Just to be fair, this movie came out before Dredd, however, I think Dredd was in production for a year before this movie. So, it's genuinely just a strange coincidence that they both had a very, very similar setting.
Star of this movie Iko Uwais is one BMF! Edit: Yeah, very similar style and think this came out 1st. Edit2: Recent series Gangs of London The director Gareth Evans was involved in couple episodes. Great stuff...
Fun fact: The Raid 2 was written first, but the director didn't have the budget to do what he wanted so he made this as a proof of concept so he could get the funding.
Same. This will always also be a stand out to me because you’re realizing that their fight against Mad Dog totally came down to luck with that light bulb. Two vs one - yet they were totally getting their butts handed to them by Mad Dog, until that light bulb broke.
It’s singlehandedly the most influential martial arts movie in the last 10-20 years. Dredd, John Wick, Daredevil, etc you name it, all draw inspiration from this one film.
Dredd was filmed before this movie started filming. Neither movie influenced the other. They both started filming at almost the same time. The raid only 4 months later.
John Wick is more inspired by the classic John Woo film, and even uses the same gun fu technique, while for The Raid and Dredd both have the same concept because they are inspired by the first Die Hard film.
Not Dredd. Both movies were in production at the same time. It was just unfortunate for the Dredd crew that this movie came out first because a lot of peeps still think it copied this film.

The Raid changed the way fight scenes and action in movies could be forever. You can tell every decent movie after 2011 (ones like John Wick) got their inspiration from this. Please react/review it, I guarantee you will not regret it. Btw that movie also has all three of those badasses!! Always love your reactions!!! 👍👍❤❤
LOL..your reaction. The first time I heard about the Raid Redemption, using Pencak Silat. I was like, really, you're using Pencak Silat, and I wonder how brutal the movie would be. I am Indonesian and I did Pencak Silat in school only for 1 semester. It is beautiful but deadly. Imagine me going to cinema with bunch of my friends, watching with no freaking Pause button. Fights after fights after fights. It's beautiful yet deadly. I just couldn't take my eyes off of the big screen. In all the fight scenes, you know exactly the position, the left-right, as if you were there directly watching the fight. I was rooting for Rama for the whole movie. I wanted him to go back safely to his pregnant wife. And when the movie was ended, I felt so tired, due to the Adrenaline rush, I guess, seeing so many fight scenes.
The final fight baddie on this movie and the final one in The Raid 2 were the 2 guys that fought John Wick on the glass room. They were involved in the choreography for that movie. Also the music for this movie was done by Joseph Hahn, the DJ from the band Linkin Park
Incredible choreography, incredible cinematics, great music... in this movie -and in the sequel as well-, the blows and slashes make you feel almost real pain.

The way I understand it the raid 2 script is the movie they wanted to make but was waaaaay out of their budget so they came up with this ultra self contained setting. But then this movie blew up and they were able to do whatever they wanted with the sequel. I hope this group collaborates on something again. For the most part it seems like the director and the actors have all gone their own ways.
The martial art used in this film are called Pencak Silat. Practise in all South East Asia like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, South Thailand, Philipines and Vietnam.
What I like about The Raid is that it shows how much Rama could lose with his pregnant wife back home without resorting to some contrived plot twist that the bad men gets his wife as leverage because his brother was already in the gang.
You must remember this 3 names: Iko Uwais.. Jo Taslim.. Yayan Ruhiyan.. They play in hollywood box office action movies.. Best action movie actors from Indonesia..

