The Story of Bagua Zhang Ep. 06 - Li Cunyi & Guo Zhenya

- The story of Bagua Zhang was produced and released domestically in China in around the year 2020. It features four lengthy episodes covering different topics regarding the history and practice of Bagua Zhang along with various interviews.
I have translated, subtitled and dubbed this series and have also added relevant information for the international community to enjoy. I will be releasing it in smaller episodes for ease of viewing. Following this, I have some follow up interviews and videos that I will film and produce regarding the topic of Bagua Zhang and its history.
Episode 6
In this episode we look at the history of Xingyi Quan & Bagua Zhang practitioner and founder of the Chinese Warrior Society, Li Cunyi, and how his endeavors led to the establishment of the Central Guoshu Institute. We then look at Guo Mengshen, an early teacher at the institute and the Bagua Zhang he handed down to his son, Guo Zhenya, and his grandson, Guo Hao.

Ok, so I'm guessing Guo Zhenya is linked to Li Cunyi through his teachers, just as you are, through your shifu, Zhao Zhong, Liu Huapu and Shang Yunxiang ? Otherwise I'm surprised as to how little there is on this surprising addition to a Bāguà documentary. I would have liked to know more on his relationship with Cheng Tinghua and how that led to his development of his dragon Bāguà and maybe, through talking about Li Cunyi, more on Zhang Zhaodong and his mix of Xìngyì and Bāguà.
I know you're just making this documentary accessible to us, that it's not your own creation, so I'll thank you for that and also point out that leaving the hànzì is very much appreciated. I get to practice my mandarin with my favourite subject.
Hi! Glad you liked it. Actually if you want to know about Guo Zhenya's lineage check out the Bagua gathering videos I released, he performed there and I added a screen with his Bagua lineage's history. The allusion to Li Cunyi in this episode was mostly to talk about his warrior society which then was a catalyst for the Guoshu institute and through this is connected to Guo Zhenya, so not really an actual link Li Cunyi. I Agree, they could have done much more in that regard with this section.
