Ambient sound of the Tornado at ~ 6:00 is awesome and unnerving. There is a visceral reaction to the menace it adds to the images. Sound is the missing element in most tornado videos, because of talking, recording from the interior of a car or-get this-music. Well done, Pecos Hank.
There is background music in most of his videos, a lot of it if not all, he does himself. Still no word on whether he can play Classical Gas though, lolz
YES! And it's eerily reminiscent of the tornado sound from "The Wizard of Oz"--in retrospect I'm impressed all over again with that scene, which still actually spooks me quite a lot. Another video where you can really hear the tornado is one of the videos from the Tuscaloosa tornado of 2011--the one recorded by two dudes who were just hanging out when the tornado came and tore the roof off their house, with them barely getting down to the basement in time. Amazing, menacing sounds in that one, recommended.
Your videos actually help me out so much with my depression and anxiety. Whenever I feel like I'm in a downward spiral, I come here, and my mental health stabilises.

Right there with you, mm. I find it therapeutic to feel humbled... to be reminded that there are things I am powerless to control, and the best way to handle them isn't by freaking out, but rather backing away and observing them with calm curiosity, looking for a lesson to learn. And then Hank's humor comes in adding just the right amount of levity. :-)
I was having no complex issues before watching this video, a bit stressed but nothing uncommon. After viewing this video I feel warm and content. I came to see if anybody else felt the same. It’s wonderful not being alone so to speak.
I've not seen any other chaser consistently make videos that are presented in such a calm, informative manner. Instead of the usual chaotic, loud, panicked screams accompanied by the wobbly shots. Even when it's a murky, rain wrapped blob of a tornado, all Hanks shots are still and clear. He's a legend. O and im sure there are other chasers with quality footage, but I've not seen it. Yet! Hope you're good.
The fact that you don't yell to add drama actually makes it more dramatic. The fact that you don't freak out about every little thing lets me know that when you are saying you're too close, you are indeed too close. I appreciate your calm demeanor that actually reflects the danger that you are or aren't in.

Congratulations Hank, you've done it. Everyone tries to capture the ominous roar of the beast, and it always sounds like strong wind blowing across a microphone. Your video is textbook for what one actually sounds like. It's like a rattlesnake, once you hear one for the first time, the next time you don't even have to see him to know exactly what is making that noise. Thank you for sharing this remarkable footage
Smaller tornadoes can sound like a waterfall, a jet engine, or a swarm of bees. When one was near me in Calhan, CO on 8/9/04, it was a rope maybe a few yards wide at the ground and had a path of a quarter mile long, it sounded like a waterfall until it hit a power line, and then it dissipated soon after. The funnel cloud however, remained aloft as the storm passed over town, and a pretty noticeable drop in pressure was observed, almost enough to pop your ears. Apparently, the storm had enough rotation to keep it together, but not enough RFD present to continue tornadoing, a very good thing that afternoon
I just read your comments guys and I rewatched the video again with my headphones. You are right, it's a characteristic sound that this tornado made! So thanks for these comments!

Sometimes I’ll listen to them when I’m trying to sleep because it makes me feel less lonely and have something positive to feel asleep too. He’s just really calming.
I still gave you a thumbs up. Even though it’s almost like listening to the golf. At the same time there is so much in general loud and irritating people at work or when you come home or even when you’re just out at the supermarket as I struggle to contain myself when moms have their kids and they’re all screaming or asking for what they want and the mom is doing her best but of course with a raised voice and I’m just thinking how the hell can I get out of here fast enough!

The wind speeds and debris. At 200-300mph, it picks up pavement, vaporizes wood home structures, and pretty much destroys anything it comes in contact with.
Ahmed saeed that’s actually very possible if you’re in the path without shelter. There are videos of tornados picking up semi trailers and train cars and lifting them into the sky. So a human would be nothing.

