    Regarding you saying that Portugal should change to be in Spain's timezone ... Spain used to be in the same timezone as Portugal but Franco changed it so he can be in the same timezone as the skinny mustache man ... so yeah..

    • @estranhokonsta
      @estranhokonsta 11 месяцев назад +3

      Yep. And portugal is on +0 utc. They probably showed +1 because of summer time? Another thing is that the greenwich meridian pass rigth trough the east of spain and the west of france. So spain and france have many more reasons to be +0 than the pirtuguese. Spain and France did it this way because of political reason as is normal in these weird situations.

      The info in the video is wrong and this guy, who supposedly is a historian, didn't even bother to check in which time zone we are.

    21:37 - This is not true. Eventhough the two words sound similar, "arigato" comes from old Japanese and already existed long before the portuguese arrived in Japan.

      Yess, there are a couple hundred of Japanese words that come from Portuguese, but Arigato is not one of them

    Portugal timezone is gmt meridian, I don't think it is wrong.

    Thanks for the reaction, If Portugal went with +1 the sunrise and sunset times would be so off... maybe just because I'm used to it but it does make sense if you look at a graph of daylight sunhours time

    I had a chance to visit some of carthage & celtic ruins when i was living in Portugal couple of years ago but unlike Spain, you don't see that much of an Arab influence in architecture or even culture (apart from the regions bordering Andalusia which is mostly south)
    That hipster bit at the end of the history section is no joke, they've really come out as a "hipster nation" in the last decade

    About the "dumb" time zones... What's dumb is that the UK is 1 hour behind France, or rather, Western Europe is 1 hour ahead of the UK despite being on the same longitude.
    Portugal 🇵🇹 also has 2 archipelagos in the middle of the Atlantic. Portugal's time zome brings the Azores and Madeira closer to Europe. So there you go. Not so dumb afterall.
    And as for the "mic drop" over driving on the right side of the road... The cars drive on the right, but all trains, including the Lisbon subway, drive on the left. Probably a holdover from when the British helped build Portugal's first rail lines. The roads switched, but the trains didn't. You might want to pick up that mic, amigo.

    Timezone argument 'oh that's fucking dumb' - yes it is, but not for the reason you may think, given that Lisbon is in the same meridian as London, thus explaining the timezone. Spain, however changed their timezone during the Franco's regime to match that of Nazi Germany. As an Historian, that should be something worth researching. Also, how come a Historian rates music and food as cultural staples over the country's History? Are you sure you are a Historian?

    Portugal did not have any "reconquista", Portugal had "conquista" of the territory occupied by the Arabs/Moors.

    • @richlisola1
      @richlisola1 10 месяцев назад

      Nonsense, the Arabs and Moors overthrew the rightful sovereign Visigoth Kingdom, Portugal and Spain were its heirs and successor kingdoms, and so it was a reconquest and eviction of the foreigners back to North Africa.

    • @lxportugal9343

      That's just playing with rethoric.
      People that lived in nowadays Portugal were invaded... and they recovered their land back

    • @richlisola1
      @richlisola1 10 месяцев назад

      The Moors conquered Iberia from the Regnum Visigotem, then killed off the Visigoth kingship and wiped out any towns that fought back, then pushed a false religion on the dwellers.
      New kingdoms emerged from the ashes of the once united Visigoth Kingdom, bearing Christendom’s banner, and slowly purged Iberia of the foreign dynasties. From whence they came, back to North Africa. They RECONQUERED their land. Portugal was the first of the political entities to emerge from the Reconquista that live on today.

    • @s.baldrick870
      @s.baldrick870 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@richlisola1 "Reconquista" makes sense if Portugal had lost land, Portugal did not lose territory to the Arabs/Moors because it did not yet exist.

    • @richlisola1
      @richlisola1 10 месяцев назад

      @@s.baldrick870 Don’t be dense. Portugal and all the Christian kingdoms that emerged after the Kingdom of Asturias are successor states to the Visigoth Kingdom. The Christians.
      You’re aware of Neo-Gothism, the concept of a successor state.
