Got very excited here for a second, until i realised that this is a budget version, not a successor. I really like the RG353P in terms of comfort (i guess my hands have taken on the shape of the SNES controller over the years xD) and it's probably the only retro gaming handheld where i don't have any complaints about any of the buttons or the D-pad. It's a shame that the screen is pretty terrible. I'd get a premium version of this with a higher resolution (maybe slightly larger? There's room at the bottom, they would only need to change the width a little) screen in a heartbeat.
Bought a 353VS a few weeks ago, at first I really didn't like it, the ArkOS image wasn't working, with JelOS I was like "I should just go for a stripdown retroarch" and the overall feeling was that the RGXXX with GarlicOS was more refined. Now I love it, played some DC games and they were running just fine. Maybe a better power management to make it perfect ? It seems to be down pretty fast when you don't use it.
While I like the feel of the Anbernic Dpad, the biggest issue I had was playing Kirby where accidental diagonals made me constantly float when I didn't want to. Other than that, it feels great and I still prefer it over the more clicky style of the RP3+.

Please use more zoom-in's in the videos. For example at 20:45 the device takes only a small portion of the video screen size (less than 20%?). Maybe not that close but I would prefer something like at 19:30. More zoom-in's would also help when you are showing files in Windows Explorer. Nowadays more people are watching YT on (smaller) mobile devices. I think it's not necessary to show the whole Windows Screen (with background and task bar etc.), better zoom-in the content you want to show. It would make it easier to see the files names.
Had high hopes on this one. Can decide which handheld to get for GB/Gba/Nes/snes. I wonder which ones pass the contra test. Since it’s one of my favorite games.
WTF?!?! Lol, haven't watched a video in about a year after breaking the addiction, had no idea you showed your face now, lmao. Cool device! As a consumer, my position is that i put almost $1k into these companies as an early adopter, and i just can't convince myself that i need a new device just for one console, or even one game. My RG351M continues to be an amazing device, so i can only see any new device as only appealing to someone who doesn't already have a ≥$200 retro handheld.
For the record, I have a PocketGo, a PG2, a GPD XD, a GPD XD+, a Powkiddy V90, an RG350, an RG351 and an RG351M, as well as a switch, a phone, and a tablet, so I kinda feel like any new device is going to need to make me dinner and do the dishes, lol.
I saw you were playing Night Trap, fun fact: Night Trap was the game that caused the ESRB to be established because at that time there was no rating system for video games. Night Trap was so controversial when it released that the result of the court case ended in the creation of the ESRB. Now you know 😅
Yes! I definitely remember that time period, my parents forbade me from getting the game because they saw it on the news. But they were fine with me getting Mortal Kombat :D
I just noticed the only console that you use in emulator logo for is the PSP. The rest of the consoles you use the official logos. Don't know why but this really messes with my OCD. 😅
Trying to find a console that will allow me to play certain retro games. Which version of Anbernic would be the best to purchase for the games listed below?: • Mortal Kombat games 1-4 • Street Fighter games 1-3 • Power Stone 1 & 2 • Dark Cloud • Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3 • Mace: The Dark Age • Super Mario Bros 1-3, and Super Mario World • Wario Land 1-4 • Bomberman 64 • Super Mario 64 • Diddy Kong Racing
Im wondering what to chose between 35xx and this 353PS,. Both systems looks good, I want it only for gba, snes and psx, I don't care about psp and dream cast. 35xx it's a liitle bit cheaper, but I'm worried about comfort (353 looks better for adult hands). Can You help me with the choice? Thanks ;)
I have an anbernic device and after messing up the firmware by downloading themes to the tiny sd card, I finally installed a new one yesterday and it's working again. But I kinda hate dealing with it. I haven't tried all the other handhelds but the one I have, they got it right with the buttons. I like the tactile feel and they're tall enough that you can press it fast and slide your finger off to one side in one motion. But Sony still makes the one true d-pad imo.
@@rs07scapeNews It's hard to find an accurate d-pad that's also suited for everything, like fighting games. I guess the snes d-pad is the most comprehensive. I cleaned a ps2 controller inside in the contacts and played biker mice snes on it and you can drive around the whole course doing a wheelie. Only psx and snes controllers can pull it off. (Yes ps2 runs snes but not perfectly). Anyway all sony controller are the same. The old thumbsticks had a huge surface area... whoever thought of that was clever.
Russ, do you think is there any chance that Anbernic will release these bodies they made for the RG353PS for the regular RG353P? I really love the Gameboy one (except for the white print of the face buttons) but the "Dot Matrix With Stereo Sound" bezel is just lovely.
So many time comes from dingo release, but still in 2023 we still have a pocket emulation till sega or ps1. All other things are playing with settings, not games.
Hey Russ, since there is no internal drive on the RG353PS version, is it true that you can't save games with the original stock card / firmware out of the box? This is something that Joey (Joey's Retro Handhelds) says in one of his setup videos, but it's not entirely clear- he says apparently that a major complaint from users is that it's impossible to save progress on games like pokemon.. Is that an issue with the original stock card? an issue with the firmware out of the box? an issue with the roms out of the box (maybe fake roms)? or an issue with the fact that this is the PS version rather than the P version? (sorry i am trying to understand, i am a newb, but interested in buying this model!). Love you all your videos and reviews btw!
in case you're' wondering, Joey says it at 1:40 in this video here: ANBERNIC RG353PS Ultimate Setup Guide ruclips.net/video/_m8mta8b7Uo/видео.html&ab_channel=Joey%27sRetroHandhelds