I've only recently discovered your channel. I love watching tornado footage, but often I find they are overwhelming. Not the footage itself, but the narration that happens. Yours, though, are so poetic, relaxing...like the Bob Ross of storm chasing
That is the perfect way to describe Hank. He's so wholesome just like Bob Ross. He even includes little animal friends sometimes, just like the happy little cloud master himself.
*Tornado Siren Goes Off* StormChaser1:I hear a tornado siren! Let's Look For It! StormChaser2:I see the tornado! Let's go chase it! Both Stormchasers:YAY! *Tornado vanishes* Both StormChasers:Awww...Time too chase another tornado in a completely different state!
Non rain/fog wrapped tornados are my favorite. You can clearly see the funnel cloud just spinning and destroying everything in its path. I love your content and have never seen a single man do this as well as you.
This Friday marks 3 years since it happened. I still have a video from when it happened and when there was 3 tornados at once near our casino 💀 Thanks, Hank, for giving our little town some fame and for giving such astounding commentary. You’re a real one.
I have a huge fear of bad storms and tornados. I can keep calm enough to make sure I’m safe, even when driving. But serious anxiety gets even when the wind picks up too strong. Your videos seriously help! From being more knowledgeable on tornados and getting to observe them calmly it just helps in so many ways. The way you capture them is beautiful. Thank you!
I just found you last night. These are great. I lived through the Limon, CO. Tornado, 1990. No fatalities but MUCH damage to downtown and, of course trailer parks. Thank you for your vids. Best I've EVER seen in my 61 yrs.
Hanks friend: “Hey Hank what’re you doing?” Hank: “Just up in Canada at the moment having lunch at a restaurant, what’s up?” Hanks Friend: “You’re missing this beautiful, massive Tornado down here.” Hank: 6:51 (in the white car)
As someone from a very tornado prone area (love Oklahoma, am I right?) tornadoes have always been a terrifying but fascinating thing. Most storm chasers are really annoying, but I love watching you because you're able to give the storm life and a personality. You and your videos are truly wonderful!
Because most storm chaser’s don’t have the experience like Hank does and the patients. Most chasers I have seen want to be the first there and don’t care about anyone else’s safety. I have seen too many accidents because of selfish untrained chasers.
How do you not have millions of subscribers? I swear you're one of the most calmest dudes when you're literally right next to a beast! Probably one of the most horrifying and exhilarating experiences all at once. 👍
3 years ago and this is still my favorite video on the internet. I cant believe something like this existed in nature. Its unreal and fascinating. Amazing work as always man❤
Since I got a set of Sony WH1000-XM4 wireless headphones (in downtown Seoul - which is like living in the future!), I am appreciating your audio just as much as your video! Thank you kindly, as always, Mr. The Pecos. Your content is 100% pure, concentrated awesome: Just add RUclips, and stir! Edit: At 4K, and with a litre of Soju in me, I feel like I'm riding in the passenger seat! I'm almost sad we get about one small tornado each decade in New Zealand.
Thomas Harbauer Actually the first thing that came to mind from your comment was the WMD that is launched from space that can potentially do more damage than a 20 megaton or so nuclear bomb... Rods of God...
This was like that moment when the most beautiful person you ever seen walks in the room and you are just stun locked at their beauty. This tornado was just incredible and your footage was amazing, what a treat!!! Fantastic work Hank
When it switches frames at 3:11, the debris at the ground looks like it's spinning the opposite way of the tornado. It's so hard for my mind to process and make me actually see it spinning the right way. Must be some type of illusion... ...Or I'm just stupid lol.
Thank you Pecos Hank for doing what you do. You are very brave for chasing tornadoes. Thank you for being you… you are a very chilled and relaxed guy… your videos make storm chasing fun but more like watching a documentary.

