People like me would never get to see these great knives if you did't make videos. Being a knife nut this gets me very excited. In your vids you can see that knife is worth every penny it cost.
Alec is a very humbled young man. I've been able to speak with him a few times and truly knows everything about knives. He's a smart kid and I wish him all the best. Got bless!
Thanks for the video Jim. Your passionate and perceptive depiction is greatly appreciated by all of us knife enthusiasts. Thanks Alec for letting us see your incredible museum piece.
That cracked ice finish on this knife and your glimpse 5.5.... it is astounding! Ridiculously perfectly detailed and in my opinion sets his knives apart from everyone elses.
Beautiful. I've had probably a dozen bodegas (just got the mini today!) and I might trade all of them for that one. That's a gorgeous blade. Thanks to you for showing and and to Alec for sharing.
Very interesting review, Jim. As usual. You know, I don't have access to high end knives or high end knives makers end without your detailed and passionate reviews it wouldn't be possible for me starting making knives looking at the right details. So thanks man, I really mean it.
Oh Jim why did I watch this buddy??!!! I've been too far away from the community for a while I need to get back on it!!!!! Great review as usual and a true Grail!!
I'm fifteen. I thought I had an amazing collection FOR MY AGE. I own a benchmade 940 a benchmade 300-1. a tops bob an esee izula II a tenacious a lot of kershaws and tons of cheap crap frost cutlery and smith and Wesson from when I first started collecting. I'm proud of my collection. but Alec. holy crap. That's amazing. and honestly. when I was 13 I didn't deserve this. I still probably dont. but I trust that Alec is a good person that will forever respect the supreme elegance of this grail he has in his possession.
I want to at least handle a Bodega once before I die. Also this video was one of the more emotional ones to watch. X'D I'm always really touched by your passion and love for knives.
It's too flashy for you , words i never thought you'd say . This is an excellent example of why i'm subscribed to you channel , to see knives that i'd otherwise never see , too expand my knowledge . You're a very lucky man to review this knife .
dude!! That kid gonna go places!!! even if parents did help psy for it! what a GREAT GREAT choice! holy crap 1 of 6!!🤦♂️😍..... 11k a month on knives!!! dude your safe is a "GRAIL" TOO!!!
This knives look cool, but that 's all . I would not use them as a tool , and for watching them I can see the for free in your video :)). Thanks for sharing !
This is one of the most amazing knives out there, but I think I like the king battle better just because it is a more extreme and different design. Don't get me wrong, this is ridiculously beautiful, and is probably perfection, it just doesn't quite have the shaping the battle does.
+Jim Skelton Well, I agree. The ricasso after the choil is absolutely intentional. But I would like to have an extended choil or have a modified grind angle, to have a full length edge. I'm a sharp (pun intended) transition guy. Seeing this "choil -> 90 degree blunt part -> edge grind" rubs me the wrong way. But that's a personal preference i guess. Aside from this, this knife took my breath. In fact I even waited almost an hour to see the video in its full HD beauty. While looking at it, I think the screws that hold the inlays could have been made of anodized titanium, so they would blend in better with the surrounding timascus. Whats your thought about it? Curious to know :3
I agree. Totally killed the knife for me. From the perspective of one who sharpens their own knives, that kind of edge transition is needless and infuriating.
As a knife maker , I say this from what I've learned . To get that curved plung line you have the have that little area in front of the edge . If you sharpen that par it adds some funky angles .
+Ruben Wittkowski I think the reasoning on that is a safer, more comfortable finger choil; if it had a steeper plunge grind and the edge extended to the choil, any kind of forward pressure would push your finger against the cutting edge. It's not my preference, but there's a point to it.
I'm 14 and i started collecting knives last year, I'm in Australia so it's hard to get different types of folders. I have a Mini Division, ZT 0095, 0620CF, QTRMSTR Mr Roper XL, Spyderco PM 2 and a Spartan Enyo
+Halo Content Yeah you guys have some very strict laws there, but they recently loosened up a little bit. Sounds like a nice growing collection, especially for your age and the restrictions of your country.
+Jim Skelton im 17 and in australia as well, our laws do suck ass but it not impossible to start up a collection, ive got a cold steel code 4, hold out 1 in coyote tan, a lion steel sr1a,a cold steel rajah and voyager, plus a viking axe and a condor chinese war sword but im starting to allocate most of my attention to folders, i want to get a zt350 but its assisted so i cant get it into the country and the ones that are here are over priced as fuck
Hey Jim, at 2 minutes and 30 seconds, you said there would be a video on the changes done to Big Red. Has that happened yet? If so, which video would that be in? I can't seem to find it.
