I'd hoped CP would repaint Dragster purple and rename it "UV: Ultimate Velocity". If you're effectively adding 2 straight sections at 90+ mph, it makes sense to sell the GP on how fast you're going. But I'm guessing CP instead wanted to remind guests how much of Dragster is staying the same. From the parking lot and entrance, the spike will *absurdly dominate* everything else around it. It's almost 3 TIMES as tall as Rougarou's lift hill! It's only when you reach the end of the main midway that the top hat will come into full view. And then the casual guest who hasn't been following any of construction updates can see the rest of the structure is the same.
Here's the thing though: they eliminated the part that flew off. The proximity plates that caused the accidents are no longer there. They replaced that entire system with a new, modernized digital proximity sensor system that doesn't require plates at all. The same kind of accident literally cannot happen again.
More importantly, Zamperla promised their new train design involving no welded parts, meaning either the whole train stays on or the whole train comes off, this is probably what saved cp from having to move the queue line as it eliminates the threat of any pieces falling off.
Something else definitely could still happen. Something could conceivably work itself loose and out. It IS machinery and therefore the words NEVER CAN HAPPEN AGAIN is speculation at best. Hopefully nothing will happen.
I think the park wanted to get rid of it and Zamperla offered to do the project at a very low rate to build their portfolio. CF as a company bought a lot of zamperla this past yeat
Another thing to keep in mind - Dragster's flat plate incident happened the same year CP closed Wicked Twister. This meant they could use the 2022 season to gauge how much the public missed it. So even though they were in discussions with Intamin, they probably decided taking a risk on Zamperla was value added because two launches wouldn't be an option with them. They'd be guaranteed a ride that reminds guests of Wicked Twister's launches while keeping the top hat of Dragster. Then, they'd only need to work with Intamin to the extend needed to maintain Maverick, Millie, and Wilderness Run. All while donating Wicked Twister's spares to Valleyfair! and Dorney. Not a bad deal, all things considered.
Ok take advice from a coaster enthusiast If the ride is high maintenance and doesn’t get good ridership they’ll remove it Hydraulic launches like found on the one on top thrill dragster are very unreliable but fast, while LSM what is found on the new coaster doesn’t need to be reset and is very reliable
The 0 to 120 in 4 seconds for me was the best part of the original dragster. This version just seems to be a souped up but shorter wicked twister. However, I do belive TT2 will be a good ride it just won't be as good as the first.
The accident was mostly just the final nail in the coffin for the remodel. The biggest reason is actual because they couldn't keep the damn thing running with the hydraulic system. I honestly think the remodel would have happened eventually no matter what because of Cedar Fair's shaky relationship with intamin and the horrible reliability issues, but the accident forced that timeline to speed up. I think the name was chosen because TTD was such a popular ride, they want people to still be drawn in by the Top Thrill Dragster name while still selling it as something different.
Its a financial decision. The ride is really gonna be costly to remove. Also the rides footprint isn't that big. The ride was popular and does have a high thrill. They did the best most affordable option they could... and we still have a ride over 400 feet. I think it's as good as it was gonna get. Let's go enjoy.
They're focus is no longer on the best and most high thrill rides. They've shifted their focus to resorts, lodging, and dining. This is why they have been going very cheap on the rides recently and not spending much in that department. They could have reopened the original.
@@alecscheerer_rundidn’t know that 16 million dollars is “cheap” as for the queue it’s 100% covered with impact resistant steel, the same used on the underside of cars, so it should be very good at protecting guests from debris.

Not sure how it’s a downgrade when it went from one launch to three and from a 17 second ride over 2 minutes. The people complaining are getting ridiculous at this point.
So a few points to make. The change from hydraulic to lsm. Anyone whose worked in a field with hydraulic systems in place knows how finnicky they can be. The littlest leak can cause a pressure drop enough to shut down these systems. Lsm launches are much more reliable as theyre just magnets + electricity. No pressure system involved. No valves, no massive rotating drum. No what was it.. 36 hydraulic motors? The downside of lsm is the power required for a launch equal to top thrills original launch is EXTREMELY excessive. So much so that the ride dubai that has an lsm launch that hits 112mph in 6 seconds basically has its own power grid with massive supercapaciters. The injury caused them to look into modernizing the ride and as they looked they realized there were so many issues that could be fixed and the culmination of the issues led to this revamp. The new trains will be lighter and require less maintenance as they will have 0 welds. Thats why they chose zamperla despite intamin lsm being a much more forceful launch (as evidenced when comparing motocoaster in darien lake to maverick At cedar point) Will this be a welcome change? Maybe maybe not. But it sure is a change that was needed for the ride. From a personal rider stand point, i look at it like this, to me the ride was worth it once per trip for the acceleration and then id go ride the maverick, steve, gatekeeper, etc all atleast 3+ times per trip. Now with these changes maybe the ride will be worth more rides per trip. Who knows tho
Those are all really good points! The unreliability of dragster was insane, I’ve been going since I was one years old, it was closed at least 1-2 times each time I would go!