Now if it only would have a 4 inches screen...would have been perfect for my needs!
Man I just picked up an RG35XX but this comfort game looks top tier.
7:49 "These are not them! You've captured their STUNT DOUBLES!"
i like the look of this one your review will help me.
I should have waited for this, I still haven't booted up the android side on my 353p
@@ogami1972 If it doesn't give a good back rub on occasion, you should probably pass on it.
I also remember Dana Plato who had the lead role and was popular from the TV show "Different Strokes".
You are only half correct. It was games like night trap and mortal kombat that cause it. Cant give night trap all the credit.
was waiting for you, dude.
I just noticed the only console that you use in emulator logo for is the PSP. The rest of the consoles you use the official logos. Don't know why but this really messes with my OCD. 😅
Ha, yeah that's because the PSP logo is so thin that it doesn't look great compared to the others.
Good video! Keep it up bro! 🤙🏽
Now do this to the 405M please!

Trying to find a console that will allow me to play certain retro games. Which version of Anbernic would be the best to purchase for the games listed below?:

• Street Fighter games 1-3
• Power Stone 1 & 2
• Dark Cloud
• Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3
• Mace: The Dark Age
• Super Mario Bros 1-3, and Super Mario World
• Wario Land 1-4
• Bomberman 64
• Super Mario 64
• Diddy Kong Racing
Im wondering what to chose between 35xx and this 353PS,. Both systems looks good, I want it only for gba, snes and psx, I don't care about psp and dream cast. 35xx it's a liitle bit cheaper, but I'm worried about comfort (353 looks better for adult hands). Can You help me with the choice? Thanks ;)
I want one. It think it’s in my power/price sweet spot. But even more importantly, I want to see you stream some Genesis NHL ‘95
Data Frog SF2000 review?
I have an anbernic device and after messing up the firmware by downloading themes to the tiny sd card, I finally installed a new one yesterday and it's working again. But I kinda hate dealing with it. I haven't tried all the other handhelds but the one I have, they got it right with the buttons. I like the tactile feel and they're tall enough that you can press it fast and slide your finger off to one side in one motion. But Sony still makes the one true d-pad imo.
Sony dpad is ass. I cant stand the 4 directions being seperated

The Vita dpad is perfect for handheld.
damn i just ordered the 353v annnnd i didnt think of the hand position i should have bought this
Kepp in mind, shipped from Amernic this is _$120_ , it's not 'under $100, it's not even close.
Russ, do you think is there any chance that Anbernic will release these bodies they made for the RG353PS for the regular RG353P?
I really love the Gameboy one (except for the white print of the face buttons) but the "Dot Matrix With Stereo Sound" bezel is just lovely.
Fun fact, if you google Portmaster, RGC's guide is the second hit
I think I will go for the 35xx but I can't make up my mind, having the joysticks seems kind of nice for ps1 games
Great video. I do have a rg353p already. This could be a great gift for someone else tho. The design is great and its so nostalgic. Do think anbernic should over more colors tho. Also quick question, how do you get daijisho on the rg353p?
It's a good option for a PICO-8 handheld
Would you recommend this if you want something that will play N64 reliably? Or which one would you recommend if N64 is the highest system you want to play?
Yes please review more budget retroconsoles, not everybody can afford 6-700€ amd ryzen handhelds
My charger port came loose. Where can I find a replacement port and is there a tutorial?
Can't wait for rg35pspsps
Hi russ , i just have a question about the 280v , can I add roms on the same sd card running adam image ?
Are the sticks full 360 degrees a la 405m or 8 cardinal points ala 35xx-H?
Would you go with this or the powkiddy RGB30 right now ?
Should I pick up the 353sp or buy the RG35xxh
I wanna know this too 😊
Hey Russ! Just wanted to know which is your favorite Anbernic Device thats currently avaliable?
