design to suit specific purpose. Could have made it look more nicer tho. I would rather buy a can-am 3 wheeler trike.
Does that mean if you lean too far, it'll fall over?
Yes, just like any other motorcycle
What would make me buy one is if it had a shaft drive, a 1200cc engine and a 30 litre fuel tank. I would pay extra for these.
After 10k & 10 months it’s the “go to” bike in the garage.
Im getting one i think.. i test rode last sat
Brilliant! It's one of those bikes that you have to ride to understand. All the best, John
Not sure what the market is for something like this
Not to hate but I am a biker from South America and lane breaking is not common or used, but shoulder riding is..
Ironically, riding down the hard shoulder is illegal here!
Nice vid...so if it rides like any other MC, then what's the point. Is there that much more grip that will make the Rider ride harder in the twisties than the same rider on two wheels. Is the extra frip worth the extra weight, I just don't see the point of this MC other than its different..........Thanks for your review.
Totally see why toy bikers don't understand this which is why it probably will flop in this naked toy guise. Needs to be a full tourer to exploit the potential.
domster200 Read my mind.
Insurance to 3 wheeled bikes must drop to 1/3
Still got stabilizers
Each to there own.I don’t like the look of it but wouldn’t take the p**s if I seen someone on it..but definitely not for me
The bike would probably sell a lot better if it wasn't for that huge ugly front. There's no need for it to be that big and it makes the bike look a lot bigger than it is.
V
Front probably only slid because of the crap tyres Yamaha seem to fit from the factory...
Okay it IS a "motorcycle" ....BUT there are places that disallow motorbikes ....maybe they would let you in? ....You could say "You realize the word "bike" is from "bi" as TWO wheels ...now sir count my wheels....See? NOT a "bike" ...So you have to let me in" ....As an analogy? Like how for a while at least places that disallowed smoking cigarettes did allow vape version (....Of course fast forward a few years and they are banned right along with conventional cancer sticks. )
An MT-09 rider here... My only question for this is: Why? Is it really worth it to have this extra wheel? There is this saying that if you need to introduce a new product to challenge a category, it needs to be 10x better and 10x cheaper. I don't see this here...
It might be a good idea but , paying for extra tyres, extra fork seals and factor in how ugly it is its a no from me , for the otr price its almost in superbike money and in the ballpark of some nice super nakeds.
Open minded to this bike but feels to me it's over engineered.
It,s not a motorbike more like trike
Sorry, nice vid but the bike still looks like a grocery cart to me. No thanks.
Questa non è una motocicletta, questa è una schifezza a 3 ruote.
Extra expense of a 3rd Fork, Wheel, Brakes, Tyres....for no real reason - solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Those saying "extra grip" - if you're that concerned about "grip", should you be riding a bike?
