Don't be fooled by the layered back and sides. This guitar has tone for days! I've had it for 4 years and it just gets better and better as the top opens up. Also, the guitar plays itself. So smooth.
I'm thinking about getting one but can't seem to find a place in my area to try it first, I already have a 214ce , does it have the same slim neck as the 214?
I picked up playing the guitar again after more than 15 years and bought a Taylor 224ce K DLX in November last year, and I don't regret it. Not only is it a very beautiful instrument visually, but it also sounds and plays really well. It's annyoingly difficult to put it down... I've been playing it a lot since I got it and know the 224 very well by now, so I was looking forward to watching this review. Your video describes this Taylor very accurately. Your demonstration also reflects the sound of this instrument really well. There's a lot of videos out there that are misleading in this respect. I really love the sound of this guitar, and I was especially surprised by the bottom end it has. Thanks for the nice review! I also enjoyed your demo of the Taylor 912ce WHB, which I'm planning on getting maybe next year if I can save enough money. I'm not sure if you also have Gibson SJs in your store, but if you do I would love to see you do a review on an SJ-200 Standard AN some time.
I have 13 guitars, Martins, Seagulls, Taylors and so on. This is the gentlest and sweetest sounding of all of them and the feel is like butter. It's unique in my collection in that it's the only one that sounds the way that it does. It just has something special all its own. I chose the matte finish after about a half hour of playing both the high gloss and the matte back to back. Weird thing though, the tuning heads on mine were not gold but chrome which I didn't like as much so I just swapped in gold Taylor tuners myself. Also put on a koa truss rod cover and ebony bridge pins with koa inlay to complete the koa overload. Oh, and DR Rare strings. If you haven't tried them, you need to.
Nothing else under $2K new- well under- is this good. Especially with a great hard case included. I looked at a lot of guitars. I have owned Martin and Guild. I like fingerpicking - not a thrasher. For volume there are better guitar shapes. Like dreadnought. Action is as good as it gets on an acoustic. This is a very different animal. Well worth checking out. And breaks in significantly.
I've had this exact guitar for a month now. I've been playing for thirty years and it feels like the first real guitar I've ever played! It has a tone you feel when you play it. The sound is unmatched by anything I've ever played over the last three decades. If you can afford this guitar you will NOT regret it. And I disagree about what he said about the volume - of it not being great. This guitar projects very well. The sound can easily fill a room. The audio from this video doesn't do it justice.
Holds up to climate and low humidity. Dry here in the Springs, CO, and it stands up well. My other guitars show ware from the dry weather. Maybe because the 224 is layered, and because koa is so hard. Difficult to tell, but honestly the weather here DOES NOT AFFECT THE 224....at all. Amazing!!!
Just ordered one today ,mine has polished bronze tuners , I don't know why, maybe it's an older model,I got a great deal on it,just woried for the koa top because of its sensitivity and hopefully not having to do frequent sets up because of the koa shifting.
I'm a bass player but love your videos. Very cool guitar! I want to come down to your shop some day and pick up a new bass because honestly- I'm gonna need one sometime because I use a bronco and a Fullerton p bass and sometime would like another to add to my collection. Also, I'm first! Also- tell Anthony that he rocks- and that I'm a huge fan😎👍
Same here, I really love both Joe's and Anthony's videos, they're so great at explaining the specificities of each instrument. Their love for great craftmanship is so infectious (their eyes really light up when they're enthused!). Wish I could walk into their store to buy gear from them… but alas I'm on another continent entirely. Oh well. Good thing we have their YT channel! :) Oh, and Joe, that was some beautiful playing on this gorgeous Taylor, really brings out both the warmth and the chiminess. Thank you!
Just bought one of these. I like it, but it's just a little short of the tone in this video. Can you please tell me what strings you're playing in this video? P.S. Former P'Burgh resident who lives in California now. I'd be happy to buy you a slice of Mineo's (still my favorite pizza) up the street for a response :)
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure the playing style is the reason. If I'm being honest, I think most content creators are doing a ton of post-production manipulation to their videos and not always representing the most authentic sound. Our videos are into a mic, into a zoom and straight to you. We aren't fabricating the tone. Thanks for watching! --joe
I just got the special edition a few days ago and have played it extensively. It sounds basically identical to the one in this video. Loud, powerful, bright, deep bass, long sustain. Plays like butter
I bought this guitar in 2017 and mine had Chrome tuners. My dad bought the same one last year and it had gold. I think they made the change about 2 years ago, give or take. I love this guitar!
When you buy one of these guitars, don’t see it as a new guitar. Koa trees are not felled, they wait while they have fallen naturally. Becoming a guitar from a Koa tree is a rebirth. Remember it lived before and has now been resurrected.
Is that a 200 series though. If it's a "K" series, then it's all solid koa. If it has laminate, then it's a 200 series. There's a more than 3,000 dollar difference.
Nvm, I misheard him. It's a 200 series. Sorry. I just bought a k224ce and was curious what other people said about it. I'm blown away personally. But I can't find much reviews that aren't trying to just sell them alone.
I know there are $300 guitars that will sound slightly less better than this, but the beauty of this guitar is just out of this world. And that is why you're going to be paying $1,800 for this
Don't be fooled by the layered back and sides. This guitar has tone for days! I've had it for 4 years and it just gets better and better as the top opens up. Also, the guitar plays itself. So smooth.
I was shocked when they told me it had layered back and sides, I never would've guessed. It sounds so amazing, I love the tone and look of koa.
Can’t recommend this guitar enough. Best explanation of the qualities of this guitar.
Proud owner. I absolutely love it!!! Everyone asks what I’m playing. Hands down a great buy.
I just bought one Wednesday :). Get lost in the sounds for hours
I played this guitar and pulled the trigger and bought one that day. You will not be disappointed!
I just bought one of these today and I haven't been able to put it down. Absolutely incredible instrument
I've had mine for 4 years and it's still hard to put down! The nice thing is that the low end has really blossomed.
I'm thinking about getting one but can't seem to find a place in my area to try it first, I already have a 214ce , does it have the same slim neck as the 214?
OMG, what a gorgeous instrument, and the sound!
Just got one yesterday! I got the special edition.. so it’s a matte finish. I’m so in love!!!!
Nice sounding 200 series guitar. Great demo, Joe. Thank you.
Sounds amazing
it sounds amazing