The Raid was exceptional and highly technical but if you all that plus some of the gory action scenes ever in Martial arts film then I highly recommend The Night Comes For Us. OMG what a film!!! Please react/review it, I guarantee you will not regret it. Btw that movie also has all three of those badasses!! Always love your reactions!!! 👍👍❤❤
Raid 2 prison yard scene is a masterpiece
One of the best action movies. Just wow. Raid part 2 is great too. Do check out Oldboy, the Korean version.
fun fact: the guy whos fighting the brothers 2 on 1 is actually the stunt/fight choreographer
3:26 - "That was a LOT." I just love that that's after maybe the calmest part of the whole movie.
The final fight baddie on this movie and the final one in The Raid 2 were the 2 guys that fought John Wick on the glass room. They were involved in the choreography for that movie. Also the music for this movie was done by Joseph Hahn, the DJ from the band Linkin Park
Sorry but it's Joseph Trapanese and Mike Shinoda (the rapper) from Linkin Park that made the score.
the moment nikki started to freak out to the shooting scene in the beginning i already knew this was gonna be rough for her😂
Incredible choreography, incredible cinematics, great music... in this movie -and in the sequel as well-, the blows and slashes make you feel almost real pain.
Mannnn one of my all time favorite movies! Everything about this movie is epic with its jaw dropping moments on the martial arts scenes….just what gets me every time watching is @16:22 😩👏🏽🤭. Once again great review Nikki and Steven! Keep on doing great work! 💜👍🏽
Easily the most underrated martial arts movie that exists.
Underrated? It's widely regarding as the greatest martial arts movie ever made lol.
Both raid 1 & 2 is both the greatest martial arts movies.
WARNING: Hollywood don't touch this. It's a masterpiece, leave it alone. If u touch it, ya gonna Fuck it all up.
@@introvertindividual sadly they've had their hands on it for a while now. I've noticed a remake in the works starting a few years back.
It maybe the most popular martial arts movie series apart from ip man. You probably don't know what underrated means
@@mothermedusa9921 no... U lying.
Please tell me u lying. So.. the raid 3 may not be good or even coming out ever. I know I'm judging which I shouldn't but idk.
The one thought that ran through my mind watching your reaction "Wait until you see Raid 2"
NASA need to save this movie in "When Alien try messing with Us" Categories, just in case
The similarities between The Raid and Dredd really are coincidental. Both movies were shot and came out around the same time.
"....dude had a lot of heart" Now that's a reaction. U two are fantastic. I saw this movie when it came out and always try to get friends to see it who haven't. Keep em coming.
Love the "horrified but loving it" reactions. I think you'd really enjoy some Korean films, The Villainess and The Man From Nowhere are fantastic.
“The Witch part one” is also a good one
I like the man from nowhere but that's sad movie, and i don't like cry
Y'all are killin it with these movies reactions! Thank you so much.
i just love it when nikki feels the pain of others in movies :D
Mama has her glass of wine - love the nails:-) & Papa is just happy! looks like u had a fun easter :-) great movie, great reaction! x
Merantau, the one that started The Raid series is so underrated. Its not as good but its there and its a start.
Where can I find this movie???
The way I understand it the raid 2 script is the movie they wanted to make but was waaaaay out of their budget so they came up with this ultra self contained setting. But then this movie blew up and they were able to do whatever they wanted with the sequel. I hope this group collaborates on something again. For the most part it seems like the director and the actors have all gone their own ways.
The side of the Police Academy movies we never got to see but always knew was there.
Brother protecc ( 0_0)/
If you haven't seen Ong Bak yet, you should definitely check that one out.
Raid 2 & earlier Uko film like Merantau Warrior, both sick !
You must remember this 3 names: Iko Uwais.. Jo Taslim.. Yayan Ruhiyan.. They play in hollywood box office action movies.. Best action movie actors from Indonesia..
This film more mortal kombat than mortal kombat, me as mortal combat fans approve
Have you watched "Headshot" & "The night comes for us" youll see these familiar actors there too..another good action flick..another good one is a korean movie "Man from nowhere"
OH this blood fest. This is gonna be a good time. Here we go 😂😂
Edit: I feel like the scream at 3:00 is just a taste of what’s to come 😂😂
Edit 2: I’m pretty sure the guy who played Mad Dog was in John Wick 3 😂
He certainly was!!! He deserved it tbh
The name of the martial art they employ in Indonesia is pencak silat ("PEN-shock sill-AHT"). This movie puts it on full display and the great thing about the choreo is that they have Iko Uwais actually take hits.
Modern day action masterpiece
The intercom scenes with the boss talking to the whole block in this and Dredd could be seen as homages to the radio station in "The Warriors"
Best hallway fight scene? The original Oldboy.
IKO UWAIS is such a monster. Silat is scary as a martial art and he makes every hit look like a fucking truck.
Also Yayan is such a beast
