  • This scientific visualization takes the viewer across interstellar space and into a 3D model of the Orion Nebula. Seven individual shots of about ten seconds each are cross-faded together to form the sequence. After traversing among the stars, the camera descends through Orion’s veil of bluish gas, down the valley carved by winds and high energy radiation, and past the bright stars of the trapezium in the core of the nebula. The 3D model combines astronomical knowledge, scientific intuition, and artistic interpretation to create an awe-inspiring journey into the star forming cloud.

    Saw this in IMAX 3D. Stunning! Would love to find it in VR (for Google Cardboard, etc.). Anybody? TIA.

    Really gorgeous 3D! I don't suppose Maya was used to create this? I am also trying to re-create the Orion nebula and am using the Domemaster3D plugin for Maya, how was this one created? any tips you could share? I'd love to speak directly with the artist who re-create this nebula, it would really help me out! Thank you for your time,

      They seem not to answer you. Did you check the Hubble page? Maybe they will be so kind and give you an answer there, I have no idea why it is not possible here, but...
      It sounds wonderful what you are saying, and I wish you lots of luck for you project and for getting your answers there!

      winterweib Aww, thank you!! I did try and reach out through some other websites but never got a response. I did end up using Maya, the Domemaster3D Plugin and a 2D plane w/ image texture for my nebula, came ok I guess, haha. Thanks again for the kind words! :DD

      Laura Jolly I believe it's possible by using Thinkbox karakatoa plugin.

    How big is it? Could Earth fit in there?
    And are the colors accurate?

    • @SuperPlatypus123
      @SuperPlatypus123 8 лет назад +4

      It's huge. Larger than our minds can accept. Estimates put it at 24 light years(the distance light travels in a year) across. In comparison, the distance from the earth to the sun is 8 light MINUTES. The distance from us to the nearest star is 4.3 light years. The colors are accurate, but it probably wouldn't look like that close up.

      +Peace Davis yes, but with the naked eye it just looks like a star. You can see a lot of detail through a telescope. I've seen it through mine in my driveway, and it's fantastic.

    Too bad it wouldn't look like that if you'd fly through it for real.

      @@tripakastayw6872that's not really what they meant. they were more getting at the fact that the colors would not be visible to your eyes, no matter how close you got. It's for the same reason that you can't see color at night; it's just too dark.

      +Gabriel Rd God is too little for the Universe, which is way beyond a creation of God. It just says how close your mind is. This is beyond anything or anyone.

      +Freddy Acosta If you find a watch in the woods, you don't think "Woah, the rocks did something scientific and came together and made this watch." The universe is far too complicated for it to be an accident. Just like a watch, it has a designer.

      +iwannabeurfren Universe is not an accident. And its beyond the creation of beings like GOD.
      At least not the religious Gods.
      Plus, you need to know that the god your referring to is maybe a force of nature or some unconscious system not really GOD which you would imagine