They altered the ride because it was costly to maintain and no doubt a constant headache, particularly with complaining guests. They wanted something more reliable. People need to realise that the ride wasn’t closed because of the accident. It was closed because it was unreliable and a maintenance nightmare.
@@timothykaczmarek5871 accelerated it definitely, but it ultimately closed because it was a pain to maintain and even with the maintenance it did have; it was still a problem.
@Livinthecoasterlife Then in that case it should have been gone a long time ago since the money dumped into that thing I'm sure didn't do anything for their bottom line and was no longer generating a positive ROI. HELL NO. WHAT A STUPID IDEA. You'll have people LEAVING line and attempting to get back in line after peeing. This is still line jumping. Get all that done BEFORE YOU GET IN LINE. Who is going to shut the potties down during the day to clean them? Who wants to SMELL that, especially on a very hot day, the delightful smell of portable potty excrement. If you have to use the restroom, do it before you get in line. I'll be damned if you try to get in front of ME while you were in the bathroom then try to get back in line, sorry Felicia, it doesn't work that way. What a TOTALLY ASININE comment
My excitement level for this ride is about 3/10. First launch is super lame, can’t believe they have the nerve to call it a “rollback.” They also had a chance to blow the lid off the coaster world by adding new elements after the top hat. Zero imagination.
Honestly only bad part of the ride is the name. A bit clever but just not very creative. Obviously the he name isn’t a huge deal because they can always change it and it doesn’t really affect the ride experience
Some of your criticisms aren't particularly valid. For example the queue can easily have shielding to prevent something form hitting a guest, and the part that fell off is gone. I went on the TTD in 2005 and while it is certainly a thrill and the coiling up and down the nearly vertical sides but in a sort of cage was unlike anything I've been on... BUT I've never really been psyched to go back on it. So replacing ride 1.0 with ride 2.0 is a big let down. It certainly wouldn't be my primary motivation to visit. I suppose the one way it DOES make sense, is that the original was rather popular and unique and they can learn a lot of lessons from what was the most problematic ride ever. Your video is very thought provoking, but I suppose the thesis is unproven.
I completely understand that, I was going off of what I could see in the concept art, and until the ride is fully fleshed out, there’s still some room to speculate
Agreed...The name was super low effort...and and the spike is just a "gimmic" (gimmich, Gimmick?) I think a 500' second "top hat" would have truley made "a noise" in the coaster / amusement park world - I think this is a swing and a miss (no pun intended)
I think both of you are huge losers who make me hate coaster enthusiasts. Why do you have a problem with too thrill 2, but totally excuse lightning rod removing its launched lift hill? Hypocrites
The line will be covered. It was a freak accident and the trains removed the failure points. They tried to retain cost as larger projects are to come. This was to retain a very good ride and make it more involved with out taking up more space.
exactly, what’s the point of making all these changes instead of changing the two main problems? the point is to make sure it doesn’t happen again lol.
The queue is covered so they are protected. The ride was modified but also the cost were repainted so other rides will be added. The ride was not bad to start but it needed to be reliable. The spike will make it fast and more reliable. The name well the ride did not dramatically changed so it would be hard to to change the name much.
They used the accident as an excuse, the accident has zero to do with this. They used the accident as a way to try to cover up that they are doing this to eliminate paying maintenance costs for the hydraulic launch system. I think this is the biggest downgrade of all time. I honestly have zero excitement for this. Reopening the original was an option, but they decided to go the downgrade route instead. Cedar Point's best days are long behind them. Steel Vengeance was the last great coaster they'll ever open. I know, this sounds harsh, but it's the truth and the way I see it. Some will agree and others won't, but that’s ok.
the launch isn't as powerful. Unlike Dragster, which had that insane 120 miles per hour launch, Top Thrill 2 only hits around 70. You know, it's got people kind of disappointed, especially when they were expecting that same heart-pounding rush from the original. Some are saying it's because they went for a longer track, but sacrificed the intensity of the launch in the process. I feel like when they changed one thing, it led to many other needed changes. A very detailed project
Definitely!
Its just wicked twister taller and faster meh I could skip completely
Let me act like I know what’s going on
NO WAY ITS NYTERBLX
Everyone knows it’s the same ride so even if they changed the entire name we all know it’s still the same ride. So I really don’t think they were trying to erase any memory.. most people who are not coaster or theme park enthusiasts don’t even know about the incident.. I literally forgot about it and I’ve been to cedar point a few times.. new ride looks cool though… I think it needed a new update.