It's ALMOST as beautiful as when you showed us your Bengal, don't get me wrong this is definitely a beautiful knife, but your Bengal is more of my taste.
I've always been too mature mature for my age, but getting a 5-6,000 dollar knife would be so overwhelming I'd probably store it in the safest place possible...
I liked the knife very much, but I think the thing I liked most in this video is hearing Jim Skelton admitting he was terrified to handle the knife of a 13 year old.
the best knives in my collection are my cold steel custom series talwar which I have two of black talon the black sable and a benchmade 970st with a titanium blade made for the Navy seals in 94" but all of them together would not touch this Todd begg beauty😿
It may be just me...but the one thing that really bugs me about it is, for $5K I think it should at least hidden hardware for the inlays. At leat Ti screws so they could be aonodized (heat or otherwise) to blend in more. While I wouldn't consider that a flaw perse, I think it would keep me from buying it. That is if I had $5k to spend on a knife. LOL I'm lucky to have $500 to spend on a knife. That being said, it it a beautiful knife!
For many people, a $100 Endura 4 is pretty damn unattainable. “Grail” is subjective. For most people, spending 11k in a month on pocket knives is something they’ll only ever do in their dreams.
Ok. I hadn’t watched to the end So it’s safe to say now , This is the kind of Knife/Art that you put on your Visa card and Slit your Wrists with, BEFORE you start making your minimal payments.
The justification is that a knife like that is an investment. If you ever had a need to sell it you could easily get the money you put into it if not more.
the knife is perfect but for the edge, which doesnt fully touchesvthe choil. Something that could be easily fixed if you sent it to theapostleP for the finest edge one could possibly want. Best built knife ever though. Begg is a knife maker not a sharpener anyway. Can't blame him for it.
Guus de Jong it is done that way intentionally. No one needs to take a $5000+ knife made by a master to get an edge on a consumer based sharpening system lol
If you say so, I prefer my edges sharpened all the way to the base. I wasn't saying it was badly crafted. If it is designed to have the edge sharpened only to that point its fine by me.
Jim you are not right by all means when you talking about zt knives and this one and a grail as such.I can make six knives I can take them to a perfect level but none of them going be grail because of the level of finish but usage and practicality, reliability.I would not change my zt 562 to this thing if money did not exist.you get the point? It is you and the others among the money that makes this knife that expensive.again if my life depend on it i would rather choose Zero Tolerance knives than a fashion knife with fancy staff on it that you end up wiping off every second anyhow so it looks cool, awesome.there is no need for those fancy things at all.this is nothing but jewelry in my eyes.and yes zt's and other good brands and unknown makers whose make a true grail in knife business as such not jewelry makers.
13 year old with a 5k knife.... fuck my life, im 17 and my most expensive blades are a my cold steel rajah 2, lion steel sr1, cold steel hold out 1 in coyote tan, a code 4 and my condor dynasty dadao
It is a BITCH to polish titanium to a mirror finish like that, I mean so much so, that I almost have my doubts as to that part of the knife actually being titanium?
Beautiful knife, but I don't really see the point buying a knife for $6000 just to keep in a safe, as at that rice you are never going to use it. I would sooner buy 5-6 knives for that rice that are also custom made but will use them every day!
Todd Begg pays himself what? Like $100/hour? It makes me mad that a dude making his first titanium frame lock thinks he deserves $100-$200 per hour on a knife. It takes years and years to reach that level.
Everyone has his own grail of knifes , for someone who cant afford a 5 k knife , a sebenza will be a grail knife etc. Or you just wanted to say that ppl who dont have that much money for a knife cant have a ´´grail´´ knife ? thats stupid imo ...
I know I’m getting old (60.75) when I’d rather watch videos o guns and now knives , done by Masters of their Hobbies, than Porn ! Well I can have a nice Blade or Pistol, but can’t have what they’re showing.
For 5-6k I could pretty much buy every knife I've ever wanted... Outrageously priced. It's not even a knife u daily carry... Literally what is the point of it?
People like me would never get to see these great knives if you did't make videos. Being a knife nut this gets me very excited. In your vids you can see that knife is worth every penny it cost.
Alec is a very humbled young man. I've been able to speak with him a few times and truly knows everything about knives. He's a smart kid and I wish him all the best. Got bless!
