I grew up in a dry state where alcohol was frowned upon, then my dad moved us to California: what a difference, shocking and a big waste of money and time not to mention all the driving deaths and accidents!

There’s so much goodness to have of life, and alcohol leads to the opposite in many ways!

What a great, practical breakdown of reasons not to drink. Very inspiring and excellent reminders. I'll save this one to come back to every once in a while. Thanks!

Thank you for this Mikey! It’s a new topic for me to cover and I never know how these “controversial,” ideas will be received when I’m going against the norm! So it’s really wonderful to have your feedback 🙏😄

Thanks for this video. I agree with all of your points. I don’t drink alcohol and have no hesitation about my decision to abstain. There are time that other people don’t get it and think that I’m not fun to be around but I’m not the least bit bothered by that. I would much rather mop floors, scoop litter and encourage the kitties at the animal shelter where I volunteer on a Friday night than go to any kind of noisy party. I play Your Are My Sunshine for the cats, give them some treats and try to let them know that they are loved. I leave feeling pretty blissed out and don’t suffer any hangover on Saturday mornings.😹

I made this decision many years ago for similar reasons and never regretted it. I live in the UK so it's very counter-cultural and it's amazing how threatened some people feel by me not drinking.

Yes! I know exactly what you mean. Some people seem offended when I tell them. But, perhaps this is because they know they’d like to not drink too, only they don’t know hot to stop yet.

When the mind sees the drawbacks that mentioned in the video, it could make the decision not to drink. When the mind sees emptiness or non-dual awareness, even for the first time, the transformation is more subtle. No reasoning involved, the mind just doesn't want to consume alcohol. So it's a good test to see if one really sees emptiness or just another meditative experience.

Hey Sonam! Thanks for the nice video :)
I'm curious, could you go over the timelines of your spiritual journey?
How long has it been since you started? At what point did you start meditation/spiritual practice? When/which were the hardest periods? When did you notice a significant transformation took place? At what point did you find that your mood became more or less balanced? How is your struggle now compared to when you just started?
Quite a bit of questions 😃 it would be very valuable to hear about these specifics of your experience

”To drink and to party in my life would be to go out my way to make the qualities of consciousness in my experiences worse”
Couldn’t have said it better myself

Yes. Alcohol has shattered many lives. It is unhealthy. waste of time and money.

Simply put! Facts! But it’s crazy how widely it is still socially accepted and insisted!

I definitely do not like getting drunk to the point of being hungover the next day or puking later in the night (I have never been exposed frat/ extremely masculine parties where there’s violence and danger of assault). However I do think there’s still some value in enjoying a drink slowly while hanging with your friends and listening to some good music, or even going to an event (concert / sports screening) and meeting new people with the same interests while enjoying a drink and having fun dancing

From personal experience think the key thing is that the primary source of entertainment/ fun should be the other thing (your friends, the music, the game you’re watching etc etc) and not just the alcohol you’re consuming

As an aside though, I still think you have presented some very good reasons in this video :)

I definitely didn’t define “Drinking and partying,” clearly, and in my mind I think I am arguing the more extreme versions of it. It seems plausible and probably likely to me that there’s a lot of fine ways to drink and have fun… I just wanted to focus on the other end of things because I don’t feel like those ideas are common place enough :D I like your hunch about the importance of the focus/intention. That seems to make a lot of sense :D And also, in general I don’t want to deny the space for people to genuinely experiment and find their way in this world 😄 Thank you for your conversation 😁

@@SonamHoani one thing I will say for sure is we definitely don’t need to make videos encouraging people to drink so even though your video might be focusing on the more extreme forms of drinking it definitely serves the purpose hahahahaha

It’s so easy to quit if you do it right, it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a dro, what finally did it for me was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal when I ended up go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit, did not need AA meetings or meds either.
