  • The greatest Mitsubishi you've never heard of....
Where would we be without this little known Mitsubishi, we probably wouldn't have the Lancer Evolution, nor the 4G63 line of engines, yes, the Mitsubishi Starion took lessons learnt from the Lancer EX 2000 rally car and made a street car to rival even porsche, the starion would go on to feature in rallies greatest ever era, group B, but it's demise would not be the end, allowing Mitsubishi to push on and pass this technology onto it's future rally legends, we explore the little known JDM gem that is... The Mitsubishi Starion.

on one hand, its a shame the US, having both the Conquest and the Starion, didn't get the G63B engine, but rather the G54B, a much less capable engine that has pretty minimal ceiling in terms of power without a larger sum of money, that a 63 would not necessarily require. On the other, we have LS swaps and these things can be had for less than 5 grand.

Your wrong the G54B is what created the 4g63 or the Dual overhead cam. HKS chose to modify the G54b Creating the G54BX a Twin cam powerhouse. Again, let me correct you on Something the Stock G54B can make 350 easily on the street. with the Stock throttle body INGECTION which is complete crap. With just forged pistons still running Stock TBI you can make 600hp on E85. with forged piston and MPFI you can make 415 on 91 pump. IF you do rods and pistons the wall is 800hp without extreme racing set up. currently the record is 958hp and 900-foot pound of torque. Street 2.6 also is a low-end engine with 350-450 horse you going to make 440-530-foot pounds of torque. Don't Talk smack about the G54B is was the world's fastest until the 4G engine had been available for 2 year it still held the crown and i think it never fell off the throne. you will see when I'm done with my G54B and everyone realizes what they are capable of doing on pump gas.

Lots of errors in this video. Its a 2.6L G54B motor, not a 2.0L 4G63, those motors came later in the 90-99 Eclipse, Laser and Talon. Secondly, its pronounced COOP, the E is silent.

Thanks for your feedback, for clarity:
Engine capacity differed between markets. American customers received the larger SOHC Astron G54B 2.6 L engine. Most markets received the SOHC 2.0 L Sirius G63B (4G series) engine
      (Wikipedia)
      Coop is a US term.
There are two common pronunciations in English:
/kuːˈpeɪ/ (koo-PAY) - the anglicized version of the French pronunciation of coupé.
/kuːp/ (KOOP) - as a spelling pronunciation when the word is written without an accent.[6][7] This is the usual pronunciation and spelling in the United States,[8] with the pronunciation entering American vernacular no later than 1936[9] and featuring in the Beach Boys' hit 1963 song "Little Deuce Coupe".
      (Wikipedia)
Being English we use the original French meaning and English pronunciation for our global audience, with Coop being an American only saying.
