Swapped my first engine at 17 and had quite a few bolts left over. Was so happy when I got hit and the car was totalled and I didn’t have to have nightmares about that anymore

@@abarrazarios For real if you have the proper tools and a good service manual/AllData (or these days RUclips lol) you can really accomplish any repair or maintenance item on your vehicle. I mean I went to school and got an applied sciences degree in automotive technology and then when I went out and started working in the field that shit didn’t really ever get out to use lol, you have to learn hands on and actually do it anyway to people just gotta grab a wrench and go.

@@joekirklin same bro he wasn't running off on me yet because he seemed like he didn't fit the other guys' energy and vibe, but thats just cuz he was not used to being on a show yet... as soon as he got comfortable, he shot like a rocket and I don't even remember when I started liking him lol its just as if I never found him boring at all.

after seeing this, it makes me feel good that a beginner (like myself) can still learn. I changed my oil, flushed and filled coolant system and changed my motor mounts. TBH, I was always scared of even touching the battery, but I had to take it out to get to one of the mounts, and just that was freeing for me. I can finally say I DID IT!

Super approachable guide to an engine removal. They used jacks and stands just like most would at home. They do all this with equipment we can get and afford. That is the best part about this channel. You guys are awesome!

This video is a year old and I know maybe no one will see this, but so far this has to be one of my favorite videos on this channel. Everything about it is so relaxing and calming to me for some odd reason, despite the fact that this task is so difficult for most people. This made me genuinely happy :)
You're not alone! I just recently found the money pit series and have been watching the hell out of it. Super educational and hilarious at the same time! It was really nice to see a skilled mechanic helping out a relatively non-skilled mechanic, for lots of us it gave us the perspective of ourselves trying to do something this daunting.

I can't say enough about how I much fun your jobs seem to be. I love cars and feel like I made mistakes in my life chasing money vs just doing the things I loved and earning money doing them. Working with guys like these on cars all day would seem like a vacation to me.

It’s more than just a RUclips channel... it’s a *family*
My tip for electrical connectors is that I have an assortment of different colored zip-ties. I put a tie on the lead to the connector, and one of the same color around the receptacle or sensor. Just not on hot stuff like o2 sensors. I just leave them on. That way, they are pre-marked if I have to disconnect them in the future. Works great, and saves confusion and time.

And I gotta say I love this video, James putting in the work and getting it done without much help shows part of your growth and I think it’s awesome. This was the video I needed to watch. I got me a VW mk2 diesel and need to do some fluid changes. I have always been in the back "learning" as people have done things to cars. This video gives me the confidence to watch some videos, read the service manual (what a resource) and make my Jetta happy. Then comes straight waste oil set up. Much exite. Doughnut rocks

My first motorcycle I took apart completely I had a couple of bushings left over, and no matter where I looked I couldn't find where they went, runs good still
James followed Zack's order of operation,. Didn't think we'd notice when Zack told him, "be ready for spills, it's gonna happen, have rags and brake cleaner handy, but also draining the transmission first would have prevented this.(8:24)" Even though he just told everyone to pull driveshaft and then drain all fluids.(3:29) Remember kids always drain fluids before pulling driveshaft. As much as I love James, I love seeing him get in there and get his knux greasy. This has become my favorite channel to watch
I did it the for first time this summer. The trickiest part for me was just making sure i was doing it right (confidence) didnt want to drop the original 350 on the front bumper. Took so much longer than it would a second time. Forums are key. The classic olds forum was absolutely essential. Probably as handy as the chiltons manual for basic stuff in my experience.

I was an oil change guy at work a while back with no experience. They made me learn on a 19 gmc terrain after only ever going brakes as my biggest job. As of right now I’m doing a piston job and rebuilt my first transmission 😀

As a young car enthusiast I thoroughly enjoy this channel and I'm glad that such good people run the show and you guys go the absolute mile to prevent misinformation to your viewers. And you are honest with your content. I love it keep it up guys
My best advice... get in a good friendship/relationship with someone who either manages/owns/works at a mechanic shop. my best friend works as a mechanic at the same shop my dad manages. everytime I ever needed to pull my tranny or motor I take it to them to put on the lift. makes life so damn easy
Once there was a kid that asked how a turbo works. A guy named Bart answered his question. Then he answered more questions. Then some other guys answered even more questions. Then that kid got addicted to donut media.

For jobs that have a lot of different length bolts I’ll grab a piece of cardboard, draw a rough diagram and poke holes in it where the bolts are. It’s a little excessive but if it’s a backyard job and you have to leave the project for a week or so, you can come back and know exactly where you left off

I actually did this exact thing years ago with a friend of mine. I was a professional mechanic, my friend was a car enthusiast with some experience working on cars, but not much. We replaced the engine in his FWD car in his driveway. I “made” him do most of the work, offering guidance and a helping hand when needed. Honestly, the best way to help someone learn something as hands-on as car repairs is to just have them do it and offer advice when they get stuck or start to do something wrong/dangerous.

That’s way cool. I remember how terrified I was doing my first head gasket. I spent extra time cleaning the head just so that i could time the hard parts when i had a buddy near by. Congrats. You can do anything with enough will power.

4:51... My friend did when we were fixing my 97 Mitsubishi L200 Pick up Truck... I did the reverse when we were done... use 2 long pieces of wood pop it open, jam some clothes on the edges, then unbolt them, hold the hood when removing the pieces of wood, then lift...
