The Raid and the Raid 2 are 2 of the greatest martial arts action movies ever. This movie revolutionized action and inspired so many of the new movies and films out and coming out now.
Remember that in The Raid 2 there will be an actor that dies in The Raid 1 but it will be a whole other character. This was confusing for a lot of people they thought that this character survived by absolute bs but this is just a different character played by the same actor, keep that in mind when you'll see him.
I remember watching this in theaters with two of my buddies. There was no one else in there, but by the end of the mad dog vs brothers fight, we were screaming in ecstasy over how good it was. It's important to understand: this movie is why we have John Wick. There was nothing like it before it came out.
10:50 Because of equipment issues, they couldn't film this in slow motion, so the actor mimed it (the slow speed you see in the movie is how slowly he was actually moving in real life), and they added the slow muzzle blast in post production.
0:09 that throw into the stairwell and that back breaking landing is one of my favorite stunts in the movie. The camera and the sound design work so well to make you feel it.
I used to go to late movies by myself all the time. I had a choice between some other Hollywood film and this so I chose this movie on a whim. I walked out of the theater in complete awe.
I remember seeing this and thinking the main guy, Iko Uwais, would become the next big thing. I hope he gets more starring roles in the future, dude has the fighting chops to be a big action star
After this movie came out you could see the influence it had with hand to hand combat scenes all over. John Wick, Deadpool, Fast & Furious, Captain America Winter Soldier and Civil War.
The director of this & the sequel, Gareth Evans also produced a tv show called ''Gangs of London'', which is equally hyper violent. Imagine ''Peaky Blinders'' but set in modern day London, with all kinds of criminal factions fighting for power in the underworld & lots of violent action scenes. There's a shootout on a farmhouse in episode 5, which is absolutely insane. Evans also made a movie starring Tom Hardy called ''Havoc'' for Netflix, 3 years ago, but for some reason is hasn't been released yet. Nobody knows what happened and why Netflix doesn't releases it.
Made by a Welshman whom married his Indonesian wife that he met at Cardiff university. They decided that Wales was not a top area for an action movie director, so they moved to Indonesia instead. The martial art is called Pencak Silat which is the art of lethal strikes using elbows and knees. Somehow The Raid 2 is even more violent (and brilliant). More from this great director - Apostle (movie) V/H/S/ 2 (short movie) and Gangs of London (TV show) all of which are mind blowing. Evans' use of camera angles and camera movements in fight scenes will be replicated as soon as everyone can catch up.
@williamwalsh1533 that would all depend on whether or not the BJJ fighter can maintain control of the grappling. If not, the silat fighter would absolutely destroy them, if they can maintain the body control they are more likely to come out victorious.
I personally am really excited to see Chad Stalheski's Highlander reboot because Im very interested to see in his own words "the effort and work that went into the John Wick Series in changing the landscape of Gun Combat in film,we are hoping to do with Sword Combat."
Fun Fact: The main actor and Maddog have cameos is The Force Awakens as gangsters, and I got so excited we’d see them do some cool kung-fu fights, a little bummed we didn’t lol
Especially when they hyped up their casting before the movie came up,making people definitely hope that they would be involved in the Lightsaber Combat in some way.
Slightly OT but one Christmas Eve I was flipping channels at about 11:55pm and I just caught the announcer guy on one channel introducing The Raid with the all-time classic line of "What better way to start Christmas Day than by watching a load of Indonesian guys kicking the shit out of each other? Here's 'The Raid..." 😁
The Raid is the most pure action movie I can think of. 5 minutes of character development at the beginning (couldn't care less), and then we get to the ass kicking. the crew understood the assignment.
The greatest martial arts movies of all time. After seeing these movies it’s hard to watch the average kung fu flick. I watched both in the theaters. The sequel being one of my favorite theater experiences. Even with there only being like 10 ppl in the theater lol
The guys who directed this did a segment for V/h/s 2,, which is on shudder or DVD,, This is one of my fav films for sure Yaya is one of the fight supervisors as was the lead guy
I am happy that you two really enjoyed how well done the fight choreography was in this movie. Rama with a knife really gets things done. For Halloween I picked a well known mockumentary within the horror community that I am sure even the missus will enjoy.
Raining Madness wrote y'all that summary perfectly. Hallway Machete fight with the 2 floor tackle is my favorite fight here. Please watch the Raid 2, it's raidier :P
There's an XKCD comic where a character describes his idea for the perfect action film - about a minute of plot and the entire rest of the film is one long fight scene. It's a joke, but The Raid is about as close as any film could get to fitting that description while still actually being good. It's a few minutes of story to explain why there are fight scenes, or to let the pace change to prevent things from getting exhausting or introduce suspense, and then it's insanely skilled Indonesian stuntmen and martial artists absolutely wrecking each other all the way down.
U gotta put into consideration that the reason mad dog was able to beat up the little brother was the little brother was fighting the whole building by himself and he was probably running on fumes at that time
Such a great movie and the sequel is in my opinion the greatest action movie ever made. The car chase scene alone is worth the price of admission and is god tier levels of camera work. Cannot wait for your reaction.
Watch Armour of God with Jackie Chan ! Awesome action/adventure film with crazy car chase, a LOT of very solid stunts and two absolutely great fight scenes at the end ! 😎🌇
Those who watched this movie for the first time in Toronto International Film Festival 2011 must have had a quite shocking reaction about this film.. 👍
The 2012 Dredd film you already watched owes a lot to this movie. I really wish Dredd had done better so we could expand on that version of Judge Dredd.
Mad Dog played by Yayan Ruhian is my fave villain on this movie! Yayan also play in Star Wars, John Wick 3, Boy Kills The World and others (GO CHECK IT OUT). Very well respected actor and humble person ❤❤❤
you know the Fun facts is the film maker take the actor's almost have a basic martial art in real life include the crazy eyes gangster.. They research all of indonesian dojo to get them.
Don't miss watching the latest Indonesian action film The Shadow Strays which will be released on Netflix on October 17, 2024, directed by Timo Tjahjanto one of the best Indonesian directors
Raid 2 is amazing, everything is bigger , badder, better you will see :D so you definitely have to see it :D Amazing reaction, keep up the good work guys!!!
To quote South Park, The Raid 2 is bigger, longer & uncut 😅 You should def watch it, it's a direct continuation of the story and they expand on pretty much everything. The Raid 2 has easily some of the best stunts I've ever seen in a movie, not to mention that final boss fight scene. Omg! And that's all I'll say about it for now. Regarding Mad Dog in the sequel.... 😅
The Raid and the Raid 2 are 2 of the greatest martial arts action movies ever. This movie revolutionized action and inspired so many of the new movies and films out and coming out now.
This comment is not an over exaggeration. These films are EXCEPTIONAL
The Raid, The Raid 2, Unleashed, The Night Comes for Us and Chocolate 2006 might be some of the best modern martial arts movies ever made.
🤣
The 1st one did? I thought it was an underground film?
The movies from Tony Jaa, especially the Ong Bak series, you can see inspiration from the fighting as well in this movie.

