Wow the title wasn't kidding that was a serious coal hoppers trains All these engines front lead, middle dpu's & the end pushing. Incredible 😮 I enjoyed watching this. Great locations Darryl. 👍
the thing i hate is people complaining about railroads blocking the roads, guess who was there first, trains before the roads, love to the CN/GTW family
I haven't been watching trains in Jonesboro lately which is almost at the other end of this run, but gee. Makes me want to eat at that resturant again and see what goes through on the old run from New Orleans to KC. Jonesboro is about half way. Maybe I should film one over there again.
Wow first one was a beast of a train 🚆 they were bouncing around on the 2nd train, I'm pretty sure people get impatient at crossings 😂, mega video 📹 pal, awesome 👌 👏 👍 capture,
Another great premier Darryl of my favorite trains of all the coal trains, and those were three monster madness train right there baby. So as always, my friend, you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Great Vid, thanks for posting. WOW! Most I ever got was less than 140 on the RF&P mixed freight headed north. Still, I have only been there 6 times so we shall see.
Wow, as a German, I have to say it feels quite strange to see such long trains, with locomotives even attached in the middle and at the rear of the consist but it‘s pretty cool. Great video !
The first one was Georgia Power Plant Scherer (mainly RWSX) empties likely headed to south GA for the usual winter storage. When people here turn off the A/C, there's less power consumption, and thereby less coal burned. They usually store at least three trainsets on the abandoned south GA mainlines every winter, and the shortlines charge them storage fees.
This catch reminds me of when I was rail fanning with a friend and we had a long coal trainrip right past us. And it was spewing coal into our faces, the rear dpu was black for one of them plus we were near a yard
Yep 5000 cars together 10 miles long. The big blank blank jerk that started all this PSR BS. However I enjoyed watching Darryl and have a wonderful rest of your day evening. Steve
When I saw the title, I thought it was actually 3 of these trains put together instead of just two (which, by the way, I have heard of that actually happen, but never seen it). Still yet, you're absolutely right, Steve, as one of the guys at Thayer said, these railroads are "metrics driven" companies now, its all about profits, everything else, including customer service takes a back seat!
@@randallellison6421 I know first hand I had to work for that SOB Harrison when he was on our railroad the Canadian Pacific. Worst time to work on the railroad during my railroad career.
@@StormySkyRailProductions just from reading other people's stories about working under him, I can see why he was nicknamed "Head Hunter Harrison" by some people!
Imagine if this train broke a knuckle and disconnected towards the rear 🤦♂️ I'd hate to be an engineer just for this particular train 😅. Great catch 👍
1st train: 276 units, including locomotives. I couldn't count the 2nd train due to a video cut. 3rd train: 282 units, including locomotives! That is the longest train I have ever counted!
I love getting to see the extra long coal trains when they come through Colorado along BNSF and UP's Joint Line. It is usually BNSF that is running them heading north through Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Denver. Luckily those trains can usually move at track speed so they come through at 40 t0 45MPH.
most engineers sound the morse for "Q" at RR crossings. What is the background for this? " -------- -------- --- ------------- " It's something in Latin for clear the way, or something like that.
It was brutal. I was counting to see how many cars were actually in the consist. I lost track 2/3rds the way through and I had to rewind and start counting again🤪🤪
You don’t want that train to breakdown in downtown Woodward Oklahoma. It will block EVERY crossing in town and there’s NOT any overpasses or underpasses for at least 8 miles.
I've actually assisted trains like this being assembled at Thayer, Missouri (why they do it there, I have no idea), they're definitely NOT a crew favorite!
@KCTopDawg not always. Here on the Thayer Subdivision, they'll run as two separate trains from Memphis, Tennessee all the way to Thayer, MO. Once at Thayer, they'll generally have the first train go to MP 335.1 and tie it down until the outbound crew is ready and the second train arrives. Once the outbound crew is on the head end of the first train, the second train is brought in behind the first and coupled up. Its at which point they'll have a responder aid in setting up the train along with the crew on the second train where the lead motors on that train becomes part of the mid train DPU consist (BNSF will typically operate these trains in a 1×2×1 configuration while the remaining units are offline). Once the outbound crew has the new consist setup and everything is tested, the train is ready to depart for Springfield! Because of the excessive lengths of these double empty coal trains, they effectively become a Z train and have top priority as they are nearly double the length of most sidings on the Thayer North Sub.

@@KCTopDawg My pleasure Darryl, you're welcome.
Before I retired from CN Rail, 2 units front, 2 units middle and 2 units rear. 10 thousand feet long and 30 thousand tons of potash. And run at 60 mph
Whoa! Potash is heavy
You an engineer I was .
Great track is the key

Well that title was a lie! lol 😂but enjoyed the video!
In what way?
@KCTopDawg the way you titled made everyone think there was 25 locomotives in ONE consist. You got me as well
Hey Darryl, have you ever caught one of those MONSTERS, going up that hill in Gardener , that you film at a lot!!!??😃
No because those run on the Scott and not the Emporia sub.
Glad I'm not the poor bloke waiting to cross at the level crossing! 😅
