That part about wanting to cry while listening to everything but being too shocked to do so was so real, that little gummy man really had us all going through it
As someone who grew up in LATAM, the syncopation that you hear in Arriba is probably polyrhythms that a lot of our folk music has, as well as in some of the popular genres as well. For example, cumbia has a lot of sub genres and psychedelic cumbia, mostly known in Peru, has a lot of different syncopations changes and time changes as well. Another example would be Joropo, folk music from Venezuela and the northern region of Colombia. Sometimes the cuatro, a four string guitar for joropo, plays at a different time signature than the bass and maracas in many songs. There are far more examples but it is genuinely amazing that they actually used something that a lot of our folk music uses that isn’t mainstream, showing they did homework on it to make sure. Maybe because I’m familiarized with that kind of syncopation, Arriba is just perfect to me and easily top 3 songs in this album and I would KILL for a music video to this song.
This has to be one of the coolest comments I've ever gotten. Instruments playing in different time signatures sounds like such a fascinating way to make music. This context just makes me love it more
@@catchingteez omg thank you for saying that!! 🤍🤍 I really like how you go deep into the musical aspect of their discography and I wanted to contribute to it. Plus, I think it would be fun for more people to check out some of the musical genres I mentioned and more. You are going to love it!!
Personally, I really like MATZ, it’s so powerful and gives me energy which is a little unexpected because normally I donˋt like HipHop. I loved Seonghwas deeper voice and I just enjoy listening to it was more than I thought after the first listen. Thank you so much for your review and I love your comments so much.
We Know instantly became one of my favorite ateez songs. Ateez will forever be one of my favorite groups in terms of instrumentals and their bsides tend to be the reason why. Ugh it's just too good.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who didn’t recognize the “Aya ya ya” until later (even despite it being the only thing I could verbalize for like 24 hours bc I was so obsessed 🤡). It just has such a different cadence and flavor to it though, it makes me excited for future twists they might put on it. Like how every comeback I get so giddy to hear what Captain’s giggle is gonna sound like before he drops straight molten bars on us. And I just love that I can always count on Ateez and Eden to deliver something musically interesting and stimulating, from the lyrics, the composition, the production, BB Trippin with the visual feasts of choreo he feeds us. Just from top down you can tell everyone put a lot of work, care, and nuance in what was contributed. Every time I think I have Ateez figured out, they go somewhere new and somehow more exciting, and for that they will always be my undisputed #1 group. I mean sometimes Stray Kids disputes but they haven’t ever won yet so 👀😅
I was surprised you didnt mention woooyoung's rare vibrato moment in the second chorus of Silver Light!! They NEED to give him more opportunities for that because I'm obsessed with it just from that one line.
Been really looking forward to this review and really appreciate your insights! What I've noticed in this series is that as it continues, the autotune and vocal distortions get more intense as you move through it. Ending on WILL, which takes everything that they've been criticized for (being 'noise' music, overuse of chumeul chwo, hip thrusts, etc) and pushes all those elements extra hard. It feels like a mix of lore and them just leaning into what they want to do. And I think the skrrt skrrt skrrt in ARRIBA is them being absolute gremlins about it. I was in the minority of people who didn't expect MATZ to be Thank U pt. 2 and I was still very surprised. In my case, it was pleasantly though. Their flows were extremely creative. Hongjoong, said himself he was reluctant at first, and then just made the beat his b-, Seonghwa draws his voice from the depth of the ocean and the juxtaposition between the two just *chef's kiss* And to think that Eden went "hey what do you think about doing a love song ballad" and Seonghwa went "hey what if I do a disstrack with Hongjoong instead?"
Ok so I haven't seen anyone else point this out and I myself can't take credit for it, my sister noticed it, but in the scene where Jongho shoots the soldiers. Right before, they're playing cards and someone has the gun under the table and the soldiers have cards stuck to their hats. This is apparently a direct reference to a scene in Inglorious Bastards where they this same thing with the cards and the gun. I noticed the soldiers uniforms looked distinctly....WWII Germany (idk how RUclips reacts to the other words), and when my sister pointed it out I was like "ohhhhh that makes sense." I myself haven't seen Inglorious Bastards but I've been meaning to actually lolol
Omg finally someone noticed the inglorious basterds reference! I just commented that on the offical mv a few days ago and oh boy does that scene look scrumptious:)
@@a_teeny_tiny I've been meaning to make a video of like all their literary/tv/film references but there's a lot and probably stuff I haven't even caught onto. Like I said my sister caught the Inglorious Bastards reference.
@@catchingteez you know I didn't get realize The Ring was an LOTR reference for THE longest time? I never listened to it all the way thru for whatever reason (I think I was busy that release and I'd sort of fallen off with Ateez just cuz of my schedule so I really wasn't keeping up with them or their music), so when i saw a post being like "omg the LOTR reference" i was like WHAT????? I was shook when I got to the end of the song. I'd love if they did a high fantasy concept 🫣
Omg, you nailed it! I like it so much, how you not only share your impression and feelings but also add some deeper explanations. For somebody, who knows nothing about music, it is very interesting and educational! And I agree with you for the most part. ABSOLUTELY agree with you on autotune. I was so sad to hear autotune in some moments, it felt like we were robbed from hearing their clear vocals. But it grew on me, for sure. Yeah, I can't say it is the best album, but also I cannot choose one among great works they were presenting. Overall series were very coherent! Can't wait for the next series to start
I really appreciate this review because honestly I'm glad that I basically share the same views as you when it comes to this album (ARRIBA is not really my cup of tea and I'm more of an Emergency enjoyer but basically all across the board I agree with your opinions). Absolutely love the appreciation for Everything because that song had me on the FLOOR and just solidified once again why Jongho is my second bias, he absolutely DESTROYED ME with that song. Also thank you for calling Hongjoong a gremlin in the Crazy Form MV that was my exact thought process like who let this tiny man cause chaos hello???
I AGREE SM W THE AUTOTUNE it’s been really annoying me for a while. imo the album overall really branched out into a lot of different genres and vibes and i’m all here for it !! on first listen i loved silver light, we know and ITs you. rn my favourite is probably crazy form or emergency i especially love yeosang’s lines in the pre chorus of emergency. overall, a great album and i’m really happy w it !!
Gosh I love this comment section and reading everyones personal take! Sonically Outlaw is still my favorite album from them, for me the production and song construction on that album just gets under my skin in the best way. This one I agree with feeling like a few of the songs could take like one more pass before being finalized. At the same time this album I can't seem to stop listening to and storytelling wise might actually be my favorite. While there are songs I like more than others, the entire thing in order feels like the only way I can listen to it. I was into Matz, but I do wish they had each done more bars on it and I do agree that it stuck out a little where it was in the album, but I loooove that they used the outro to tie all the unit songs together (I mean the entire series as well), under the guise that all emotions are part of being alive (the outro has made me cry more than once, again, the storytelling on this album!). I love Arriba while fully understanding why it's not for others, I feel like I've been waiting for them to do more latin pop since Rhythm Ta (Awakening of Summer). Crazy Form has fully grown on me, but I'm always a huge sucker for a solid dance beat and learning that it references Nillili Mambo, one of my ABSOLUTE most favorite songs in all of kpop, brings me nothing but the greatest joy. Again, since Rhythm Ta (I found kpop/ateez during Kingdom if it wasn't clear, lol) I've been waiting for them to have their Block B style cheeky rebellious shits moment again, GREMLIN HONGJOONG FOR THE WIN. My favorite blink and you miss it Crazy Form MV moment though is Jongho casually pulling the gun he shoots from Mingi's pocket, like Mingi is really only there to hold Jongho's weapons. Anyways I'm into it, I'm into hearing other people's takes on it, I fell for them as a group in part because they do try out so many genres and styles and I decided early on that what I wanted from my music was either people doing things incredibly well OR challenging themselves with something new and they have yet to let me down on that front.
