1:18 Grabbing the rollcage is probably the most dangerous thing to do while rolling. If the roof deformates where you're grabbing the rollcage your fingers can get stuck or even cut off. And if your fingers get stuck you can't even get out which can be deadly if the car catches fire.
Yeah but if your arms fly out of the car through the window or the windshield, they can get crushed, and then your lose an arm. Grabbing the steering wheel would be safest in this case, but grabbing something and hoping for the best was probably an ok option in this case
@@psychlops924 Grabbing the steering wheel is terrible idea as well, especially when it's too late to steer. The wheel will whip around and break your fingers/wrists. Take a look at some of the other clips and see how violently the wheel spins. You never want to grab a hold of anything in a crash. The seat belts and seats will hold you in place, you're not going anywhere, there's no need to hold on. The best thing to do is to pull your arms into your chest.
I was always told if you are having a big off/crash cross your arms over your chest and grab your shoulder straps as it will keep your arms from accidentally getting minced

Actually, head on might have been safer. You have the entire engine block to absorb the impact, plus the seat belts are better at holding you in place during a frontal impact that a side impact.

@@VlerkeDamne hitting the barrier at 90 degrees is way worse than hitting it head on. cars are designed in a way to absorb a lot of power in head on collisions. if you go in 90 degrees, you have not much crumple area so the deceleration is much higher which is way harder on the human body.

Bathurst is very underrated in terms of fear factor. Literally every turn leaves no room for error. Combine that with the climb up and drop down on Mount Panorama, it comes very close to the Nord for death defying racing.

Fortunately fires are rare, and the marshal was there pretty quick too. The driver can always use the on board extinguisher to buy time, and that will generally kill most fires that are a direct threat. I suspect it took longer to get out because there was no urgency - no point panicking and getting injured on the way out.
I was in a 9 car pile up on the highway during rush hour, I can relate to this. The paint from my car could still be seen on the highway divider for about 5 years after the wreck. Zero injuries. Chevy cavalier for the win.

Lucky that last car didnt catch fire. That would have been really bad for the driver.
Fortunately fires are rare, and the marshal was there pretty quick too. The driver can always use the on board extinguisher to buy time, and that will generally kill most fires that are a direct threat. I suspect it took longer to get out because there was no urgency - no point panicking and getting injured on the way out.

I was in a 9 car pile up on the highway during rush hour, I can relate to this.
The paint from my car could still be seen on the highway divider for about 5 years after the wreck.
