When I have all my parts out and brackets everywhere.. I usually blast them with some paint.. Sometimes I'll even paint them bright colors; it makes it easier to see things when you're peering down into your motor bay later and looking for that cable and hose that you forgot to hook up. lol

Good idea. I thought about painting them but there was no rust... It is very satisfying if you have the time.

Why did you get down the sub frame?

    • @razenby
      @razenby  Год назад +2

You cannot lower the engine/gearbox and get it to clear the inner wing to withdraw it - The subframe is in the way....

Hi! I’m In the middle of reassembling the gearbox but forgot which bolts go where for the gearbox. I don’t suppose you know which ones (mainly the bottom ones) go to which hole?

    • @razenby

Look at the section with the gearbox hanging on the lift. The holes are colour coded. Selecting the bolt is pretty straight forward. The longest ones are for the starter,

Smashing clutch job and part fondling, Shame there was so much junk in the way.
At least you had a nice weather day and the birds were cheep with there advice :-D.
In warwickshire it would have been pissing it down unless i gave up.
Then the sun would shine (Sods law section 1, part 3).
Car designers should be garage mechanics before they design anything.
I did listen for the swear words, it's good to swear at inanimate objects :-D.
    "Life is a beech tree"
" A son of a beechams powder, with hot lemon.".
Can i have a first class ticket to Dot ing ham, Ooops wrong advert :)

There were more than a few few swear words. You can buy complete engine for one of these from a breaker for a couple of hundred quid. It is a Ford engine. Noticed a noisy cam follower after I thrashed it back to life. It isn't that bad with the engine cover on and the Bonnet closed but I went and heard it so now I know it's not right. This thing has a full service history when I bought at 80K miles. I should have known by the volume of invoices for bits that it isn't a real Volvo!!! I disabled the Turbo and took the car out for a test. It wasn't that much different, if at all ,until I pushed it so now I'm wondering if the boost is right.. Measure 20 PSI in the manifold so about half a bar boost. Hmmm...

@@razenby Yep you have to look into fixing the followers, it will drive you mad if you don't.. well can you get any madder :-D
For the turbo, i thought of the waste gate not closing fully.
I'm not into cars so i'm likely talking poo, but you pick bits up over the years.
My mates wife has a v.w golf i think, lots of vaccume lines all over the place and sometimes the turbo makes an appearance lol.
I knew volvo didn't design that car, not made like a tank lol.

Hi, nice video! I'm not a mechanic but I do have this car. What caused you to change the clutch? How did you know it needed replacing? Yesterday I got into drive my car, I put the clutch pedal down but there is no resistance, it does return when I lift my foot though. There doesn't seem to be any fluid in the clutch break fluid reservoir either. I'm trying to figure out if it needs a new clutch or if it might be something with the slave or master cylinders or a hydraulic leak somewhere? It happened spontaneously over a cold night it seems. 2010 1.6L petrol C30, 75k miles. It hasn't had a new clutch as far as I know and I've had it since it was 8 years old on 54k miles. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated 👍 Thanks!

Hi Stephen, you probably have the dreaded ford clutch pipe fiasco. This problem is covered in detail in the Volvo clutch problem video on my channel. It is usually due to a design issue with a very bad union where the clutch hydraulic pipe joins the slave cylinder. I would say that this is the weakest point of the whole car. I modified mine. Pointless cost saving.

@@razenby Thanks for the reply. I did see that other video too so I will make the mechanic aware of that problem. I couldn't get anyone to look at it for 2 weeks so I will see on Friday. I moved cities recently so I'm a bit worried about going to a new mechanic. I'm pretty sure it's a leak somewhere though as it had snowed and was rather cold the night it happened. Do you have any details for the brass fitting you made by any chance? I'm not a mechanic but I am a design engineer so if this becomes a persistent problem I would look into getting the fitting turned.

@@stephenworsley Re the clutch leak and sticking clutch pedal. . Hi, I fitted a QH Clutch Hose BFH5203 For Ford Courier Fiesta Puma 1095276. It is the old design. It is much higher quality, It has the correct all metal fittings, costs about a quarter of the price of correct part. It is a bit of a different shape but by bending it it can easily be fitted, will fit. No more anoying clutch pedal problems.