Tonii Curtis Smith i dont remember the link but it said best tornado footage ever just wacth there was also a vid of the mrytle beach tornado somewhere
How heart-breakingly beautiful. In the beginning as it is forming it looks like a dancer bending and weaving in the sky. I do have a question though, Perhaps it is because most tornado feet are obscured by debris or rain, but I have never seen that the rotation on the ground begins before the cloud comes down. Maybe because I haven't seen any videos as good as yours? Anyway, that must mean that the air circulation is already in progress on the ground so does that mean the funnel is invisible for some reason?
Yes, the rotating column of air is often invisible. When that column picks up dust and debris, it often then becomes visible. The condensation funnel, or the part of the tornado visible as a cloud is often much thinner than the actual circumference of the defined tornado boundary.
Hats off to you guys. This is not for the faint hearted and I’m certain that the videos and data collected will help scientists in decreasing the deaths and destruction that these admittedly beautiful monsters cause. Much respect from the West Indies.
You know what I appreciate about you, Hank? You actually let us hear the tornado. Most videos is just people saying "omg can you hear that? Listen you guys! It's roaring!" And they don't give you a chance to hear it because they're gasbagging over the sound. Which I get why. It's much louder irl so you'd think the camera will pick up on it and they're probably nervous/exhilarated. However I just really want to thank you. You don't hear it much but I think hearing a tornado adds to the experience.
The tornado that is already touched down is just PERFECT you see, I’ve been studying tornados for about 2 1/2 years now, so I am very interested in your channel, I recently subscribed but I am subscribed on another account aswell, keep up the good work hank!
That thing looks fucking horrifying! Here in the UK we get tiny whirlwinds up to my knees that last for 5 seconds....but then again everything here is unimpressive and shit.
Diseased Walrus Dude, wrong. If you were there on the 19th of August when the 1,500 mile wide atlantic storm hit, you would know we can get some pretty bad weather .I even saw a HUGE funnel cloud. It was also spinning, but sadly it didnt touch down because the terrain isnt flat.
Here in the U.S., everything is unimpressive to us. Maybe we get a few interesting things, like these tornadoes and volcanoes every once in a while, but it's mainly scary rather than cool. Tornadoes and hurricanes are terrible to us rather than interesting and, I do admit, I am VERY interested in volcanoes, but we live under the calderas of the largest volcano in the world, and if that thing goes off, we're screwed. The calderas are in Montana - Wyoming - Idaho, but if that monster erupted then we would still get about 1-3 mm of ash here in Georgia, which is on the opposite side of the country.
Hank you should make a trip up to my Station here in western south dakota during some of the storms, you talk about conception of the gods, i call it his masterpiece.
Oh my god Hank, when you said you saw some of the most gorgeous tornadoes this season, you weren't kidding. I'm honestly in awe by this for it seems so unreal yet it is very real.
Have to say Hank. One of the best channels on RUclips by far. A pleasure to watch and listen, you are one of the good guy's. Much respect for saving the wildlife as well.
Most certainly seemed to not move, or move very slowly... I also was able to tell that the funnel never got any bigger or stronger, just more visible to the unaided eye. Still, I like how you speak softly and allow us to hear the ambiance...
i love these vids so much. I’m from Southwest missouri and live about 25 miles from Joplin so ever since the tornado there on may 22nd i’ve been hooked about learning everything about them that I can and your vids are always a joy to watch.

The videos is quite relaxing without screams and loud sirens , it lets you enjoy the beauty of mother nature.
You mean the destruction of mother nature... Right?
Those people directly underneath are out of their mind! Lol
That sounds about right
yeah their mind is in a different planet
They have T.I.V's
They are adrenaline junkies, they have fun their own way and studying the tornado too.
none of them are "directly underneath".

Best I've EVER seen in my 61 yrs.
i never thought I'd ever be interested in watching storm chasing videos yet here I am watching you almost every day😂❤

I always come back to this video. This is definitely one of the best you've ever captured.
How do you not have millions of subscribers? I swear you're one of the most calmest dudes when you're literally right next to a beast! Probably one of the most horrifying and exhilarating experiences all at once. 👍

Thomas Harbauer i was thinking about the WMD, not a reproductive organ.

"Susan, go get my pants" - quote from the Columbus Nebraska tornado video if I'm correct.
And he sounds just like a cartoon charicter from the Simpsons with his tone in wich he said it.
Thought I was the only one that got the reference
Yeah, I got that immediately. That was an amazing video as well.
Yes! I laughed out loud at that reference.

When it switches frames at 3:11, the debris at the ground looks like it's spinning the opposite way of the tornado. It's so hard for my mind to process and make me actually see it spinning the right way. Must be some type of illusion...
...Or I'm just stupid lol.
when things spin fast enough they start appearing to spin the opposite direction
Neil Hatrick Harris it’s not, the near side is spinning left to right, the far side right to left
wait a second-
I saw that-
*trippy*
Thank you Pecos Hank for doing what you do. You are very brave for chasing tornadoes. Thank you for being you… you are a very chilled and relaxed guy… your videos make storm chasing fun but more like watching a documentary.
how does he stay so calm
savanna sapphire -savanna he's probably done it for years and years
Because he is a professional.
savanna sapphire -savanna ... It's because he's like Tom Hanks from The Green Mile. He knows he's doomed to live, no matter what he does.
Kinda cool, n'est pas?

*Hank comes out of his car*
Tornado: you know what let me transform into an even bigger tornado
Yes and strikes from behind sucking the car
He’s fucked now!
Now when it got bigger now it might be able to pick up cars

Diseased Walrus I live in the uk too we have boring weather but we do have some great things like Buckingham Palace
Diseased Walrus Agreed, UK is fucking boring and shit.
Diseased Walrus Dont matter where i am im always like "How da heck can a cloud get so dangerous .-."

Power flash from power lines being taken down.
TheBoxedMC Let's put that in the dictionary. "ornado" noun: plural: ornadoes: definition :swirling cloud of wind that destroys everything
More than likely an exploding transformer.
Power line.

Yeah I agree the wide angle shot is the way to go. You can see the air and how it moves far easier that way. Very interesting.