Because of the reliability issues
True
I know it’s already in the plans but I was really just hoping for a single rail. LMS launch is just like whatever at this point. I wish they would have added a smooth hill to zoom over at the end like Kingda ka, now that would’ve been cool. This is just meh to me.
That would’ve been cool!
Maybe the point is to turn a yawnworthy ride into a less yawnworthy ride.
They altered the ride because it was costly to maintain and no doubt a constant headache, particularly with complaining guests. They wanted something more reliable. People need to realise that the ride wasn’t closed because of the accident. It was closed because it was unreliable and a maintenance nightmare.
Actually it was a combination of both. The accident accelerated closing that maintenance headache
More of a liability and with the 3rd accident, I'm betting it was a decision of get it working more than it's current state or get it outta here. Can't tell you how much money they sunk into that POS each operating MONTH!! Surprised the stockholders didn't call for its removal years ago either. Each time that Dumpster was down, it wad costing someone money. It's going to be interesting to see how it will be next year. And couldn't anyone come up with a better name??
Complaining guests wouldn't make any difference. I worked at Cedar Point and ran the Demon Drop, and that stupid ride was down a lot too (Intamin btw--coincidence? Hmm 😒!), to the point that we called it the Lemon 🍋 Drop!! People bitched about that being down left and right. But when it DID run, it was a good ride.
@@timothykaczmarek5871 I think people just need to stop complaining of him being totally honest. That’s all humans seem to do these days on social media.
One thing i noticed when i was there this weekend and not just for t-3 but all the rides is they need to put porta-johns or some thing in queue lines. We were in line for Steel Vengeance for 3 hours and i had to leave the line and work my way back in to use the restroom.
Oh wow, that would be greatly needed!
Come on. Everyone wanted to experience the roll back, now we can will an extra thrill
My excitement level for this ride is about 3/10. First launch is super lame, can’t believe they have the nerve to call it a “rollback.” They also had a chance to blow the lid off the coaster world by adding new elements after the top hat. Zero imagination.
That’s true
It's not that they couldn't imagine it, it that they could pay for it!
Honestly only bad part of the ride is the name. A bit clever but just not very creative. Obviously the he name isn’t a huge deal because they can always change it and it doesn’t really affect the ride experience
Very true!
I totally agree. Good pun hahaha
I think both of you are huge losers who make me hate coaster enthusiasts. Why do you have a problem with too thrill 2, but totally excuse lightning rod removing its launched lift hill? Hypocrites
You haven't ridden it so you don't know if it's a miss. In fact, it's Cedar Point, so it won't be.
@@RA-hx9uc oh I will have an open mind and arms in the air
What mic are you using btw? Lol sounds great
It’s called the Jlab GoTalk, I found it at Best Buy, thank you!
@@CoasterVerse thanks!
Definitely
The queue is covered so they are protected. The ride was modified but also the cost were repainted so other rides will be added.
The ride was not bad to start but it needed to be reliable. The spike will make it fast and more reliable.
The name well the ride did not dramatically changed so it would be hard to to change the name much.
So.... a teen is telling the world what makes sense at what doesn't?
She has no technical or economical knowledge at all....
My goal is to always to make fun videos that people can enjoy. If you don’t like it, I’ll try to do better!
Top thrill 2 is such a lame name they shoulda named it dragster’s revenge imo
that’s also a lame name tho
Fake top thrill 2
They used the accident as an excuse, the accident has zero to do with this. They used the accident as a way to try to cover up that they are doing this to eliminate paying maintenance costs for the hydraulic launch system. I think this is the biggest downgrade of all time. I honestly have zero excitement for this. Reopening the original was an option, but they decided to go the downgrade route instead. Cedar Point's best days are long behind them. Steel Vengeance was the last great coaster they'll ever open. I know, this sounds harsh, but it's the truth and the way I see it. Some will agree and others won't, but that’s ok.
That’s very true! It does seem like cedar point has lost its classic, charming atmosphere of the early 2010’s and before.
the launch isn't as powerful. Roller coaster enthusiasts are a passionate bunch, and the weak launch of Top Thrill 2 has left them longing for the days when rides were all about those jaw-dropping moments. Let's see if it can live up to the legacy of its predecessor in the long run!
look at parks nopw. all parks now are dissapointing. This is probably the most exciting ride I have heard from in a couple years! @@CoasterVerse
@@Jimmylovessalt TT2 supposedly 0-74 1st..& Mav's 'y' to 70 does push you into seatback stronger! [too bad they didn't match Mav's to get a more decent RB!!!]! I've got 46 rides on 2 and sense 3rd launch, from stands ('y'-mph to 120., is right up there w/ Drag's launch to 120. TTD/2Ron@4695 (46 are 2's)
The new name is so lame
Agreed
