I love the simplicity of this pedal. Excellent demonstration and lesson.
Thank you so much Reed. Happy that you enjoy this 🎸
This is the best demo I’ve come across for this pedal. The tone on that Stratocaster sounds awesome.
Thank you very much. Happy that you like the vid, and my Strat 🎸
Thank you! Best step by step demo I have seen. Rock on, brother!
Very cool. So happy that you enjoy this. Thank you 🎸
Great explanatory video. Listenable playing with clear skill set.
Thank you very much Andrew. I’m very happy that you feel that way. Very cool.
Video was a huge help. Answered the specific questions with relation to the momentary switch, which I didn't understand, but knew I needed. Great job! I'll be tuning in....
That's great news Jon. I'm very happy that it was helpful to you. Makes me feel good to know that I'm making sense. Thank you very much for tuning in.
Agreed, whole heartedly
I had an FS-7, that I used for my delay pedal, but hooked it up to the RC-1 and my looping life has become so much better. Not having to double tap to stop is amazing lol
That's an interesting pedal the FS-7. Yes, one tap stop function is amazing for me as well. No tap dancing. Haha. Thank you. Happy playing.
I just got an RC 1 a few days ago and have since come across your video. It was a great help. Thanks for sharing your experience.
That' awesome Philip. My pleasure, thanks for watching. Enjoy your new pedal. I made another helpful video about the RC-1. I'll show you how to customize the BOSS RC-1 loop Station pedal so that one click will start the loop playback without the overdub function. Very helpful. Enjoy.
Always enjoy your vids. Thanks man
I’m very happy to hear that. Thank you very much for that.
Also, hold down the pedal while you plug in power. You can change the setting so it doesn’t automatically start over dubs after original recording. Super helpful to minimize tap dancing.
Great point. I've heard that. Thank you so much for pointing that out. Do you mean hold down the pedal while you plug in the input jack? What if you're using a battery? Funny about the tap dancing.
Did not know that... Gonna try that today, that would solve a specific problem I have of tying two compositions together, thanks in advance, if it works
I'm thinking that would be a more useful setting for me too. I never do overdubs with it. You're awesome.
Agreed, whole heartedly
@@jonkennard4428 Awesome. Thanx Jon.
Thanks for this review Jerry. I will be buying this pedal.
My pleasure. I'm happy that you find this helpful 🎸
Jerry, love the sounds and enjoyed seeing the loop pedal work. I’ve always enjoyed artists who do live loops in their shows. It’s an art form in and of itself. Great video! Ps. When you get 100,00 subs, you can call your fans the Cherries 🍒
Thank you Tiffany. I'm so happy that you enjoyed the looper video. I'm pretty basic at it compared to some real hard core loopers that I know. It's amazing. You know what's funny is that since I started Jerry Cherry I've always called fans, friends, and followers "Cherries." I haven't yet on RUclips because I guess I've been feeling it out. Now thats all about to change. You're the best.
Cheers Jerry, great stuff. I was impressed that when you started recording a phrase and used the FS5U pedal to stop recording it actually saved the phrase without playing it back, so you could then restart it again when you wanted to solo over the top of it later in the song. Very cool! I was looking at the TC Ditto but I’m thinking this one will be better for me and Boss lasts forever. Have a great one man.
Thank you for the great comment. Yes, that's a great feature. I'm about to make another video about the RC-1. How to stop the RC-1 without it recording an overdub. Instead it will playback. Thats a useful feature too.
awesome. I have this loop pedal and now I will use it.
Thank you sherry. Enjoy your looping 🎸
Very informative, I'm starting to get into the realm of pedals. Awesome video!
Thank you Barrett. I'm very happy that you watched and enjoyed it. Have fun with the pedals. Happy Pickin'
Thanks Jerry, great video. Appreciate it very much!
My pleasure and thank you Malachi. Very happy that you enjoy it.
Very useful video Jerry, clearly explained how the FS5U works which was what I was hoping for. Nice playing too, so refreshing not to have to experience a demo from yet another mindless shredder! Thank you.
Thank you so much. I'm so happy to hear that. Very cool of you to say that about my playing. I wanted to keep it simple and focus on the pedal which was the point of this video. So happy that you enjoyed it and found it helpful.
