I have some Lacoste pieces in my wardrobe. I paid $5 for each because I got them at a thrift store. They still look brand new, even though they're 30+ years old. The ones I have are high quality. Don't know about the pieces made today, though.
It's worth the price for me as well. Most of my Lacoste Polo Shirts are around 10 years now. They have no problem on holding up well, the quality, comfort and classical design which can carry any time line. It's one of the minimalism icons for me on expensive outfit, Ralph Lauren resembles vintage for me and Lacoste resembles contemporary, like these 2 brands! I was told the buttons are made of pearl instead of plastic.
When I was in highschool a Lacoste polo would set you back $15-$18 at a discount store! Now is a different story! I love Lacoste and I play lots of tennis. It is outstanding for tennis because the pique knit absorbs sweat and breathes so well! The shirt is so durable! The colkar holds up and sits well under a classic blue blazer, which is how i sometimes wear my solid colored Lacoste knits. Izod is okay but they've become like a standard plain wardrobe "staple". Cheaper price for slightly above average quality. No and can beat Lacoste's pique knits, though. They are the king of pique knits, in my honest opinion!
Purchased them since the late 60’s and the shirttail was always longer in the back. Once they started making in the USA during the 80’s the quality of knit changed and the shirttail went to one length.Clear knit Mills in Clover , SC made shirts in the late 80’s and early 90’s for Lacoste and they had an outlet store you could buy them for $12 each. They may have been seconds, but what a deal. My closet was full.
Polos and jeans is what I wear to go out like the store or errands or activities that are informal and casual. La costé is my favorite but the fit on the lower part of the polo tends to fit a little too loose on the waist part so I tailor them to fit a little bit more snug. Not tight, but better fitting.
I wanted to get the Earl for the longest time and then just moved on hahaha. I do have two OP polos. One of them is a bit longer than the other but the color (pomegranate) is really cool.
Worked for Lacoste, they still have a factory based in Troyes, Champagne region, France that produces the knitted piqué fabric, and some polo shirts of the range. It is the main historical factory. Some small ateliers in France for premium small series, Greece or north Africa. And a factory in Peru for north american market. An interesting fact : French made Lacoste polo shirts quality has lowered since the 80's, partly due to marketing choices, but also due to ecological restrictions that forbid the use of strong chemical treatment of the fiber. Those chemicals and operations are still possible abroad, in Asia for example... In the past, the water of Troyes public fountain (using the water of the canal) were colored by the taint of the day. The water jets were often blue, red or green !
@@achillesdanieladam9486 hello, i was told about an atelier in Thessalonique that produces special séries for Lacoste, it is not a Lacoste atelier but they sell their products to the brand. My wife went there for a sélection of items, i don’t have the name of that company
Thank you for your clear and concise explanation on polo shirts. You pointed out the flaws in the collars, the buttons, plus the short style of most of them. Having my husband and lads, plus in-laws that range in height from 6`1 to 6`7 this is always problematic. Do so enjoy your input. Wonderful as always.
Everything I bought from Lacoste so far was pure quality. Materials, workmanship and longevity. And I find their styles quite sophisticated with lots of clever details. They just have something I don't find in other brands. Totally worth the money imo.
I got my first Lacoste polo shirt in 1978...I was 20 then. It was the most durable piece of garment I had for many years. I still buy Lacoste. Und für Raphael, viele Grüsse aus Chile.
I bought a Lacoste polo for the story behind it. I just wanted to have a polo from them. They are too short for me, but I still like it. I like that the buttons are made of mother of pearl and the colour choice is really the best on the market.
Sid Mashburn was in Chicago this week for a road show. I sat and talked with him and ironically polos came up. We discussed the nuisance of the collars and how big manufacturers shifted away from a unique collar for specific sized shirts (S,M,L,XL) to one collar for S,M and another collar for L,XL. Check out his polos. They are a great deal. I’ve been wearing them for over 10 years.
I do the Classic Fit L.12.12 and wait on the sitewide sale. You can pick up an monogramed polo in your choice of polo and alligator color for less than the price of and "off the rack" Lacoste polo. I am a larger gentleman with a long torso so I always size up to get a perfect fit because, as stated in the video, Lacoste runs small when compared to American sizes.
One thing makes me like their cloth is because, even they don't tell you, most of their fabrics are actually sourced from European/Italian mill/supplier. Actually a very good value brand if you wait for sales(quite a lot through the year).