I love this guitar, i own one, and it looks as good as it sounds, and sounds great when its ran through a PA system so it has great pick ups.
One of the best guitars I have ever bought, even compared to guitars that cost 5 times more! (IMHO)

Is it holding up well !!
My strings are 3 years old and still hold that sweet pitch, the guitar is really made for the singer songwriter. She feels good too.

I tried one at guitar center and I'm dying to get one, planning on getting it as my present to myself.
Ahhhh, my dream guitar!! 🙈
Would love to hear you playing some beautiful Hawaiian slack-key music on this wonderful guitar.

Love the vids thanks
Wish I could go to your store irl
How did you record this as this is a very good representation of the real tone on these guitars
Thanks!
Great Demo!

Which one would you recommend me, that guitar or the 214ce dlx suburnst?
Does this guitar have humidity issues ? I am a sailor , I travel around the world, please help I am considering this as my first good guitar
I noticed this does not sound as “chimey” as in other videos. Is this due to how the guitar is played?

How's the Special Edition compare to this in sound? The Special Edition isn't gloss apparently and looks more natural.
I just got the special edition a few days ago and have played it extensively. It sounds basically identical to the one in this video. Loud, powerful, bright, deep bass, long sustain. Plays like butter
Mine has chrome tuners but much prefer the gold like on one of my other guitars. Any idea why? Like the guitar regardless.
I bought this guitar in 2017 and mine had Chrome tuners. My dad bought the same one last year and it had gold. I think they made the change about 2 years ago, give or take. I love this guitar!
I replaced chrome tuners with gold. Looks so much better!
Joe, Is Taylor going to discontinue this model? Thanks John
I have one of these. It is all that he says. Mmmmm mmmm good!
How much this guitar

This or the 314-ce v class
I wish Taylor would switch back to some American models with X-brace.

Also don't be fooled by what he says. This guitar is loud.