I liked the album overall. But my complaints are the same as yours. Too much autotune for my taste. Somehow it restricts their emotions in their unfiltered voices. The production and lyrics were very cool. More than crazy form, I actually like arriba more. About matz, honestly it was very intriguing, hongjoong's raps were awesome, I liked seonghwa's too but it feels like he put so much effort in it yk. (Well It's not a bad thing) IT's you by woosansang, idk what happened but it baffles me that they sat down in different rooms and collectively wrote a song about devil's tango. Like imagine, them showing the lyrics to each other, San:- smash? Yeosang :- smash *nodding* Wooyoung:- smash *nodding* And I was bawling over, both youth and everything.
I feel like it’s a good blend between Movement and Outlaw, like I can totally see Movement and Will(iam) songs switch places and it not sounding too out of place. I am a bit sad that they didn’t go as rock-y and experimental and M and O did, like it feels more like a safe card. But at the same time, there’s still some elements in songs from Outlaw that I don’t like, so I’m not super mad over the safe card? But William doesn’t leave the same brain itch and drive to listen and pick apart all the layers as O especially did. I agree with the autotune, I haven’t liked it in any instance (The Ring would’ve been SO elevated without it 😪), but at least they use it with the intention of adding style, not hiding flaws. Other than the autotune, my only gripe is that Dreamy Day and Crecent pt. 2 should switch places. Crecent would’ve made SUCH a nice bridge between ot8 songs and sub-unit songs, especially mentally after the first listen. Overall our opinions overlap a lot, from the skrr skrr skrr (which wooyoung used as answer signal in the wanteez (?) question show game I HATE HIM THE LITTLE TEASE (i love him)) to some of the songs needing another round or two before feeling finalised. But the album still feels whole and coherent, which can be a struggle with kpop mini-albums in general, let alone a full album, so the team does deserve props for that. Silver Light you are talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before. 100/10. My new breaking the speed limit while badly belting it out song. Absolute queen.
I'm also waiting for them to experiment more with rock because they keep saying they want to, so please please please give it to us. I saw someone edit Wooyoung's skrt skrt skrt in that gameshow over Arriba and spent a solid minute laughing before the realization hit me and I went "THAT LITTLE-" I also hate him (I also love him)
I love the album and think it was a very worthy end to the World series. My favorite songs are Arriba and Silver Light. And I quite like the direction the went with Crazy Form. Idk, the more minimalistic approach worked for me in this and created a nice contrast to Bouncy, especially in the way the chorus was handled. And length of both individual songs and the whole album...this is how it should be! That said, the album doesn't beat Outlaw for me, which may have less variety, but the songs just feed my inner emo edgelord like nothing else. I do think overall The World is their best series so far. It being over is bitter-sweet, because it's been such a great ride, but on the other hand I'm also a big believer in not dragging on a good thing until it becomes stale. Also, yes, someone take auto-tune away from Edenary, they are not using it responsibly. It hasn't ruined any songs for me yet, but I also pretty much always think it could be even better without it.
Silver Light has become A Favorite, the whole album is a Banger, everything is a beautiful song, it brought tears to my eyes as well.Jonghos vocal is beautiful, loved it.
I have been waiting for this review. As soon as I heard the instrumental teaser Arriba was my most anticipated but I totally agree the Skrrt Skrrt throws me off, I still enjoy but it took awhile to warm up to and my least anticipated was Silver Light first listen had my heart and is in a tie with It’s You for favorite track of the album. For It’s You Yeosang talked about how WooSanSang missed understood the producers and wrote the song separately when they were supposed to write together but if I remember correctly Yeo said they had a few days left because they were given a certain timeframe for the song and they found out it was supposed to be written together so Yeo said they all got together one night in his hotel room and wrote It’s You with just a couple days left to turn it in. Are we also possibly getting part 3 to Yeosang with this album?
Ah I thought for IT's You they wrote it separately and then mashed it together later. My bad if that was wrong. Unfortunately no Yeosang part 3, but I now have SO much more for my upcoming Wooyoung analysis
HOLY SHIT how did I not get that block b reference. Thank you so much for pointing that out ?! Thats so weird, I absolutely love that song how did I not get that
I beg you PLEASE do a full deep dive of Silver Light (my love, my life, the light of salvation…!!) and show us all the little amazing things the vocals and rappers are doing in this glorious and evenly distributed masterpiece PLEASE~~
18:21 me too. I feel guilty for thinking this but it's my least favourite on the album. I like it but just not as much as other songs 😔 Everything is my favourite song on the album. I didn't expect that. I still replay it whenever i listen to the full album. Love your video!! Also, i agree it is a bit of a stretch people saying that it's their best body of work. I saw a comment on Reddit where the person likens it to more of a gift to fans since it contains things atinys have been asking for and i completely agree with that.
Woohoo been waiting for your Fin: Will review! 💗 Sooo I guess a bit of an unpopular opinion, but the song that absolutely had me in its grip on first listen was Arriba! The vibes, the sounds, the impact of this song had me emotionally going places! loved it! The whole album is a trip, in a good way, not their best in my opinion but it makes me look forward to what they´re gonna do in the future! And I absolutely agree on the Auto-tune, not a fan of it, wasn´t too much to bother me but I def noticed it.
i like this album, i love crazy form, but if i had to rank the three albums then its Outlaw, Movement and then Will. Outlaw is just so good its very hard to surpass it
This album was definitely a grower for me. I loved Crazy Form immediately but some of the b-sides were definitely growers. I agree with you on the auto-tune but they tend to have those harder tracks they like to do the heavy autotune on (To the Beat, Leaders, the Ring, Don’t Stop although that wasn’t Eden I don’t think). I think it’s for that badass feel, but I’m never been a fan of the autotune for anyone. But I loved we got more even vocals from everyone! YS definitely has become sooo much more confident in his singing/dancing. And I’m 💯 with you on them ending the concert with Fin: Will. When they ended their last tour with the Over The Horizon outro, the confetti, then saying goodbye, omg it was emotionally beautiful! I’m so glad it’s one of the few things I recorded because it makes me happy when I go back and watch it.
