This is one of those songs I keep coming back to decade after decade. The lyrics, the intensity, the poetry of it, the simple musicianship - it always speaks to me. It seems to be describing suffering, but appreciating the beauty in it. Every time I hear it, it's an emotional experience.
My dad used to listen to Turin Brakes when I was little. I’m 21 now and whenever I hear them I feel so nostalgic❤️ they’re honestly so underrated. Simply amazing.
They were the reason I went to my first festival in 2001 aged 36. 45 festivals done now, many as a steward. Seen TB 12+ times. Own everything they've ever done and had the pleasurenof meeting them on three occasions. Best band and nicest guys in the world.
@@MarkWilson-xs7wt Been there since the start like you, fabulous band, seen them so many times. Went to Olly's house and bought his reel to reel off him that he used on his solo album, what a gent!
This is an absolute banger. Reminds me of the sounds of the radio when travelling to Liverpool to Kent and back every weekend in the early 00s when I used to work darn sarth.
Turin breaks- Painkiller. Feeder- Just the way I’m feeling. The Smiths- There is a light that never goes out. Amy Mann- Red Vines. Billy Brag- The price I pay. If you know you know...
For weeks I kept thinking about this tune, but couldn't get the song or lyrics right, then finally this morning, I just remembered the line "summer rain" and here I am... Last listened to this song back when it released in 2003.
Watched them support David Gray over two decades ago in London and was blown away. Still one of my favourite bands today. Playing on my doorstep at Blenheim Palace this summer, will be my first Turin Brakes gig in 22 years :o
Loved this song at the time despite not even really hearing or understanding the lyrics, only now twenty years later I listen to it and actually hear it and it’s immediately going on my Spotify list!!!
Genius, this song makes my heart swell and eyes glaze, perhaps the most uplifting song I've ever heard and when ingested with this clip intensifies it 100 fold
The year was 2003, I'd just started dating my (now) wife. We were 18 and this song was all over the radio. I have a lot of love for this song. The meaning of the song didn't click at the time, but we didn't care haha
This reminds me of 2005 when I was lucky enough to go to Prague Film School in the Summer. This album was the soundtrack of that Summer. A lot of the other students from USA, Mexico, France etc were asking me to play the 'Tape' & I happily obliged. They were even more surprised to hear that they weren't even from the US!
Saw them in 2019, Worthing. Absolutely positive experience when you consider what followed with covid etc. Such a feel good band and I'm a dedicated metal head.
Loved the song at the time, but just could not get into them.... went to see Travis last night in Glasgow and Turin Brakes were the warm up act, and as soon as they broke into this song took me back to a simpler/carefree time 👍
Though i'm more familiar with their debut album, I do love this song. What a collaboration Olly and Gale make. "Feeling Oblivion" and "Underdog" are classics as well
DUDE ive been looking for this song for YEARS since i saw it a few times late on Subterranean on mtv years ago... lol.... thank you random website with old subterranean playlists. i love this song!
Turin breaks were simply kept in the dark for their beliefs in social chaos. Anti government etc etc. Brilliant band. You can tell in their song writing. Particularly, "they can't buy the sunshine". Another classic. God bless Turin breaks... x
The miracle of the 3 minute pop song :) I've 'rediscovered' this song at least once a year ever since it came out. I have no idea what it's really about, but the chorus is about as fine a piece of poetry and pop craftsmanship as you're likely to find.
Because chart music died a long time ago the 2000's was probably the last decade where bands like Turin Brakes could get a massive hit in the charts. Nowadays it's impossible for bands to even get in the top 20 it's just generic garbage. Bands best hope of success in this day and age is the album charts and even then they have their work cut out. I honestly can't remember the last time a band has had a huge hit but mind you I haven't paid attention to the charts since 2015 a wee peak now and then that's it...
Still love this track. Its uplifting. The opening tracks to Beck 'Morning Phase' Play cycle and morning And look out the window as you hear it I play it repeatedly
Can't beleive i've been listening since the beginning and i was only 5, now thats what you call good parenting so glad they never let me listen to crap i've never even heard of most of the crap my friends say there childhood was based on. Turin Brakes are the shit.
@anubhavbvm English band yes, but video shot in America. Cars driving on right, US Post Office emblem behind them on the mailbox. But great song! I can't get enough of it. I'd like to see them in concert some day.
Who's here ❤in 2024 is still loving this, this summer❤
Man I miss the early 00’s. Great times and great music :(
Totally agree
Trying to stop suddenly in Italy. T.B. Turin Brakes. It’s like a Rockbuster, Karl.
weird innit?
This song is pure joy, utterly beautiful. Gives me a wonderful feeling of nostalgia and better times.

