- Vic Firth artist Ian Rosenbaum performs Jacob Druckman's "Reflections on the Nature of Water" (1986) for solo marimba. Presented here are movements 4 (Gently Swelling), 5 (Profound) and 6 (Relentless). Movements 1-3 are presented in a separate video. For more information, please visit www.vicfirth.co...
Druckman used Reflections on the Nature of Water as an homage to Claude Debussy, whose Preludes had inspired the young composer. It was Monet's painting "Reflections on Water" that inspired Debussy's "Reflections In the Water," from Images, Book One (1905).
Druckman likewise paints the musical text for the listener by titling each of the work's six pieces.
This is pretty sick. Definitely the best recording of this piece out there.
Hey,
I tend to use the VF van Sice synthetic core mallets (121-126) for the slow movements (1,3,5) and the VF van Sice rubber core mallets for the faster ones (2,4,6).
For Profound, I'm using slightly softer mallets than Tranquil (123s in Profound, 124s in Tranquil with a 123 in the bass). Crystalline uses harder mallets, still synthetic, and I use all 115s for Fleet (rubber core).
The most beautiful sound Marimba ever!
hey Mr. Druckman what the DRUCK
An amazing performance Mr. Rosenbaum!
Excellent sound quality and performance. Surprised this doesn't have more views
Beautiful music.
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!! I think I better tweet this!
Hey - in the last movement I'm using a Vic Firth M114 on the bottom and 3 M116s on the top.
I was listening to this in another tab and had to stop what I was doing to rewind it back to 4:50-4:54.
Thanks for the answer ! I'll order them ;)
Which mallets did you use for "Profound"? Are they the same as the ones you used for "Tranquil"? Also what mallets did you use for "Crystalline" and "Fleet"?
I've been told by many to use these mallets for this piece and want to make sure I get the best ones for the job. Thanks!
@TheQuadinator from low to high they are Vic Firth M113 M114 M114 M115
Can someone tell me what mallets he is using for the 6th movement (Relentless) ? I'm gonna play it for an audition and I like the sould =) Thanks !
This may sound strange, dont like the piece at all, but love this player and his performance, lovely sound!

What mallets are these on gently swelling? I am currently working on it and have been looking for mallets for about the past month.