we know , emergency , matz and youth are my top picks .The way I see the album as we know to silver light is where the movement series ends crescent part2 is them moving into the next chapter which is evident from how crescent part2 has this feel of the climax feel of a movie ending with an optimism. This is exactly the optimism dream day starts from and I take the next series sound vibe will be which is solidified for me with Fin.Will. The fact that the whole album is still cohesive is impressive Personally I love MATZ Because I love experimental sound's I loved how hj/sh use their rap. HJ did mention in the episode of idol radio how in the song they lyric 'they're noisy every day' is what people called ateez when they performed on k music shows. youth is your very classic pop song I know yunho never disappoints when it comes to vocals and in my country pop singers use their raw vocals in pop so mingi's for me were no different. I like raw untrained orgaic vocals when it comes to pop there is some so refeshing about it when it workd like migi's here. Its you can I say San's vocals are dam impressive here wooyoung/ys fit like a hand in glove with this. Jogho well is jongho he sings and he is well brilliant at it to say the least. Arriba man mingi rap is refreshing It felt like their playground and all the members were having creative fun while singing. The video to me makes sense when we keep in context the its lyrics, how ateez were mocked by the industry for their sound, performance for not fitting the stereotypical kpop performance asthetic and having facial expression , mingi lyrics and him entering his exclusives big kpop boys club the meaning lyrics when WJ twerks , how the industry treated them their metaphoric middle finger, Them owning what others called 'crazy form' and saying you can 'blah blah' we go up. There is ton of sarcasm and them indirectly calling out the kpop who mocked them ' We go up (Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah) 그저 맘대로 움직여, we go up' translates to 'We go up (Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah) Just move however you want, we go up' is essentially ateez you keep saying whatever ateez keeps going up. I do think with the title track they are trying to find a balance to appeal to their core audience and general public
i expected more of the chorus too but it was out since the beginning haha, took me several listen to love the song! and i rllly love the fun mv too!! and i like the slower sOngs from the album that are dreamy day and youth like i can hear it 24/7 :D
I actually did a lot of the things you did. I listened to emergency first, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would (honestly thought it was just going to be one of those that I forget about for a while then come back to). The toned-down instrumental of crazy form is actually something I really liked about it. It makes it a good song to hype you up, but its still easy to listen to and digest, which is personally more my style (I love easy-listening songs). Arriba had me in a chokehold (it still does dw), it just sounds so different than their usual songs, yet it fits them so well. I'm also in the minority that didn't like Matz that much, but I appreciate how it's a full-on diss track that we all need to hear at least once. The shift in tones between the first half and second half really impressed me, and I really appreciate the different vibes the subunits went for. Overall, very solid release, personally one of my favourites. It was one of the few albums that I put on while I'm studying without losing focus, so it really helps with that. Side note: When I tell you I melted because of Yeosang in this entire album, I MEAN IT. My guy got so many good lines in this album and I am so proud of him. I loved his vocals here so much.
So, I liked the whole album, made sense for me as a storytelling piece, so my takes, I also didn't like the skrr skrr but after reading the lyrics I understood why it's there, cause honestly the song is not the usual take from kpop on latin, they made a song that was seriouslly good and the vocals, the instrumental was just seriouslly awesome, but the lyrics tell you about a night that they just wanna have fun, ignore restrictions, etc... so you have Mingi rapping in a very unserious way talking about trying something different and that skr skr reminded me when they in the past had to contribute with a sound each for those comic shenanigans they do and someone put the skr skr as one of the sounds as fun and just got goofy. So to me Mingi's rap and the skr skr are to keep their funny take in a song that could be honestly seriouslly iconic as a kpop idol take in latin. Is trully like we put Ateez to party and told them just do whatever you want and have fun. Crazy form was crazy from start cause I couldn't process the song at first, the structure was so different, at first I thought that wouldn't stick to me cause didn't have that impactful chorus but yeah, after a few moments listening got stuck and is here and now I really like it. Sometimes I wonder if they research about how the brain works with music to decide how build things. Funny is many people that disliked bouncy loved this one and many that love bouncy find this one boring. The other songs I liked them alll no complaims I like Matz the chorus is my cup of tea. I didn't notice the auto tune so much maybe cause didn't sound too distorted to me, but I do wish they work less with it cause Ateez vocal color is my favorite. If I have to call my least favorite would be Dreamy day cause it was cute, but nothing more. Is good but not as good as their other songs for me. I loved Youth, I think fits Mingi and Yunho well, is simple is introspective and give u a bit of nostalgic feeling, is conforting but not cause is positive is cause is relatable. But as a full album they did great honestly we don't find a song there that we feel they only put to cover space, they wanted to try or to tell things and I really love that.
The album was so good and I’m so happy they did so many new things with it! My favorites are IT’s You, Everything, Silver Light, and Crazy Form. The only one I didn’t add to my playlist was Matz (you’re not alone in your feelings, Seonghwa’s parts were not for me 😓)
Every song on this album, I think, was super unexpected or surprising, but I can say that I liked all of them on the first listen, even if some of them are growers. When I first heard the preview for arriba I was honestly kinda scared. I always have a bit of a "oh oh, what's this gonna be?" moment when kpop groups start throwing spanish words around, idk why, but now it's pretty much the only song I've been listening to for the past two days lmao. Something about it just clicked into my brain and it won't let me go. Definitely not my favourite album of theirs, and I can totally see what you mean about the auto tune, but a very solid one that I will be listening until the day I die and beyond lmao
THANK YOU for pointing out Wooyoung’s highnote in IT’s You, i hadn’t even realised it’s him bc i hadn’t thought that much about it. it makes the song so much better for me (an active enjoyer of Mist that stems mostly from enjoying Woo’s chorus part) Crazy Form’s chorus sounding kinda empty was so irritating to me at first because i was watching the MV and i was like wait a sec where’s the chorus. But. the MV is CRAZY i love it, the camerawork with its zooms and angles too. Seonghwa’s parts had me on the FLOOR. Silver Light is a baby i feel so comforted when listening to it idk it rips me apart and puts me back together. Everything too. OhMyGod Jongho. tears in my eyes. like i would’ve loved to see him in a subunit, but he absolutely did his solo song justice and it’s just so. i’m not a ballad girly either but Everything is different. also love love love that we finally got subunit songs!! especially with how it’s mostly only Hongjoong and Jongho who get solo projects outside Ateez (for the others they exist but are pretty rare) MATZ was a surprise and i was kinda unsure about it at first, but now it’s grown on me also Mingi’s rap in ARRIBA irritated me so much at first, i can bear it now, but i used to dread the song just because his voice threw me off so much (i’m sorry about that Mingi) Crescent pt.2 is a really good transition into the second half of the album and, as one of my friends said “feels like a fantasy trip” (not the drug kind) also FIN:WILL i love it sm i love their story building/lore songs more than what’s normal anyways and this just tops it off for me. Overall i think this is an album that solidifies Ateez’ abilities, and i hope that their next series can bring together all the good points of the THE WORLD series and create something even more epic. that was a lot i had to say about this ohmy.