That character was the father of the bodyguard, it was a personal attack which is why Uco was surprised by it when he came to see all the bodies.
@andrewvasquez1960 which bodyguard

@andrewvasquez1960 so he killed by own son?

This was great to watch in the cinema. Everyone came out with a stunned look on their faces going "WTF did we just watch?! That was intense!"
Raid 2 will blow your mind from a choreography point of view, best fight scene in cinema and amazing camera work. My favourite action movie by far!
@@scottmorey6212 Keep an eye out for The Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat-Man. The Raid movies made me a fan of Indonesia stuff

That little up and down stare at the start when he said “thats like me every morning” looked very personal hahahahah
I used to go to late movies by myself all the time. I had a choice between some other Hollywood film and this so I chose this movie on a whim. I walked out of the theater in complete awe.
If you like the Raid films, I highly recommend the movies "the Night Comes For Us" and "Headshot", and the tv show "Warrior."
The 2 vs 1 fight with Mad Dog against the brothers is still in my top 10 movie scenes of all time

Oh I love the scene in the subway car in part 2 lol. That was a brutal one for sure and made me think about hallway fight from the first movie
How would a practicioner of this martial art would fare against Brazilian jujitsu?
@williamwalsh1533 that would all depend on whether or not the BJJ fighter can maintain control of the grappling. If not, the silat fighter would absolutely destroy them, if they can maintain the body control they are more likely to come out victorious.
