It needs to be emphasized that the child actor was never a part of the sexual scenes. Adult body doubles were used for the physical scenes, and filming magic used to separate the young girl from the sexually explicit dialogue scenes of which, she in fact, never takes part. Child psychiatrists were on the set, her mother was on the set, the lengths to which this child actor was protected are amazing, and it goes without saying, absolutely necessary. Now then, the film is gut wrenching to watch, and at times you simply have to turn away from it. But it is a very necessary film, and extremely well told, and well acted. Responsible people will watch it. Why? Because we owe it to the children out there in a world where pedophiles exist, and child sexual assault happens.
At first I thought it was the girl who starred in the Book Thief but turns out it is actually her sister! They look really alike. Very excited to see this movie.
BRAD PITT Sorry but HBO has received nothing but praise for this beautiful film about abuse that happens every single day. You clearly only want to see films that deal with flowers & unicorns, as opposed to anything authentic or uncomfortable or disturbing. Also, the young actress was not exposed to anything inappropriate. Adult body doubles were used. Do you boycott all films that show rape? It sounds like you simply can't deal with anything as ugly as this. Don't watch the film if you don't want to, but that's not gonna change a damn thing. Children are still going to be raped whether you decide to ignore it or not.
I just have to say - as someone who has been through what the real Jennifer experienced - that this film is not normalizing pedophilia. It exposes what is almost always swept under the rug because it's just too icky for anyone to accept. The narrative takes you though the very damaged perceptions you adopt as an adult and how you will even make excuses for the perpetrators ("It was a relationship." "I made him cry, he must really care.") I also must add that I believe Jesus would want these things out into the open so we can at least have a chance to heal.

Everyone needs to watch this. Gut wrenching
Why do we need to watch ANYTHING gut wrenching???

HBO will face backlash :(
Why will HBO face backlash?
for showing a child being "deflowered"

Did you even watch the movie?!
OK, now I seriously doubt Isabelle’s mother’s competency. How could she allow a child to be cast in such a horrible film?!