so interesting that you had a lot of the same thoughts about Arriba as i did! im also not a music graduate or anything but i do have some thoughts on it's structure and build-up. so for everyone ready for an amateur analysis of the song: i feel like when you listen to it, all the different elements of the song come along in waves that rock you forth and forth as the song progresses. both the drums and the piano and the "arriba!" and the "cucaracha" melody have that swelling and relaxing motion that just keeps you moving. but then the catch is that none of these elements are synced up and insted it's like a never-ending whirlwind of swelling that comes and comes but never actually goes. like in the bridge when you get the drums and then the arriba AND THEN SANS HIGHNOTE but then the beat kicks in and it just feels like a never-ending build-up. listening to this song is such an experience to me like you're on the edge of your seat for literally the entire thing. there are multiple things that i feel are expressed through this absolut mad structure: firstly it has sort of a hypnotising effect in which you are repeating the same motion again and again and fits incredibly well with the cheeky character of the song. it feels like the song is flirting with you and trying to lure you inluring,. additionally by keeping you on the edge of your seat and never releasing the tension it also actively takes control from the listener and i swear i feel trapped in the song a little bit. the scene this song sets in my head is of a dramatic waltz of high class people with a lot of political intrigue and power plays. just chefs kiss. such a pleasure to listen to. it's my literal favourite when songs manage to paint such a specific picture in my mind and it's also one of my favourites off of the album. only topped by silver light cause she is the moment. loved to listen to your thoughts on the album, you always have so many interesting things to say about artists and i feel like i learn to appreciate them in a new way through you! i'm really hooked on your vocal analysis series so looking forward to that ! ^^
I definitely got that same flirtatious and luring vibe. It's one of those songs where I didn't even need to look at the lyrics to know what it was about because it does such a good job communicating it through the musicality alone. I also love when songs paint a very specific picture in my head. I kind of think of myself as a visual listener if that makes any sense. If I can imagine an entire scene in my head while listening to your song, you've done something right, and I think that's why I connect with Ateez so much
I got into them with this album. We Know and Silver Light are on the same tier as good listen. Both because Wooyoung and Yeosang sing so much more, especially throughout the whole album. I love Wooyoung’s pre-chorus and his “I know” sounds soooo good. I live for Yeosang’s part in the bridge. The backing of it reminds me of O Fortuna, but not the opening of it, the part at the forte/fortissimo. The outro with Mingi’s and Hongjoong cemented this song as one of my faves. It’s so intense. As for Silver Light, I love that Wooyoung starts the first verse and is followed by Yeosang. Someone said in another comment section that they loved the part where Wooyoung scoops his voice upward and I absolutely love it as well. It happens about 43 seconds into the song. I heard and saw Crazy Form on a TikTok then looked up the album and saw it was released a few days prior. Took me two tries to like Arriba. First time I quit before Mingi’s part, the second time I was driving home and was passing a hidden cop so I was focused on that and Arriba was on and then Mingi’s part came on and I was like wow 🤩 I love how he’s doing this. I don’t know how to explain it, it’s staccato, bright(?), airy in a way because the flute in the background, and then we get Mingi’s regular sound for the last bar. It’s so catchy. I like how it flows right into Hongjoong’s verse. I need Jongho’s bridge imprinted on my brain. Especially the part where the background voices harmonize with his (I’m a sucker for a good harmony). Matz is also not my favorite. I thought Seonghwa’s voice was too forced in its deepness. I do however like his “pay” parts. The plosives are perfectly put 😉. IT’s You is my favorite track from the album BECAUSE it’s so sensual. I will keep saying that they need more songs like it because Desire is another sensual ditty that I absolutely adore, but I digress. I was so happy that Yeosang had an entire verse and he killed it. I like how in the first few phrases there is a beat where he pauses before moving to the next. Then he’s singing on the down and up beat with the “show show flow flow” part. To the lovely part where it’s the flow-y “airplane” section. It’s all just so well suited for him. San’s pre-chorus is one of my favorite parts from the mv and all he’s doing is walking backwards doing hand motions in a line with the other dancers (I’m also a sucker for ripples I guess😅). Wooyoung devoured the chorus and his high note. I didn’t realize it was him for a good long while. I thought it was San. I vibe with Youth as well since it feels really r&b. Their slow songs/ballads (except for Mist, it hits me in the feels) don’t really do much for me in all honesty. No hate or anything because the vocals eat every time in them. I like the album as a whole, but Ep. 1: Movement is my favorite of The World series.
So we've actually heard Fin: Will before...It was in one of the VCRs for the Break the Wall tour. But I feel the same way as you about it, I was so surprised by how it captivated me and I was like damn this is just an outro track. Silver Light is my favorite track off the album though. Within the first like 10 seconds I was hooked.
I saw that! I'm so paranoid about spoilers with this group it's crazy. I keep listening to Fin : Will and trying to pick out any new melody that might hint at the next thing because they do that all the freaking time
wow I am actually surprised but my opinion on this album is so similar to yours! Like, me too, I don't think it's their best album and I am a bit concerned with autotune as well; I am not a fan of 'Matz'; I was totally in love with 'Silver Light' from the first listen and I loved that 'Everything' showed so many different sides of Jongho's vocals! But I'm also not impressed with 'Arriba'. And on the contrary, I loooove 'Crazy Form', to the point that I have listened to it multiple times every day for 2 weeks now and it still doesn't feel overplayed for me. I understand how it must feel a bit plain or simple for someone, compared to other ATEEZ's title tacks, but I love the beat and the rhythm, I want to dance when I listen to it. My top-3 from this album are 'Silver Light', 'We know' and the title track. This is a solid album, very good work and I enjoyed it, but it still failed to top Movement and Outlaw for me. -And I would pick 'Halazia' over this entire album, I just love 'Halazia' so much haha-
Great review. I think I mostly agreed with all of it - I was expecting you to dislike Silver Light - but that did not happen. I also really liked the outro (maybe not as much as you though). It reminded me a little of Coldplay for part of it - but in a good way.
I’ve listened to the album all the way through 3 times so far and I’m still unsure of what I think of some tracks tbh. We Know, Arriba, Everything, Silver Light & Dreamy Day were instant likes for me (Silver Light and Arriba are my favorite). But I definitely don’t see this as their strongest because as you said, it felt like a lot of the tracks were missing one thing to make it really memorable. I also really agree that they need to put down the autotune, that’s the main reason I’m not really into Crazy Form specifically, I like the song but I’d consider it my least favorite title by them.
here goes my review which is quite long... you've been warned this album is my first comeback with ateez (I literally just became an atiny a month ago) and it's just so good, I love it more the more I listen to it. there are some things I reacted to in the same way you did: firstly, I also saw their mama performance and also felt a little underwhelmed bc of how I used to the final chorus I was but it got stuck in my head very quickly and I love it now. secondly, I also LOVED silver light from the first listen, it's just so pretty as you described it! and lastly, I also didn't like matz at first... I swear I was like ??? and I even ranked it the lowest at my tierlist but I actually ended up liking it after a couple more listens. other songs I love from this album are it's you and youth which I both loved ever since the first listen, arriba and we know. the rest were good too, specially everything which is so amazing even though I don't really listen to it a lot. emergency is cool too, and tbh I sometimes forget dreamy day is there bc I'm not really a fan of these kinds of songs (not just for ateez but in general lmfao, although they can end up growing on me). I have to admit I was really moved by fin: will and it almost made me cry bc it just hit too close to home. I don't wanna make this too emotional but every time I listen to it it makes me look back on my life: everything I've lived, what has brought me here where I am today. and it reminds me that even though there are bad moments of sadness and rage, there will always be happy feelings as well, and all that's normal, it's part of life and what makes it so beautiful... and I still can't believe it was an outro track that made me think all that 😭😭😭 but yeah um anyways. I still haven't listened to all of their dyscography so I can't say this is their best release but it is one I've liked the most so far!