Wonderful tutorial just what I needed

Good useful video, thanks for posting this. I also appreciate your playing, sounds great to my ears and glad you kept it clean instead of crazy distortion like most other videos. I just bought the rc-1 and was wondering what footswitch to get and you answered that question for me so thank you for that.

BOSS RC-1 Loop Station Pedal with the BOSS FS-5U

Thank you Jim. I'm really happy that you enjoyed this and found it helpful. It's my pleasure.

De nada mi amigo.
Nice and clean explanation. I have the RC-300, and utilize it's three tracks, but currently doing an acoustic thing where I really only need the solo section, and don't want to lug around the 300. Was looking for info on this with the f5-6, looks like it should work well. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for the great comment. I'm not familial with the RC-300 but I'm sure it has some cool features like you mentioned. Yes, the FS-5U works so good with the looper. It would be very hard for me to go without it. Keep Rockin. I'm happy that you enjoyed the video. Thanx.
I have spent "innumerable" hours over innumerable days... weeks? I just got back having decided to acquire the FS 5U. I knew I needed the pedal to work with the Looper I have. The RC 1. Serendipitous...? Phew! Thank you.
What a great comment. I'm so happy that you got the the FS-5U Footswitch and it's working well for you with the RC-1. That's great news. Also happy that you enjoyed the video. Thank you.
Excellent information. Convinced me to buy the fs-5u. Only thing most inexpensive pedals don't have that I would like is an expression pedal capability so I could control the volume of the loop with my feet. The RC-300 I used to have was good for that, but was more than I needed most of the time and too heavy to lug around to use once or twice in a set. The ME-70 that I've been using since 2010 has the expression pedal capability, but is only 38 seconds and you can't stop and start it. Woe is me. The MXR 303 Looper is controllable to an expression pedal, but it got quite a few knocks in the review section, and many non-Boss pedals don't have the same feel or quietness of operation, so I haven't tried for it. And it's backordered anyway, so that's a non-starter for now, unless one were to get a use one, which would probably be non-returnable in case I didn't like the feel. Anyway, thanks for this video.
Thank you Bob. Happy that you got the FS-5U. I've had a few forever. Workhorses. The DMC Micro Pro is a little midi pedal that might adjust the volume on the fly. This would be for the RC-5 that has midi. Enjoy your search.
Great demo, I was wondering if I should get an FS switch to try out with my new RC-1. You've answered that for me: definitely. Thanks!
Great news Simon. Awesome FSwitch. Thank you 🎸
GREAT!
Thank you Tony. Very happy that you enjoy this.
Thanks so much. I bought an RC-1 a few years ago, but hand issues kept me from playing for a while. I'm coming back now but until your video, had only a vague idea (no instructions) how to use the loop pedal. You answered ALL my questions.
Thank you James. I hope that your hand is healing and that you're enjoying playing. It makes my day when I hear that this video was helpful. Very happy that you enjoy it.
@@JerryCherryBand I have been recording simple 3 chord progressions and getting the start/stop timing down to get pretty clean loops, and am having a blast cooking up little lead solos. Callouses are returning! Do you have any videos on how to progress from pentatonic scales to more sophisticated lead melodies? For example, If I lay down a loop in G, going to C for a few bars, back to G, and then to D, back to G...how can I learn to match my lead meanderings better to the chord changes? Right now I wander around the pentatonic scale randomly, but I know there is a better way. LOL. PS-The gods are smiling on me. My arthritic fingers are staying loose and I'm very hopeful I can play my way to higher levels.
Never mind. I just checked and see you have several videos on learning to solo. I'll be watching them tomorrow. You have me excited about playing again. Thanks.
@@jamesrife1285 It's so great that you're creating some cool progressions to solo over with your looper. Great video Jerry. Love the tone also. Has a country vibe.

Americana
@@erikpaterson1404 I'll take that. I love most styles of music. Funny fact. A friend of mine was voted best Americana Singer / Songwriter. He's from England. Haha. His name is James Maddock.
