That album of their concert from the Hollywood Bowl is still one of my all-time favorite recordings. I used to have it on vinyl, then I replaced it with CD - twice.
@@jamesrawlins735 Absolutely! I’ve lost count at how many different LP’s, CD’s (and yes, even cassette tapes) of that concert I’ve had over the years. Chuck was in such fine form that night and his quartet was incredible-esp Chris Vadala.
@@TheBadTrad I have been aware of Chuck since he went to Eastman . He is a magnificent creator of music. Chuck as a player , doesn't have anything on this guy. Of course he has been studying Chuck for about 50 years LOL !
Every man’s ears are his own, but I disagree. If anything, it was the strings which were mixed too hot, and the solo flugel was mixed a bit too low. Nice job, overall, but in this arrangement, some of the string figures lost any semblance of a latin feel.
Chuck had a very impressive tone but was not a very creative solist. Jo Hermans did a magnificent job in the solo. I the melody I was often playing an octave lower than Chuck did. . The orchestra was a bit too smooth. I like the Americans with the sharper acoustics and a stratospheric trumpet section.