I feel the same about Crazy Form and specially what you said about the chorus. I think I was expecting either a. The instrumental that they teased to be the chorus or B. Something akin to Fact Check's chorus. To compare, what I like about Bouncy's is that even if the chorus relaxes and doesn't have as much energy as the verses, it ramps the intensity of the song. The way that the chorus lyrics are so heavily punctuated rhythmically and Hongjoong's vocal delivery makes the song 1. not lose any of its energy and 2. making the song more intense while still managing to give you a reprieve of the "slap your face" verses (PS: As a Spaniard, I just found so funny how they decided to sing "La cucaracha" in one of their songs, it's so random😂. I legit started laughing when that part came in the preview. I'm also not surprised at all with the genre choice here. I have always thought that Ateez has latin influences in their music, don't know how to explain that😅)
to me, i definitely experienced arriba in 3/4, even with the syncopation (in hwa's verse at least) like the pre-chorus is what sells the 3/4 vibe with me, it's very waltz-y in feel. i think it's because of my marching band experience where i just perceive songs in a faster time signature than a slow one (a fast 3/4 versus a slow 6/8) esp as your metronome pinged it out as a 3/4 rather than 6/8 (i know you were doing the triples within but yeah) but i think you're not wrong either, esp as 6/8 and 3/4 are very related time signatures and it could be either or, it just depends how the beat is interpreted and i feel you can easily turn a 3/4 song into 6/8 and vice versa also, it was fun hearing your thoughts on the album! even if they disagreed with mine (i personally really loved crazy form even if my first reaction was exactly like yours where i thought it was too mellow until the morning after where i couldnt stop hearing it and while i understand we know's placement in the album/setting the soundscape, i think its boring to me? and that emergency does the similar things to we know but better). and don't worry i'm with you in not being matz's biggest fan (even though they are 2/3 of my bias line hwa being my ult) like i get the vibes and what they were going for, but, just like how i don't care for the leaders/ttb, i knew from the first second this wasnt gonna be my favorite song ever, but it's fine since the chorus is the best part and gets me hyped! and i appreciated how versatile hwa's voice is in this! also i immediately knew from the tracklist that it's you wasnt gonna be this feel good song like i was like "what if its i tease you because of the i t capitalization" and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW- like yall tried to fool me and IT FAILED... but i was still gagged by it because of how good it is. yeah its not the best atz album (i think i prefer the first full album and fever part 3 is my most FAVORITE album ever) but its still pretty good and i think the world as a series is all tied to me where i cant pick an overall favorite from them yet i've been watching your channel a long time but havent commented til now because im kinda a lurker lol but yeah just wanted to share my thoughts on arriba esp as it was my favorite song (yes even with all the skrts skrts) and the album as well
I always struggle so hard with the difference between 3/4 and 6/8 😞 How on earth did you catch on to the "I tease you" from just the tracklist??? That's some crazy foresight. I also find it interesting that you think Emergency is the better alternative to We Know, but listening back I definitely see how you get that. I also thought the chorus was boring when the dropped the teaser for it, but something just clicked when I heard it in the context of the full song. I also tend to be more of a lurker online, but I'm really happy you commented! Thanks for watching the channel!
@@catchingteez dw I feel like most people struggle with those two time signatures because of how similar they are! I basically just go by vibes for the most part (I kinda go by pirates of the Caribbean music when I want a comparison since two themes that come to mind for me are in 3/4 and 6/8 and have different vibes for me to compare to) but once again i think someone could easily argue either or for arriba. Idk how I guessed it? I think I just assumed that unit would do something like that?? Plus I saw the capitalized IT and just went to the abbreviation pronunciation and assumed the play on words (I love a title that has some wordplay) but I was just as willing to believe I was wrong and it was just a coincidence 😭
I know this video came out two months ago, BUT, knowing me, I hate every song at first and it takes me a month to settle so I had to take some time so fully digest every song before watching an opinion based video on it. SO 👏 Here’s my ranking: 1. Crazy Form 2. Youth 3. Everything 4. Silver Light 5. It’s You 6. Dreamy Day 7. MATZ 8. We Know 9. Crescent Pt 2 (it’d be higher if it wasn’t so damn short) 10. ARRIBA 11. Will: Fin 12. Emergency (it’s that damn chorus I’m sorry) Your commentary is always so great. It feels like I’m talking to a close friend at like a sleepover or something the way you say everything in such a chill way. I don’t expect you to be making this a business email, but your commentary is hilarious and relatable. When you said “I hate them” to the sneaky “I Tease You” in the title of ITs You, that was painfully relatable because THOSE LITTLE SNEAKY FUCKERS??? 😣😖
WE HAVE SUCH SIMILAR OPINIONS OMG. silver light (the best track imo), we know, its you, and everything are my personal favorites. crazy form and arriba grew on me. youth holds a special place in my heart because mingi and yunho are my ult biases. emergency is the only song i was disappointed with because after hearing the instrumental for the first time the thought of it being chanty didnt even cross my mind 😅 i expected it to be more like dune or wake up so i was really hyped for it. thats kind of my own fault tho i should’ve been more open minded to what it could be 🤷♀️ same as you the matz ending caught me off guard in a negative way and felt too different from the rest of the song but i liked other parts of the song. might need to listen to fin: will again just because of everything you said about it lol
I just 100% agree about the autotune. If I find that in the Outlaw album it is used rather well, they are clearly playing with fire and with my limits and it is so useless most of the time! I hope it was just part of The World era but I'm not very confident. But I also agree that this is the only small flaw in this incredible album.
This is true..... I hate the autotune in Ateez songs. I was an Exo-L before becoming an Atiny so, I was astounded by the use of autotune in their songs I really love the vocals of Ateez esp Yeosang and everyone literally, so I really hope they refrain from using autotune that much.
My opinions surrounding this album are actually pretty different lmao. I personally LOVED Matz from first listen, and while I acknowledge that it may not be for everyone, I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. I ofc loved Youth, IT's you and everything as well, alongside Arriba which is a song that I REALLY enjoyed on first listen, skkr skrr in chorus and all. Personally, this was one of my favorite albums. I acknowledge that Outlaw was an overall better album tbh but this was genuinely a really good time and for being my first Ateez Cb I will have to say that I freaking love Crazy Form lmao.
I must say im surprised by some of the things you said. I'm a little disappointed you didn't like Matz 😭 but I get it, I dislike Inception and I am in the minority on that one. I will sayz i personally find Outlaw to be a superior cohesive piece. It's one of my favorite works from them, I love every song on it. Here i didntt love every song but I'm content with knowing that others enjoyed what I didn't and vice versa. As for it "not being as good" i think its so wildly different from the usual kpop sound and that's why. My sister, a staunch metal head and disliker of kpop, actually enjoyed this album overall because to her it didn't sound like a lot of kpop and she could see them trying to branch out and she appreciated it. Both of us agree with your thoughts on the autotune tho. Plz stop using it so much eden 😭. This ch especially (the inkigayo stage HELLO???) they proved their natural voices can hold them up and no need for autotune (even stylistically)
I don't think I've ever seen someone say they dislike Inception 😂 But I (along with many others) definitely agree that Outlaw is better. That's really interesting about your sister!
