I like 2 mostly for its meta-narrative about a Robocop sequel. You have the CEOs not understanding what made the original Robocop work, so they get a new person to come in and make a make a BIGGER and BADDER Robocop and literally call it Robocop 2. Meanwhile Robocop himself is getting criticised by parents and is forced to be toned down to be child friendly and marketable by a focus group.
@@JamesJohnson-tr1gu I wouldn't say it's bad at all. The sequence where ROBOCOP becomes useless because he gets reprogrammed to be more PC is a brilliant bit of satire for instance, that's only become more relevant in this age where Jerry Seinfeld of all comedians is somehow considered "too controversial."
Part 2 was more shocking to me, because of the gangsta-boy plotline. He is like part of the gang, kinda plays with the gangsta chick cause she needs a fix, then he gets forced to watch the torture and killing of that informant. There is always the childish component that breaks through here and there (like at the torture scene when he says to the boss: "You said you were only gonna scare him" - "Doesnt he look scared!?!!!!!!!!" - super intense scene), and then later he dies in robocops arms and you feel like so sorry because he had this violent upbringing, but in the end was just a kid. That alone makes the movie super memorable imo.

Absolutely not! First off NONE of them are worse than Robocop 3 and MGM forcing a PG-13. There is no universe where the 2014 reboot is anything close to resembling bad, awful or garbage. The worst thing about it is that it's toothless and they tried to play too safe with it. Its not some awful abortion like some "special" people pretend it is, if they were going to make it they shouldn't have tried to play it so safe. It just ended up making it generic and alright.

Robocop 3 is easily the worst, then Robocop 2, Robocop Reboot, then the original. Robocop 2 is only great in the last 20 or so minutes with Robocop vs Cain. Not to mention Robocop 2 really tones down the gore & violence plus it commits the cardinal sin of replacing the classic Robocop theme music from the original, like WTF were they thinking??
Here's a bit of useless trivia, in the beginning of RoboCop 3 when the apartment is getting hit by the wrecking ball the guy who plays the father of Nikko is actor John Posey who was the original Danny Tanner in the unaired pilot for Full House before being re-cast with Bob Saget.
Off the top of my head I'm gonna rank them: 1-RoboCop (original) 2-RoboCop (remake) 3-RoboCop 2 4-RoboCop 3 The original RoboCop is a certified classic, leagues above any other entry in the series. The RoboCop remake I feel is very underrated; I know nobody asked for it, but they made an interesting modern retelling of the story, with a premise twisted on its head at a time when advanced robotics and artificial intelligence are a thing in real life. RoboCop 2 has good ideas and memorable scenes, but they're stitched together incoherently, it doesn't feel like a movie, it feels like an abridged edit of a tv show. I think the remake is a better overall movie, but that's a very close call. RoboCop 3 is pretty much worthless. The only cool things in the whole movie are RoboCop's upgrades and the Japanese androids, but even those are pretty silly things, and the rest is just boring.
I think the remake is more of a generic watered down version of the 87 film. The original film is so much more interesting in the fact Murphy essentially dies and loses his humanity. The rest of the film explores Robocop trying to rediscover whatever bit of humanity he may have left. He's changed both physically and internally. The remake would rather try to be Iron Man meets Dark Knight to capitalize on the Marvel audience. Murphy is the exact same guy with a super suit. By the end of the film he's even watching hockey with his kid and giving loving eyes to his wife. It's stripping every bit of emotion from that original film. The only loss is physical, there is no "I can feel them, but I can't remember them". This just feels so generic rather than modern. I understand AI is everywhere these days, but I don't think this remake does anything new with the concept.
