  • I'm back in Europe once again, this time in the Balkans along the Adriatic Sea. I flew into Dubrovnik, Croatia but just spent one night there, then headed south down to Herceg Novi in Montenegro.

    Welcome back to Croatia Gabe. Seems like you love our Balkan ex-yu countries as somehow you always keep coming back. Prices are not normal for us Croatians but no matter how much they raise the prices people are still coming in huge numbers. Avoid those tourist traps and everything will be fine, you can still find a decent meal for five-six-seven euros. Hope you will enjoy your stay. Kind regards from Zagreb

      Yes, surely the best mountain spot in the whole country imho, even the town of Žabljak is on 1,456 m height and therefore nicely fresh in summer days, with much possible hikes and chair lifts at the Savin Kuk Ski Center. It is similar to Slovenian Julian Alps as Tara River Canyon has a possibility of rafting, just like it is possible to do it in the Slovenian Soča River Valley. I have nice memories from Žabljak and Durmitor as I was there in 2019.

      But because the island officially uses the Turkish Lira as its currency, it's also fair bit cheaper cheaper than the Greek islands. it can be a lot cheaper than ‘Euroized’ islands due to the lira’s weakness against the dollar so will be lot cheaper than greece for you happy travels gabe

    Nicely done, as always. If I were seeking non-touristy, traditional areas of Montenegro, I would drive NW from Podgorica toward Danilovgrad. Then, I would take a left at Danilovgrad (road P23 it is apparently called) up toward the Garac mountain, toward small traditional villages like Gornje Zagarace and Markovina. For museums/history Cetinje would be a must on my journey. For the sea, I would visit the city of Bar (simply because I have never been there). If you are looking for some adventurous driving, I would follow the Moraca River canyon up North, the old road. It scared me plenty of times in the 1980s (traveling from Belgrade to Titograd/Podgorica by car (and train)). Where you are at now, I learned to fish as a kid across the bay from you, in Herceg Novi, specifically Skver on the breakwater rocks (across from where all the boats/the swimming pool are.). Good memories. Thank you very much for all that you do, you are the best channel on RUclips, period.

    Nice plan, going to inland of Montenegro. Historical capital Cetinje (wtih old town, Mount Lovćen, Njegoš Mausoleum) and Žabljak (Savin Kuk, Đurđevića Tara Bridge, Tara River Canyon, Black Lake, another real mountain hikes) surely look like the best spots (centers) for inland and mountain exploring while Podgorica (ex Titograd) is pretty boring and unhistorical for a capital but Lake Skadar nearby (with Albanian Alps in the background and prison island Grmožur in the middle of the lake) is surely worth to visit. Herceg Novi seems like the least crowded coastal magnet in Montenegro but is a door to the Bay of Kotor where there are two major islets off Perast town (St. George, Gospa od Škrpjela). Between Kotor and Cetinje, it is an iconic curvy road with nice views to the whole Bay of Kotor on the top (although maybe even better views are on the path to Mount Lovćen). Apart from my home country Slovenia, I see Montenegro as the best and nicest ex-Yugoslav republic after I have visited all of them. Have a nice time there, Gabriel.

    Hi Gabriel, the prices in Montenegro may be costly too many people are traveling to Montenegro and Albania there becoming immensely popular. You may want to go into the Orjen Mountains and Durmitor Mountains caves and underground rivers included. You mentioned going to Turkey in September. I saw something interesting you may be interested in going to Southern Vietnam Phu Quoc Island looks beautiful and a beautiful place to get away for the cold months.

    Good to see you doing what you love the most again. Really I don’t think anyone has that much of a handle on the number of Schengen days spent. It’s up to the individual border guard to add it up and most don’t care. Especially with multiple exit and entry stamps. Some will be faded or illegible etc.
    Next year in 2025 things will change as it becomes electronically tracked. Then I’d be concerned. But for now for a few days here or there I don’t think you need to stress.

      I overstayed by about ten days once because I miscalculated. Flew out of Madrid and no questions asked. But I prefer not to break the rules, I would just be stressing about getting caught so it wouldn't be that fun to be in Europe illegally. The penalties could be a pretty big fine or banned from Europe in a worst case scenario.

    Kind of surprised you didn’t fly into Tivat to avoid dealing with the absurd Dubrovnik prices. Anyways, since you’re going into inland Montenegro you 100% have to go to Plužine, most incredible combination of green mountains and blue lakes you will ever see.

    Croatia is very expensive. Why do you take a taxi. Isn't there a bus from the airport to the city?... The bus from Dubrovnik to Montenegro is 21 euros for an hour's ride, and in Montenegro from Kotor to Bar is 8 euros, which is 1 and a half hours of driving. Never take a taxi before you have to think and always take the bus because it goes everywhere.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  28 дней назад +2

      I landed at 10pm, the bus didn't leave for another 35 minutes. Too late and too tired to wait, plus then you have to get from the bus station to your hotel. Reception closed at 11 so not worth risking a big hassle trying to check in plus getting there even later when extremely exhausted.