@@JerryCherryBand thanks for that, I’m going to look him up. I love Americana
Great video especially using the foot switch. I have one of these, and a ditto, a first generation one with just the switch and volume. Comparing the two, the ditto is more simple to use. Just one led that’s green in playback, red in recording and overdubs. Hold two seconds to clear, and a tricky hold down, maybe one second, to clear the overdub. I never ever get it right. But the boss is more adjustable, with the different modes( but I can’t figure them out frequently) with the half circle. Anyway you me realize I probably should get the foot switch. Thanks
Thank you Jonathan for the great comment. I made another video explaining how to set the unit so that one click puts it in playback mode only. Very helpful. I never used a Ditto, This RC-1 is the only looper I've ever used. Works pretty good for me for affordable basic looper. I'm sure they get more expensive and advanced. I'd love to upgrade to something like that at some point. The RC-1 is a great tool. Rock on and thank you again.
Great job. I was wondering if i could use the external pedal or not. But now I see it will be worth buying.
Thank you for the great comment. It really is worth it. I bought the RC-1 not thinking about the FS-5U. I happened to have had one luckily. Couldn't image not having it now. Stay loopy.
great songideas! ;-)

the second half of the video helped :)
That’s great to know. I’m very happy you found this helpful. Thank you.
Loved this video, exactly what I needed to figure out if I needed the extra pedal or not to go with the loop pedal I already own. Been a pain over the years double tapping it so I'm hoping this helps me out too. Thanks!
Thank you so much Zachary. The extra pedal will help for sure. Hitting to pedal once makes it so much easier. Rock on. Let me know how it works out for you.
@@JerryCherryBand just arrived! Figuring it out now. There is a switch at the top of the fs5u pedal next to the jack input, it might be a polarity switch? Not too sure what that serves to do but i’ll get there!
@@zachdods Awesome. Yes it's a polarity switch. These pedals are also used for sustain pedals for piano. Or even Tap delay functions. Many uses. Have fun.
@@JerryCherryBand It's been really useful so far, I'm just using your video as a guide to getting used to it for a bit. Thanks again
@@JerryCherryBand May i ask what the polarity switch does in relation to the RC1, or does it make no difference for this pedal, i’ll just leave it in the best position
Thankyou
You're welcome. I'm happy that you enjoyed this.
You can also use a keyboard sustain pedal as a stand in for the fs 5u
Yes. You can even use the FS-5U as a keyboard Sustain Pedal. I used to use one with my guitar synth. I still use it with my midi keyboard. Thank you for the comment Sameer.
Awesome... This answers one of my questions thanks!
So you can’t use the 5su pedal to do the initial recording and act like the rc1? I’m asking because o have my pedal board on top of my Rhodes keyboard. I want to route a pedal on the floor to trigger all functions in the rc1
Thanx Vammy for your comment. As far as I know you have to press the RC-1 in all cases to start the record. The FS5U only turns it off.
Hi great video I've just got these 2 pedals please may I ask you is the Boss FS-5U pedal is only to stop the looper and erase any recordings ..you can't start a loop up with the Boss FS-5U only for stopping yes and then you hit the looper pedal again to start yes...cheers J
Thanks Joe. Just stops and or erases loops. Other things too like tap tempo fro the RC-5 if set for it.
Great video man! Ive just started using a set up just like yours with a drum pad but for some reason i cant work out my Fs5u to just stop the loop and click on the RC to bring it back, it kinda chops the loop, any tips on that? Im actually a drummer so i have zero knowledge on this topic, thanks in advance
Thank you Nando. You should be able to press the FS5U to stop your loop. The RC1 can be tricky. Since you are a drummer, get the tempo in your head first then click the RC1 to record. That’s the start time of the playback. Best if it’s on the down beat. If you start on any other part of the beat it will also start there. Pretty sure the FS5U is set to default to stop play back and by holding you’ll delete the loop.
Hello Jerry, I need help. I have an Echoplex like Eric Johnson, but I used to have foot pedal BOSS to control on and off. I wonder if it is the same thing as the one you have BOSS FS-5U, that you are using or can I used BOSS FS-5U with my Echoplex? Thank you and have a wonderful day. Mai.
Hi Dayjeen. Thank you for the comment. It could be the same pedal. I'm pretty sure the BOSS FS-5U will work. It uses a 1/4" patch cable. It works as an on-off pedal, or a sustain pedal. There's a polarity switch on the pedal for that purpose. Hope that helps.