@@catchingteez I should say I don't DISLIKE it, it's grown on me but I was a Thanxx supporter the entire way through and that was also my first ever cb with them which...I'm sure you can understand why that was an interesting first cb 😭. I don't think Inception grew on me until like a few months down the road. I prefer louder, more upbeat songs. Bombastic you might say. Which is why I don't usually listen to their ballads, I'm just not a ballad person. I will say, besides inception, the one title track I listen to the least is actually Fireworks. I can definitvely say I'm not a huge fireworks fan, I think I actually prefer the remix version. That being said they've never released a bad song imo, they've always got something new and it's 9/10 times a coherent piece. I AM glad we agree that Outlaw is an amazing piece of music overall. It's possibly my favorite cb of theirs to date. I really vibe with the cinematic sound in that entire EP (especially dune ✋😩)
Normally, I don't comment on videos, but I'm taking a break from uni work just like half an hour, interested into your analysis, cause you are really well spoken when you "it's going to be cute, but it turns out I can't trust these two either, because the lycris are depressing. GO FIGURE MINGI, THE EMO BOY," made my break from half an hour to 45 minutes, cause i was languaging so hard
For anyone looking for that elusive single frame, I would like to remind people that the < and > arrows go backwards and forwards frame by frame ;) I think I agree with most of the opinions here, especially the Arriba 'skrrt skrrt' thing. I think it's because it was actually vocalised? kind of? which I haven't really heard before and it threw me off a little to have it actually sung rather than as a kind of sound effect? I still like the song but yeah, that bit still stands out a little to me. Silver Light was my favourite right from the start, and I found things I liked in all of the songs, but any that I wasn't sure about as a whole grew on me the more I listened to them. I think it's because some of them were such deviations from their usual vibe that I had to get over the 'oh that's.... different...' before I could get to 'ok, I understand what's happening now', and then to 'I like this song'. I think the hard left turn at the end of Matz saved the song for me though. There's only so much forceful stamping-type energy (I have no idea how to say what I mean, but like, the 'I am the best' energy that the first part is) I can listen to before I need some sort of rhythm/style/melodic change to keep it from being overwhelming sensorily, and the change in Matz happened at exactly that point for me. And I also love Hongjoong's slight demotion from demon to imp in Crazy Form, but I'm sure demon-Hongjoong will return when he's next required.
shhhhHHHH you weren't supposed to tell anyone 😂 Wholeheartedly agree with the process of "that's... different" to "oh I get it now" to actively enjoying it. Just in the few days since posting this, I've gotten further along that process with songs like Emergency. And I haven't even been streaming the album all that much. It just... marinates? And then I like it more when I come back around to it a couple of days later
@@catchingteez oh my god marinating is absolutely the word for it. They just kind of glue themselves to your subconscious and then suddenly you're catching yourself humming songs that weren't favourites on first listen but now suddenly they... are?
I completely agree on the auto tune. A little is fine for effect here and there, but they have great voices that I really want to hear. I feel like it almost ruined Yeosang's part in Crazy Form. It made him sound flat for me.
Hi, I enjoyed your review even though I disagree with some parts. Sorry this is kind of long. Firstly, MATZ reminds me a lot of a Cypher by BTS or Tony Montana with August/D and Jimin. Not musically. What I mean is it being an actual disstrack with a main vocal rapping. Seonghwa's deep tones made me very happy and them talking about their saesengs as well as a little slap at the industry (scene from the video of them in a record store full of media that looks the same), made me appreciate the song more. I'm also not the biggest rap fan, but the hip hop I do enjoy is more hardcore, the kind that makes you wanna destroy things. Also the cocky attitude from both was just so refreshing. Perhaps the MV will change your initial feelings, but even if it doesn't I respect your opinion. I also have to disagree about Crazy Form. The afrobeat kind of reminds me of old dance/house music, so its meant to just enjoy. I don't think there's a whole lot t it other than making people get up and shake ass, but welp. I like it more than Bouncy. Even though I appreciate the former TT on Outlaw, that is the least fave in my book. While I do agree with the autotune, I'm wondering if its being used because the WORLD series is set in the dystopia. Thats only my guess. Now that they seem to be going back to world A, perhaps we will hear more of their natural tones. Like Paradigm is a great example of a song full of autotune, but it just fits. That's the only good thing I can say about Eden's affinity for it, when it is inserted, it makes sense. Lastly, I LOVED We Know, Emergency, ARRIBA, and Silver Light because I felt they were a great tie in lore wise with the last two albums. Although this one isn't as epic as its predecessors, the lyrics and different chords they've used just fit. You could insert any one of the aforementioned songs on the other two albums and it wouldn't be an issue. They're all different, but just tell a story just like the songs on Outlaw and Movement. I do agree with your feeling on Matz being misplaced. Such a weird thing to have it after Dreamy Day when we're entering the hopeful perky part of the story. Perhaps it should've been Crescent, Dreamy Day, Youth, Its You then Everything and Fin. MATZ perhaps right after CF so it keeps up the crazy? lol Anyway, Cm sorry for rambling. I enjoyed your thoughts a lot. I have more but I'll save that for my own dissertation later on. :D
I know I'm going to be in the minority here but while I don't dislike crazy form I genuinely think it's their weakest title track. And this album has been the first album in their entire discography where I actively dislike songs: Arriba (those skrr skrr skrrs were bad enough to ruin the whole thing for me) and matz. While I wasn't expecting thank u.2 I just don't like the track. Silver light definitely my favourite. Funnily enough this album is their most successful one commercially 🙃 I hope that doesn't mean we get more crazy forms instead of tracks like Answer or wave. I'm sure if those songs were to be released now they'd be hugely successful
MATZ is one of if not my favorite tracks on the album, but I actually hated it the first few listens. Hongjoong's part in the first pre-chorus is just too good. The pronunciation of whack itself just gets me, and the ending of the second phrase with that breathy upward tone on the last word sounds great. Hongjoong's rapping is obviously great but Seonghwa's grew on me as I listened. The chorus is catchy and fun, the instrumentals are cool, and the whole ending is very effective where they pull back at the "drop it" part which goes into the speaking part, and then, the song just goes kind of crazy after that which I love.
That part about wanting to cry while listening to everything but being too shocked to do so was so real, that little gummy man really had us all going through it
I had to LIE DOWN when I first heard it man 😭
"Gummy man had us going through it" is a phrase that I'm stealing for future discussions about Jongho 😂
Thank you for the added context
Thank you so much for your review and I love your comments so much.
silver light is the best track idc what other says
Preach🙌🏻
Silver Light is just so good!!!
I love Silver Light too. I never skip it when it comes on.❤
ATEEZ said Silverlight is Cyberpunk 2, and while I dont really get that, I did get that it was GOOD, Great even.
