- On this actual bike, Eddy Merckx raced the 1971 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which he won. This bike was built with a particularly slack seat tube angle of 70° which would have helped Eddy to find some comfort on the rougher road sections.

I still have my Falcon Eddy Merckx Super Competition 102 that I raced on in the 70's. It cost over 500 pounds in 1972. It was an identical looking bike to this one in the video except came with a sloped crown chrome fork. Looking down at Eddy's photo on the headtube not looking calm and glamourous but with a look of determined agony on his face made me peddle at least 2 mph faster! It was a lot of fun feeling like Eddy Merckx even if only in my own head!
Thanks for sharing the video
my goodness! what a beauty!
Wunderschönes Rad, davon kann ich nur träumen!
Simple but very rigid and very well made. Got the same bike but a 1972 Colnago Super.
Thank you very much. Beautiful bike. I don't like the drilling on the brake levers. Stupid fashion. But very popular at the time.
I like how Eddy jettisons his cap at 00:43 so he can lighten up and go even faster.
I don´t give a heck to Ferraris, Gucci or stuff. But this bike makes me drool.
El clímax del diseño en acero ...

Not one of the greatest, not arguably the greatest, but definitely without question The Greatest Cyclist, The Greatest Athlete of all time, bar none!
Nah that would be Novak Djokovic. What he has done in tennis destroys what Merckx did in cycling. And the scary part is he still has more greatness to add to an already untouchable career.
@@fender1000100Wrong! Just go look at Merckx palmares, dont forget his 6 day wins as well, dont forget minor classics as well, and minor tours such as Route de Sud, Paris Nice etc. Lets not forget how much harder bike racing is than tennis.
Next Jahangir Khan would beat Novak. Khan dominated world squash, unbeaten in 10 years! Thats almost impossible! Except Aussie girl Heather Mackay was close to his feat! Nope, stats alone prove Eddy tge greatest, but his complete domination, carrying a debilitating back injury for most of his csreer as well, speaks to the amazing courage. He won on all courses, dropping others both up and down hill, on the flat, winning sprints against the fastest, winning time trials, winning on the track. Only rider to ever hold all 3 jerseys in TDF. Nope, the world will never see an athlete like Eddy again!
Merckx retired right before performance-enhancing drugs started making their way into endurance sports. His records might still be standing today if EPO and other PED's stayed out of cycling. And if you can't even compare cycling record before vs. after PED's, then you certainly can't compare tennis to cycling. Anybody setting records in their respective sport is already a legend IMO.
@@Pellagrah you are correct, you cannot compare tennis to bike racing, you cannot compare anything to bike racing, nothing comes close! But you can compare squash and tennis, go look at Jahangir Khans record, go look at Heather Mackays record!

In the 70s everybody, effectively, raced on the same bike
Where is the tab to screw the number plate onto the frame?????
The Windsor profesional 1977, is the same to that bike?
No. Windsor was a make started in Mexico by a former Cinelli builder.
So were the steel bikes that came out with the Eddy Merckx logo’s made at the Colnago factory?
No. Like all the finest bikes today and salivated over by all the in-the-know, know-it-all hipster riders, it, too was MADE IN CHINA with Shi&mano - also MADE IN CHINA and came, of course, fully pre-fabricated right out of a box. Just open the box, remove the padding, turn of the bars, mount the pedals and voila, it was ready to ride..............
Early eddy merckx were actually made in Belgium !
Eddy and Ernesto had a falling out in October1972, after the hour record. From 1973 until he retired, Eddy's bikes were made by Ugo DeRosa. DeRosa helped Eddy start his own shop in 1978.
No, but out or respect for Colnago when Eddy started production of his bikes they were not available for purchase in Italy. IDK how long that policy lasted or if it is still true.
@@ToddBrooks-gm6hy So they were made in Belgium with Colnago lugs? I saw one of Eddy’s old personal bikes and the lugs have the Colnago logo stamped into them.
That Bike probably sold IMMEDIATELY. Curiou$ how much it $old for?
What's with the lame background "music"?
