So I am gonna say something, and I think this will be true for most of you non-Sudanese folk, the amount of effort & time put into researching this episode was absolutely massive to say the least, and I wasn't fully appreciative of it until it came to my country, everything was spot on accurate, beautifully presented, and the girls were adorable and made the whole episode surprisingly fun, many thanks to everyone who contributed to this in any way, shape or form, especially Barbs, keep up the good work and I hope my country will heel soon and return to its former glory years.

Fun fact: There is a small people group in Sudan called the Magyarabs (around 7000 people). They are a mix of Hungarians (escaped soldiers from the Ottoman army) and local population.

The sandstorm season also happens throughout the Sahel and west Africa. They are trying to solve it by planting large amounts of trees
It also happens here in Egypt but we have a different name for it and I remember at school they said it came to us from Sudan

I stayed two months in Sudan back in 2018 (Khartoum, Kafori). Really nice and hospitable people. Wish all the best to my Sudanese brothers 🇸🇾❤🇸🇩
There’s a place in northern Minnesota called “Soudan” that was ironically named for Sudan in the late 1800s. It was super cold there, but someone named it for the African region of Sudan. There is an iron mine there that you can tour too.

I grew up as an American in Saudi Arabia and there were a lot of Sudanese families in my neighborhood. I made great friendships with many of those families

Sudan is my second country and I loved my 6 year period of studying In Ahfad university in Sudan, Omdurman...even though I'm not Sudanese, I defo identify with it's people and culture...a very beautiful country indedd❤❤❤❤

I’m an Iraqi guy and I have no idea about Sudan till I met some of them in my university,
They are really nice people.
In Saudi Arabia, they are in every corner sort of speak. Moreover, a few of my teachers are sudanese.
I am Pakistani, i spent 3 months in Sudan.
Sudanese people are best in the world. They are humble, helpful and very happy.

Man I remember back then in the Congo episodes when u said just wait till we get to the sudan twins, damn I never knew this day would come
I was in Sudan from Feb 1984 to 1985, 1 year and 2 days, working in the Kenana Sugar Factory. I visited Khartoum, our travel from the capital to the factory had a compulsory stop in Wad Madani, I went to the city of Kosti a few times, Rabak also, learned some arabic (I had many Sudanese people working in my team) and loved my time there, my first professional work. From the greens of the sugar plantations to the browns of the desert, the night sounds of the frogs from the White Nile, the stars in the clear sky at night, the crazy days of Ramadan while working in the factory. Wonderful Sudanese people I met there.

This was an excellent episode. It was great to hear Ruba and Methany take the lead and everything fit together pretty much seamlessly. I think there was also a good balance talking about the conflict in the recent past, acknowledging it without dwelling on it or minimising it. I remember there was an issue where someone misnamed a missle program called "Sedan" "Sudan", and it caused an international issue, due to darfur.
When I was younger, I used to think _sedan_ was spelled with a U.
Whoever's the owner of the white Sudan, you left your lights on.
It was actually the Sedan Atomic Test in Nevada that created the Sedan Crater, the largest man made hole on the planet. The insane idea was, “hey, can we use a nuke to excavate large amounts of soil?” Technically yes it did, but it also made the area highly radioactive and not inhabitable. Plus all the radioactive soil that came out landed in Utah, creating a higher cancer rate around the town of St. George.

Sudan has so much potential in being a regional powerhouse if only they invested in themselves more.

8. Sudan is swimming in oil and natural resources
That used to be the case with the last point.
South sudan took 80% of the entire land.
Some parts of the oil in sudan has been sabotaged(maybe from ksa or/and USA)
And they can't open the seal anymore...literally.

Thats cool we kinda have a "haboob" season in Arizona as well its really our monsoon season but as a storm rolls in it creates massive dust storms that literally will engulf mountains, and the Phoenix skyline. If your interested in seeing that just look up Phoenix Haboobs and look fir the one with Downtown Phoenix in thumbnail with a wall of dust approaching.
As a fellow Arizonan I attest that what you're saying is the truth. Our dust storms are quite impressive to see from the distance. I've seen numerous walls of dust in the past years. Living in AZ sure is awesome!
Grade 10 plus in Habbob scale is called Kattaha in Sudan that is extremely dark grainy and fine sand blown wind storm

As an Arizonan whom is a Phoenixian Native (Firey Bird as our nickname of our U.S. State of Arizona), I totally had to comment immediately when the both of you brought up about Haboobs! 😲
We get them every Summer during our Monsoon Season here outside the Sonoran Desert in the Valley of the Sun along Dust Devils which are tiny yet adorable tornadoes that only list around 20 seconds or less when there are strong gusts of wind in warm weather.
I would freak out and tell my mum about them after I come back home from school on the bus and would even try to chase them down to be in one as silly as it sounds. 😁
As another Arizonan living here in Tempe the haboob thing really hit home when he brought it up. I was also born here and have seen a number of them before. I wish you friendly greetings from Tempe!

Really good episode but just some corrections:
•The Jirtik is a tradition in all of Sudan
•The Jirtik is not the preparation of the bride for her wedding that is called the “Habis” but the Jirtik is a tradition where rich perfumed powders are put on the couples head
•Milk spitting represents the couples love “pure as milk”
•There are lots of traditions you forgot in the culture segment such as:
-Bridal dance
-Women’s drumming
-Circumcision celebrations for young boys involving henna and parties
And lots more
I am not trying to be negative I think the episode is great but just more things could have been added and a lot of mistakes were made