This is the best video Jim has done. Very much liked the insight he provides here. Further, enjoyed the full half hour show -vs- shorter ones.
I love todds work! He's a true genuine artist. I have the SteelCraft Series mini bodega and I LOVE IT!!
Thanks for the video Jim. Your passionate and perceptive depiction is greatly appreciated by all of us knife enthusiasts. Thanks Alec for letting us see your incredible museum piece.
Have to admit, this is a hell of a knife. I really like the looks of it. It definitely is the king underneath the knifes.
That cracked ice finish on this knife and your glimpse 5.5.... it is astounding! Ridiculously perfectly detailed and in my opinion sets his knives apart from everyone elses.
Definitely the most beautiful knife I have EVER seen!!!
Wonderful presentation. One of kind knife. Your video made my Saturday evening. Thanks!!!
Greatest knife of all time????? I think so. You got deep on us Jim. I love it.
this is a beautiful knife. seriously probably my favorite out every knife you have shown.
this knife by far is the nicest one I've ever seen any where I'm floored seeing the finish on this knife it's just WOW!
Oh. My. Gawd. That is breathtakingly gorgeous
Beautiful. I've had probably a dozen bodegas (just got the mini today!) and I might trade all of them for that one. That's a gorgeous blade. Thanks to you for showing and and to Alec for sharing.
Pretty much in love with everything Todd Begg does.
this is only review I had to watch twice. beautiful, beautiful knife!
Amazing. Thanks for sharing Alec.
Thank you for including the photography at the beginning.
One word...BEAUTIFUL ...
Beautiful Beyond Reason! Thanks for the great review, Jim!
that i a piece of art right there. cant describe how beatiful this knife is
Very interesting review, Jim.
All I can say is
WOW!
love it
the work Todd has done is purfect in my view very cool
this is nothing short of amazing. Absolutely floored by this
Thanks for sharing to both of you!
I'm fifteen. I thought I had an amazing collection FOR MY AGE. I'm 13 and love knifes but I do live in the uk so that sucks but thanks Jim for showing us this beautiful knife
One man's grail, is another man's production knife!!! lol Cool video Mr. S!!!
I just dropped my spliff I'm that impressed with that knife 😱
Beautiful but totally crazy... oh well just the right combination for us knife nuts.
I think it's an admiral goal
ZT: Grail knives at non grail prices... that should be their new slogan.
Wow, I had one look at it and said 'stfu!'...impeccable craftsmanship, absolutely breath-taking.
Wow.. That's amazing... Thanks for sharing
Thank you Alex
Woa I need this in my life... One day I'll get something like this made for myself. When I win the lottery or something.
Alec is the man
It's too flashy for you , words i never thought you'd say . This is an excellent example of why i'm subscribed to you channel , to see knives that i'd otherwise never see , too expand my knowledge . You're a very lucky man to review this knife .
sickest knife ever!!
The full custom is a work of art, but that glimpse of yours is just downright sexy.
dude!! That kid gonna go places!!! even if parents did help psy for it! what a GREAT GREAT choice! holy crap 1 of 6!!🤦♂️😍..... 11k a month on knives!!! dude your safe is a "GRAIL" TOO!!!
WoW so that's a custom!!!
I need to tell Todd Begg about my birthday
This knives look cool, but that 's all . I would not use them as a tool , and for watching them I can see the for free in your video :)). Thanks for sharing !
somewhere, out there, there is a 13 year old Alec, who has a knife that blows away my whole collection, and I will never get one of those... :O
His house burnt down and so did his knives... kinda sad, but now you don’t have a 13 year old kid named Alec who has a knife better than you.
I know what you mean lol
Is this really true?
True this knife is no more... Jim this video is epic I’ve watched it no less than 20 times... my favorite of favorites!! A magnum opus!
@@Tigerbricks11 Good. Little shit didn't deserve it.
beautiful blade
holy mother of the knife gods!!!!
This is one of the most amazing knives out there, but I think I like the king battle better just because it is a more extreme and different design. Don't get me wrong, this is ridiculously beautiful, and is probably perfection, it just doesn't quite have the shaping the battle does.
Incredible knife! The most gorgeous knife I saw from you the last two years!
but,
as i saw the transition from the choil the the edge, I vomited.
You're kidding right? There isn't a flaw on any part of this knife.
+Jim Skelton Well, I agree. The ricasso after the choil is absolutely intentional. But I would like to have an extended choil or have a modified grind angle, to have a full length edge.

