O ly time I and my wife travelled by Amtrak CZ was in 2009. From SF Emeryville all the way to Chicago. Instead of 50 hrs it took 57 hrs. But the American outback, Utah desert, snowy mountains, great rivers, ( Colorado, Missouri, Mississippi) and bridges, prairies, barns, sheer beauty of America was really once in a lifetime experience for an elderly couple over sixty. One thing struck me though, there were hardly any people to be seen in the towns and stations we passed, unlike India. Cheapest way to see America is by Amtrac cross country trains.
I saw the Auto Train last month for the second time in my life passing through North Charleston SC headed north. I was thrilled and excited to finally see it moving (when I saw it in Virginia sitting on the tracks, I was on my way home on a bus tour). I hoped to be able to catch sight of it again!
For us the AUTO TRAIN is the way to travel from the east coast to central Florida. Why should I do the driving? Instead we put the car on the train...then we settle back into our reserved seat and relax....16 hours later we're in Florida. We've been fed ,and we've been relaxing. No stoplights ...no traffic backups or congestion. It's the way to go.
These are the cars (Superliners) that are used on the runs out West. They are used on this run as there are no tunnels or obstructions as there are North of DC on the Northeast Corridor. Pretty nice overall.
Based on the time that this was taken the train was running maybe five hours late. Perhaps for that reason a second crew change south of Florence was necessary.

Florence is the normal spot for a swap in either direction. A NB crew going on the law would have been almost unheard of there unless there was a derailment or a collision between trains and vehicles. Or track work.
Normally it does, unless the train super late. About two years the crew change was done in Sumter, SC as the train was rerouted through Cayce and Columbia. From Devine Jct in Columbia the train went north on Eastover Sub to Sumter then turned and went to Lane, SC and on into Florence.

Awsome train. Impressive loco's. But why a crew swap out here, instead at a station where it is due to stop anyway?
Not sure. Maybe it was most convenient for the crews to swap there?
@@gatortrainchaser2080 The crews probably saw they would be going over their time limit if they waited til the next station to perform a crew swap. Gotta do what ya gotta do in order to stay within regulations and keep FRA off your tail.
I was wondering with that type locomotive could the engineer just walk through the first loco to the second loco sense they are back to back, instead coming out to walk to the second loco!.... just curious,... I love that loco!
@@derrickwoodard461 I am not sure, but the way through can be quite narrow and hot and loud. Than it is much faster more convinient to walk along the loco on the outside.
On this particular AMTRAK route, there are only TWO stations -- Lorton VA and Sanford FL; with a refuel/recrew stop at Florence SC. Any problems that arise forcing the train crew to exceed their hours of service will cause a crew change in strange locations, such as this.
в одном поезде и пассажирские и грузовые вагоны ?
Where are the stewards, last train I was on the were weary bikinis, then stop at McDonald’s and get a happymeal
HA HA.....
