224ce-K DLX
Fans of Hawaiian koa will love the look, feel and sound of this all-koa Grand Auditorium. A shaded edgeburst elevates the vintage appeal of the solid koa top, which is paired with layered koa back and sides, while a gloss finish wraps the body in a rich sheen. The Grand Auditorium’s musical versatility makes this a great all-purpose guitar for both strumming and fingerpicking, and the hardwood koa top will even out a lively attack to produce a focused, linear voice. Player-friendly modern features include a cutaway and Taylor’s ES2 acoustic electronics. Among the distinctive appointments are a single-ring faux pearl rosette in an interlocking “fishbone” pattern, black binding, Italian acrylic small diamond inlays, and chrome tuners. The guitar ships in a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.

Beautiful video. I love watching your guitar reviews. You're the only one that doesn't play the same old boring fingerpicking bluegrass like every other guitar channel. You have variety and play beautiful chords that show off each guitar's strengths and weaknesses.
Always love these videos. Sweet playing. I just come across a second hand 224cek and i search this channel first for reviews.
thanks buddy
Thank you for this review..
It WAS so helpful. I bought one yesterday.... Knowing it takes a few year's for the wood to settle is helpful.
Beautiful playing....
Ullisa Lindsey that’s great congrats and play it in health
That glossy finish is beautiful. As always great review and guitar playing Jarvis. Continue to review more guitars as we enjoy it as you do! 😊
I have one and when I jam with people it’s a head turner. Excellent review my friend. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Beautiful playing ! To me a 61 yr old beginner are inspiring !!!!!!!!!!!!!
David Lips don’t worry I’m only 50 and age is only a number.. do a search on my channel and I have about 8 videos on guitar tutorial
I have a 114e and think this might be my next one! It sounds soooo good!
Very nice! I absolutely love my Taylor 224CE-K DLX. Had it a few months now. Gold tuners instead of the silver.
Those gold tuners really pull the look altogether 😊
Tried the 2019 model at Swee Lee. Sounded amazing. In my opinion sounded better than the Taylor 7 series. Just something about the Koa.
chuckyinges Better buy it’s
I got to compare one to a 800 series that was twice the price. I agree, I fell in love with the warm sound of the koa.
I agree it sounds amazing. I have the 2019 version too. And it’s made in their Mexico plant, so it’s very affordable. And the quality is just as good as my Taylor 614ce built in California. The 224ce-K also has a narrower nut than my 614ce, which makes it easier to play as well.
Thank you for this video! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 This information is very important for me!
Beautiful Playing, Great video, Thanks! ;)
Beautiful playing. You should teach that wonderful chord progression and strumming pattern!

oooh nice to see another vid from you
subscribed. you are a gem. thanks for posting
I bought this exact model 2019 Taylor guitar here in the USA several months ago, but the tuners are GOLD. I wonder why they changed back to chrome tuners.
Mine are gold tuners also... manufactured in August 2019 and bought in December 2019. I think the gold tuners are newer.
Mine was manufactured in June of 2020 and has gold tuners
You are such a beautiful musician.
thank you .. the music made me who i am
absolutely beautiful guitar, beautiful music, wish I can play like you
Incredible guitar
FANTASTIC GUITAR, FANTASTIC VIDEO!! 👍👍👍👍👍
LEARNING 2 LEVITATE my pleasure

