- My first ever video on knives not owned by me personally. I was honored with the opportunity to fondle these two impressive specimens of custom cutlery by Bob, and I wanted to share my raw & frank reaction to them as I saw them for the very first time. Excuse my overly dry hands, but knowing I was going to be handling Damascus knives (that weren't mine), I doused my hands with alcohol to eliminate any oils or moisture from my hands prior to touching these blades.
I keep coming back to this video just to hear the sound of that snap open! Hands down the best sounding flipper on this planet! Kachank!
Stunning knives Jim. That was really cool of Bob to let you handle those. As always another excellent video.
RJ is a beast. I've been to his shop a few times and he is THE man
That is why RJ was one of the makers I studied when I starting making folders, he is a master of the flipper
R.J. Martin is a beast. Definitely one of my favorite knife designers.
Joshua Jacob knife maker*
Yea that q-36 is pure insanity! Sounds amazing :)
Indeed, he is a great guy, and loves to share his collection.. which is really great because he has so many that you cannot just go out and buy, or even see in person
I love your reaction to flipping the RJ Martin!
I was absolutely blown away with RJ's knives at Blade.. Also, something tells me that your comment about being close to content with your collection just changed ;) haha. Great vid Jim.
Great vid Jim! That RJ Martin is a thing of beauty!!!
I have seen Aaron's on his channel so I know he makes lefties. I might have to seek one out myself!
Bob is great! Nice vid Jim.
Mr Skelton,
'Just a quick word to let you know how very much I enjoy your RUclips knife presentations. You have introduced me to so very many custom makers, most of whom I've researched further on my own. After chewing through dozens of other knife reviews, I think I've settled on a grail knife should I ever be in a position to afford it. I'm quite partial to the Jeff Vandermeulen Mini Intro. Keep up the good work.
Many thanks for the heads up! I've looked at the Estrella, and it is nice.
My man, low key rockin the Audemars Piquet chronograph. That's knife in hand X 20 on your wrist 👍🏼
love the sound of the lock up flipping action is crazy it's making me rethink some of my flippers now lol
way cool video
Dear Jim sorry if I came off rude! But I was being honest and even offered up my overkill which is the Frame lock version of that RJ. Now you get it... I sold everything else and collect only him and tuff's new Tanic. RJ martin makes the best flipper. You rock for being man enough to admit it by the way!
Bobs a great dude, happy flipping Jim :)
Yep , great blade shape , flipper action. Very nice that RJ Martin
The Vander Muelen Intro, is awesome. So's the R.J.Martin, but given the choice for free, if they were priced the same , I'd prob. choose the first one. Lol. Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Newly subscribed. Mark.
Ur reaction to the flipping action of the RJ was hilarious
RJ is the king of flippers
ha ha don't you hate when that happens you think you're done and then something comes along like that
great video man
Ok I fell in love with that RJ Martin. Just curious as to what the list price on that one would be.
GTC best flipper action then rj imo. I got to handle Bobs collection at ECCKS it was better than most dealers at the show...seriously. Bobs a great guy and I'm not surprised by his eagerness to share. Best of luck on your quest for a Q36. Thanks for sharing your initial reactions.
An rj Martin rampage, DRT, and variable have been at the top of my list ever since I got into knives. Is the detent what makes it fly out so fast?
The RJ Martin is my holy grail
Thank you for the Vid! I love the RJ Martín, specially the flipping action. :o
Never thought it was rude man, I am always open to new info and worthwhile suggestions!
That RJ snaps like glass breaking, damn!
Thanks bud, I added an annotation in the vid to reflect that. I will take the Q36 on a little outing tonight I think....
Yes, the Bob. He's a fun guy isn't he.
Everyone has a different approach to this. I will only tip-up carry because I don;t want to change hand position on the knife from draw to deploy. Also, I carry a lot of flippers, I can't have the flipper pushed on by the pocket or pocket seam and half open when I go to reach for it.
The Intro's blade seems to be a bowie style. Similar to the Emerson CQC-13 for example.
