I'm from Ireland and some of us from the far west have Spanish blood that comes from shipwrecked Armada sailors that washed up on the rocks, or plucked out and assimilated. Their stories are part of our local folklore.
The story is nice, but it's not very realsitic. However, Ireland and Spain have ties that go way back in history, sure you've heard about the Book of Invasions. Due to the leyendary Spanish origin of Irish Clan's leading families, Irish were considered Spaniards the very second they arrived in Spanish territory.
Even further back. The Celts arrived from Galicia, Spain thousands of years ago. There are quite a few people with Iberian DNA.
@@goodaimshield1115 Right. Some time ago Irish people were considered as "the Spaniards of the North" in Spain, with right to live and settle in Spain.
I think the story about spanish Armada is beautiful, but isn't correct. It's probably more plausible common Celtic ancestors or immigrations. I'm southern spaniard and When I did a DNA test I had results 21% Celtic (Irish/scottish/Welsch).
I'm Spanish and I descend from one of the Wild Geese that fled to Spain to keep fighting the English

maaan such a shame they didn't include greece along with Italy in the friendzone section, literally every spaniard puts Greece at the same level of Italy, maybe only the language separating us more with you than with Italy. Love greece from Spain!
@@Ambitwine I think it's because most Spaniards barely come in contact with Greeks compared to Italians. Out of the three Northern Mediterranean peninsulas, the Italian is in the center, while the Balkan is to the east, and the Iberian is to the west. This gives Italy the advantage of being the geographic center of the Mediterranean, hence why it would have more contact and ties with other Mediterranean civilizations than Spain. Greece and Southern Italy are especially very tied because of the Greco-Roman heritage since Magna Graecia, not to mention a lot of Southern Italians have some Greek DNA. Spain was definitely a lot further from Greece, hence why the diluted sense of familiarity.

Occitan (Aranese) is also a co-official language of Spain. It's official in the whole territory of Catalonia, even though it's just spoken in a small region called Val d'Aran.
Silbo gomero isn't a language, but a code. That means you can "whistle" in Spanish, English, French... it's just a way to turn spoken sounds into whistles.
As an Occitan Frenchman, I find it sad to see that Catalonia respects and preserves the Occitan language way more than we ever have. The French republic was built on an idea of extreme uniformity, and that translates through our terribly exclusionary language policy that has eradicated almost any language that was historically spoken on the mainland.

I think without Spain, the concept of The Philippines won’t be what it is today, we might have ended up being different island nations.
It is what it is, I guess.
First Filipino constitution was written in Spanish, Ritzal wrote in Spanish too.
You're welcome to come to Spain at anytime, we won't ever forget our brothers in Asia :,)
The Spanish language remained official here until 1980's where it was demoted as a recognized language. Clearly, Spain, our corrupt politicians already know their more favorite parent.

I'm Greek and I have to say Spain has the best food I have ever eaten. Wear that badge proudly, since I have been to Italy several times.
Are we really worthy of that badge coming from a greek person?
I believe in *Mediterranean supremacy* no need for individual badges
@@Sergio-wn4sp Me too
But can any Mediterranean food truly top a hearty Halushki or Bigos stew (not from Poland but have heavy Polish heritage) ? Can there ever be any real winners in the food wars?
@@kingdede9901 I'd love to answer but I have no idea what that is. I guess everyone's biased on the topic so just enjoy food

Friendzone 🇪🇸🇮🇹🇵🇹🇬🇷🇮🇪
As a Spaniard I can assure you that our friendzone is actually pretty vast and twisted. I have really missed countries like Greece 🇬🇷 (they're cousins, maybe not as close as Italy, but still part of our southern family, and for us family is FAMILY💞) in fact, our accents are really similar, we both are extremely passionate countries, and we love visiting each other; or maybe Ireland 🇮🇪 (they're like us but in a northern european version: friendly, nice, fun and loud -while partying), we also have many historical and cultural bonds (including folklore and legends), especially if we talk about territories like Galicia, Asturias or the Basque Country. There are also many other connections that have deepened our relationship like the maritime trade (especially with Galway, with its Spanish Arch💚), the Black Irish or the Spanish Armada.

Fun fact: that fresco shown at 23:47 when Art was talking about how the bullfighting goes back to the Roman times is actually Minoan. This is how we are calling a civilisation centred on the modern Greek island of Crete, that predates even Ancient Greece let alone Rome.
Additionally, the inscription in the Italy-Spain friendship section is in Byzantine Greek!
Spain is great and rich with a tremendous history
