Thank u for admitting u struggle & don't like everything u create. In the world soaked in perfect social media posts, it's easy to forget
Love your helpful tutorials, keep making them please! The fact that you sometimes struggle too and simply admit it is very encouraging
I am SO happy this useful for you! 💚
Love seeing and hearing you describe your process as you go along. So glad you didn't scrap it. It makes the process seem all the more approachable for me to try. And reinforces the notion of not quitting but pushing through those uncomfortable moments/phases to gain confidence
This is a brilliant video for so many reasons. Thank you for sharing your inner critic commentary - it is so helpful to know that even someone of your calibre still has to deal with this. Secondly, I found it interesting to hear that your usual time for sketching is 2hrs plus. I had this idea that I had to be able to find, plan and finish an urban sketch in about 20 minutes all in. Totally unrealistic, it turns out! And finally, I loved seeing how you pushed on from the initial stage and kept adding things until it took shape. The final result is perfect for capturing a memory. Again, I tend to give up after the first ten minutes when the sketch is at its muddiest. So lots learned from this. Thank you!
Thanks so much Anna - it makes me very happy this may have inspired you to push through that "ugly stage"!!
This was fun to watch! It really shows that you can make something quite good with limited supplies and time! Thanks for posting the video!
Glad you enjoyed it Mary!
I think it looks great. We’ll done. And btw I often say of my work “I don’t hate it”!!! Funny. 😆
Ha ha! It's amazing we can't tell ourselves, "yeh, thats quite good, I like it" -instead we revert to, "well, i don't hate it" 😂😂
TSA, that's nice ,dig the sky and the mountain look with a sun going down..🕵️
thank you very much for this honest video ! It is so helpful to listen to our inner process and see how you try to solve the problems on the way, I really enjoyed watching😊
Background music is a bit distracting. Love how honest you are about your own struggles... makes you relatable.
I loved this! It was very reassuring and definitely turned out fine in the end. Guess it’s good to keep going even if it starts out a bit strange. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. It's interesting to see the whole process and how it looks really different when you add some details with the pens. It really came to life at the end. I am going on vacation in a couple of days and i was thinking to try sketching. I haven't tried this style yet and I have only picked up watercolor over the lockdown as art therapy, so i am not really good at it or anything. It is a bit intimidating to be honest. But at the end of the day if i really hate it i can just put it in a bin, or paint over it with gouache or something. Thanks for inspiration and for making it a little less intimidating :)
Glad this helped Gayane. Y'know, your sketchbook is your playground, not everything in there is going to be amazing. I know it's difficult when we see all these gorgeously presented sketchbooks on Instagram and RUclips etc but it's not really the point. I think I would prefer to have a sketchbook filled with many ugly sketches (in fact I do) than zero sketches and no sketchbook at all. Be fearless, make a mess and have fun :D
@@tarias_sketchy_adventures thanks !!! You are absolutely right
Love your videos, I always try and see what catches my eye first and work from there, it's usually something small like a postbox then it doesn't freak me out, however much time I have I just add to the drawing, it could only be 10 minutes or 2 hours but at least I've caught a memory on paper ❤️
That is awesome advice Kim! Happy to hear that's your strategy. Its a great way to not overwhelm yourself...
Hey thanks for this! I really appreciate your strategies and your self talk to work your way through your inner critic. I so relate! Really digging the on site sketching! looking forward to Eps. #2,
Thanks Beth!! All being well I am going to film episode 2 today - heading to a rooftop veggie growing school in Johannesburg....let's see what happens!
Thank you for sharing--thank you for bring real about this--your work
is lovely by the way!
Thank you very much Allie!
I really enjoyed this! This is much better than anything I do, so please don’t beat yourself up!
Thank you Cheryl! I just want you guys to see that, no matter what ability anyone is perceived at, we are all uncertain of our sketching!! Ha ha. I'm not sure it will every change. If I was confident every sketch was going to turn out perfectly then it would be boring wouldn't it?
@@tarias_sketchy_adventures lol, you have a point there! :)
That was really good to watch, Taria - so much that I can relate to, right down to talking to myself to sort me out! And yes - I've been doing plein air for 25+ years and it's just the same. I'm glad you got through your 'ugly stage' (well. we know that every painting gets to that "I hate this" point at some point or another) and it came good at the end.
I did wonder if you'd notice that bit under the door of the right hand building and breathed a sigh of relief when you did!
Yeah - thanks for this. it's been really encouraging.
it was a fun show! Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great idea! Time challenge is really difficult, excellent result!
Thank you!
I love your honesty!
Thanks! I also have anxiety when trying to sketch outdoors in a limited time. I like how you video your sketching. Do you use a head mount for your camera?
Love your insights and I especially agree with preparing art materials to not consume more time and more to sketching. Nice art, esp the pathway ❣❣
Wow. Amazing video as always 👍🏻👍🏻
I’m so enjoying this and how you are you talking yourself through the sketch and painting. You have inspired me to give it a try. I can draw simple shapes. I’m so envious of people that can really draw. Just found your channel and started watching a few of your videos.
I'm so glad Bonnie! Just get going with it, don't judge yourself too much and have fun with it. Theres always another page and another sketch...if we don't start we can never get further...
Love this thanks yes it is a win !
You have inspired me to dig out my plein air sketching kit. I will be sketching tomorrow morning - although it's been a while since I have sketched outside. Loved the video though because our efforts are not always perfect 💜 they are always time well spent to learn and improve.
Yay! That's so great to hear, thank you Linzé!
Hey Taria, that was so cool to watch! Thanks from 🇨🇦
So happy you enjoyed it!
Really nice!

I love the moody sky background at the skyline. Happy accident I'd say. Bx
We don't learn if we aren't hard on ourselves and set high expectations for ourselves. When Van Gogh thought himself failing he'd lock himself out of the house to sleep in the freezing weather, starve himself, walk for weeks straight wearing out his shoes, hence the shoe pics, he'd beat himself about the back with a strap. Which explains exactly why a man who didn't begin to teach himself to draw until he was 27 began to see things in a new way. Nectar if you can't beat em, create a new path. I'll be honest, I thought van gogh a better artist as a child than what he ended up with. But that's just see. I see things as they are. Not as I pretend they should be.
I don't think van gogh was crazy at all. I think he was a true believer in the Bible and the suffering Christ and was disgusted with the hypocrisy of those claiming to believe yet ignored what he perceived to be God's word. Even his own syphilis riddled self.