Great review. I prefer Ralph Lauren but I always get me some Lacoste polos as well because they have amazing colors. Only downside, I don’t really like the collar because I prefer a more stiff collar (RL) and they don’t have the extended back. Lacoste is more for people who like to tuck in their polos.
Really pleased to see a Lacoste video, thanks! I own two of their polos. A lilac/pastel purple one which I bought from a Lacoste store in France and a vintage salmon pink Chemise Lacoste one which I also bought in France. The pink one says made in France but no info on the Lilac one. Personally, I love Lacoste classic-style polos but don’t care very much for any of their other gear. As a polo shirt fan, Lacoste and Fred Perry are legendary! I agree about the colours. I have seen very few tops in the same pastel purple/lilac shade. Mine is a size 2 (yes, I am that slim) and must be a slim fit although it does not actually say that anywhere. I am used to S/M/L sizing though and I find the number system confusing. It’s a silver croc 🐊 as well, which I really like. The Lacoste sizing suits me as I am slim and 175cm so don’t have issues with getting one to fit. I’m pretty sure it’s mother of Pearl buttons too - The only downside is that the top one (of 2) fell off after a relatively short period of time, which was disappointing considering the money I spent but it’s not really a problem as I wouldn’t button the top one anyway on that particular polo. I love it and it’s survived several wardrobe culls. I probably like it more now than I did when I actually bought it. The salmon one is probably from the 70s or 80s and has the croc 🐊 on the right sleeve with gold lettering as well as the logo on the chest. Not as versatile but I would guess it’s quite rare now. That’s held up amazingly well, still has all its original buttons and hasn’t really faded. That national geographic polo is horrendous and should be burned immediately!
I for one would love (no pun intended!) seeing Raphael and Kyle play a game of tennis, if only for the pleasure of seeing the best-dressed tennis competitors ever. Also, Preston, but apparently he does not play. :)
Pique is perfect for Indian summers. Love Lacoste down here. The one I got was made in my own country, India. (Which is defintely an expensive place to manufacture textile compared to SE Asia/ Latin America) To the best of my knowledge, the cotton must have been sourced in India as Indian long staple cotton is pretty high end material.
It's quite a comprehensive take, well done. One interesting fact about that brand here, in Portugal, is that it's associated with what we call "thugs", due to the shoes and fanny packs of Lacoste, so there's always the factor of the culture of the country or region. In the end, as you've stated in the past, it's better to go for quality items than brand items. Best regards,
i wouldnt say its associated with thugs...i think that assumption is loosely based on the french urban scene..and that obviously translated into other countries where the brand is sold..but i wouldnt go as far as associating it with thugs, like you said
Em Portugal também dizemos que é roupa de "betinhos" ou de "tios", how did they say in English? Lacoste polo shirt + Dr Martens boots and black jeans = Bad Boys Lacoste polo shirt + nautic shoes and chino pants = Bad looking rich people 😬
As an italian I can say they are great quality products and resistant. Still Made in France...both Lacoste and Fred Perry are really good polos. I suggest also Sebago or Timberland as boat shoes.
I really like Lacoste. Best feeling polo on a hot summer day. However, I'm 6'5" and so I can only really pull them off when it's super casual (almost beachy). No way to tuck in. If they would be longer, I would save up and replace most of my $10-20 ones.
I think I’m one of the only women into Lacoste. It’s not popular for females to wear but I don’t care to follow the latest trends. They are timeless and simple. I have some of their tank tops and polos that lasted me almost 2 decades. They’re tried and true so I rather invest in a few quality pieces over something cheap that will fall apart quickly. Great video even though it’s not for ladies. Lol
Some girls in my high school wore Lacoste shirts and they looked good on them ,some of them had to get the oversize to get them to fit which also worked as a type of miniskirt ,that's what I liked about them
Love polo shirts. Especially for spring and summer. Tommy Bahama makes great polos. They’ll run you around $90-$110 but they’re so comfortable. Not as iconic as Lacoste. But, still.
I have a dozen premium price, premium quality, Lacoste polo shirts of various colours, some of which are 10 years old. And they are worth every cent that I paid for them. As a simple example the covering of the shoulder seams not only retains the shape through numerous washes, but they still fit perfectly. I have a very large wardrobe of modern clothes and I spend most of my Business life wearing a shirt and tie with a Business Suit. But I always pack a couple of Lacoste polo shirts in my carry-on bag. There strengths are versatility and style. Phil.
