    would you be able to project those lines of the flat and radius's turn the 5th axis 90 degrees and use the projected lines as an open contour following those line?

    What about using a spherical endmill? Like a ball mill with an undercut.

    I heard him reference a SVM 4100 and thought I would throw in my 2 cents after owning one for over a year. I have 2 DNM 4500's and 1 SVM 4100. The SVM is nice because it rapids fast and the servos accelerate and decelerate much faster, but the rigidity is severely less than the DNM. If I could go back in time I would buy another DNM and spend the little bit extra money. The machine is also so low to the ground which is a bummer for me being 6'2". I guess it all depends on what you need it to do but I much prefer my DNMS. Also, the coolant tank design sucks and the coolant lines get clogged if you look at them wrong. Both issues I really don't have on the DNM's.

    Maybe you could scale parts and print them to make it easier to take to IMTS.

      To some extent this is true. I assure you that I am very capable of making bad parts on a good machine 😅. But we are both also hitting the limits of our equipment. No matter how good I am, my machine is still limited to 8x14" travels, for example.

      yeahhh, I just got access AB testing on thumbnails, and I just wanted to play with it. I should have just stuck with the actual picture on this one. I normally like the AI generated thumnnails for the podcast because it differentiates them from my normal videos, but I think the real deal is better here

    After hearing you talk about xometry jobs I thought I’d check it out and the demo part they gave me for a mill sourced out a 16 micro inch Ra. How did you hit that surface roughness without a surface grinder and how did you measure it for the inspection? I really only have a manual horizontal bandsaw and a vmc in my garage.

      Back when I did it, it didn't have that call out. I think your best bet without spending a lot of money is to get one of those physical reference charts. it won't give you an exact roughness number, but you will be able to see if it is better or worse than 16Ra. It's aluminum so if you go slow with a sharp tool, you will be fine.
      At the end of the day I really only have a bandsaw and a VMC as well, so I believe in you 🙂. I have some miscellaneous support equipment, but other than measuring stuff, it almost never touches the final parts