QTRMSTR huh? I bet you just made Jim jealous
+Halo Content Yeah you guys have some very strict laws there, but they recently loosened up a little bit. Sounds like a nice growing collection, especially for your age and the restrictions of your country.

Awesome blade. When you going to review that beautiful 1911
is that a new glimpse you showed for a second?
It's ALMOST as beautiful as when you showed us your Bengal, don't get me wrong this is definitely a beautiful knife, but your Bengal is more of my taste.
that knife should have its own name, like "the domination" or "broke but happy"
Todd has to use some sort of CNC for his customs. He probably starts out with a blank bodega frame and then takes if from there.
Or he can use a pantograph...
Why don't I get custom knives for my birthday? xD
Wow!
I've always been too mature mature for my age, but getting a 5-6,000 dollar knife would be so overwhelming I'd probably store it in the safest place possible...
Ohhh so sexy! I really want the black and gold Bodega.
Jim ignore the Guest blade question i had on the other vid :)
The ricasso on that knife is screwey as hell. But it doesnt matter because you wont ever sharpen that.
how can a guy without money problems get access to buy this kind of knives?
First nice knife by the way
I liked the knife very much, but I think the thing I liked most in this video is hearing Jim Skelton admitting he was terrified to handle the knife of a 13 year old.
pleeease do the mini bodega
the best knives in my collection are my cold steel custom series talwar which I have two of black talon the black sable and a benchmade 970st with a titanium blade made for the Navy seals in 94" but all of them together would not touch this Todd begg beauty😿
How do i get a field grade bodega
It may be just me...but the one thing that really bugs me about it is, for $5K I think it should at least hidden hardware for the inlays. It's a design choice I'm pretty sure if he wanted to hide all the hardware he could lol...
"Unlikely he will ever sell it." I bet he'd sell it in a fucking heartbeat if someone offered him a a couple hundred thousand. lol Too bad it burned.
For many people, a $100 Endura 4 is pretty damn unattainable. “Grail” is subjective. For most people, spending 11k in a month on pocket knives is something they’ll only ever do in their dreams.
only thing i see wrong with it is that the swedge doesnt go along the fuller
When you make better knives than Todd, come back here and give a lesson.
you asked us to find one thing imperfect about it, that was just my opinion
+Jim Skelton no need to try and take a chunk out of me for something you asked us to do
Ok. I hadn’t watched to the end So it’s safe to say now , This is the kind of Knife/Art that you put on your Visa card and Slit your Wrists with, BEFORE you start making your minimal payments.
Too bad those screws are pooling through the handle scale/inlays. Should had tapped blind holes.
Only a millionaire would actually use that knife as an EDC.

That knife is made from unobtainium

I can see the quality, but if I owned this I would sell it in an instant
13 year old with a 5k knife.... fuck my life, im 17 and my most expensive blades are a my cold steel rajah 2, lion steel sr1, cold steel hold out 1 in coyote tan, a code 4 and my condor dynasty dadao
then change it. money doesnt just come to you
It is a BITCH to polish titanium to a mirror finish like that, I mean so much so, that I almost have my doubts as to that part of the knife actually being titanium?
loving it but dont need it. i would keep the pile of 5k cash tho.
esa, es una navaja.
The only flaw is it has too many screws, otherwise great knife
Don't care how finely made that is, ugly imo. Looks ridiculous with all that Damasteel and Timascus shit. I much prefer the simpler, less flashy shit.
It's a beautiful knife, but just a bit too gaudy for me, that's just my opinion of course. Still an amazing knife otherwise no doubt.
Beautiful knife, but I don't really see the point buying a knife for $6000 just to keep in a safe, as at that rice you are never going to use it. I would sooner buy 5-6 knives for that rice that are also custom made but will use them every day!

I'm 14 and my most expensive knife is zero tolerance 0450.
+Dino Devan my most expensive knife is my hold out 1 for now, about to get a lionsteel sr1

To be honest, I'm not seeing the appeal here. Maybe it's just because I'm not holding it, but it just doesn't look like a $6000 knife.
Looks like dog shit. 🤮
grail knife should at least be hand made, come on guys :P
As a dude this knife gets me wet 😂
For 5-6k
I could pretty much buy every knife I've ever wanted... Outrageously priced. It's not even a knife u daily carry... Literally what is the point of it?
+jeffcon123 If you don't get it, we won't bother to explain it to you. I could buy a lot of Fords for the price of a Bentley...