I remember Lacoste polo shirts from my High school days in the 1980tys i have a few Lacoste polo shirts i love the brand ! They really do run smaller so XXXL or is over all better for me! Thanks for the good informative review......
lacoste polo shirts can last for years. I got one from a second-hand shop, it was probably bought originally in the late 90s-early 2000s, and although I havent wore it in several years it is very much looking brand new.
Among my past casual wear one of the items I miss most are - what I called - their 'terry cloth' or 'terry' polos having textures similar to a good bath towel that Lacoste used to offer during the 70s though 80s (?) They combined Locoste’s classic crisp appearance with a soft hand. On hot days they dried readily while maintaining their bright crisp look. The colors, of course, were beautiful. I had a considerable variety. I tended to stick strictly to the solid colored shirts. All of which I either wore out or somehow lost track of over time. I found those terrys extremely comfortable and neatly attractive while maintaining an air casually relaxed. They even looked very nice a blazer along with either jeans or dress pants, sneakers or oxfords. Making them an excellent choice for casual workday wear as well as professional party gatherings. I’ve long hoped that either Locoste or Izod will re-introduce those someday. Though I’ still quite trim with only a barely noticeable paunch, I’m also much older and fear that I might soon regard them as inappropriate for my age should they reappear. NOTE: I seem to recall that, during my 20s, the croc logo was always green and I was wary of any that offered the logo in any other color (e.g. - blue.) I regarded them as being produced by bootleg operations. I’ve never been certain if that’s true or not.
I picked up a pretty cool one at Macys (was still on their site a couple of weeks ago on deep discount), and also if you search for PENGUIN TERRY CLOTH POLO they have a line with several colors. I haven't tried the brand, but I am going to pick one up soon. I'm getting a lot of compliments and smiles on the Macy's one. I am bringing terry cloth back baby, and I need more champions out there in the streets with me!
@@idcook Sure thing, my pleasure! Regarding the Macys one, looks like its gone up in price. I got it at around 35 bucks on sale at the start of summer, and I saw it on sale for 28 last week. Looks like its spiked back up to 48, but it has held up well over several washes. Search Weatherproof Vintage Men's Printed Terry Polo T-shirt if you'd like a look at that one in particular. I would really like to see more terry cloth with prints, but looks like solids are the option for the most part.
Here in the UK, Fred Perry polo shirts have always been popular. They are nicely cut for some shapes (mine included) and have an edge of additional non-preppy cool in my view.
Most of my clothes are second hand but I own one Lacoste shirt gifted to me by my uncle some 15 years ago. I wear it all the time and its still looking good, amazing quality.
I love my Lacoste Polo Shirts! The crocodile is one of the few visible logo's that I like to wear and my wife likes me in Lacoste too. The reason is both our fathers were very impressed by the brand. My wife's father went so far as to sew crocodile logos on generic polos. They have great colors. The quality is more than sufficient for the $6 I buy them for at the thrift stores. It is easy to spot the fakes. The quality is poor and the logo doesn't look the same.
I wear Lacoste polo shirts since I was a teenager. Is it worth it? Of course! I usually buy one or two per year (they are expensive) and I had no problems with any of my polo shirts: good resistant to wash, even in wash machine, firm colors, excellent sewing (only one rip off a little in collar, but after 9 years of use), always offer new colors and they're beauty. It's the perfect combination with a pair of classic blue jeans. Ralph Lauren polos are nice too, but they're a little longer and for me it's unconfortable; and in my country Argentina are more expensive than Lacoste.
Of course, it is. I grew up wearing Lacoste shirts but now too poor to afford one. I love Lacoste shirts! They're classic and reminds me of a time when people actually had class and grace.
You forgot to mention the extreme shrinkage after a wash. I bought a size L recently and just after one wash, it turned to a smaller than a size M. Now it has become a very expensive floor mop 🧼
Been using uniqlo dry pique polo T-shirt. In my opinion, the price point suits the material. All you need is to know how to take care of your garment. Always button all your polo t shirts your collar should be fine & always read your garment instructions after purchase. In door drying your garment colors will not fade.
