  • Turn out range, strength, core control - these are only a few things you need an awareness of to successfully start pointe work!
    This short video should help with ankle stabilisation, strength and foot articulation.
    - perform in bare feet for stronger awareness of articulation in the feet
    - aim for smooth transitions between movements
    - perform en pointe once confident
    - I recommended 3 months of barre before attempting centre work
    - don't forget the accessory work at the end!
    ALWAYS consult with your ballet teacher prior to purchasing pointe shoes.
    The ballet class music used in this video is by Richard Maddock and you can find his amazing music on iTunes and Spotify - www.richardmadd...

    I'm an adult RAD student and have just started training in demi pointe shoes. I've been doing these exercises for quite a while and they have really helped. My teacher is always complimenting me on my feet so hopefully the transition to pointes will go smoothly. I'm 52 and it's something I've dreamed about from being a small child. Onwards and upwards!

    I finally got evaluated to pre-point at 16 years old and I can’t wait to attend the classes. They said I’ll be on ballet flats for a few months but I’ll be going on point shoes probably by the next season and I can’t wait so I’m hoping these exercises work out for me.

    I’ve never taken a serious ballet class but I love to dance around and get on my toes, but never pointe. I hope I can one day though.

      Hi Skyway! Thats fabulous that you dance for joy. However do be careful dancing 'on your toes' as without pointe shoes this is very dangerous. Work through the demi-pointe (these exercises) without going fully up on your toes! Happy dancing. G x

Just an FYI this exercise shouldn't hurt. Make sure you're not going up on your toes and make sure you're alignment is correct (imagine your foot being on train tracks and don't deviate from the train tracks!) I suggest starting with my 'Four Point Body Placement' barre... Let me know how you go x

    I have danced for over twenty years, not ballet. I am older and have had a few injuries but I am still able to dance but when I am at the barre I see in the mirror that I am not raising up on my toes nearly as high as I used to, I seriously feel like I am only lifting a 1/4 of a way off the floor. I have stiffness and pain in toes and I know that can slow my raise but I can usually push through that, but what can I do to strengthen my arches they feel like they have shortened, if that makes sense?

    Hello! I have pretty strong feet, very similar to yours in shape/arch/instep, but even if they're strong I can't stretch (point) them so much.
    A better line (and foot shape) is always a balance between strength and flexibility, so how do you stretch your arches? Any tip? Thank you and cheers from Italy! Sara

    • @BalancedBallerinas
      @BalancedBallerinas  2 года назад +1

      Hello Sara, you have to be very careful when trying to 'stretch your arches' (which I don't actually recommend) as it can lead to injury. Always (if possible) consult with a dance physiotherapist and communicate to them your goals. G x

      @@BalancedBallerinas I will ask to my phisio for sure. (I know you must be very careful with that). A lot of dancers (even professionals) actually do it,and in various ways, so I was asking if you know a good&safe way to do it. So do you think is not necessary and it's just a matter of strength?

    • @BalancedBallerinas
      @BalancedBallerinas  2 года назад +1