That would be on a bearings system, I believe that Mr. Martin was the first to put bearings into his knives. fun little fact.
always wanted a custom rj martin but not going to going happen for awhile. I am defiantly going to pick up a zt 0600
Both beautiful knives. But man I really want that RJ Martin!!!
Yes his collection is overwhelming. It literally took me over an hour to just handle and flip them all, and I felt rushed (damn Tuffthumbz ; ) BDunn's collection is Killer too.
Just wait .. In two weeks Jim's going to be like look at my four new rj Martins
Looks like he used the same bearings as Tuffthumbz is using with his flipper!
RJ is a flipper master
Can you only find a RJ Martin from the second hand market? I really like the devastator...like...a lot haha Keep up the good videos
Bob's Lambert collection is better than Kirbys. I loves me some Bob.
Love rjs...the vander would be a bowie style blade jim
Whats the knife with the red handle? It looks pretty :)
I always love the look of flipper but never been a fan of flip open action...I prefer to enjoy the smoothness when open by thump stud/hole.
Hey Jim,How Many Drop-Cloths were destroyed whilst making this video? lol great stuff bro !
lol, glad you liked!
Oddly, I think I would actually be interested in seeing the fart test. It's fun to see that serious collectors can still be surprised by knives.
LOL!! If only I could luck out and find any...
I can see you are now an RJ Martin fan. :)
RJM is really nice, Jim.
I love it
The liners on that RJ are beef. Like it.
The knife has to come apart, the pivot screw would be below the bolster
If I understand this correctly, that is dama-steel, right? But then what's damascus steel?
hey Jim what do you think of the RJ collab with ZT? (0600)
Better call Brinks to send them back to Bob. Hate to see those get lost in shipping.
its a pretty version of the Kershaw 3655!!
Holy Santa Claus shit! That thing is a rocket and looked like it would almost jump out of your hand.. Not to play down the vandermuelen at all but after seeing the Martin flip, it's kind of anticlimactic to see that one open
Omg mind blown
I think the bolsters on the q36 are zirconium.
I want the q36 so bad but can’t find any
so its 12:21 and im laying in bed i get my phone check instagram see a pic that says "had a nearly orgasmic experience doing a new youtube video on these beast. HUGE thanks to @goodclimbing for trusting me with these works of art. Video is uploading now.My jaw is still hanging open." and im like shit well lets turn on the pc then lol.
damn that thing flies open
Oromoto has shown a few nice rj martins. If your collection is ghetto now then I have children's toys. Lol. Someone likes carbon fiber and Damascus. Great combo.
Just WOW
Its sway back. I like sway back. Give nice swell.
I saw bob a few times with tuff thumbs
Hay Jim if you in Miami check bladeart.com they are located in the Metro Zoo area. Caro is really nice she is the owner and had a bunch of stuff. The website only has about 35% of the inventory she really has she is a 1 person show so I think that's the reason. Email her and she will let you know what she has with photos. Thanks for all the videos.
Hahahahahahajahahahahahahahajahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha I almost lost it when you said if you farted hard enough hahahahahahaha
That knife shouldn't have titanium bolsters because it's not designed to be lightweight.
RJ Martin
who is that bob?
Man,, I changed my mine,, reverse that. Haha. I'll take the R.J. Lol
it looks like a Kershaw volt ss
Looks like the bolsters on the Martin are zirconium.
Bob and I are way too alike. Kinda scary.
More like 3 or 4 days.;)
And here I am flipping my $30 CRKT...
Clip point.
7:54 your welcome
7:55 I lost it laughing *what the shit? Really??*
It's funny to me that you avoided the expression "manufacturer" and went for "maker" to refer to someone who makes custom knives by hand, because the "manu" in "manufacturer" (heck, look at spanish) comes from the latin for hand, and a manufacturer was someone who made things through manual labour, i.e. hand-made. Only in the second half of the 18th century people started calling a manufacturer "someone who employs workers in manufacturing".
2000 more and you could build a brick shed.
LOL!
That Q36 is a bullet.
These are bad...RJ is a great maker.
Make sure before you ship it back to him to wipe all of the JIZZ off of it.
*Drool*