Hey! Great tutorial. I was just wondering. When you hold down the FS-5U to delete a phrase. Does it just delete the last phrase you recorded? Or does it delete all the phrases you recorded except the first phrase? I hope I worded that so it was understandable.
Thank you Pat. In the standard mode that the RC-1 comes "factory settings" you can pause and resume all the loops that you made after the initial loop while holding down. I'm not sure but if you have multiple loops you should be able to delete just the last one. I didn't do that in this video. I actually made a second video showing how to use the pedal in a different mode where one click puts it in playback mode after the initial loop. That's the way I use it. Just one loop and play over it. There're many cool features. For the price it's a great looper. I recently got the RC-5 and made a video on that. Lots of cool features. It's like the RC-1 but it sounds a bit better, actually 16 bits better. Haha. It has drums. Many parameters to make it work for you. Have fun looping.
Now I'm really interested to know. I'll have to check on that. Thank you Pat.
Hi, great video! How can i s6 footswitch looping function with cube street 2? I cant find this information anywere thanks
Thank you very much. I'm not familiar with the cube street 2. Looks like a cool battery powered amp with a looper. I see there's a footswitch connection to it. 1/4". I don't use the FS6. You can use this footswitch though as an on/off if that's useful for the looper function on the amp. Maybe a tap function / start /stop?
The features are really cool but I am hearing a difference in the sound coming directly from the guitar compared to the looper. It's the same for ditto loopers. At least the standard ditto. That's why I got the pigtronix infinity 2. The sound coming from this thing is perfect and sound exactly the same as the guitar. But I have problems with that too. The led's are not bright enough and I had weird tone coming from that pedal while performing live. The first one even was completely broken and I had to return. Seems like there's not the ultimate looper pedal out there yet
Thank you Nu Spirit for your comment. I do understand what you're saying. You bring up a great point. I've been using the RC-5 looper because it has a few more cool features. One of them is that the recording of the loop is 32 bit unlike the 16 bite the RC-1 has. The sound is very good coming back. Having said that I think the trick is to get your playback level as close to your playing level so that that you don't hear a level difference when your loop takes over. Happy looping and that you.
👍👍👍👍
Hey Jerry, thanks so much for the video! It was incredibly helpful and easy to follow! I'm currently using the same setup as you have in the video but for some reason, my Boss FS5U is not pausing the loops when I click it, it's just erasing them after a few seconds. This is only from tapping it once, I'm not holding it down. Do you know why this might be? Not sure if there's a setup function that needs to be reset or something. Any info on this would help! Thanks again!
Hi. Check the polarity switch on the FS-5U. Try both but should be on non latching.
Also, try setting it to a one click playback instead of addition loop. Or just reset.
@@JerryCherryBand thanks Jerry! How would I do that switching to one click playback?
@@KyleClaeys Here's a link to my video showing that. Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/RCpVQBA8sNA/видео.html
In using the fs5, what if you’re on the 2nd mode of stopping the loop? The mode that when you stop it, it has to finish the phrase you recorded. Will fs5 completely stop or will it finish the phrase?
The FS-5U should do that. Whatever you have your looper set to the footswitch will do. Thanx.
Jerry Cherry = coolest name... ever.
Thank you. Moody is pretty awesome too. Reminds me of “My Bodygaurd.” movie.
@@JerryCherryBand You know I have never seen that movie.... I know it was Whitney and Kevin in it.... but again, never way it. Great video btw.
@@TMoody Different movie. Classic 80's Thanx again.
So basically you use the Fs5u to stop & delete?
Hi, thanks for this cherry video, however, I want to do something not covered in the vid... I want to record a loop, and then, instead of having to press the rc-1 twice to stop recording and continue looping, I've seen someone use fs5u to stop recording and continue the loop... Do I need to switch polarity between NO/NC to achieve this please... It would just make things easier, as having to toe the rc-1 twice can be distracting, or sometimes I just plain forget, whichcan produce terrible results 😁🎸 💪
Thank you for the good words. I did make a video on this. Hopefully it helps. BOSS RC-1 Loop Pedal - One Click Loop Playback Without Overdubs
ruclips.net/video/RCpVQBA8sNA/видео.html Doing it this way you only have hit the RC1 once to go into playback. Hit it again to loop. Use the FS5U to stop playback and erase.
