I feel like the tree line rule also helps to give more immersion in the different lands; the atmosphere in the Dark Forest is so different from X-Sector, in part due to there being no signs of the outside world except for the pathways. Really helps sell rides like Wicker Man and Nemesis as themed.
I do feel the biggest drawback to this height rule AT have is it makes the rides quite short in comparison to rides at other parks in the states for example. The Smiler is an exception as it’s a bit longer.
I don’t know if this would be a good or a bad thing, it could mean we’d end up with much more mundane rides, but they would be objectively better. At least our rides are unique now
Anyone else like REALLY REALLY looked at the proposals for the new ride. In the smallest of fonts Alton towers says they are planting oak trees, yew trees and wellingtonia. Wellingtonia is a GIANT SEQUOIA tree and grows quickly to the size of the statue of liberty :D

Loving the new wickerman bedding 🔥🔥 I’d love to maybe see a what if for chessington! Maybe a what if chessington coasters were more thrill/scary rides 😂
I agree that the tree line rule adds to the atmosphere, one of my favorite parts going to an amusement park is seeing the chain lift peak over the tree line. It’s like a hype up before you even enter the parking lot. Even when you’re driving past it it’s like sight seeing.
I’m glad that Towers have the tree line restriction. It forces them to improvise and innovate when building any major coaster. A lot of other parks are more focused on “taller = better” when that necessarily isn’t the case. Cool, you may have a 200ft+ coaster. Does it do anything unique compared to others of the same height? Not always. Towers always have to ensure both the layout and terrain work hand in hand and that’s what I love about it.
6:30 I would not say that advanced personally given that Superman-Ultimate Flight would open at Six Flags Over Georgia three weeks later which was the first to feature the pretzel loop
I don't think a pretzel loop would have been way to advanced for its time considering the first B&M flying coaster with a pretzel loop opened a month later than Galactica.
oblivion would be really scary if it wasn't under ground because when it is underground you don't realise how far the drop is because you can't see it.
I can't really see Oblivion changing that much. John Wardley's vision was to be entering the ground face-first, which no other dive coaster has done since. On the other hand, had there NOT been the height restriction, then we might never have got the B&M dive coaster - coasters could have just got steeper in the way that RMC rides feature 90° drops.
I imagine Oblivion without treeline restrictions would just be Oblivion but taller and maybe with something tall on the other side of the drop like a top-hat or something.
Maybe is Alton Towers made a mountain with cool stuff on and planted a tree on top, maybe could they build higher? I love your cool videos btw. let's get this guy to 50k subscribers!
I honestly think it would take away from the atmosphere. And make the towers, gardens and lawns look less quaint. But “it would be greatly appreciated”never gets old 😂
Considering the first superman clone opened a few weeks after Galactica, it could have definitely had a Pretzel loop, (Tbh it would probably look like a superman clone as they share a ton of elements, minus the Pretzel loop and taller drop)
Life hack; built a massive wooden pillar at flight level 10 and put the old earls branch at the top. That's part of a tree so surely they now have a 1000ft ceiling to work with! Or just stick it on top of Nemmy's crane, they both seem to be round about the same height.
Hey dan, i was chatting to a towers employee yesterday about a few things, they said nemesis (reborn) will be completed by the end of next month and the more breaking news is that project horizon will be SW9
Phantasialand has much the same (and even tighter) restrictions and they are way waaaaay better at it! Look at Taron, Alton could build something that awesome if they wanted to, but they like to faff around with world firsts with absolutely pants short layouts.
What the small population of residents in Alton needs to look at is how much money towers brings into there area in comparison to what they bring. It needs taller rides without a doubt . Went there few months ago again and got bored super quick
It would be better if they went above the tree limits so you can get better views on ride but because they can’t go above the trees that’s what makes the rides so unique!
I would imagine that with Alton tower’s nature to break world records, they would have made the tallest rollercoaster in the uk one of their records a while ago for some secret weapon.
Their next Secret Weapon will be marketed as 'the tallest roller coaster within the tree line height restriction'! Although that sounds something six flags would really do
They just need to introduce some Canadian redwoods to the area which would greatly increase the coaster restriction height without them being seen Will need to wait a good few hundred years before they're fully grown though :/
I’d like to keep the smiler, nemesis, and galactica exactly the same. Exchange Rita for something like lech coaster peaking over the trees. Swap Wickerman for a huge 200ft RMC. A taller version of oblivion with an immelman instead of the overbank. Have thirteen as something similar to Gotham city escape but with a drop track element down onto the swing launch (the downtime would be worth it).
As someone who never was at AT, do you recommend the park to someone who mainly visited all parks in my home country germany? Ok nemesis and smiler are probably the best rides. But beside that: any coaster that is worth to go there? Like galactica, oblivion, wicker man, thirteen etc? And when is the best time to visit the park? I dont like waiting hours in the line for a 20 sec ride :/
i feel like the tree line restriction pushes the ride designers to another level and without it i dont think the alton towers rides would have the uniqueness they have!
I feel like the tree line restrictions kind of add to the atmosphere of the rides like nemesis and oblivion
Ye I like the low to the ground tans under ground elements
Nah I like see big coasters
Ja. Oblivion would be 300 percent worse if it was all underground
I still wonder why this park has a height restriction because it’s literally in the middle of nowhere
@@Phasmowatcherprecisely. It’s literally built near where people live so they want to see scenery not rollercoasters
The restriction really gives the park its character, while limiting them I think it is a really good thing. Awesome video Dan, amazing as usual!
It really does! Thanks so much 😊