I came across Ascot Chang (one of the best bespoke shirt maker in Hong Kong) RTW Davis’s Fit polo and they appeared in fairly high quality. Pastel colour, pique knit, shirt style collars. Also they mentioned the choice of Thomas Mason fabrics on bespoke polo. Got to try one some other time.
Fred Perry are the obvious competition, in Europe at least. Also named after a famous tennis player and have also had ups and downs over the years. Many of their polos have tipping which looks great in my opinion.
I got one as a present in age of 15 and I wore it until age of 27. It was the longest living piece of clothing in my life. I bought some cheaper polos but I don't enjoy them after the Lacoste one. Now I have possibilities to buy it, so I plan to buy one or two for this summer

I can tell yall this . The lacoste polo shirt (not the cotton one) the sport one that breathes better looked great on me . With a slight belly it camouflaged it great and was a great close fit . Worth every penny

Bought a bunch of Lacoste polo shirts 10-12 years ago. They have retained their shape and in many also the colour despite many washes.
Original Penguin Earl Polo shirts next!! Perfect content for this channel based on the history of this garment
I am from Greece and I am interested to know about about ateliers you mentioned about Greece. They produce here some of their polo shirts you mean?
@@achillesdanieladam9486 hello, i was told about an atelier in Thessalonique that produces special séries for Lacoste, it is not a Lacoste atelier but they sell their products to the brand. My wife went there for a sélection of items, i don’t have the name of that company
@@paulb8869 Thanks for the info
I just bought one of these in a royal blue a day before you all posted! Still, love this series, it is very helpful with name brand items!
If you only knew that they cost around 4 dollars to make a lacoste t shirt 😂😂
Is it true they shrink?
I got my first Lacoste polo shirt in 1978...I was 20 then. It was the most durable piece of garment I had for many years. I still buy Lacoste. Und für Raphael, viele Grüsse aus Chile.
Yes! The video I have been waiting for
I bought a Lacoste polo for the story behind it.
Lacoste is the king of polo shirts. Period.
One thing makes me like their cloth is because, even they don't tell you, most of their fabrics are actually sourced from European/Italian mill/supplier. Actually a very good value brand if you wait for sales(quite a lot through the year).
I wore Lacoste growing up in Louisiana. Love the alligator 🐊 logo.
Completely agree about them being too short. I buy up a size and find that works well for me.
Due to a physical disability, I'm a bit less limber than the other gents. However, I quite enjoy a good game of badminton! :)
- Preston
@@gentlemansgazette And when it comes to tennis, Preston, you can be the best-dressed spectator ever - with or without wearing spectator shoes! :)
@@gentlemansgazette And isn't badminton actually THE gentleman's sport?
Pique is perfect for Indian summers. Love Lacoste down here. The one I got was made in my own country, India.
(Which is defintely an expensive place to manufacture textile compared to SE Asia/ Latin America)
To the best of my knowledge, the cotton must have been sourced in India as Indian long staple cotton is pretty high end material.
You guys should review Ralph Lauren’s henley!
Great vid as always by the way!
Best regards,
Interesting
i wouldnt say its associated with thugs...i think that assumption is loosely based on the french urban scene..and that obviously translated into other countries where the brand is sold..but i wouldnt go as far as associating it with thugs, like you said
Em Portugal também dizemos que é roupa de "betinhos" ou de "tios", how did they say in English?
Lacoste polo shirt + Dr Martens boots and black jeans = Bad Boys
Lacoste polo shirt + nautic shoes and chino pants = Bad looking rich people 😬
and adidas the "mitras" like to show that have some money but they look tacky.
As an italian I can say they are great quality products and resistant. Still Made in France...both Lacoste and Fred Perry are really good polos. I suggest also Sebago or Timberland as boat shoes.
i have been wearing theses since i was 17 , i am now 51 . .i still love them. 1st 1 was £24 got 2 last week now £79 each.
Only wear Lacoste! Definitely my favorite brand!
My polos have been holding quite well after years but what I like even more from Lacoste is their shirts , dont know why but they fit me really nicely
I really like Lacoste. Best feeling polo on a hot summer day. However, I'm 6'5" and so I can only really pull them off when it's super casual (almost beachy). No way to tuck in. If they would be longer, I would save up and replace most of my $10-20 ones.