@@ZachFazio-v3y No, that complaint about it wanting to be "Iron Man" or "Dark Knight" or Tony listing what actor has been in what comic book movie before, are ridiculous complaints to me, it is WANTING to find things not to like about it. It's like you are ideally opposed to the remake so you have to pretend everything is a flaw. Is it "more of a generic watered down version"? Well yeah, the original was revolutionary and there have been lots of stories like that so the remake is now a drop in the ocean, even if it didn't have flaws (which it does). But it not THAT bad. It still offers an interesting spin on the "robot cop", it's not at all just a superhero movie. For instance, have you forgotten the part where they explain that he's just "a passenger" in the suit, and they're feeding him the feeling of being in control? That not only is a fun concept, but also raises questions about free will. Or the part where he sees what's left of his body and asks to be let die, with the doctor saying he can't, that creates a thought-provoking dilemma. Like I said, the remake spins the premise on its head, because the original had a company which was failing to create robots, they were all stupid and buggy, so they heartlessly take a human brain, put it in control of a robot and pretend like they've created the perfect machine; the remake came out at a time where AI and advanced robotics are a real thing, so the premise wouldn't work any more and they do the opposite: the company's robots are much more effective and efficient than humans, but the people won't accept them, so the company heartlessly takes a human, puts it into a robot and pretends like they've just saved his life while really they're dragging his remains around to ease people into accepting the machines. I'm sorry, but that's a genius way to do a remake to me.
@@KombatGod Nobody has to pretend that remake has flaws lol. Been well established over the last decade. I'm opposed to bad remakes. Big difference. Murphy isn't like Dark Knight lol? Hmmm. Painted black. Bat Pod I mean motorcycle. Doesn't the film end with him riding off on that bat pod??? Then you mix in Iron Man because he's just a guy with a super suit. And then let's make it PG13 so we can dumb it down for kids. Yeah, they clearly didn't want to make a Robocop film. Not even close. Disagree. It is THAT bad. And it's not an interesting version at all. It's an off brand Iron Man meets Dark Knight, not Robocop. Terrible villains as well. Dude you don't have to try and explain the movie to me. It's made for teens and not very good. That's why it bombed and Robocop fans like myself rightfully bag on it. What you just explained was even less interesting than what was in the film. It is such a generic take on AI. And you have to do all these mental gymnastics to try and tell yourself it's clever. It's obviously not genius because the movie bombed and 99.9% of Robocop fans make fun of it. I understand you enjoy the film which is fine but I will just say, it's ok to like a bad movie.....
@@ZachFazio-v3y Like I said, it has flaws, it's not perfect, but it also does things right, and still that specific complaint makes no sense whatsoever! You literally just said that it is like Iron Man because he has a mechanical suit and like Batman because he's dressed in black and has a bike! WTF! That's the most superficial comparison anybody could ever make! By that logic the original film too is a ripoff of Iron Man! It's a robot! His body is metal! What did you expect! It's ridiculous, you wouldn't say that about any other film, you only say this because you have to pretend everything is a flaw! In the original he had a cool armored car, here they gave him a cool bike. It's fine, there's nothing wrong with it... oh, but we MUST say that everything is bad. Saying that 99% of people hate it is false (people hate the idea of a remake so they didn't go see it, but a lot of people who did watch it often liked it fine) but either way that's a moot point because it doesn't contradict anything I said: people are socially pressured into not liking it, they convince themselves that a fine movie is bad just because so many people are saying it. It is the "groupthink" phenomenon.
You pointed out all the familiar faces but didn't mention Jill Hennessey as the new Robo-doctor? Also the OCP Rehab bad guy always reminded me of a British Steve Martin.
Tony what can you say regarding the rumored robocop reboot / batman sequel that would see your blown up stadium character from DKR rebuilt to hunt down the batman?
RoboCop 2 is so much better and smarter than people give it credit for. It has many short comings, but it's highly enjoyable and intelligent. It's the only piece of RoboCop media after the original that actually feels more in line with the original.
