Phoenix is my favorite just because that was the first time I used the eidolon was on the tree boss fight when my whole party was dead except eiko. It saved my game from 2 hours of not saving haha
the ark summon is like watching dragon ball z... yeah you killed the bad guy but now we need to find a new planet to live on anyway so whats the point!
Ark goes through all that just to deal a single high-damage hit... this always bugged me about FF summons. The most powerful should do multiple hits, and maybe reduce MP, and also induce status effects. Otherwise your usual attacks deal far more damage over the same time as a summon animation.
Summons are useful in the other games, they're just really bad in this one. The damage output simply can't cut it late in the game unless you ore farm. Even then, Eiko's Holy is a significantly better spell than any summon that can also be dual-cast. People generally only use the for their long summon animations, which is great when paired with Auto-regen.
I generelly found Eiko way more useful than Garnet. She had the better white magic with spells like Full Life and Holy. Also while her summons are not that flashy compared to Garnet's they are still more versatile with Phoenix giving you an up to 38% chance to revive your party if it dies and Carbuncle giving all your party Protect and one of Reflect, Vanish, Shell and Haste. And I always thought Madeen was way cooler than Ark.
This particular game did have the option to have "short" summons after the first time you used them. The issue with having lots of hits is that the absolute maximum HP an enemy can have is 65,535 so anything that hits more than once is ridiculously OP.

No, the long animations deal more damage but happen randomly, like a critical hit. They do have a much higher chance of appearing during Garnet's Trance.
I swear when I played this game back then my frame rate didn’t drop. Maybe because I was using the PS1 slim? Can somebody confirm this please? It looked beautiful and smooth.
Ps one was optimized in many ways, but the specs were the same. Maybe it could get 10% better performance than the original 1994 psx. According to wikipedia, there was a performance improvemente between 1994 and 1996 in transparency effects
Arkh's animation is clearly awesomely epic but the fact that's it's originally a boss that barely manages to hurt your party or even kill one member makes it loose credibility
Ark is literally unusable against most enemies because it has a TWO MINUTE LONG animation every time you cast the spell!!!!! I'm walking around using *Bahamut* instead, because I can't handle a two minute animation every time I cast it.
I was Micah Holliday now I go by Justin on YT. I know I seen her in Trance mode and she is very hot in that form indeed. I like the bathing suit look her trance has.
McSpud if you have the PS3 you can buy a digital download on PSN (so did i) nut i really hope they get a remaster of it or just HD release (as it cold be a damm pritty game in HD i love ff9 and its dark story :)
Same here I ended up buying a 2nd hand ps1 and most of the old ff games, you sure cannot compare these to the current updated versions, these are classics.
ARK should have done multiple hits with that attack, heck it should of overpowered Eden from FF8 who after all it's animation and attack did one hit damage but it goes over 9999 how ARKs didn't do over 9999 is beyond me
They blew their load with the summon animations with FF8. These were all so lame and lackluster in comparison. Fenrir and Ark are still badass though, and of course Bahamut.

You need to equip a specific thing on Eiko to get it, iirc. And it has never really been mentioned in the game or something, so I don't blame anyone.
The ítem can be found at Ipsens Tower after the Terra event. I think it's a perfume accessory or something like that.
One of the last summons (forget the name) so makes me think Gundam or some mech type anime put into Final Fantasy. Really awesome stuff!

There is an add-on called Boost which will always gonna be full animation whenever you summon.

cuz Bosses in FF8 have high HP pool, while in FF9 maximum HP is 55k...so that would be unbalanced