I appreciate your knowledge of clothes, details I never thought exists, like number of stiches per inch and much more
I think I’m one of the only women into Lacoste. Lol
Some girls in my high school wore Lacoste shirts and they looked good on them ,some of them had to get the oversize to get them to fit which also worked as a type of miniskirt ,that's what I liked about them
I think women look unreal in Lacoste. It’s a gorgeous look. Just my two cents. Never see any ladies in polos here
"Ace or ENDS UP love"
CLEAR tennis reference, despite unclear delivery
Bought my Lacoste sport shirt 15 years ago and it still looks brand new
Love polo shirts.
Phil.
I only have one Lacoste polo and I wear it all the time. It’s classic green and has never faded or stretched.
@@Isahiyella Thank You!
I’ll look them up.
@@idcook Sure thing, my pleasure! Regarding the Macys one, looks like its gone up in price. I got it at around 35 bucks on sale at the start of summer, and I saw it on sale for 28 last week. Looks like its spiked back up to 48, but it has held up well over several washes. Search Weatherproof Vintage
Men's Printed Terry Polo T-shirt if you'd like a look at that one in particular. I would really like to see more terry cloth with prints, but looks like solids are the option for the most part.
Here in the UK, Fred Perry polo shirts have always been popular. They are nicely cut for some shapes (mine included) and have an edge of additional non-preppy cool in my view.
And a great history and street credibility, definitely my favourite especially the made in England ones, although they are pricey.
Most of my clothes are second hand but I own one Lacoste shirt gifted to me by my uncle some 15 years ago. I wear it all the time and its still looking good, amazing quality.
Ahh so good to see sven! I am planning to buy some polo shirts
Black & White colours collars are the evergreen polos of Lacoste !
I still have my Lacoste Polo shirt. 18 years, no complaints. Hope they still make em that way
Of course, it is. I grew up wearing Lacoste shirts but now too poor to afford one. I love Lacoste shirts! They're classic and reminds me of a time when people actually had class and grace.
I love your humor
Of course I love this brand the quality is so good and is not fast fashion I have a black polo since 4 years ago and still looks awesome 👏👏
You forgot to mention the extreme shrinkage after a wash. I bought a size L recently and just after one wash, it turned to a smaller than a size M. Now it has become a very expensive floor mop 🧼
You are absolutely right. The solution I found is to get a larger size and it will fit perfectly after a couple of washes.
These last forever (Classic L12). Definitely worth it.
I have Polo shirt, it is the same as it was 7 years ago, same colour same texture, I just love it.
Wearing Lacoste Polos since 40 years, I can recommend the shirts. And the label is really iconic.
I have 3 Lacoste polos and I bought them many years ago and i still wear and like them. However, the best polo I ever had is Gagliardi POLO from Malta.
Got my Campanas + Lacoste Polo back in 2009 while in Paris. It's a great conversation starter at parties.
Lacoste forever! They are worth investing. Spent a lifetime fortune with this brand. I would say it's worth it as long as you can afford it. I breath Lacoste and it feels soooo good!. Just saying....
I like the fabrics they use for their polos. Its quite a high quality comparing the others. And I am not afraid to be marked up by Lacoste logo.
Love them! The way they are cut if you are somewhat tall & slim is how it’s done.
Would actually love to see an episode on classic tennis clothing that featured a tennis match while wearing those classic clothes!
Yes we need a tennis match. Also I been considering to buy some polo shirts. Thank you for the information.
High quality content as usual
💚 I bought some in the US a long time ago (they were 30% off!). The short sleeves were much longer. Cotton-polyester blend. Loved them and kept them many years.
I’ve been wearing Lacoste for more 30 years. Lately I found out those made in Peru are not good compared to Vietnam made.. Hope Lacoste will keep up their quality standard wherever it is made.
I bought a Lacoste sweater 8 years ago and it’s held up nicely.
Please do a review on “Gant”. Thankyou!
Eversince I’ve learned about uniqlo polo, I always buy them. It just fits better and the collars don’t rise
I can tell yall this . The lacoste polo shirt (not the cotton one) the sport one that breathes better looked great on me . With a slight belly it camouflaged it great and was a great close fit . Worth every penny
Getting the Ace or Love joke. *pats self on back for being cultured and smart* =)))

I’ve just got myself some John Smedley polo shirts. They’re made with sea island cotton and they feel great on. There’s no branding on them which is a massive bonus to me.
I bought several Lacoste polo shirts in the Nordstrom Rack for $24 each. For this price I think it's well worth it.