One of the things that aged the worst in robocop 3 is the fear of japanese corporations taking over. Some producer must have missed the fax about their bubble economy bursting, heck they had to sell back rockefeller center. That thing worked itself out without any outside help, pretty soon theres barely going to be much japanese and at this rate alot of cities there will be the new detroit but mostly old people
tony, two seinfeld actors in RoboCop 3 - Mr Kruger, played by Daniel von Bargen (sadly now decreased) and Stephen Root is the bank manager who gives $20 to Kramer 😄
RoboCop 2 is a great sequel because it's theme is that RoboCop doesn't need a sequel. They're trying to make a new RoboCop and continually failing, there's a committee trying to make a child friendly RoboCop, RoboCop is essentially gutted in the movie, and a child is one of the lead villains. They even name the antagonist RoboCop 2, a soulless attempt at recreating the original. The entire movie parallels the attempt to make a RoboCop sequel.
The remake was the biggest pile of shit ever. It made me angry in the same way the Predator movie did. I can't say that about many movies. Even no 3, as bad as it is, has some levity, which at least makes it watchable
I am kinda willing to forgive the bad make up in 2/3 because Weller was spending like 5 hours in make up (before getting the suit on!) every day for the first film
The ONLY spoof advert break that works is the "Magnavolt ad in the beginning (probably the best place to put it) in Robocop 2 it at least captured the black comedy tone of the original film, unlike the rest of it. It was a BIG mistake repeating what had been done in ROBOCOP in the sense of chopping him up, both because its already been done, & it looks visually stupid (the general sfx were less this time also than in the first film, thats obvious) to my eye Robocop looks like...a giant too shiny plastic toy it's not convincing as metal all that much, I'm glad they returned to the original colour in the 3rd film (which to me is an improvement, on the 2nd.
Robocop 2 isn't bad. The actress who played Angie (part of Cain's gang) Galyn Görg was also in Judgment Night (1993) as a baseball bat-swinging angry lady. That's a good movie that I rediscovered recently.
The robocop remake had only one scene worthwhile to me. And thats when he was shone what was left of his body under the robot suit. That stuck with me because it is genuinely horrifying. What they ruined was the plot, because it wasnt about alex murphy trying to find his humanity, he never lost it in the first place. His family knows exacxtly whats going on, he still sees them, they treat it more like a cop who got disabled and is in therapy for his prosthetics. That misses the entire point, which is why the story has no point or impact.
José Padilha's Elite Squad movies are fantastic, super gritty and ultra violent, so I was actually hyped when I heard he was going to direct the RoboCop remake. Then I found out it was going to be PG-13, and I just knew they were going to screw it up.
Robocop 2 was LEGIT awesome cinema experience & great dark-comedy popcorn flick during movie night with friends. I don't NEED to see another John Wick or Gone with The Wind. Variety is the spice of life! This is why so snooty, film critic bashers screw up feature films.
In Robocop 2, they missed a huge opportunity for him to reconnect with his wife, and for her to recognize him. Robocop 3 and the recent remake are very bad. Both are very lazily made. The remake has the exact same story as the first.
Not surprising to see Action Achtung Tom the Badass to review the reprisings of Robocop. Superdope, now let's together bug makers for a Robocop vs Terminator that's never going to happen...oh umm Screw you Tonni...um yea, Tony! 🥶👍
I'm picking the reboot as the worst. 3 is bad but there is still some fun. The reboot is just joyless and complete misses the point of what made the original movie so awesome.
One complaint about Robocop 2 that annoys me: It actually makes perfect sense that he's acting more robotic. The entire purpose of that scene at the station was to establish that OCP seen him being more human as a "faulty" product. Robocop's voice even cracks when the attorney is forcing him to admit that he's not human. They establish that this has been an ongoing problem between films and this is one of many sessions of them trying to dehumanize him.
The satire in Robocop 2 is the best part. The actual plot and story are pretty dull and unengaging, and there really isn't any character development with Murphy and Lewis.
I enjoyed the remake. I like the actor because I saw him in altered carbon. And it just hits all the right sci fi tropes for me. The original is the better film.
3 is no doubt the worst. Making it PG, ruining the visceral, brutal vibe of the first two films is bad enough, they killed off Lewis which was probably for best since she didn't deserve to be in this dumpster fire of a sequel, and Robert Burke was nowhere near as good as Peter Weller's Robocop both in the voice and facial expressions.