@priestboy16 I personally think that This World sounds like Cyberpunk more than Silver Light. It's mostly cuz of the song structure and instrumentals.
Omg I never caught that little vibrato there and now I'll never not notice it THANK YOU
Been really looking forward to this review and really appreciate your insights!
Hongjoong, said himself he was reluctant at first, and then just made the beat his b-, Seonghwa draws his voice from the depth of the ocean and the juxtaposition between the two just *chef's kiss*
And to think that Eden went "hey what do you think about doing a love song ballad" and Seonghwa went "hey what if I do a disstrack with Hongjoong instead?"
This album was so cvnty and I love it
Ok so I haven't seen anyone else point this out and I myself can't take credit for it, my sister noticed it, but in the scene where Jongho shoots the soldiers.
I always love it when people pick out all the various references that Ateez pulls from because it's actually insane how many there are
@@catchingteez you know I didn't get realize The Ring was an LOTR reference for THE longest time?
I like Youth. I love Youth. Youth is my everything! and then I watch the lyric video, and had an existential crisis XD
Right? I was writing down my initial thoughts like "wow this is so fun and chill 🥰" and then... my heart started hurting
@@catchingteez exactly.
I feel like Hongjoong radiates gremlin energy more than people realize so I now have evidence for my claims 😂
@@catchingteez true honestly, I've started to notice it more and honestly I'm here for it-
I AGREE SM W THE AUTOTUNE it’s been really annoying me for a while. imo the album overall really branched out into a lot of different genres and vibes and i’m all here for it !! on first listen i loved silver light, we know and ITs you. rn my favourite is probably crazy form or emergency i especially love yeosang’s lines in the pre chorus of emergency. overall, a great album and i’m really happy w it !!
(Well It's not a bad thing)
IT's you by woosansang, idk what happened but it baffles me that they sat down in different rooms and collectively wrote a song about devil's tango.
Like imagine, them showing the lyrics to each other,
San:- smash?
Yeosang :- smash *nodding*
Wooyoung:- smash *nodding*
And I was bawling over, both youth and everything.
The idea of Woosansang nodding sagely after going "smash?" has me laughing way harder than it should
I feel like it’s a good blend between Movement and Outlaw, like I can totally see Movement and Will(iam) songs switch places and it not sounding too out of place.
I saw someone edit Wooyoung's skrt skrt skrt in that gameshow over Arriba and spent a solid minute laughing before the realization hit me and I went "THAT LITTLE-" I also hate him (I also love him)
i LOVVVVEEEEEEEEE the interludes intros outros ateez has in their eps , albums , mini albums etc
and this album just JUST HITS
Thats so weird, I absolutely love that song how did I not get that
RIGHT? Went right over my head and I felt so stupid
I beg you PLEASE do a full deep dive of Silver Light (my love, my life, the light of salvation…!!) and show us all the little amazing things the vocals and rappers are doing in this glorious and evenly distributed masterpiece PLEASE~~
THE QUEEN IS HERE
18:21 me too. I feel guilty for thinking this but it's my least favourite on the album. I like it but just not as much as other songs 😔
Everything is my favourite song on the album.
The fact that the whole album is still cohesive is impressive
Personally I love MATZ Because I love experimental sound's I loved how hj/sh use their rap.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Also side note, I absolutely LOVE your analysis because I get to learn about Ateez (and music, in general) in a new way! ❤
THANK YOU for pointing out Wooyoung’s highnote in IT’s You, i hadn’t even realised it’s him bc i hadn’t thought that much about it. it makes the song so much better for me (an active enjoyer of Mist that stems mostly from enjoying Woo’s chorus part)
Crazy Form’s chorus sounding kinda empty was so irritating to me at first because i was watching the MV and i was like wait a sec where’s the chorus. But. the MV is CRAZY i love it, the camerawork with its zooms and angles too. Seonghwa’s parts had me on the FLOOR.
Silver Light is a baby i feel so comforted when listening to it idk it rips me apart and puts me back together. Everything too. OhMyGod Jongho. tears in my eyes. like i would’ve loved to see him in a subunit, but he absolutely did his solo song justice and it’s just so. i’m not a ballad girly either but Everything is different.
also love love love that we finally got subunit songs!! especially with how it’s mostly only Hongjoong and Jongho who get solo projects outside Ateez (for the others they exist but are pretty rare)
MATZ was a surprise and i was kinda unsure about it at first, but now it’s grown on me
also Mingi’s rap in ARRIBA irritated me so much at first, i can bear it now, but i used to dread the song just because his voice threw me off so much (i’m sorry about that Mingi)
Crescent pt.2 is a really good transition into the second half of the album and, as one of my friends said “feels like a fantasy trip” (not the drug kind)
also FIN:WILL i love it sm i love their story building/lore songs more than what’s normal anyways and this just tops it off for me.
Overall i think this is an album that solidifies Ateez’ abilities, and i hope that their next series can bring together all the good points of the THE WORLD series and create something even more epic.
that was a lot i had to say about this ohmy.
so interesting that you had a lot of the same thoughts about Arriba as i did!
im also not a music graduate or anything but i do have some thoughts on it's structure and build-up.
so for everyone ready for an amateur analysis of the song:
i feel like when you listen to it, all the different elements of the song come along in waves that rock you forth and forth as the song progresses. both the drums and the piano and the "arriba!" and the "cucaracha" melody have that swelling and relaxing motion that just keeps you moving. but then the catch is that none of these elements are synced up and insted it's like a never-ending whirlwind of swelling that comes and comes but never actually goes. like in the bridge when you get the drums and then the arriba AND THEN SANS HIGHNOTE but then the beat kicks in and it just feels like a never-ending build-up. listening to this song is such an experience to me like you're on the edge of your seat for literally the entire thing.
there are multiple things that i feel are expressed through this absolut mad structure:
firstly it has sort of a hypnotising effect in which you are repeating the same motion again and again and fits incredibly well with the cheeky character of the song. it feels like the song is flirting with you and trying to lure you inluring,.
additionally by keeping you on the edge of your seat and never releasing the tension it also actively takes control from the listener and i swear i feel trapped in the song a little bit.
the scene this song sets in my head is of a dramatic waltz of high class people with a lot of political intrigue and power plays. just chefs kiss. such a pleasure to listen to.
it's my literal favourite when songs manage to paint such a specific picture in my mind and it's also one of my favourites off of the album. only topped by silver light cause she is the moment.
loved to listen to your thoughts on the album, you always have so many interesting things to say about artists and i feel like i learn to appreciate them in a new way through you!
i'm really hooked on your vocal analysis series so looking forward to that !
If I can imagine an entire scene in my head while listening to your song, you've done something right, and I think that's why I connect with Ateez so much
YES, and jongho is the narrator. He’s like Nick from gatsby lmao
-And I would pick 'Halazia' over this entire album, I just love 'Halazia' so much haha-
Halazia is an underappreciated QUEEN
Great review. I think I mostly agreed with all of it - I was expecting you to dislike Silver Light - but that did not happen. I also really liked the outro (maybe not as much as you though). It reminded me a little of Coldplay for part of it - but in a good way.
