Sexual abuse and even physical abuse is often not a black or white experience for the people involved. It's muddled with different emotions that are often conflicting. You may love your abuser even though they are taking full advantage of your vulnerability. That's why is so difficult to sort through certain trauma. It's often not a definitive or clear picture. Thanks for The Tale. It was a fresh take on an ageless topic.
This movie is SO IMPORTANT. Because parents can see warning signs and kids as well. It is also very informative about how our mind tricks us about things that happen to us in order to survive
00:35 “We have a lot of misnomers about sexual abuse and sexual violence in this world . . . Let’s embrace the complexity and the messiness so we can . . . help the survivors.” Well said.
The movie was hard to watch .. it wasn't just the little girls part. It was hard to watch Laura trying to figure out what happened. And those questions she asks to her abuser. It was one of the most hard to watch movies and I mean that in the kindest way.
I truly could not believe I was watching this film because it made me so angry. I never believed I'd been traumatized by a thing that happened to me regardless of how inappropriate it was. The film doesn't allow you to continue thinking that just because you aren't in pain doesn't mean you weren't abused. Sucks.