Remake is the worst for me. Wastes an excellent cast and has the most forgettable bad guy of the whole franchise ( some arms dealer dude, I think? ) 3 is bad but it has Robo fighting a ninja robot, plus Jeff from Curb Your Enthusiasm turns up at one point so I can’t completely hate it lol I reeeeeeally wish we could have gotten that Neill Blomkamp RoboCop movie 😔
The effects suck in all of black panther not just the third act. You can’t seriously look me in the eye and say “that car chase looked good” Black Panther was an all around bad movie and would’ve been the worst MCU movie if it wasn’t for phase 4.

3 is definitely the worst
Upgrade is a better RoboCop remake than the RoboCop remake.
Upgrade is fn awesome. Agree 100%
I never wanted to see Clarence die. We had the same problem with cops
The only GD thing redeeming about #3 is that it's so bad, it's good...😅🤷
The car chase in the pimpmobile at least makes me laugh.
🤷🤷
Worst part of Robocop 3 is the way they matter-of-factly killed off Lewis.
Robocop vs. Terminator should happen.. but they both die so we get proper reboots.
Robocop 2014 is great! What you talking about? Tony doesn't know.
I want Tom to autograph my copy of The Dark Knight Rises.
The remake was the biggest pile of shit ever. It made me angry in the same way the Predator movie did. I can't say that about many movies. Even no 3, as bad as it is, has some levity, which at least makes it watchable
THIS. The Predator made me so angry I headbutted the seat in front of me in the cinema at certain parts lol
RoboCop '14 is infinitely better than RC3 and The Predator
Robocop 2 makes me want to try Nuke so damn bad. It looks awesome.
I am kinda willing to forgive the bad make up in 2/3 because Weller was spending like 5 hours in make up (before getting the suit on!) every day for the first film
I love how much you guys truly get Robocop. It makes me happy
Wait, isn’t Django supposed to be in the continuity of the original Shaft? Did I dream that?
RoboCop also saved Pee Wee Herman from ED209 at the '88 academy awards. Fun stuff.
Gotta agree with him on the remake tho the business stuff was more interesting part
Lex luger was lex Luther on the local superman tv show because he was working in wcw/ Charlotte nc at the time.

You haven't done an "Is it just like the movie " video in a while
Im capturing footage for a new one

José Padilha's Elite Squad movies are fantastic, super gritty and ultra violent, so I was actually hyped when I heard he was going to direct the RoboCop remake. Then I found out it was going to be PG-13, and I just knew they were going to screw it up.
8:42 he was over programmed with a couple hundred ocp directives that he had to overcome. The story explains why he’s faker.
WCW had other ripoff Mortal Kombat guys to fight Glacier. You had Mortis (Kanyon) and Wrath (Brian Clark/Adam Bomb)
1:31:34 Still waiting for the review of the original movie.
I was pissed off that they killed Lewis in 3. I saw 2 first than 1. 3 is by far the worst.
You know SOMETHING tells me that second guy didn't like that visor too much...
Robocop should have led the Alliance during the WWF/WCW/ECW Invasion angle honestly.
RoboCop 2 still one of the most misunderstood sequels. Great film. Almost as good as the original.
Your cohost voice reminds me of John C Riley
3 is no doubt the worst. Making it PG, ruining the visceral, brutal vibe of the first two films is bad enough, they killed off Lewis which was probably for best since she didn't deserve to be in this dumpster fire of a sequel, and Robert Burke was nowhere near as good as Peter Weller's Robocop both in the voice and facial expressions.
Remake is the worst for me. Wastes an excellent cast and has the most forgettable bad guy of the whole franchise ( some arms dealer dude, I think? )
3 is bad but it has Robo fighting a ninja robot, plus Jeff from Curb Your Enthusiasm turns up at one point so I can’t completely hate it lol
I reeeeeeally wish we could have gotten that Neill Blomkamp RoboCop movie 😔
The effects suck in all of black panther not just the third act. You can’t seriously look me in the eye and say “that car chase looked good” Black Panther was an all around bad movie and would’ve been the worst MCU movie if it wasn’t for phase 4.