Beautiful finger style
You are the best.
Bohyeon Kang thanks for your kinds words .. I will work harder
@@TheGuitarSpaSingapore I am a big fan of you. Thank you for your great playing.
Bohyeon Kang my pleasure my friend
Beautiful.
Nice video What is the name of the first song you play?
What kind of saddle did you put in this guitar? And could you tell me where i can buy it?
I’d like to upgrade the saddle on my 224 as well but cannot find anyone in Florida who can make a custom fml saddle.
Get a luthier to do it for you
Why upgrading and what would be the specifications for the job? Thank you!!
SoundMaster CR better tonality and sustain. Just hard to get a custom one
@@gregbaker3701 Thanks Greg, what material is recommended? would it be at the same size but made of a different material? That's it?
@@gregbaker3701 I took it to the Luthier, he worked the saddle to decrease tension in the strings...it's a new guitar now, very comfortable to play... Thank you!
Thx
I find it twangy though.
What strings should I get. I want a deep full sound.. Any advice ?
I am about to purchase this guitar. I’ll try one in a couple days. Thanks for the great review and beautiful playing! Can you please share a deeper explanation on why upgrading the saddle? What specifications should I provide to the luthier to upgrade mine? Thank you!
beautiful guitar
Bluetastic absolutely
I got myself one of these from the US right before COVID lockdowns hit. My favorite guitar EVER! Check out some of my vids to see it in action.
I see two version of this guitar. Glossy and satin. Is there a difference other than looks?
I think the satin finish might allow the guitar to ring out more clearly as there's less obstructing the guitar, but it's probably very subtle. Just go for what looks best
I have the Satin (Special Edition), IMO the Satin has more range and I do believe it's the coating. I like the way the Special Edition looks more natural too but that's me.
How much this is gitar.
Kero Tiến check the internet
1500 which is cheap for a high end instument
I have to agree with Joseph. I played one and there's practically no bass, just high end and hardly any resonance. It's a beautiful guitar though, but that's not enough. You got to play it and judge if it works for you or not, to be fair. I do love Taylor' guitars though and own 2 of them, looking for another one.
Woodwind Rain50 buy what you love and like
Koa needs to be played often, for more than a year or two, in order for the top to start opening up. As the solid Koa top opens up, the bright, tinny sounds soften, the lower middle range frequencies start emerging, adding more bass and the focused mid-range projects better, becomes more and more resonant and starts developing harmonic overtones that sweeten the guitars' voice. Many all-solid wood guitars get better with age. Mahogany, rosewood, sapele, ovangkol, etc. improve somewhat with age, as long as you take good care of them and keep them properly humidified. However, Koa instruments have to be played a lot, and age, in order for the player to hear/feel the difference; and being that Koa is a hardwood, it takes longer for the solid Koa tops to open up, vs Spruce, Cedar, Redwood and other soft wood species that are used for guitar tops. Koa guitars reward their players for playing them often, with tone that keeps improving the more they are played. On the other hand, there have been many players that bought a Koa guitar for its' beauty, and then sold them cheap because the guitars' tone was way too bright. Many of these guitar players either did not know that Koa has to be played in as well as aged, or didn't want to take the time to play them in theirselves.
The all solid Koa guitars, that Taylor makes (and other brands like Takamine, Gibson, Guild, etc.), develop more harmonic overtones and resonance than the 224ce K-DLX because the 224s' back and sides are laminated and cannot resonate and open up like the solid Koa models (K24s', K26s', K28s', K66s', etc). There are always trade offs: In this case; the 224ce K-DLX, having laminated backs and sides, are more thermally stable than the solid hardwood Koa, and tolerate temperature and humidity changes better than the solid wood models. This makes the models with laminated backs and sides more appealing to some players that gig often, especially those that play a lot of outdoor venues. Don't get me wrong, many gig working musicians still favor the solid wood models, even for outdoor venues, because; barring any damage to the guitars, the solid Koa guitars' tone will continue to get sweeter with age as the Koa opens up and resonates more.
@@roadapple66 is the 200 Koa series still worth buying if a solid Koa option is too expensive?
@@Nebu1acrush Yes. The 224ce K-DLX is a great guitar. Some say its' tone is way too bright. It is bright, but Koa must be played-in to bring out its' best tone. It took me 6 months and 5 sets of Elixir HD Light, phosphor bronze, nanoweb strings to transform this into a beautiful tone machine. I did hear a major improvement after one month, but after 6 months of playing it in, it became a top tier, tone machine; something I really wasn't expecting. If you can, get one! Play it until the Elixirs die, and then change strings, repeat. You will love it, if you give it an honest shot. When Koa gets played in correctly, it sounds as good as it looks!
@@roadapple66 nice thanks! Which model do you have?
Noiceeee guitar
yes its a beautiful piece with a very sweet organic voice
What chords are these?
Specifically the ones at 6:00 to 7:00
Jarvis, answered for you!;)

Layered and laminate are not the same thing.
Way too bright and tinny sounding. Low end is non existent. I love the aesthetic but I won't let it brainwash me. I'll stick with spruce and mahogany.
Joseph Santana
Maybe the low end comes up when it’s plugged in....or overtime when the koa opens up 🤔 idk how it really works
I have this. The low end is amazing. He might have it turned down. I have Martin strings on mine right now. Taylors are bright so I typically use darker strings. On my Martin guitars, I use elixir to balance out the depth and darkness on the Martin.
@@vzeller what is your favorite string for this 224 koa? im thinking of getting
@@sugarlife485 I have elixir 80/20 on now. I like phosphor bronze as well. There is huge low end on the expression 2 system.
@@vzeller sounds good also unplugged?? thanks again
Hate Taylors. Hate glossy finishes.
This guitar is available without a glossy finish www.guitarcenter.com/Taylor/224ce-K-DLX-Special-Edition-Grand-Auditorium-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar.gc
Go make you a banjo then out of 1/2 inch mdf wood 😂