@@JerryCherryBand ha, remarkably, that vid showed up on my stream 5 mins after my message! Great info, I completely missed the fact that I could change the function of the switch 😅 cheers
@@axegrinder65 That's awesome axe. I missed it too at first. Happy that you got it going. It's a good switch. Works for many things.
I wonder if you can use that looper with the FS-5L
If it has a switch to make it unlatching it should work.
@@JerryCherryBand It doesn't but I tried it and works. Just make sure the led on the footswitch is off otherwise it'll erase the phrase automatically 😆
Can the Boss RC-1 also be used for vocals?
Yes. It will loop anything you put into it. Just need a 1/4” cable from your mic. 🎤
Man if I use the RC1 can I record a track, like bass, stop it, then bring it back later in the song?
Yes you can. That's one of the best features. Record your part, stop it without playback or not, then bring it back at anytime. Have fun looping. Thanx for asking.
@@JerryCherryBand hey thanks a lot man you made me decide to get it hahaha cheers bro nice channel
@@JerryCherryBand does it loop voice?
@@MADKOALA Yes. Plug your mic into the pedal with a Hi Z 1/4 cable. I've never done that with the RC-1 but it will work. Just be soft on the pedal because the noise will bleed through the mic.
The rc1 deletes the last loop by holding, how does this extension effect that?
The FS switch does the same. Hold to delete. But does more.
Stops by pressing once. Easier than pressing the RC1. If you hit the RC1 it will start the loop then hit again to delete. Not smooth.
@@JerryCherryBand okay i went with the fs6 dual. Thanks for the reply!
@@JerryCherryBand the fs6 has the specific tap for deleting the last layer with one click. All three of these (fs7 too) ar confusing. Damn electricity!!!
@@ElixerS5 I liked the FS7 better. No battery needed to work.
bummer. i was really hoping the fs-5u could trigger the overdub so that i could trigger overdubbing from a different space in the studio. oh well... the search continues
Yeah, I believe the only way to trigger the looper to record is to press it. On the RC-5 you can switch through 99 loops with a midi pedal. Even then you'd have to press the RC-5 to record. Search on my friend. I'll be thinking about it too.
@@JerryCherryBand thanks brother, appreciate you!

@@JerryCherryBand Thank you so much! very thoughtful. However my "BOSS RC-Loop Station Pedal does not work the way you described in the Video. I click it once, (on the loop station switch) then record rhythm. The next click does NOT put it into Overdub, It plays back what I just recorded from the 1st CLICK, then live I can double my Rhythm track with the SECOND (click not recording) Third click It will put in OVERDUB (Playing live I'm not interested in overdubbing) PERFECT!!!! thats NOT my problem. I have to CLICK the BOSS SU-5U 2 TIMES to make it stop! NOT 1 CLICK, as described in the video...you are great instructor!! my pedals (exact ones) are NOT doing what yours are doing. Big thanks! any ideas?
@@andremike1 Its good that you're now in 1 click playback mode. That's all I do so that I can recod a loop and solo or sing over it. The FS-5U switch should stop the playback with one click. There's a little switch on the left of the 1/4 jack. Try switching that. Thats the polarity switch.
@@andremike1 With the RC-1 in 1 click playback mode, I only click it once to start the loop record. Second press playback. I use the FS-5U or FS-7 to stop it. No need to click the RC-1 more then one time. Only to restart the loop.
@@JerryCherryBand I have changed the polarity button... still takes 2 clicks to stop the play back using the SU-5U switch.....brand new both units...is it possible broke or am I just freaking clueless....very frustrating, but easier then using the RC-1 looper switch to stop it. any ideas? Thank you Jerry!
so better to just buy a bigger looper with separate buttons for play/stop and redo
Yes that’s a good idea. This video is intended to maximize what this very good inexpensive looper can do. Plus this external foot switch is also useful for other things like tap delay and a sustain pedal.
Fret buzz like crazy.
bros voice is bass boosted
Nope. Not at all.