YES MY FAVE RUclipsR POSTEDDDDD
Yesss!!! We need an Ateez cypher!!! 19:15
Youth was my fav😭👍
I’ve listened to the album all the way through 3 times so far and I’m still unsure of what I think of some tracks tbh. We Know, Arriba, Everything, Silver Light & Dreamy Day were instant likes for me (Silver Light and Arriba are my favorite). But I definitely don’t see this as their strongest because as you said, it felt like a lot of the tracks were missing one thing to make it really memorable. I also really agree that they need to put down the autotune, that’s the main reason I’m not really into Crazy Form specifically, I like the song but I’d consider it my least favorite title by them.
here goes my review which is quite long... you've been warned
this album is my first comeback with ateez (I literally just became an atiny a month ago) and it's just so good, I love it more the more I listen to it.
there are some things I reacted to in the same way you did: firstly, I also saw their mama performance and also felt a little underwhelmed bc of how I used to the final chorus I was but it got stuck in my head very quickly and I love it now. secondly, I also LOVED silver light from the first listen, it's just so pretty as you described it! and lastly, I also didn't like matz at first...
The way that the chorus lyrics are so heavily punctuated rhythmically and Hongjoong's vocal delivery makes the song 1. not lose any of its energy and 2. making the song more intense while still managing to give you a reprieve of the "slap your face" verses
(PS: As a Spaniard, I just found so funny how they decided to sing "La cucaracha" in one of their songs, it's so random😂. I legit started laughing when that part came in the preview.
I'm also not surprised at all with the genre choice here. I have always thought that Ateez has latin influences in their music, don't know how to explain that😅)
to me, i definitely experienced arriba in 3/4, even with the syncopation (in hwa's verse at least) like the pre-chorus is what sells the 3/4 vibe with me, it's very waltz-y in feel. i think it's because of my marching band experience where i just perceive songs in a faster time signature than a slow one (a fast 3/4 versus a slow 6/8) esp as your metronome pinged it out as a 3/4 rather than 6/8 (i know you were doing the triples within but yeah) but i think you're not wrong either, esp as 6/8 and 3/4 are very related time signatures and it could be either or, it just depends how the beat is interpreted and i feel you can easily turn a 3/4 song into 6/8 and vice versa
also, it was fun hearing your thoughts on the album! even if they disagreed with mine (i personally really loved crazy form even if my first reaction was exactly like yours where i thought it was too mellow until the morning after where i couldnt stop hearing it and while i understand we know's placement in the album/setting the soundscape, i think its boring to me? and that emergency does the similar things to we know but better). and don't worry i'm with you in not being matz's biggest fan (even though they are 2/3 of my bias line hwa being my ult) like i get the vibes and what they were going for, but, just like how i don't care for the leaders/ttb, i knew from the first second this wasnt gonna be my favorite song ever, but it's fine since the chorus is the best part and gets me hyped! and i appreciated how versatile hwa's voice is in this!
also i immediately knew from the tracklist that it's you wasnt gonna be this feel good song like i was like "what if its i tease you because of the i t capitalization" and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW- like yall tried to fool me and IT FAILED... but i was still gagged by it because of how good it is.
yeah its not the best atz album (i think i prefer the first full album and fever part 3 is my most FAVORITE album ever) but its still pretty good and i think the world as a series is all tied to me where i cant pick an overall favorite from them yet
i've been watching your channel a long time but havent commented til now because im kinda a lurker lol but yeah just wanted to share my thoughts on arriba esp as it was my favorite song (yes even with all the skrts skrts) and the album as well
I always struggle so hard with the difference between 3/4 and 6/8 😞
How on earth did you catch on to the "I tease you" from just the tracklist???
God I could talk abt what we know did to me for hours and how set me up to enjoy and appreciate the rest of of the album.
when listening to your dreamy day review that oneuleun eottae song start playing in my head
I know this video came out two months ago, BUT, knowing me, I hate every song at first and it takes me a month to settle so I had to take some time so fully digest every song before watching an opinion based video on it. SO 👏
Here’s my ranking:
1. Crazy Form
2. Youth
3. Everything
4. Silver Light
5. It’s You
6. Dreamy Day
7. MATZ
8. We Know
9. Crescent Pt 2 (it’d be higher if it wasn’t so damn short)
10. ARRIBA
11. Will: Fin
12. Emergency (it’s that damn chorus I’m sorry)
Your commentary is always so great. 😣😖
somehow you were able to gather and verbalize every single one of my scattered opinions on this album! loved this review
I agree. We need a Choi Bros subunit. Also JongSang and Hongsang subunit songs.
Also, Yeosang finally got a falsetto in "IT's You"! I remember you mentioning in the previous video that you wanted to hear him do a falsetto.
we got the ITs you MV!!
btw loved your review
12:35 I am so glad, you told us this, cause I think you can hear it even without the metronome
I just 100% agree about the autotune. If I find that in the Outlaw album it is used rather well, they are clearly playing with fire and with my limits and it is so useless most of the time! I hope it was just part of The World era but I'm not very confident. But I also agree that this is the only small flaw in this incredible album.
Let's gooooo
I love MATZ like errrvgggghh
Wooo Silica gel is the next new jeans
This is true..... I hate the autotune in Ateez songs. I was an Exo-L before becoming an Atiny so, I was astounded by the use of autotune in their songs
I really love the vocals of Ateez esp Yeosang and everyone literally, so I really hope they refrain from using autotune that much.
The instrumental tik tak tok is stuck in my head
I love matz but i did like dreamy days by first listen
But i love Ateez i love their voice and their rebellious side❤❤❤
Normally, I don't comment on videos, but I'm taking a break from uni work just like half an hour, interested into your analysis, cause you are really well spoken when you "it's going to be cute, but it turns out I can't trust these two either, because the lycris are depressing. GO FIGURE MINGI, THE EMO BOY," made my break from half an hour to 45 minutes, cause i was languaging so hard
2:54 I don't know about rap either but I couldn't agree with you more. Mingi's rap in Emergency ended me!
For anyone looking for that elusive single frame, I would like to remind people that the < and > arrows go backwards and forwards frame by frame ;)
I think I agree with most of the opinions here, especially the Arriba 'skrrt skrrt' thing. And I also love Hongjoong's slight demotion from demon to imp in Crazy Form, but I'm sure demon-Hongjoong will return when he's next required.
shhhhHHHH you weren't supposed to tell anyone 😂
Wholeheartedly agree with the process of "that's... different" to "oh I get it now" to actively enjoying it. Just in the few days since posting this, I've gotten further along that process with songs like Emergency. And I haven't even been streaming the album all that much. It just... marinates? And then I like it more when I come back around to it a couple of days later
@@catchingteez oh my god marinating is absolutely the word for it. They just kind of glue themselves to your subconscious and then suddenly you're catching yourself humming songs that weren't favourites on first listen but now suddenly they... are?
D-1 is stuck in my head
MATZ perhaps right after CF so it keeps up the crazy? lol
Anyway, Cm sorry for rambling. I enjoyed your thoughts a lot. I have more but I'll save that for my own dissertation later on. :D
Hongjoong radiating gremlin energy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Life is not wonderful
Apex is a good song
Not the boy group
The rock band