That’s just UK rides in general.
at least the rides are free so can't complain there
I don’t know if this would be a good or a bad thing, it could mean we’d end up with much more mundane rides, but they would be objectively better. At least our rides are unique now
SW10 to be themed to a 500ft tall tree so it blends in and doesn't disturb the locals.
😂😂😂
A tower coaster but completely brown with a tree on top ;-;

I have been watching this channel for over a year now and I have not had a single video that I did not like
id love to see them build even further under ground to make a taller but still compact ride, i think it could be pretty cool
This video had me in bits. Love finally finding a genuinely funny UK coaster youtuber

Remove the trees and now the tree line is ground level and everything needs to be underground lol
Video idea: What if Thorpe park could only build under the treeline
Great idea! Shall note it down! 🙏🏻
This would actually work if Alton Towers planted some Giant Redwood Trees around the park
Thats actually a really good idea
oblivion would be really scary if it wasn't under ground because when it is underground you don't realise how far the drop is because you can't see it.
the rides are still great even if they cant build above the trees.

The smiler actually only had two lift hills because of the height restrictions
I don’t know why but I absolutely love nemesises little first drop 😭

@@themeparkegghead5512he was talking about nemesis, the part right before the corkscrew

AT just have to dig deeper if they want taller rides, which I'm fine with, makes it unique.
Life hack; built a massive wooden pillar at flight level 10 and put the old earls branch at the top. That's part of a tree so surely they now have a 1000ft ceiling to work with! Or just stick it on top of Nemmy's crane, they both seem to be round about the same height.

You should do what if thope park has the tree line restriction
I think they could rmc wickerman and it would work

You my friend have just earned a new subscriber
Damn, Rita would finally be a good ride, I thought it was impossible
if they didn’t have a higher restriction we could have a B&M Giga
3:00 : "622 mm hole" I literally cant find wich aspect of oblivion he was referring to.
I've never been on Nemesis before- I'm hoping it is good when it reopens and when I ride on it. (It's too far away- 4 hours away, in the car.)
My solution to the problem....plant taller trees, or do some genetic modification to the trees to make them taller
Thumbnail Rita be looking like Xcelerator
1:21 Rita is the worlds first jumping roller coaster if you think about it!
What the small population of residents in Alton needs to look at is how much money towers brings into there area in comparison to what they bring. It needs taller rides without a doubt . Went there few months ago again and got bored super quick
6:29 the pretzel loop debuted the same year
It would be better if they went above the tree limits so you can get better views on ride but because they can’t go above the trees that’s what makes the rides so unique!
I bet Alton towers would've carried 'tallest ride' title.
Could you do a video on what if Thorpe park had the height restrictions that Alton towers has. What like to see what your idea of the rides would be.
This is the funniest coaster video I’ve ever seen, it’s not even meant to be funny 😭
In an answer ..."the Ropers would be pissed"
I would imagine that with Alton tower’s nature to break world records, they would have made the tallest rollercoaster in the uk one of their records a while ago for some secret weapon.
I can think of only one ride that ever went above the tree line. That was the thunder looper and that was removed because of that very reason.
Best RUclipsr ever
Agreed
Not dan imagining the smiler with 40 inversions
What if Thorpe park had a height restriction?😮

Dan what about a video where u talk about if Thorpe park had a height restriction
The tree restriction gives the atmosphere
I feel like Oblivion would be a good fit to be the tallest in the park so it's not a bad idea to have it mostly above ground in my opinion.
They just need to introduce some Canadian redwoods to the area which would greatly increase the coaster restriction height without them being seen

what is the coaster at 5:56?
I think the smilers compactness gives it more of a hipmotizatoin feel
Amazing video! You should do if thorpe park had Alton towers height restrictions 😂 🎉
Thank you!! That’s a great idea!! 🔥
Love the video!
Looking forwards to when Alton Towers plants a 200ft tall tree so they can include the UKs only B&M Hypercoaster
If they were able to build above the trees they would've probably broken the big ones height record many years ago with a B&M Hyper.
can you do a video as a what if alton towers and Thorpe park where the same theme park if that makes sense
Think they should have planted some redwoods back in the 80’s
If a B&M Dive Coasters had no inversions, then they’ll have chamshell lap bars instead of the over-the-shoulder restraints.
I’d like to keep the smiler, nemesis, and galactica exactly the same.
Exchange Rita for something like lech coaster peaking over the trees.

If anyone wants to know ritas unique feature is the first launch coaster without a top hat

U could do same video but reverse what if Thorpe park had height restrictions
i feel like the tree line restriction pushes the ride designers to another level and without it i dont think the alton towers rides would have the uniqueness they have!
You should do this in Planet Coaster.
as person with scare of heights Alton Towers seems like park for me
I reckon thorpe park is where they throw everything that doesn't fit in Alton Towers
