Superb job, l convert vans for a living, usually VW Transporters and have been looking for an alternative to the excellent, but extremely expensive vanshades for a Transit Custom, and came across your video whilst scouring the net. Hat's off to you buddy for a cracking job
Hey there! Wow thanks for the comment 👍 I have to confess I did see the idea somewhere else but not seen in a Transit Custom so gave it a crack! Thanks again and all the best… 😃
@@chriscurl8162 hi mate - I think they do a smaller blind but I am not sure if they would fit the rear window. I only did the side windows on mine as I don’t have rear windows. Smallest width is 60cm looking at their website www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hoppvals-room-darkening-cellular-blind-grey-10386431/
Very useful video. Just wondering if you have been able to make the sliding dorr identical. Because of runner. Hoping your design will work on my Renault trafic 2019 lwb premier edition. But I have sliding door both sides. As it was a crew cab type originally
Thanks for the comment and checking out the video 👍 I haven’t got to the sliding door but I do have a plan to.. same approach really but the blind is narrower to fit the window aperture in door.. I hope the same idea will work in the Traffic too! Good luck with it 👍
Hey Kris 👍 ah cool! Not done the sliding door side yet - but I did check and there is a smaller blind that fits inside the window aperture and then the process should be pretty much the same 👍
If I do a good job covering the top, bottom and side edges of these blinds like you did, are these blackout? For example, if it’s night and you have lights on inside the van and the blinds are down, can you see that the lights are on if you’re outside?
I don’t know if they would classify as 100% blackout but they do do a very good job!.. IKEA describe it as a “darkening” blind so maybe not full black out 👍
love this. Cheapest version for my vivaro was 190 quid!!! I've almost got mine built now and will be finishing it off soon. I'd just like to ask though, that shelf that got broken....where did you get it from?
Ah cool thanks Kenny 👍 Yeah pretty good hack I thought… glad you got one on your build too 👍 I can’t claim the original idea but happy with how my version ended up.. Ha the broken shelf… I think my wife picked these up from home bargains or somewhere like that? It was a longer one that we cut down to two pieces 👍
@@TransitCustomCamper cheers for the reply. I have a home bargains just down the road so I'll take a look. One final question if you dont mind. what width was the cable trunking you used to fit the hoppvals into? many thanks and best regards, Kenny.
Hi I'm planning to do the same with my vw t5 and use ikea schottis blinds. I got 3 of them for €31 shipping included. Did you make the pod surround out of a template. The pods to by online are very expensive £200 each😮 Thanks
Ah great yeah! These are well worth a go compared to the cost of the pods! No I didn’t use a template - I just measured up and then had a few test fits before I got the final fit 👍
Great design and loads cheaper than anything else on the market. Just got 2 questions. Are they fully blackout ? Also have you thought about trying to add in a roller fly screen ? Thanks for all the posts .
Sorry have to do this… I have been expecting you Mr Bond 😀 on a serious note… thanks for the comment and checking out the video… I am not sure if IKEA class then as 100% blackout but to be honest when using they do pretty much give us full darkness… On the fly screen…no but that’s a good idea! I’ll have to think about that for v2… I am still saving for a new van hence why I haven’t done much new content… but as soon as I do I’ll think about the fly screen 👍 cheers again and all the best
We only have this one blind at the moment so there is other windows where the light gets in our van - however these are the black out options and they do keep the light in very well too 👍
brilliant video this mate and thank you for sharing !! iv got some time off work now for xmas so i going to give this ago , what size trunking did you use
Ah thanks mate 👍 Sounds like a good Xmas holiday project! I can’t recall the exact size I think it was about 1 inch or maybe a bit over? I think I eye balled it when I was in B&Q 😃 Thanks again and have a great x-mas season 🎄
Ah thanks 👍 yeah the blind does go all the way up behind but could have maybe cut the hole a bit bigger also.. thanks for the feedback, comment and checking out the videos too 😀
Hi - thanks for the comment and checking out the video 👍 they stay in place no problem… only thing I noticed that there is a spring inside the blind at the top that does rattle a little bit against the metal body of the blind so on the one on the sliding door side I put some foam tape in there so no rattles 👍 so if you go for this solution I’d do that before fitting too 😄
my blinds are coming on nice, did you fix the blind with a more permanent fix in the end instead of velcro or is is still holding up ? im struggling to fix a permanent fix the brackets that come with the blind push it too far away from the pod and screwing into the blind might be the only way but difficult
Hey 👋 I just used the Velcro tape and it’s been fine no issues and still in place so I didn’t need anything else… Also it’s pretty snug when fitted into the window aperture too so I think that helped a little too 👍 Hope you can get it sorted… Also one thing also I would try and put some foam tape inside where the metal spring is in the top casing as it rattles a bit! 👍
@@TransitCustomCamper ah ok brilliant i will go with the velcro iv found a roll and just fitted to the prototype and your right it does seem very secure very happy how it looks , iv just got to wait for some suede now and build a good one , cheers for the tip with the spring ! is that hitting the housing ?
@@roostaraver ah nice one 👍 yeah it’s hitting the housing… I didn’t do mine but someone commented after it was fitted… you could try and put 4 way stretch Capet in but I think foam tape should be winner!
Hi mate, the videos are excellent. Got a SWB two weeks ago and these videos are so informative. One question, where did you purchase your windows from as they look very good quality? Thank you in advance 👍🏻
Hey Scott 👍 thanks for the comment and feedback on the videos mate, glad you finding them useful 😃 The windows was one thing I didn’t do myself… There was a local conversion company close to me that did the supply and fit for these but they closed down over lockdown 👎 although it am pretty sure they came from Kiravans www.kiravans.co.uk/products/left-opening-window-for-ford-transit-custom-2013?variant=30380999278645¤cy=GBP&+shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQiAuvOPBhDXARIsAKzLQ8EtO-2cjd0gvdanRcrneZ9o0Hjs2KdCblWTF4j5sWxDcEZBXlyzpsoaAnMOEALw_wcB
Hi - thanks for checking out the video 👍 I haven’t got around to the sliding door one yet 🥲 I was planning to use the same style blind as before but I think the smaller version
@@TransitCustomCamper no worries and I need a 90 cm blind which they dont seem to do its 80cm or 100cm wonder if there's something, way of cutting these down

I did exactly the same on my sprinter van during 2021…. Awesome blinds
Yeah a good solution - I am sure I saw the original idea on another channel but not seen them in a custom so gave it a go 👍
Tidy job Dave. Well done.

that was a fantastic job.

Great video, really thorough. What size conduit did you use for the hopval blind please?
Ah thanks 🙏 hrmm now that’s a question! I can’t remember now it was about 1 or 1.5 inches I think? Sorry I can’t remember for sure 😅
Very smart indeed!
Thank you!! 👍
Great work!! Can you translate what I should look for here in the US for the side track?
Thanks for the comment.. Would the US term be conduit maybe? Not 100% sure?
Great job going to do them in my Toyota Alphard I think 👍👍 give