This band is something else. They are awesome. Go see them live, you will NOT regret it.
All these years later, and I still can't believe they put "my love giving me head" right there in the chorus. Fucking legends.
This song is truly the bees knees. Too underrated if you ask me. Brings back memories of late summer 2002, when I used to hear it on the radio.
Well it came out in early 2003

Thanks for making me feel old
Haha! Your dad? Now I feel I lost time.

I've just learned this on guitar and now the world is a better place.
This is an absolute banger. Reminds me of the sounds of the radio when travelling to Liverpool to Kent and back every weekend in the early 00s when I used to work darn sarth.

The chorus is so melodic.... 🎼🎶🎶🎶❤

So much classic songs in 02/03 and this is one of them.
I keep forgetting about this band and rediscovering them again, everytime I'm glad I do!
The Haiku re discovered them today
Im the same!
This is THE most underrated song in the history of the world.
Anything that's great yet underrated is usually a sign it's way ahead of it's time.
It was played everywhere in the UK when it came out.
i think you don't know what underrated means
reace m yep!
It did get to number 5 in the UK charts in March 2003 (their biggest hit by a Long Distance).
Listening again for the few hundredth time. Still fantastic.
This riff has stayed with me for 12 years.
I don't think its going anywhere..
You wont get any X-factor winners producing quality music like this! Fab song.
I listen to this twice a day waiting for it to hit a million
literally same we can do it!

Loved this song at the time despite not even really hearing or understanding the lyrics, only now twenty years later I listen to it and actually hear it and it’s immediately going on my Spotify list!!!
It makes me cry at how amazing they are. Totally underrated.
That early 2000s car radio aesthetic.
Genius, this song makes my heart swell and eyes glaze, perhaps the most uplifting song I've ever heard and when ingested with this clip intensifies it 100 fold

I feel such good vibes from this song when I listen to it. Thanks for helping me feel better about my life for a few moments, Turin Brakes.
I'm of the same inclination, that's why I listen to this track a few times in a week... AND Keep Me Around too! 😁
Shame this band still hasn't achieved great mainstream success, they're so great.
"You give me so much love that it blows my brains out!" Got to be up there with the greatest lyrics of all time!
Soooo love this pair.....sweet guitars and beautiful lyrics.
Just heard this on the Ricky Gervais show, awesome song!
Beautiful song.

How is this under 1m views, brilliant song.
It's not just nostalgia. Seriously. Where has all the independent music gone? Tragic😢
Always used to play this first in my selection on the Duke box in the pub back in the day!!
All their songs carry so much emotional weight, thanks to Olly's voice , a gift from heaven
Does not AGE....incredible piece of music x
Cool harmonies, simple tune but sung fantastically, uplifting tuuuuune!! Now, where's me Yamaha acoustic? Ooooh, there it is. Inspired-tastic!!
They're touring with Travis. I heard them last Thusday in Cambridge. Underrated 100%

Saw these guys in Digbeth in Birmingham UK on Friday supporting Brian Wilson, just awesome.
Currently as I message watching Turin Brakes live... Supporting Travis. Rock on!
Saw them in 2019, Worthing. Absolutely positive experience when you consider what followed with covid etc. Such a feel good band and I'm a dedicated metal head.
One of my favourite songs!!!!!
This is actually one of my favourite songs. SUCH an under-rated band!! Come to Ireland please!!
Haha 10 years later still no sign
BRILLIANTLY crafted song and a nice video to accompany it.
Such a great track.
Loved the song at the time, but just could not get into them.... went to see Travis last night in Glasgow and Turin Brakes were the warm up act, and as soon as they broke into this song took me back to a simpler/carefree time 👍
Clark Gillies always wanted to see Travis (and I'm a Fifer!), would've loved to see Turin Brakes do this 😊
Though i'm more familiar with their debut album, I do love this song. What a collaboration Olly and Gale make. "Feeling Oblivion" and "Underdog" are classics as well

Obvious Bicycle capitalism.
